Found this picture online. it is not very clear but I think it is clear enough to show that the stadium was not as "empty" as the OP claimed.

Dunno about the empty stadium seats, but I watched the rally on Channels TV and I did see quite a respectable turnout of people at the stadium.

This picture could have been taken at anytime during the event....at the beginning, at the end or even a day before the event.

Also like someone else pointed out, seeing that the rally was put on a work day, it would be normal for there to be a low turn out.

Whether you like it or not, Amaechi has his loyal crowd in River State. I have visited Rivers 3 times this year and from my random sampling of opinions, the man is not as unpopular as y'all trying to paint him.

Politics › Re: Adams Oshiomhole Xmas Present by Reptyle(m): 7:40am On Dec 24, 2013
kelechiodo: Adams Oshiomhole has given Edo state teachers xmas presents by sacking 836 teachers and not paying them their December salary. according to report, The Edo State government has sacked 836 teachers following a verification exercise carried out by the state’s Department of Information and Communication Technology.

The affected teachers were said to have learnt of their lay-off when they discovered that their names were missing from the December salary voucher.

Those sacked were said to have either over-stayed their number of years in service or falsified their age and credentials. Others were those who have become mentally unstable and the blind.

Oshi, why are you so wicked

Dude what are you on about?

Would it have been better for the governor to retain the affected people in service based on their description above?

Politics › Re: Oby Ezekwesili blasts Nigerian lawmakers for “disrespecting” Okonjo-Iweala by Reptyle(m): 12:19am On Dec 22, 2013
There surely must be something about having worked at the world bank that makes these two women believe they have attained god-like status and must be worshipped wherever they go. Respect is reciprocal and it's not just in saying it, but acting it. Mrs Ezekwesili's description of a legislator as no better than a "research assistant" just shows the mindset and the contempt she and her ilk have for people in that office.
I have watched the video of the exchange between madam minister and Mr. Committee chairman and all I can see is a woman who came to d session with an "am doing y'all a huge favour by gracing you with my presence" attitude and a man who was determined to have none of that. She claimed she was ill and she was asked to go with the questions, provide written answers and return in January. What else did the minister want to say?
In my opinion she was just as guilty as the legislator in the uproar that resulted. This isn't about politics.

Kairoseki77: What do you think?

I have noticed that 99% of people who support PDP/GEJ on NL are from the SS/SE, while there is a huge mix of people that are anti-GEJ.
PDP used to be a national party...now they are no better than any of the other regional parties.

ochukoccna: Having seen the video of this so called exchange, NOI should take a chill pill grin grin
The committee invited you, you claimed you were ill but your subordinates can take some questions on your behalf , they excused you to go get well soon, next thing you claim you are strong enough to answer their questions but they said they had ruled based on your initial claim and would forward 50 questions to you [and the press] to reply to them before coming back to the committee, then you suddenly insinuate they are disrespectful and both parties raise their voices embarassed embarassed embarassed
Respect begets respect
No matter how 'powerful' she thinks she thinks she is, they were elected while she was selected
The woman should take a cold shower jo! grin grin
I share your opinion.

The minister probably wasn't expecting to be blind-sided by the legislators after she complained about the state of her health. She probably expected them to commend her for her decision to attend the session despite her ill-health.

Getting the unceremonious rebuff and off-hand dismissal after her effort to be there in spite of her medical circumstances obviously upset her leading to her statement.

She did not show much respect for the office of the committee chairman by her statements. The chairman seeing that the matter was getting out of hand should have also given her the opportunity to make a statement rather than allowing the session degenerate to a shouting match.

There is a fully functioning composite manufacturing unit in place. There is a wind tunnel which the president & CNC commissioned on same day. No one sold anything structures. I do not agree they should be scrapped. They are the more active chamber of the federal legislature...much more active than David Mark's senate. I just think they need to tone down the radicalism a bit. A forum for the President to present the budget should not degenerate to a shouting match between political parties.

Habakus: He that comes to equity must do so with clean hands. I bet Obj was too full of himself to envisage that his infamous letter to GEJ would unearth such dirty secrets about him.His evil agenda have been bared for all to see by none other than his own very daughter.Talk about cruel twist of fate! In saner climes this man Obj should be somewhere hiding his head in deep shame for all the atrocities he committed...How about the several political assasinations that happened during his disastrous regime that no one has been brought to justice for? How about the series of constant fuel scarcity palava that were the hallmark during his tenure? How about the numerous politcal witch-hunting of perceived enemies by the EFCC and their likes during his tenure? What of the ethnic cleansing that took place at several places by the military under his watch? What of the illegal privatisations and sales of various sectors of the nation's collective wealth to himself and his cronies during his tenure? How about his bid to perpetuate himself by going for a third tenure? Not all Nigerians are dumb.we know the people causing these problems, except if we want to continue deceiving ourselves. To those who say that the letter by Iyabo to Obj was not duly signed,i ask you to show me where this her purported denial note was signed. Peace.
Perhaps you are the only one in this country that thought OBJ was a saint...I'm sure everyone else knew that the man was not perfect...now you know also; that is if you choose to believe that Iyabo actually wrote that letter to her father.

But be that as it may, it still does not negate the fact that the posers raised by OBJ in his open letter to President Jonathan are weighty enough to deserve a response.

The question now is when will the President and his lackeys do the needfulhuh

Why can we not ever have a government that owns up to its failure? They complain about vandals like it isn't part of their duties to provide security and get rid of vandals. After voting billions for security every year, all we are fed with are excuses. God save this country!
Politics › Re: Jonathan Replies Obasanjo: Prove ‘hit-squad’ Allegation Or Remain A Coward by Reptyle(m): 4:46pm On Dec 16, 2013
Puntae: What do you know about posterity? OBJ's letter is akin to a notorious armed robber who embarks on an anti robbery campaign. No sane mind will take him seriously. His motives are induced by self serving political interest and not altruistic in anyway.

I mentioned history because History Reminds us of the failings of the past and guides us to avoid the pitfalls ahead. OBJ's history is replete with sufficient misdeeds and atrocities that we cannot forget in a hurry. He has a rich history of framing up and blackmailing people out of power and that is what he Intends to achieve in this letter. If you doubt it, ask Audu Ogbeh, Atiku and his likes.

It is only logical that one should not put forward allegations which he is not sure of. But OBJ threw everything in the mix including this baseless allegation that "Jonathan is training snipers" in a failed bid to demonise GEJ. Only f.ools will buy that. Not me.
So even if your armed robber has ideas that will help you reduce the level of armed robbery in your neighborhood, you would ignore it because you are worried about whether he is altruistic or not abi? i am not under any illusion that Obasanjo is a saint! He probably should have done much more as a president than he achieved. However, that still doesn't negate the fact that he raised some burning issues affecting our present and having the capacity to negatively impact our future.

President Jonathan is performing way below expectation and his anti-corruption credentials are suspect.

It would have been quite humiliating for Wike to announce the extension of the deadline so he got the NUC president to do his dirty work. Is the FG trying to claim now that they weren't aware of professor Iyayi's funeral arrangements before announcing a deadline?

If they still refuse to meet with ASUU's demands by the 9th and ASUU decides to call their bluff, I wonder what the next excuse for extending the deadline will be:

"We wish to announce the extension of the deadline for the resumption of ASUU members to the 15th of January, 2014. This is to enable members of ASUU enjoy the yuletide celebrations with their families and fully recover from the stress that comes with celebrations during the period..." angry

I chose not to respond to your post because you have made up your mind about what to believe. Documents were presented to show that there was a series of communication between LASG and the ANSG. You must have missed that. The destitutes were to have been received by the state government who would in turn reunite them with their people.

Politics › Re: Oshiomole Vs Fashola Saga (lessons To Be Learnt.) by Reptyle(m): 10:03pm On Dec 02, 2013
Onyejiuwa okoh: Adams Oshiomole exhibited maturity and sensibility. He made a costly mistake but he corrected it immediately, knowing that it may kill his political career. Fashiola was very arrogant, he felt too big to show remorse for his action. He was busy using propagandists to justify his action insteady of amending his ways. That is why Igbos see his party as an evil party, if not his action Ngige could have won unopposed, non of the contestants in the Anambra election can challenge Ngige in term of popularity. Fashiola has already brought the hatred and his party will suffer it beyond 2015, both in Igboland in Nigeria at large. The Igbos both in SS/SE and all the good people of Nigeria will return Jonathan in 2015, there may be demonstrations in SW and NE/NW may be bombing themselves and normal activities will be going on in the SE/SS and Middle belt.
The failure of Anambra people to elect Ngige despite his popularity will not hurt the south west. It will hurt the people of Anambra State. Have you not heard it said that no sane person cuts off his nose to spite his face?

How can you rob yourselves of the opportunity to elect someone who will bring development to your state in order to spite a governor of another state? I wish y'all luck with the new governor because if he is anything like the current gentleman in the area of performance, you are all sitting on a long thing.

It wasn't only the SE and SS that made Jonathan President. It was votes from all over Nigeria. He is not a SE President, he is the President of Nigeria. In 2014, if he makes it thought he PDP primaries, he is going to require the votes of all Nigerians to be returned to office. Stop making that process hard for him with all these kind of statements that defy logical reasoning.

theoctopus: I really didnt want to comment on this thread but it irks me when I see falsehood like the one you are spitting.

1. Fashola never sent anyone to their families. He arrested people illegally, kept some of them for as much as 7 months incommunicado, and dumped them under a bridge by upper Iweka at 3pm in the early hours of the morning. How is that reuniting people with their families? Do their families live under the bridge? I dont get it!

2. The people that were deported where from different states, not Anambra state, so what has Peter Obi got to do with it? Again, that is another proof that they not returned to their families. Some where even from some south south states.

It is funny that you want to distort a well documented historical event just because you support a party or a politician. Thank God that the Internet is one big database. Please try another line
Well documented historical facts you say? You need to review your historical facts my friend. This time through the eyes of a Nigerian and not just an Igbo man.

I do not belong to any party. Sincerely you will find that not everyone that holds a contrary view to yours is a member of the opposition party.

FreeGlobe: was it Peter obi that deported the destitutes, this thread is about the actions of the major actors and how they handled their victims. Don't you get it?
We apparently have different views about what transpired during the so-called "deportation" saga.

Fashola has explained the situation and apologized to all those who misunderstood his intentions by sending the destitutes back home.

Peter Obi did not "deport" the destitutes quite alright. But now, they are in his state. He owes them the responsibility of rehabilitating them.

What is it about my post that gave you the impression that I am "making this about tribe?" Did you see me write or mention anything ethnic in my post?

Fashola is the governor of Lagos and Peter Obi is the governor of Anambra. I am neither Yoruba or Igbo or Hausa and the ethnic sabre rattling on Nairaland disgusts me to the pit of my stomach. I only disagreed with a view you held and methinks I'm within my rights to do that.

FreeGlobe: why we all agree oshiomole is performing in his state contrary Fashola whose performance is hyped by the SW media one thing is noteworthy about these APC governors. Their ability to manage defining controversies. Deportation saga for Fashola and 'Go and die saga' for oshiomole.
Why oshiomole has proved to be the bigger man and better democrat by quickly going beyond mere apologies to offering life changing succor to his victims, Fashola on the other hand has not thought it wise to go beyond his 'conceited' apology to the igbos and offer a lifeline to the deported destitutes. There are many lessons to be learnt from this similar scenarios but I will leave it to you to do yourselves.

brb
First of all, Fashola did not issue an apology for sending destitutes back to Anambra. He only apologized to people who may have misunderstood his motives...like you.

Secondly, rather than pushing for Fashola to extend a hand to destitutes who are now most likely happily reunited with their families in Anambra, I think you should urge Governor Obi to extend lifelines to them given his current spate of benevolence sharing cars to senior civil servants and traditional rulers.

Shouldn't you be happy for the woman that God has turned her reproach to blessings? Should you not be happy that the governor realized the folly of his action and apologized to the woman? Are you a sadist?
