This story was published in newspapers since last year circa August. There was no accompanying photograph to the story then for obvious reasons. (too gory for public viewing) About 6 months down the line, an obscure blogger gets hold of the picture by whatever means and publishes them with a new twist to the tale. Since we are nation besotted with the bizarre, the story spread like wildfire and has continued to spread due to poor information management by the police and our natural inclination for weird conspiracy theories. A routine search on the internet will give you several sources of this story as reported last year. For example, click on the link below: http://thenationonlineng.net/web2/articles/12546/1/22-crushed-to-death-on-Sagamu-Benin-Road/Page1.html I don't know about anybody else o! But if I was a bus driver and I was asked to drive over people by robbers, I would rather have them shoot me dead and do their dirty job themselves. I would not drive over 22 people just to secure my own life, especially when there is no guarantee that they wont end up putting a bullet in my head or worse still, tying both my hands behind me and setting me ablaze while they pop champagne and cheer loudly. Afterall they were sadistic enough to watch a bus drive over people now weren't they? Puhleeeeze!!!! Let us not allow our emotions overtake our sense of reasoning. @ El-Razur I don't know about you but if I was driving along Benin - Ore or any other Nigerian highway for that matter at night, I would not be driving slowly even if I was driving an armoured tank. I also do not know what effect the sound of an AK47 or any other automatic or semi-automatic firearm shots would have on you. But for me, I think it would jar my nerves badly, cause me to panic, affect my sight and cause me to want to get out of there as fast as possible. My brake would be the last thing on my mind at that particular time. Matter of fact, if my car or truck has turbo boosters, be sure I'll be thumbing the switch without a second thought. So don't blame the truck driver. He only naturally switched to survival mode as I am sure you would too if you were suddenly thrown into a similar situation. Abeg cut the guy some slack. |
Chei! Fully American. Bros na how much? |
I hope those Nigerians will heed the warnings and get out now while they can. Before zimbos start roasting Nigerians on the streets of harare like South Africans did to their fellow Southern Africans a few years ago. A word is enough for the wise. |
I wish Fashola can visit Nairaland and see the kind of confidence that the citizens of Lagos repose in him. I pray to God to grant him the political will to justify this outpouring of emotive support by delivering even more on his election promises. Tinubu needs to back off and realize that his influence in Lagos has been whittled down tremendously by Fashola's drive so far. If those dishonourable members of the house of assembly want to face the wrath of Lagosians, let them try anything funny and see if we will not strip them and Tinubu their father, naked on the streets of Lagos. A word is enough for the wise!!! Eko oni baje lai lai!!!! Amin o!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I knew it would only be a matter of time before one busy body will run to the courts. More cases like this will be filed over the next few days and we would have a worse logjam on our hand. As desirable as it is to have Jonathan in power to fill the vacuum created by Yaradua's absence, the procedure that put him there is flawed. There is a clearly defined procedure for investing Jonathan as Acting President but our "Law Breakers" in the Senate will continue to do the wrong thing so as to stall this country's progress and checkmate Jonathan's drive for power. May god help us ![]() |
EX LAWMAKER CHALLENGES GOODLUCK’S ELEVATION AS ACTING PRESIDENT Written by Onye Nkegi Friday, 12 February 2010 A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had been called upon to declare that the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria lacks the constitutional powers to pass the resolution which they passed last Tuesday; 9th February, which elevated Vice President Goodluck Jonathan to the Acting President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The plaintiff, Mr. Aliyu Farouk; a former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, filed the suit today following the assumption of the duties of ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua by Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as the Acting President of Nigeria. He was irked that the Senate went beyond their constitutional powers by mandating Goodluck to assume full Presidential Powers as the Acting President pending the return of the sickly President from Saudi Arabia. The visibly angry Farouk is also asking the court to declare that the requirements of section 145 of the 1999 Constitution were not strictly adhered to by the Senate in passing their resolution of last Tuesday. He further asked the court to make an order of injunction restraining Goodluck Jonathan from parading himself as the Acting President and Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The former Minority Leader is also seeking for an order of the court invalidating the resolution of last Tuesday as passed by the National Assembly. http://elendureports.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1042&Itemid=1 |
Utali: That is the story of our life. Foreign webhost, foreign coach, even foreign president gan sef!!!! ![]() |
MrCrackles:The initial info was that he was sacked outrightly. Later in the day, all the major news channels both local and foreign, including NTA carried the news that he was redeployed to Special Duties. |
77ken: No, Ojo alias ANY-GOVERNMENT-IN-POWER should be made a senior special assistant to the new Minister of Special Duties!!!! Now that would be karma ![]() |
I-Dont-Care has become a minister of miscellaneous affairs For this singular move, I could kiss Jonathan(No Homo )If Adoncar has any honour, he should resign. But he wont!!!! He would rather bear his humiliation as long as it will keep him in the corridors of power. The Minister of special duties has no office, no subordinates, no permanent secretary, nothing!!!! he reports to the Aso Rock chief of staff because he is actually a staff of Aso Rock. He could be sent to represent the President at such trivial events as naming ceremonies, fund raising, launching, etc. Anacondaaaaa wasn't even considered fit to swap ministries with his replacement as SGF. Rather, the erstwhile Special Duties Minister was elevated to Works and Housing while Idonkia was demoted to special duties ![]() |

@ Just Cool Pls click on my attachment. It is a soft copy of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution. Pls pay particular attention to Sections 143 and 144. Those are the sections that deal with appointing and removing a President from office. After you have done that, run it by what this Senate has done and tell me if it is legal or not. ![]() At the risk of sounding like a broken record, what the Senate attempted to do is to find a POLITICAL solution to a CONSTITUTIONAL impasse. By so doing however, they have DELIBERATELY refused to plug legal loopholes that will in turn prove to be the achilles heel of Goodluck's presidency. What Jonathan is doing right now is like walking through a minefield blindfolded. It is only a matter of time before he steps on one of them and KABOOM!!!!!!!!!!! Like a poster mentioned earlier, a minor slip in the oath administered on Obama led to him having to take it all over again. That was because some crazy politician or citizen could ride on that singular slip to undermine his government in future. Jonathan needs to get his loyalists in the executive council to move a motion pronouncing the President temporarily incapacitated, so that he can legitimize his government. Otherwise, the new AGF should prepare himself for the backlash of frivolous cases challenging the acting president's authority . |
vigasimple:Well said!!! blackmann:I speak for myself when I reiterate that at best, what this Senate has done with its resolution is to slip a banana peel under the VP's feet. It is like asking him to build a skyscraper on a foundation made from styrofoam. If the process that saw his emergence as acting president goes against the dictates of the constitution, as it unfortunately is presently, then any action he takes can easily be voided by a court order filed by any interested party. Otherwise, it sets a dangerous and illegal precedent. What is worth doing is worth doing well. This politicians know the law. it is written down in black and white. Why can't they simply follow the prescribed procedure. If they start the process today, Jonathan can legally assume that role by Friday. it is not such a difficult process. Yorubas will say " Eje ka se bi won shen se, koba le ri bo tin ri!!!" |
Dede1:You got ur job by passing thru at least some form of interview. The president got his by election. Bottomline is that he has been entrusted with a job to do and he has grossly and woefully failed to deliver on the mandate that was ENTRUSTED to him. He has not even been able to deliver on 1 out of his own self assigned 7-point agenda! No light, no water, no fuel, Nigeria has been labelled a terrorist sponsor and internally, the country is crises prone from religious extremists, militants and even the military. Though the constitution does not stipulate a time frame for transmitting a letter to the Senate as you rightly pointed out, I do not think one needs a degree in nuclear physics to know that the country is drifting because Mr. president, by reason of his ill-health is not just incapable of discharging his duties, but also incapable of transmitting the required letter to the Senate. That is why the executive council should have invoked section 144 of the constitution in the interest of the country. I feel for Yaradua. But the fact is that the country cannot be allowed to go to the dogs because he is incapacitated. The constitution prescribes clear ways of getting out of this logjam. |
Don't know if it is true o!!!! But I just read a newsflash on Sahara reporters that I-Don'T CARE the minister of INJUSTICE has been booted out with immediate effect!!!!! I say halleluya if it is true. Next to be booted? Ojo Maduekwe Alias ANY-GOVERNMENT-IN-POWER!!!!!!!!! ![]() http://saharareporters.com/real-news/sr-headlines/5119-aondoakaa-removed.html |
Dede1:I take it that you are not based in Nigeria going by your post. Now I don't know where you are based but I take it that going by your post, you do not agree that absconding from your duty post without following due procedure to ensure that the job you are entrusted with does not suffer, is very ok, provided you are sick Strange conclusion if you ask me. Is that how it works in the country where you are based? Is that how it obtains in your place of work, that you can just up and leave your duty post for days without informing your employers and perhaps handing over your duties to a relief person? Perhaps you are a student and you decide to play truant for a semester or a session without informing the authorities; What do you think would happen to your scholarship in that school? For your information, no one has called for Yaradua's sack because he is sick, but because HIS SICKNESS HAS RENDERED HIM INCAPABLE OF PERFORMING HIS DUTIES AS PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He has refused to speak to Nigerians who "elected" him and refused to at least temporarily hand over power to his deputy until he is physically able to withstand the rigors of the presidential office once again. If you are employed to do a job and you find along the line that due to one reason or the other, that you are unable to discharge your duties, the honourable thing to do is to resign. if you do not resign, it is only a matter of time before your employer notices your incompetence and force you out of that position!!! Falling sick does not constitute "gross misconduct" as explained by the constitution. Thus ill-health is not a ground for impeachment, until it starts to impact negatively on your work as it is currently doing to Yaradua. |
^^^^By law, he is actually empowered to do and undo as an "acting president" he exercises FULL executive powers and can decide to suspend or sack the present cabinet and appoint a new set of people. When the substantive president returns, he can decide to reverse all decisions taken by his deputy while he was acting as President. Jonathan has, however, displayed some "lily-liveredness" so I doubt if he will be willing to rock the boat that badly. |
^^^^You should take your own advice ![]() |
This is just another delay tactic and I am afraid that Jonathan is in on this charade this time. If he wasn't, he would not have accepted this lame offer by the senate. The constitution prescribes TWO clear ways by which the VP can become an acting president. The first option is for the President to forward a letter to the Senate president stating that he is handing over power to the vice-president for whatever reason. He failed to do that. The second option is one that is designed to take care of the peculiar situation we find ourselves in Nigeria where the president has absconded from his duty post and is manifestly UNABLE to send a letter to the Senate. The onus in this case lies on the FEC who by a resolution of at least two-thirds of its membership, are supposed to declare the President incapable of discharging his duties and convey such to the Senate president. The senate president and Speaker of the House are then supposed to set up a medical board of five eminently qualified medical personnel including the president's personal physician to investigate and report back to them. It is based on this feedback that the Senate can do what they have done now. As it is now, the Senate has inadvertently over reached itself and created yet another fertile ground for freak court cases that will further worsen the logjam we are in now. The Senate should have invoked its powers as enshrined in Section 143 of the 1999 constitution and commenced IMPEACHMENT proceedings against the president. In my opinion, Yaradua fits the bill for impeachment because of acts of "gross misconduct" as described by Section 143, Sub-section 11 of the 1999 constitution, by his singular act of absconding from his duty post for 78 days without informing the senate. I know this charade will end some day soon. God bless Nigeria!!! http://www.chr.up.ac.za/indigenous/documents/Nigeria/Legislation/Constitution%20of%20Nigeria.pdf |
honeric01:No be only Italian football, na spanish football!!! Truth be told, Amodu is one of the most clueless football coaches that ever existed. Watching the SE play during the qualifiers and even during this recently concluded ANC, can you honestly say you saw a team that was playing under a coach that had a well thought out strategy? Going by your post, when you remove a coach's ability to make a good team selection and his spirit of adventure and willingness to take risks, what else does he have? Oh, and do not forget Amodu's obvious lack of technical depth in the area of match reading and lack of control over his players. The only thing Amodu has going for him is luck. In the past, Nigeria used to win some and lose some. Regardless of the result however, the SE used to play good football. Now we have to watch with bated breathe while teams like Kenya, Benin and Mozambique (no disrespect to these countries intended) make mince-meat of the SE on the field !!!In the spirit of fairness, Amodu should have been allowed to take his team to the world cup and get chucked out in the first round with a basket full of goals. If for nothing else, at least he would have learnt the difference between playing some ill-prepared African teams and playing the likes of Argentina. ![]() |
asha 80:This is the same idiot who wrote on his facebook wall: "Obasanjo has chose (sic) to break his silence by calling on President Yaradua to tow the path of morality and resign. nice one, only if he listens! God save Nigeria!" What a bundle of contradiction?!! This facebook update was on January 21, 2010. I am wondering what suddenly happened to get him "marching for Yaradua." Once again I say, MAY IT NEVER BE WELL WITH YOU AND YOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
OhGrey:It is indeed the same "Emeka Okoroji" If you read further down his wall, you will see where he wrote "Future Nigeria Group is coming your way. Watch out peeps." You will also see where someone was commending him for appearing on AIT. I have already sent the idiot a friend request for one sole reason - So that i can gain access to his wall and place a direct curse on him and his generation. After which I will remove him from my friends' list. The beast!!!! |
To Emeka Okoroji and all those hungry Nigerian "youths" that staged this deception, deciding to sell their souls for a mess of porridge, I say may it be unto you as you have planned in your heart for this country. If you genuinely believe in the cause for which you staged your match to the Senate, then may it be well with you. But if you were paid to do this in other to further perpetuate the ongoing looting of the resources of this country by the privileged few, then may the money you received be your nemesis. May you use the filthy lucre you have received to treat an incurable disease. May your case be worse than that of Judas Iscariot. May you not live to see the positive change that is coming to this country soon. May it never be well with you and yours to the 10th generation. May the blood, sweat, sorrows and tears of all those who have made far reaching sacrifices to see this country progress continue to haunt you and yours all the days of your life. May help be far from you and yours forever more. ![]() |
