Politics › Re: Do We Glorify Mediocrity In Nigeria? by Reptyle(m): 1:51pm On Aug 26, 2011
Yes we glorify and enthrone mediocrity. Just take a look our President for example; what can be more mediocre than the well educated flop we have running our country? Shame on us!!!!!

Kettykin, the rumoured call logs have been disclaimed by MTN publicly,

The NJC has become a biased umpire in this tug-o-war between Katsina Alu and Salami.

Why not wait for the courts to make a ruling in the suit filed by Salami challenging the NJC?

I hope GEJ doesn't allow himself to be used in this manner.

Business › Re: Listening To Sanusi, I Am Proud To Be A Nigerian! by Reptyle(m): 11:21am On Jul 28, 2011
odedele:
CBN governors reserve their comments until the odd once in a year or so when they must speak on monetary policy. I cannot imagine Ben Bernanke or Alan Greenspan in his days at the Fed volunteering a comment on matters such as Afghanistan or the appropriateness of Sarah Palin’s dressing or in fact whether Obama should worry about all of America’s problems simultaneously or selectively. But Sanusi, recall, set out by challenging Yar’dua’s 7 point agenda. Ordinarily, his elevated office ought to define a higher level of candour and circumspection in matters of public commentary than he is currently displaying. And that is a pity.

For instance, Sanusi is reported to have said that the weak banks in the system have until September to recapitalize or be liquidated. No one in their right mind will continue to leave their deposits in these banks after that comment as September approaches. Yet these banks are supposed to raise additional capital! There was also an open expression that if foreign buyers cannot be found for these weak banks, they may be nationalized! It is difficult to reconcile between Sanusi’s avowed nationalistic fervor and his initial willingness to auction off the weak banks first to foreign interests. And for the leader of a CBN in a country that subscribes to free market rules to threaten nationalization of so many banks even as a fall back position speaks volumes
The toga of central bank governor is no license for anyone to further destabilize the economy or inject mischief into a polity that is already riven by unnecessary sectarian and regional contradictions. Intemperate utterances and that kind of verbal incontinence and recklessness that should at best be found in beer parlours should have no place in the vocabulary of a central bank governor. But if Sanusi insists on his present talkaholic style, he should resign his job and join the political fray. There he will be free to canvass his views, test his ideas and market his obsessions. More critically, his insistence that his interest-free banking proposition is Islamic banking is heating up the polity. If this matter gets out of hand, Mr. Sanusi must be ready to bear personal responsibility for any untoward outcomes.
For quite some time, the impression has grown that the presidency allowed the CBN to dictate both fiscal and monetary policies. And the principal purveyor of both has been the rather autocratic CBN governor himself. Since the President is yet to articulate his own economic agenda, the impression that has gained ground is that Sanusi is speaking and acting for Jonathan or derives his confidence from a perception of the President’s relative indecisiveness on economic matters. If Jonthan does not rein in Sanusi now, he risks being seen as culpable in the imminent meltdown of the Nigerian economy

Politics › Emir Of Kano Blasts Vice President Sambo by Reptyle(op): 10:36am On May 24, 2011
KANO— EMIR of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, yesterday, tongue-lashed the Vice President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, for coming late to his palace during a courtesy visit, describing the action as “unfair.”

*Vice President Namadi Sambo

Sambo and his entourage had informed the palace of their intention to visit Alhaji Bayero but eventually got there about three hours late.
Apparently angered by the lateness of the Vice President and his entourage, Bayero expressed disappointment over the issue saying that as a stickler to time, he abhorred it.
He equally dismissed earlier assurances by the vice president that the Federal Government would complete the power projects initiated by the government in the state, noting: “We have the experience of unredeemed promises by successive administrations over the last 20 years.”
Bayero said: “You (Sambo) alerted us of your desire to pay a courtesy call on the palace by 10.00 am, and we have been ready for you since 9.30am only for you to turn up by 1.00pm. It is highly unfair.
Respect for time

“I belong to the old school of late Nigerian Prime Minister, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and the late Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, where respect for time is total.”
The Emir further told the vice president that he would not attend the function which he had come to Kano to perform because, “officially I was not invited for your programme, and would, therefore, not grace it but want to advise on the need to keep to time.”
He also queried the outgoing Governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who was in the entourage of the vice president on why he failed to educate the august visitor on the importance the palace attached to timeliness.
Vanguard learnt that the Emir’s outburst might not be unconnected with efforts being made by the Palace to identify with masses following the post election revolt that led to the killing of about 800 people as well as the destruction of property worth billions of Naira in some states in the north.
Bayero admonished the Federal Government to upgrade the facilities at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to international standards instead of expending fund on the extension of the terminal alone.
The vice president who was visibly shaken after being allegedly humiliated by the Emir left the palace after chorusing an “apology.”
Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media, Alhaji Umar Sani, said: “Well the Emir’s outburst is painful, but I do not think this is good for the consumption of the public.”
Namadi Sambo was in Kano to commission the domestic terminal building that took nine years to complete as well as commission the upgraded power project and lay the foundation for the new international terminal building at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.

Let GEJ go and debate by himself. The other candidates do not exist for his pleasure. He had the NN24 debate moved twice and still ended up not showing up. Matter of fact, D candidates showed their hands too quickly. If I were the one, i would wait till a few minutess to the commencement of the debate and call in to cancel when hopefully, GEJ will already be on the stage. Then he can go ahead and debate Chris Okotie and Dele Momodu. Rubbish!!!

What I find strange is that at least 25,000 Nigerians attended that service yet in all forums where this topic has been discussed at length, not one of them has come out to say he was turned away at the gates of Christ Embassy for not having or paying N1000. All I have seen so far are articles, comments and judgments from people, journalists and pastors who where no where near the venue of the service on new year's day.

Isn't there at least one member of the church here to enlighten us further on this matter rather than allow us to form wild and unguarded opinions from PM News reportshuhhuh Abeg huh
Politics › Re: Pastor Adeboye Prays For President Jonathan - Picture & Video by Reptyle(m): 7:41pm On Dec 23, 2010
Answer me this y'all:

Since when did being a President rob a Nigerian of his right to practice his religion publicly or privately?

I am not a huge fan of Jonathan but please can we put our sentiments aside and stop making a mountain out of a molehill? We have more burning issues like ensuring that neither Atiku nor IBB nor even Jonathan for that matter ascend to power next year, to worry about. But if we are going to do that, we should do it at the polls.

Let us not become like the very people we castigate by whipping up undue religious or ethnic sentiments or running down people unfairly because we do not like them.

We have had several muslim Presidents in the past who observe their prayers in public every Friday by standing behind an imam, shoulder to shoulder with common Nigerians, and touching their forehead to the dust several times in supplication to God. How come that was never an issue?

Even the Saudi monarch in all his royalty observes his prayers publicly sometimes so what is the big deal?

Or do you want Jonathan to become like the proverbial Nza, the bird who, after a sumptuous meal decided to challenge his chi to a fight?

I think the doofus meant to say that he pays all of the lecturers a total sum of $1M a month, or perhaps it was the dull journalist that misunderstood him. As someone else has mentioned on this forum, not even the CEO of microsoft earns that much in a month! Dude stole a ginormous amount of money but even IBB can't afford to shell out that much to run a school. Just saying smiley smiley

Politics › Re: Lagos Terminates Lagos-badagry Expressway Contract by Reptyle(m): 12:18pm On Sep 04, 2010
Guys I think we are all reacting based on a false premise. The newspaper report WRONGLY reported the termination of the Orile-Badagry project rather than the Ipaja road project. The Badagry project is been handled by Julius Berger and is still ongoing.

The revoked contract is the Ipaja project that was been handled by Bulletine. Tribune got the story wrong and any unbiased and discerning mind should have spotted the mix up rather than jump on the bandwagon of unfair criticism of a working government.
