Foreign Affairs › Re: Saudi Arabia Abolishes Flogging As Punishment by rhames(m): 6:22pm On Apr 25, 2020 |
ogododo: Saudi Arabia has abolished flogging as a punishment, the supreme court announced, hailing the latest in a series of “human rights advances” made by the king and his powerful son.
Court-ordered floggings in Saudi Arabia — sometimes extending to hundreds of lashes — have long drawn condemnation from human rights groups.
But they say the headline legal reforms overseen by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have brought no let-up in the conservative Islamic kingdom’s crushing of dissent, including through the use of the death penalty.
The Saudi supreme court said the latest reform was intended to “bring the kingdom into line with international human rights norms against corporal punishment”.
Previously the courts could order the flogging of convicts found guilty of offences ranging from extramarital sex and breach of the peace to murder.
In the future, judges will have to choose between fines and/or jail sentences, or non-custodial alternatives like community service, the court said in a statement seen by AFP on Saturday.
The most high-profile instance of flogging in recent years was the case of Saudi blogger Raif Badawi who was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes in 2014 for “insulting” Islam.
He was awarded the European parliament’s Sakharov human rights prize the following year.
The abolition of corporal punishment in Saudi Arabia comes just days after the kingdom’s human rights record was again in the spotlight following news of the death from a stroke in custody of leading activist Abullah al-Hamid, 69.
Hamid was a founding member of the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association (ACPRA) and was sentenced to 11 years in jail in March 2013, campaigners said.
He was convicted on multiple charges, including “breaking allegiance” to the Saudi ruler, “inciting disorder” and seeking to disrupt state security, Amnesty International said.
Criticism of Saudi Arabia’s human rights record has grown since King Salman named his son Prince Mohammed crown prince and heir to the throne in June 2017.
The October 2018 murder of vocal critic Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and the increased repression of dissidents at home have overshadowed the prince’s pledge to modernise the economy and society.

https://punchng.com/saudi-arabia-abolishes-flogging-as-punishment/? When will they abolish the kafala system that enslaves other races apart from Arabs? As far as I know Islam abolished slavery under the prophet Mohammad but the Arabs revived it under the transantlantic slave trade. Can you count how many housemaids, drivers, bricklayers, traders and other petty workers who have died under mysterious circumstances because of the kafal system. |

We Kimzo: I could remember walking home late from school in the evening, as I was playing football and my younger left me at school
I was surprised to meet my Dad in the living room, cos he wasn't supposed to be home at that time, I wasn't even aware my school uniform wasn't in me and that I had just my singlet and school trouser on, he asked for my shirt, I was surprised when I couldn't find it in my bag and inside my pocket (public school stuff).
The man just went in, before he came back I was on my way to school, when I got to the field where I was supposed to forget my Uniform, I was surprised to see one dirty shirt hung on the pole, I couldn't believe that was my uniform, I just took the cloth, went to school hostel, stole a friend's shirt, I was just walking back home crying and talking to God that I will become a Pastor if I don't die that evening..
On getting home, I saw my Dad well fined Cane, my Mum knelt and begging him, the man surprisingly was calm, until he told me to wear the uniform, behold, that shirt was almost touching my knee, Mogbe.
It wasdefinitely my Dad size, immediately the curse I sent to Femi, is definitely still affecting his life, to cut the long story shot, I went outside, held on to our Antenna pole, the rest na the dark patch I still have on my butt, and back... Ever since that day I no Dey wait make dem ring bell fo closing, I don Dey near class door, at the sound of the bell, I am already at the school car park waiting for bus..
I miss my Dad though, and I so much wish he is alive today... RIP DAD
Share your own story.... Nobody should pray for my experience and I don't wish my enemy this. I got a JAMB direct admission in 1994 but due to undue favouritism towards my siblings because of my parents archaic belief that the girl child were more valuable than the male child, and being the eldest child, my parents conspired and liked that they could not finance it. Some family friends offered to sponsor my education, especially one who at that time was a Judge of the Court of Appeal Enugu Division, but they blocked it. Instead they raised money for the women education while I had to work various jobs to survive. Humiliation followed because of my inability to further my education but as fate will have it I was introduced to the world of finance and with my GCE became a ICAN chartered accountant and ACCA qualified and owning my own business. That also makes it a source of envy as I am the first born. |

VivleBriella: Good day everyone
I've been a guest for a couple of years now, created an account to seek advice
My dear nairalanders, does it always end well marrying the Breadwinner of a family? He's the last born with 4 elder siblings but they all depend on him.
Yes, I knew he was the Breadwinner from day one but I thought with time, everyone else will be able to stand on their own, but it hasn't happened yet, we've dated for 3yrs now and he doesn't support me financially. I don't complain but he feels entitled to my money and when I get tired of him always asking me to lend him some money and decide to say no, he nags and tells me I'm not being supportive enough.
This is driving me really crazy cause he reminded me of how unsupportive I've been to him and his family, he's driving me insane, you can't possibly put the responsibility of your family on my shoulders, that's crazy and insensitive, over the years, I've borrowed him nothing less than 500k which I know for sure he's never giving back.
Is it normal to be in a parasitic relationship whereby the female remains the host that's being fed on?
I'm only 24 while he's 31. Move off and run for your life and take care of your future. He and his family are leeches who want to take advantage of this opportunity to sink you financially, morally and this may affect you mentally and in the future. Please leave that relationship and run away now before you regret it. |

Guys what should we do? Men, do you have any other work at all? Women should only be your priority when you want to marry them but not as girlfriends. Focus on your life and leave yarnsh alone. When you don gather enough coins then every girl will be at your feet. let her follow the man or otherwise you will contract a heartbreak which will result in a heart attack. festacman: The things that I deduced from Bello El-Rufai outbursts on that fateful Sunday and subsequent unnecessarily prolonged grandstanding until this apology are:
- He is morally bankrupt given the ease with which he switched to reckless use of x-rated graphical sexual innuendos about someone's mother.
- He is a spolt brat who lacks sense of respect or deference to parental or moral authorities given the way he brushed aside Oby Ezekwesili's motherly admonition and the long time it took him to apologize long after his mother's regrets and apology.
- He has anger control problems given how he flared up against a stranger like a demon-possessed man.
- He has low level of intolerance given that he insulted POTUS Mr. Trump who is somebody's daddy but wouldn't stand other people's poor opinion about his daddy.
- He is a disgrace to young Nigerians given that inspite of his exposure and high intellectual capacity, his mindset is ethnically jaundiced and strongly prejudiced.
- He lacks political tact and sagacity to grow into a national politician or future statesman, given his lack of environmental awareness and emotional intelligence.
However, nobody is a saint. We all have our moments of madness. To err is human. He should be forgiven. However, he has to, SERIOUSLY, work on his attitude and mindset. you forgot to add that he is short fused, short tempered and a short devil like his father. |

ikorodureporta: How true is this assertion that prayers @3 o' clock are more effective??
The Catholics call it "Divine Mercy" prayers
People say 3AM is the Devil's time, since Christ died in sacrifice at 3PM on that Good Friday, ( Matthew 27 Vs 45: "From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land" ) , and the Devil likes to twist everything God makes, he would choose the opposite time to make his misdeeds. So, some people would wake up at that time to pray, believing that it's more necessary, while others always add that it's the period where there was a Divine interaction between man & God, an ease of passage of Man from physical into supernatural, (In Chris's death), therefore God is usually more accessible at that hour.
Have you ever experienced any of such "effectiveness" in prayers @ this hour??
I have a friend who testified to that... There are authorities that surround that even before the advent of Christ. Prophet Moses climbed Mount Sinai to talk to Our maker mostly late at night. |

Kingzizu: Good day,
I've been masturbating at an average of twice a day for the past 8 years, I really can't explain how it got to that level but I was so addicted to it that I could self-service when I'm sick or even fasting.
So recently I decided to call it quit, it's been 1 month now and it seems I'm waking up to the reality of not being in a relationship all my life, I'm 26 BTW and I've never felt so much urge and desire to be in a relationship as I'm feeling right now. I'm always of the opinion that I don't need a girl now and would definitely get one when I'm ready to settle down but it seems very hard for me to approach a girl and the thought of being in a relationship scares me, I feel the relationship might not last, I might not be committed and the girl might get bored and leave.
Through out my stay in the university and my NYSC days I had no single female friend and presently I have no female friend. When I'm in the midst of people I don't give audience at all to any female and might not even speak to them but I have lots of male friends, I know I'm not gay but I just don't feel that need to talk to a girl or keep up with them, I don't even have a single female contact on my phone.
I'm working and fairly comfortable now but I'm beginning to worry that I might not be able to fall in love or even get to approach a lady for any meaningful relationship and the worst of it all is relapsing (start masturbating again). Please I need your advice. If you believe in the Almighty Creator and believe in the power of prayers, and you work towards your goal then you will find your better half or she will find you. Pray to Him to give you your best friend and not a wife please. There are more girlfriend materials posing as a wife in this world today. Just do that and stay focused. Wishing you God's guidance in life. |

I've actually wondered if what they've done could be considered criminal act... regardless, we can slap labels and throw charges at them, but like Politicians and top officers, they are well guarded and protected. First we need to have an investigation to get into the real truth and all those involved if this was intentional, trolling or accidental. We need judges that will rightly divide the truth and then justice will come. Don't even think it. It would be ridiculous. The Evil children will never give up their leaders and they have the tribal leaders to make it stick. Everyone who signed on to this would look like fools. On the other hand, psyops to convince the children of darkness that the Politicians and business people have lost the "Mandate of Heaven" might work... If u don't understand this because I don't want to get ban, when I called the actual people behind this, they're a tribe that celebrate crime culture.

While French and Americans took out key formations from the air and with artillery, ppl like Deby then under Pres Habre drove into Libyan territory on 'technicals' and engaged the Libyans. And they beat Gaddafi boys back.
If Chad had our military budget then they might've have annexed Borno by now, just for being a source of irritation lol. They have already annexed it as they are fighting two wars. A proxy war against Nigeria on behalf of France and USA for decimating them in 1983 under Shagari and carried out by BUBU himself and Boko Haram.
