Foreign AffairsRe: US Imposes Sanctions On Iranian Steel And Other Metals by rhames(m): 10:04pm On Jan 10, 2020
Dannybammz:
(CNN)The Trump administration is imposing new sanctions on Iran following attacks on US and allied troops earlier this week, Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced Friday.

"The President is issuing an executive order authorizing the imposition of additional sanctions against any individual owning, operating, trading with, or assisting sectors of the Iranian economy including construction, manufacturing, textiles, and mining," Mnuchin told reporters at the White House.

He noted those would be both primary and secondary sanctions and that the executive order allows the US to designate other sectors in the future.

Additionally, the US is announcing 17 specific sanctions against Iran's largest steel and iron manufacturers, three Seychelles-based entities, and a vessel involved in the transfer of products.

The actions, the administration says, will "cut off billions of support to the Iranian regime."

The administration is also sanctioning eight senior Iranian officials who were involved in Tuesday's strike, Mnuchin said.

The announcement, Mnuchin said, is "part of our commitment to stop the Iranian regime's global terrorist activities," noting that the sanctions will be in effect "until Iran stops its terrorist activities and commit to never having a nuclear weapon."

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/01/10/politics/us-sanctions-iran-mnuchin/index.html
The US knows they cant block Iran from smuggling and selling its oil to support its economy while these sanction last. The sanctions are like a joke. Iran has suffered countless sanctions for decades. But its biggest advantage at the moment is that The EU, Israel and some Arab countries including Iraq are not supporting the US in this.

President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed why he decided to become to join partisan politics after release from prison.

Speaking when he received the youths leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who came from across the country to pay him a visit in Abuja, Buhari said he took interest in politics after a clean bill on his integrity by those who detained him after the 1985 military coup and who thoroughly checked his record as governor of the North East, Minister of Petroleum and Head of State and found nothing incriminating.

“After I was released and nothing was found on me I took interest in politics. This is what pushed me into partisan politics; to serve with integrity. So I decided to try leadership as a civilian, after taking off the military uniform,’’ he added.

Speaking on his second tenure, the President assured that he would be more firm, focused and relentless in delivering results, especially in securing the country, stimulating the economy to work for all, and fighting corruption.

“I am currently serving my last term in office. I swore by the constitution to defend the country, and I will do the needful for the country,’’ President Buhari said.

In his remarks, National Youth Leader of the APC, Comrade Sadiq Shuaibu Abubakar, congratulated the President for winning the Presidential elections in 2019, assuring him that the youths will continue to support his policies and vision of greatness for the country.

Abubakar urged the President to get more youths involved in governance so as to learn from his “treasured wisdom.’’

PoliticsRe: Umahi Pays N30k New Minimum Wage On January 10 by rhames(m): 9:27pm On Jan 10, 2020
Earlystar698:
BREAKING!!! Jubilation As Gov. Umahi Pays New Minimum Wage To Ebonyi Civil Servants on 10th January

It was all joy for Ebonyi Civil Servants in the capital city of Ebonyi, Abakaliki today as queue was observed in all the the Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) within Abakaliki as jubilating workers were observed to be carrying out transaction after early morning alerts of their January salaries which the Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi FNSE FNATE ordered their payment to effect the new minimum wage of N30,000.

With this, it's crystal clear that Ebonyi has taken the lead in the states that aligned with the Federal Government and Nigeria Labour Congress agreement for the new minimum wage of 30,000 Naira.

Recall that Governor Umahi on his last 2019 EXCO meeting promised that workers in Ebonyi State will start receiving the new minimum wage, effective January 1st, 2020, a promise which he further confirmed when he directed the State Accountant General and LGAs Chairmen to seek for overdraft and ensure the payment of Ebonyi workforce, the January salaries which must reflect the new minimum wage on January 10th to enable them start the new year with ease.

Just this morning, the promise and directive came alive as several civil servants were cruising to their banks and ATMs for their transactions.

Truly, a visit to any ATM machine in Abakaliki today will without doubt send the message of joy and appreciation in the hearts of Ebonyians to Governor Umahi for always putting smiles on their faces at the right time.

Ebonyians are celebrating Governor Umahi.

Jubbilating for N30,000 minimum wage? Take home pay which cant take you home? I hear some people saying half bread is better than none? Which has kept even literate people in poverty? We should not thank anyone for doing the job we voted them to do. As far as I am concerned, N60,000 should be the minimum wage.

PropertiesRe: Can I Be Forced To Sell My Inheritance? by rhames(m): 10:16am On Jan 08, 2020
Starboytwo:
Good day all,

It's pretty simple, can I be forced to sell my inheritance?

My late pop passed away 4 years ago, he had 11 surviving children from 4 wives, me and my younger brother were the last kids from the last wife...

He left a house in Lagos which we presently reside in but in recent times it's been the topic of sale by other siblings.... our stance remain 'NO SELLING'

Additional info

1-Me and my bro are in our early and mid 20's,we live in one of the apartments

2-The remaining siblings all have families of their own outside Lagos

3- Money is obviously the Motive for selling, but its emotional and psychological for us, dunno if this count, but id also add that my younger brother is a 'son of the soil"here, schooled here and erythane before pop passed, 3 of the siblings have never been here before. Older folks call popman "Baba Shade" we only met at the burial...

We had a Family meeting/reunion mid last year and the house was thrown in a debate, while majority of my siblings choose to sell the house, me, my brother and our eldest brother(2nd born) were against selling...

However, my elder bros and i spoke on new year day and i got to know his stance had changed concerning no selling, he cited heavy pressure from other siblings and he is very tired. And maybe he needs money too...

Which prompted my creation of the thread and asking "can our house be sold without our consent" considering we are in the minority for team "no selling"

Can we be forced to sell? despite having no intentions to do so, and how does the legal system cover for us...

N/B- there is no discord or fight or anything among siblings, we all live in peace and contact mostly through phone calls sometimes.....
I am not a lawyer but with my experience fighting for my own share of my late father's inheritance and winning, this is a tip I can give you so that your late Pop can rest in Peace.

The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is very clear on how inheritance should be treated.

If anyone died intestate, the laws of his religion will be used to share his properties. If the late person is a Christian, then it's civil law, which may require sharing the property equally amongst the heirs or disposing the property and sharing the proceeds.

But in the case of a Muslim, it's a different ball game. It's Sharia law, the set of laws derived from the Holy Quran. Whichever way it is shared the males get the higher share.

In Sharia law, the wife of the deceased gets one-eight, whichever way it is shared. Where there is only a female child, she gets one-third while the male child gets two thirds, where there are more female children, they get half while the male Children gets half. Where there is debt on the deceased, it is announced on the third or eight day prayers so that the family can offset it. If they cannot, an equivalent of the amount of debt will be removed from the Estate and auctioned or sold to offset the debts. In some cases, the family can agree on the time to pay those debts to the debtors.

Understand one thing, the laws of FRN are not against Wills. In fact Wills are a faster way if sharing any Estate.

It's a tough task that only MEN can succeeded.

Good luck.

My advice to you is that try and employ a Chartered Accountant who will handle the school finance also an internal Auditor..(am also available to work together with u little pay)
Those in ur account department are absolutely doing nothing they are the once to be held responsible.

No you have to be strategic and not be impatient. As someone suggested, he should wait till the end of the session. Carrying out disruptive activities in the middle of the session would affect the school.
He should cope as much as he could till the end of the session around July next year. He can then sack everyone and asked interstate staff to reapply. He will have 2 months to put things in order.
I recommended that idea to him.

Jokerman:
Hello. I need advice on this topic

About a year ago, my Dad died, being an owner of a primary school with my mom, thereafter o assumed head of the school, although I run my own freelance engineering installation and maintenance service on HVACs and Diesel engines.

In course of this education line, I'm obtaining my certificate in PGDE( in view).

Now this is the case...

There are some old staff in the school then whom use to collect school fees on behalf of the school and you know Nigerians, instead of remitting the fees to the school, they divert and scam and even go as far as lending money to different people in the vicinity.

However since I took over, I forcefully stopped the collection, and redirected all fees to be paid at the bank. Mhen, it was not small trouble, fight, gossiping, spoiling me at the back etc, but I never listened to such, and right now no one collects these fees again... Everything goes through me coz I'm trying to sanitize it. I also required the services of a registered security company operator (sheriff deputies) for the school

Problems I needed advice

1. Sometimes these rebellion. They gossip and talk evil to people that I'm very harsh etc

2. I have changed 2 security operators because of compromises with these staff. I will give instruction, Buh those they'd do otherwise and bend to what other older staff tell them. Recently, the present security did something contrary and I scolded him toughly. Recently, he had an alteration with a parent and I asked him to just plead with her. He refused blatantly. I was surprised and even my mom too. He said he doesn't like the way I scold him and that's why bla bla bla, infront of all other staff. My mom asked me not to change him Buh I'm skeptical

I already feel like changing him with his company supervisor coz he lives around the vicinity and he now gossips with those old staff who might be telling him I'm too young to order him to do things

4. These old staffs are like friends to my mom and they already carry a lot of influence with most of the parents (which I also cut off too). One of them is wife to my mom's brother

5. My mother has been telling me to be patient even my wife. I do not want to employ an headteacher until I change a lot of things

The school has about 300-350 pupils, and employs 18 staff

Advice needed
Boss. Understand that the school you are running is a business not a charity and demand full control in writing from your mum before carrying out changes.

Do not care if the staff are your family members or your parents friends or whatever. If you must carry our changes, do it with full authority and not half measures. My advice to you is sack everyone you inherited and employ your own loyalists. Otherwise, you will face problems especially litigation from some of them and they will ruin your reputation.

You have to be Machiavellian when you are in business. Take action on anything immediately.

I have gone through the same issue you just mentioned; in this case, it's an inheritance leftover by my dad. As the eldest, the natural position of authority fell on my person and that did not go down well with my siblings and some tenants. One told me I cannot sack him from his shop and I exerted my God given authority by court eviction orders after a litigation that spanned six months, I ended up evicting two of them only to find out that the entire tenants numbering ten be have ganged up against my authority. Ever since I have waited for everyone to finish up his rent before evicting them.

There was a hotel where the staff wielded much power than the owner somewhere here. They took advantage of his old age to carry out nefarious activities.

When his son took over, he announced changes that those who had stayed with his organization for ten years should be retired, which angered the staff. It led to death threats to the young man. But unfortunately for the staff, the young man had made similar changes while working with a hotel abroad and knew the repercussions. He reported the death threats to the security agencies and stormed the building at 4.30 am the following morning with the agents when the night shift was about closing. He had made arrangements that guests should be transferred to a nearby hotel to enable him carry out those changes. At 7.am, he did a roll call and as each one's name was mentioned, a cheque of his entitlements was given and the staff escorted outside the premises.

These are example of right and authority. Time waits for no one and act rightly. if I were you I would use the next summer holidays to execute any plans for changes. If you fail to make these changes, you will regret it.

C'est la meme chose.
