PoliticsRe: Imo State Government Insists Nobody Died During Market Relocation by RoyalUc(m): 4:44pm On Aug 31, 2017
"We want to inform you that we have made adequate preparations for all the traders in Owerri City because the LAW in Imo State states that no market should be within five kilometers of the Government House and Ekeukwu is one of them and others that are yet to go but will go...I have equally told them that they can relocate to those shops and pay nothing for the period of three months until they are able to put themselves together."

Can somebody please confirm this?
If this is true, then I don't think the government did anything wrong.

Nigerians will always complain of the poor state of our cities - road networks, congesion, blockage of drainage systems, defacement of infrastructures, etc but will resist government's efforts at tackling those challenges.

A keke driver told me the other day; "keke good o. When govt ban okada we no gree but today, we dey enjoy keke." He added; "anything wey govt bring good."
I may not completely agree with his last statement though.

Where I reside, the govt had provided a market in a more spacious and comfortable area, chased and destroyed the goods of traders severally, yet they won't leave a dangarous, narrow road just by a federal institution.

May God comfort the bereaved.

You are missing the entire point... no matter the amount of quota you bring, the North will ALWAYS sabotage your effort because they are averse to development, modern times and age.

For instance, when the issue of restructuring was brought to fore, they rejected it

When PIB was passed, they delayed and eventually watered down the effectiveness of the bill by modifications to suit their selfish interests before passing the bill. This is coming after over 10 years of the bill gatherings dust at the national assembly...

So I ask you: "is that the kind of people that you to give your quota to"? There is a proverb that says any meat that is too difficult to chew and swallow is thrown away.
So "the North" is to blame for all the problems in Nigeria? They are the ones pulling us backwards? Ok o.

Is it just the North that are debating against restructuring? What does restructuring even mean to you and how will that solve the numerous developmental, political, economic, etc problems we are facing today? I, as a person don't support it (I don't even know what people mean when they talk about restructuring).

As for the PIB. Do you have an idea of those who agitated for resource control (that gave rise to the PIB) in modern times? People like Obong Victor Attah of AKS, Danald Duke of CRS, James Ibori of DTS, Peter Odili of RVS and several others. These were opposed by the government at the centre but today, they may not have total control of their resources but their states enjoy higher allocations.

We are not where we ought to be but with time things will keep changing as we keep pointing out things we need to change without endangering the majority of our citizens.

Have people not be contributing their own quota since 1960? What has come out of it? Fork off!
So, since nothing is coming out of it, the best thing to do it to destroy Nigeria- your country?
Nobody is against 'fighting.' But what are you fighting for? And how are you going about your fight?
I don't live in denial. I had often said we are where we are because we have a near non-existent governmemt. If I must fight, I must fight by confronting our problems to make the Nation better and not to destroy her.

Firstly, I'm not your brother.
On the other hand, may I ask who is Bianka to determine where Nnamdi Kanu should start his agitation? Notwithstanding the fact that she has every right to her views and opinion she should desist from making inflammatory statements on Biafra agitation. I don't blame you and your cohorts because you don't have an idea of what it takes to be free from this hell called Nigeria.
I think it won't be too much for you to say 'I am sorry' and withdraw your statement when other Igbo brothers had tried to correct you, even speaking in Igbo to avoid subjecting everybody to public ridicle.
It was wrong to even tell a brother; "I'm not your brother."
Please do the needful and project yourselve, your group, and the entire Igbos in the true light.

The same contribution I and my folks will term IGBO AGENDA?
Well, first. I don't react to or deal with people based on their tribes. So I won't tag his noble effort an IGBO AGENDA. (You can see my only post on NL).

Second. Nobody tagged the contributions of late Fela, Gani, etc as Yoruba agenda and I don't think any body is terming Charly boy's contributions (though without much support) an Igbo agenda.
The connotation of either the agitator or agitation is very important here.

As for him fighting for Biafra, I wish him goodluck provided he doesn't jeopardize the peace and progress of other citizens in other regions (the southeast inclusive).

And I think you could be wrong too. While I acknowledge that we do too much idolatry in Nigeria (chasing undividuals around) at the expense of responsibility, that last line caught my eye and I think you fall into the same pit yourself. When people refer to 'the north' as I sometimes do, I donot refer to the peoples of the region (because there are great differences and divisions even amongst them), but I and perhaps the fellow you responded to refer to the philosophy that drives the actions of the peoples of that region. There is a big difference.

Of course when religious and ethnic upheavals arrive, they reside primarily at the doorsteps of the peoples of that region. When riots happen, more northerners of divergent ethnicity and religions get killed than southerners just as Boko has killed more northerners than southerners but the issues and challenges facing Nigeria today are not people-centric but ideological. And just like Boko, you can send armies upon armies to kill the body, but the thinking which drives the action is much more resilient. That cannot be defeated easily.

The problems facing Nigeria are not about tastes and tribes but thoughts and temperament. It resides in the minds and so people sometimes call it a 'northern way of thought' versus a southern way of thought which is more liberal, independent and forward.
"The problems facing Nigeria are not about tastes and tribes but thoughts and temperament. It resides in the minds and so people sometimes call it a 'northern way of thought' versus a southern way of thought..."

I think he had this in mind when he said;

"There are people in the NW, NE and NC that want such reforms as there are some in the South that are against it. The best is to reachout to like minds across board without shutting anyone out on the basis of geopolitical zones."

If "the problems facing Nigeria are not about tastes and tribes but thoughts and temperament (which) resides in the minds" then it won't be out of places to "reachout to like minds across board without shutting anyone out on the basis of geopolitical zones."

Two can't work together except they be in agreement.
To have like minds suggests we know what our problem are and are ready to put aside our differences to solve them.

While I agree with you that those are very necessary, I think you went about it the "not so" proper way.

There are people in the NW, NE and NC that want such reforms as there are some in the South that are against it. The best is to reachout to like minds across board without shutting anyone out on the basis of geopolitical zones. The southern unity would be best of economic cooperation, integration and advancement, and not to "oppose" anybody.

The North is not your problem, your (our) problem is within
Once again I have seen it is not ideal to oppose people in a hurry.

[quote author=Sapiosexuality post=59927020]I understand you better now. But I still disagree. Our love for our tribe doesn't lead to nepotism. What leads to nepotism is our ignorance.

Love for family is too complete to lead to anything negative. This love is the only thing that wouldn't lead to anything hurtful or bad. We confuse these things.

Will we be nepotistic if we know it is a matter of life and death? Will we prefer a quack doctor who is our brother to handle our health when there is a good doctor from another place?

It all boils down to ignorance and stupidity. If we are well informed on the consequences of actions and believe in goodness, we wouldn't be that stupid.

What does it even mean to be a detribalized Nigerian? What does that really mean? What is the Nigerian identity for which a person should ditch his to embrace? [/quot

You are just too good!

"Love for family is too complete to lead to anything negative."
Now, you hold on to this while I hold on to it. And then we have limited resource for our survival.
I'll want my family to survive first at all cost and you will definitely want same for your family. What will be the outcome?

It is also possible for me to love your family as well as I love my family, i.e., realizing that, just as I want my family to survive, you also want your family to survive. In this case my action will be different. I'll show more understanding, tolerance and forbearance.

The natural man finds it hard to do this. I think that is where your idea of "it all boils down to ignorance and stupidity" lies.

You're badly mistaken. I and earlier generations of my family are devout Fulani Christians and have always lived peacefully with our Muslim brethren in the core North.

Ever heard of ECWA Hausa? Kungiyar Masihiawa (Association of Christian Fulani Youths)?

Apart from the Jos crisis around a decade ago (which was actually territorial not necessarily religious), which other attack do you know that has been targeted towards Northern christians?

There is a significant population of indigenous Hausa Fulani Christians in the core north that have lived peacefully with our Muslim neighbors for decades, it's sad but unsurprising that most Nigerians are oblivious of this fact.
Thanks for comment. I felt deeply moved.
Clearly, it is simply stereotype that most of us suffer from. I am happy knowing what you just said.

That's the same with Tribalism. When given 100,000 to share equally you share equally. Any attempt at cheating is not tribalism but wickedness. What this thread confuses with Tribalism is stupidity and wickedness. Do Patriots by virtue of being patriots hate citizens of other countries? And when they do, is that part of Patriotism or simple stupidity and hatred? Do we then advise people to shun patriotism?
I guess we are saying thesame thing just a minor disagreement.
As a matter of fact, tribalism is the state of living together in tribes.
What I've been trying to get at is that, Nigeria has many tribes and in many instances (in our context), the love for our tribes had lead to nepotism. Or should I say, our leaders had been accused of nepotism. I guess you know what that does to our national unity because that breeds distrust.

When a person loves his tribe more than other tribes, the result is what we have in Nigeria today.

If it is not wrong, why the cry of marginization among various groups in Nigeria?

1. Some years back. WAEC sent me to Orimedu in Epe LGA for my GCE. I had never been there, so naturally was worried, guess what. I was well taken care throughout my stay there.
First. A young man who was related to someone who managed the guest house by the beach accomodated me for some days for free in the guest house. After some days, another family, just behind the guest house took me in. Yet another famoly showered so much love on me, though I didn't stay with them, but they were so kind to me. Till today, I long to go back there because I miss them so much.

2. I started my education pursuit through Pre-ND in FEDPOKO, Ufuma campus. I was admitted but could not raise my school fees on time and so was rejected in the dept. I went to my HoD, an Igbo lady, who took it upon herself to clear me in the dept though it was not her place to do so. While there, several 'uncles' took care of me, including the late Deputy Rector, fmr ASUP President, fmr president-Gen., Isuochi (I can't remember the asso.'s name) on so many others not forgeting my wonderful friends and classmates.
