Guys, i think going for canal plus service i s no cheaper than dstv, i have made the enquiry once  and i discovered that it is better to have dstv than canal horizon,firstly u will have to make a 6 months up front payment and just like what multi choice does, u need to make additional payment for u to have access to their ss3, in th end u would be paying closee to 60000or above every 6 months
What I heard is that there is a great deal with Canal Horizon as they are doing a promotion now. And that they want to offload their systems which has been affected due to increasing interest in FTA within the sub-region. There are other reasons too which I'm afraid cannot be divulged here.

Gr8! I just spoke with the guy and he will be texting me the contact. I will post it as soon as I get it or how do you prefer you get it?
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by salamander(m): 12:32pm On Nov 29, 2008
@enitan
There is a promotion going on I was told on the Canal Plus and the prices starts from 60,000CFA which include 1m dish and a decoder. There and then you have to choose your bouquet. If you could check in their offices in Benin, that would be helpful, other than that, let me know what I can do to help in my part.

@raw-kut
I hope you can make it sometime. The dish size is 5m fibre dish. The price in town is about $1,200. But if you are really interested the guy can work with any kind of specification. You can give him your design and he will build a customised dish for you; be it square, triangular, trapezium or otherwise.

Living by the border town may be a blessing for you. We met a guy here in GH who builds giants fibre dishes in Benin. He is an extremely nice guy and I think it would be good if you met him. Let me know if you will be interest. We are meeting him on Sunday for our Nilesat hunting.

Ok Guys, Here I am, Proud hunter of the Big4 KU band birds we track here in West Africa.
I said to myself a few posts back, let's move on to the big league, lets hunt down the C band birds, short of Nilesat here in Ghana, lets at least hunt down Atlantic Bird or even CNN on NSS7 C Band.
So I run along and pick up a 2.4 Mesh dish @ 24,000 Naira (GHC 240)
I decide to take a combined LNB (smart eh?)@ 3,000 Naira (GHC 30)
I Plant a Galvanised Pipe with my Welders@ 2,000 Naira (GHC 20)
Put in My cablework and I am the proud spender of 30, 000 Naira (300 GHC)

To my utter shock and dismay I tried all the tricks in the book for tracking KU band birds without success.
May I repeat that this is my first attempt at C Band installation?
So Even the easy PAS 7/10 or NSS7 all refused to show.
I removed the dielectric from the LNB, still no show
The LNB appears to be fine as the satellite finder (small noisy fellow) signals when i power on the receiver.
I am located in Accra Ghana

Here's my connection diagram

Galvanised Pipe on Concrete
C Band dish
LNB (With or Without Di-Electric NO SHOW)
Satellite Finder
Strong Receiver
TV Set
Am I doing something Wrong?

Ah! 30,000 Naira must not go to waste i need help.
You get in touch with captainus, sathob or myself, we all live in Accra (Captainus in Nsawam). We will love to help

We probed to that possibilities. I think the site satbeams.com that sathob provided is a very good source for knowing one's footprints.

@all i finally nailed the bird 'nilesat'. Am so proud of u guys, especially baduru, pito, butoneday, gangstar, infact all of you. I got my MBC2, MBC max, MBC persia, infact i got most of the V signal, signal strength which is about 55%, it doesnt go off except the weather is bad, ( i don't know if ther is a particular time it'll drop signal bt for like 18 hrs now the channels are all up). Although i spent like 4 hrs again doing adjustment.
Note: no single V position signal poped up, i beg i don tire, but i'am really satisfied with nilesat, i have all i need to quench my desire for Paid TV wahala. If only i can lay my hands on showtime card, i will run awy totally from HITV and DSTV. But it's ok, i really appreciate you guys.
@toxnaija , relax pal, i will do that.

I love you all

'Nilesat am proud to be in your family'
Congrats! I love the CAN DO attitude. Just like Obama, YES WE CAN!

@All
How una dey? I can see things are progressing nicely. I just want to to say that you can actually receive any signal on any satellite as long as you have the right size of dish, good lnb, receiver, accessories and a bit of reverse engineering in some cases. However, the catch is that the targeted bird must not be behind or beyond your horizon. Nigeria's horizon starts around Intelsat 7/10 (68°E) and ends around Intelsat 805 (55.5°W). When a bird is outside of your horizon it means your downlink equipment cannot "see" the bird so cannot communicate with it, no matter what. Bottom line is, you can track any bird all, you have to do is multiply EIRP (Beam Power) by the degrees of distance between your location and the weakest foot print of the bird to determine the size of dish that can possibly nail the bird. If you can get a 100meter dish it would pick anything you want (and you can make a nice Olympic swimming pool out of it too!!!!!).

Don't give up on any bird, just find a big dish. grin
Nice work there.But for those of us whose heads are a bit little dead with maths, why don't you put it in a formula like y = x2?

TravelRe: Ugly Britain by salamander(m): 7:16am On Oct 26, 2008
I think the better option is how to sell a positive image of Nigeria to the outside world, rather than taking the reverse mode of 'Ugly Britain'

As I mentioned in the other thread, the current Nigeria Ambassador to Ghana is going just that. He had device means by which Nigeria will have a positive image. He has been organising business fora, interacting with the Ghanaian media, and I believed his method is working. I wish Nigeria government policy should be centered on that. Doing a negative story on Britain is not the best in my opinion.
SportsRe: Football: Between Nigerians And Ghanaians by salamander(m): 6:54am On Oct 26, 2008
I find it very amusing as to how some have taken this topic, lashing at Ghana in particular. I'm a proud Ghanaian. At the same time very proud of Nigeria. My grandfather was a Nigerian. What people tend to forget is that about half of West of African population have some Nigerian blood in them. Nigeria was and is a great country. But it take the citizens to make it great. Nigeria being branded a 419 country is nobody's doing but themselves. How can a country with over 150million people be corrupted by only about 0.1 percent of the population?

For the records, it is Ghana that first 'sacked' Nigerians from their country in the infamous Aliens Compliance Order in 1970. So as to the saying that the 'Ghana Must Go' incident is still painful to Ghanaians is neither here nor there. Ghanaians have a way of forgetting a painful past and forging ahead for a hopeful future. There are still people in Naija that are very bitter about the Biafra war.

Come to Ghana now and see how many Nigeria business are flourishing. Nigerians with genuine intentions are doing businesses without any intimidation. It is worth mentioning here that the current Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana is doing a marvelous job in selling a positive Nigeria to Ghanaians.

Since I joined Niaraland I've enjoyed it here. My main interest is in the satellites section. I'm also a regular Ghanaweb reader and so with other interesting sites on the web. I want to urge my fellow brothers in Nigeria to put together their acts and make Nigeria a greatest Nation in Africa.

Has not been for corruption, with the resources Nigeria has both in natural and human resources, she will not be where she is today. Just count the number of checkpoints one has to cross from Ilakoji to Central Lagos. Ask any traveller who comes to Accra if it is the same thing from Aflao to Central Accra. Ask any Nigerian living in Ghana when was the last time his power went off? We are not perfect, but we are doing our best to keep the country sane. As I keep mentioning, it YOU and I, the citizens that makes or breaks a country.

Now back to football!
Ghana is small but it has been able to hand Nigeria some of the painful defeats in the history of soccer. It is always a nerve breaking scene when Ghana and Nigeria clash from under 1 to over 99. The important thins is that there is always a good entertainment. And for the records, Ghana has had great players from Nigeria origin who have played even to the National level. Those worth mentioning here are Shittu Muda (late 70's) and Ola Bodey (late 80's), who both played for Accra Great Olympics and were called the National side. And there are still others now who are playing in Ghana (I wont mention their names so you can snatch them, lol)

In conclusion.
Nigeria is a great country. It is up to YOU to make it that great by exhibiting a positive image. So anytime Nigeria is mentioned you say, YES!!

@ Salamander,Sathob,

I learnt Hispasat/Hotbird are a possibilty in Ghana with a 3m-3.5m fibre dish.But as Sathob said the price coated by the Lebanese man is very scary.If  we can get the above dish at a reasonable price grin and having looked at the content of the two birds (especially hotbird) I think they will also be very good alternatives(to nilesat).What do u think?
Wow, it will be great if we can get Hotbird which I consider the Mother of All Satellites! Let's keep talking to each other.

for guys in ghana, if tracking nilesat will require such Big dishes, then you might as well go for any of the others birds over europe: ASTRA, HOTBIRD, EUROBIRD, HISPASAT. they are way better.
