Nothing like that in Naija, although everyone knows the group of people who usually have weird hesdahapes in Nigeria.

They are also the group in Nigeria with any known connection to Congo!

Yoruba land? I won't give a total no for that. But majority of us aren't Yoruba in any way. Yorubas do give a lot of bleeps. That's why they easily categorise all of us (including the Binis) as Yorubas. Although this is a political gimmick to claim population. I remember that since the days of regional government, we distinguished ourselves as mid-western. We've been distinct ever since. You lots just don't see it
Which pipulation?

Wow... Thank You! I like the name..lol... I wish I knew the life he/she lived before captivity and slavery in America... I am thankful for my ancestor surviving.. I am also happy to know I'm part of t he Yoruba...
The Ekiti subgroup of the Yoruba number over 4 milllion.
Their special delicacy is Pounded yam and a series of delicious soups and stews such as Ishapa ( a delicous soup made from a special type of roselle plant native to West Africa), Egusi, Efo riro (Vegetable soups) etc

You would have to ask your DNA match more questions about his/her specific hometown or village since Ekiti has got too many of those.

Once again, welcome.

Welcome to the Fold of the largest ethnic group in Black Africa.

I hereby name you Akinluyi Adeola

Akinluyi is a Yoruba name that is very specific to the Ekiti area where your ancestors come from.
It means “The brave (You) is deserving of Honor”
Adeola is a general Yoruba name.

Yoruba eye service too much lol- the desire to look nice and accommodating before others is their ultimate archilles heel as an ethnic group.

Nltaliban:

Haha typical Igbos, it is only when they are in a favorable position that they will remember how Nigeria is sweet and how “Tribalism is bad”

Every other day, 98% of them are really half biafrans at heart with no real patriotic allegience to the Nigerian state nor what it stands for.
This was the same scenario that was playing out under the Jonathan presidency that favored Igbos when all of them kept MUTE but have all suddenly become overnight Biafrans under a northern presidency.

These are also the same people currently championing the course of a group called “ NON YORUBA Indigenes of the South-WEST” an organization whose ultimate goal is to challenge the indiginous rights of Yoruba people in their own ancestral region. Yet they come here to preach peace after holding all their “abele” anti yoruba meetings.
Hypocrites!

Laughing in higher powers .. I pity the generality of Yoruba people.

CultureAshe, Ise, Ache- Multiple words with A common Origin? by scholes0(op):
I have always wondered if there was a common origin to this particular word used when saying traditional prayers , pouring of liberation of the performance of native rites among many tribes of the Niger Area

Yorubas say Ashę
Igalas say Achę
Igbos say Isee
Itsekiris say Atsę (Ashę)
Binis say Isę

If your tribe also uses something similar, pls indicate here.
I know that in Yoruba, the verb “Sę or Shę” depending on how you wish to spell it means “come to pass”.
Is there any such breakdown in the other languages where this word is used?

Any links somewhere?

CultureRe: Are Eastern Nigerians From Central Africa? by scholes0(m):
I believe they are intrinsically west african.

What kind of silly question is this sef, lol
The Cameroon Highlands is the physical and ethnological boundary between west and Central Africa. grin

Infact within Cameroon, the Cameroonian groups west of this mountain range consider themselves West african than central African.
Then there is Northern caneroon of three entire provinces that have everything to do with West Africa and nothing to do with some distant bantus in Congo forest cheesy

And Finally, aren’t the bantus THEMSELVES hypothesized to have come from somewhere around the cross river forests / Mambilla highlands region of WEST AFRICA?

All bantus are sinply a subset of the diversity of West Africa - they are just children, grand children and great grandchildren of a subset of some West africans who spread out to conquer the rest of the continent. The parents of their bantu languages can be found here in Nigeria. cheesy

This Racist OP should find a way to move back to Zimbabwe, Uncle Bob is no longer in power.

I am an Ikale lady from Idepe- Okitipupa..... we are all Yorubas including the Ilaje people. Ikale and Ilaje are just dialects under Yoruba. We follow the general culture of Yoruba even the Yoruba language but the Ikales have some little Igbo and Benin traces. So many people even do tell us we ain't Yoruba cause we don't even look like them (I've met some people like that, some even claimed we originated from Igbo cause we look so much like them.... I mean the Ikales) but anyone from our place claiming not to be Yoruba is just confused. We are 100% Yoruba
Isn‘t that what makes Yoruba a wide and diverse ethnic group?
How can anyone expect an ethnic group of 40 million to all look like the same thing?

Funniest thing I have read in a while.

Btw- there is no “Igbo trace” in Ikale

There is some type of Benin-Yoruba love-hate going on , I am still trying to wrap my head around it.
Reason being that my experience with Benins in real life seem to be completely contradictory to what I see online/ even though I also know that people online are also real life entities.
In real life many benins have Yoruba middle names (I tell them it’s nice and they just smile), acculturate smoothly in the SW and have no problem with their Yoruba neighbors.

Is it that they pretend in real life and become other things online, or the group of ones online are just a tiny cancerous (virulent strain) of Benin people bent on spreading their bile everywhere?
On this NL a group of Benin people has taken it as a profession to be on any such threads to spew their garbage of hate all over the forum floor.
They are few but they are very persistent- signs of a group on a mission. grin

Haha the funniest one is that they can describe everybody’s origin and how even Genghis Kahan came from benin kingdom - but remain absolutely mute about their own origin.
So they don’t know where their own people came from ni?

I won’t be surprised if they send a delegation to this particular area of Edo state by next week, forcing the Kings there to start wearing skirts and circular beads to look loke their Benin Oba.
Yes, it is that serious- and they can do it.
