Also, the craze for Agbada goes waay beyond the regime change from Jonathan to Buhari.
Maybe the Niger Delta Senator wear and bowler hats got a boost during the time of Jonathan, but honestly, Agbada season is all season.
I remember everyone getting a piece of the Yoruba style short sleeved agbada (that one that looks like a shirt with the designs on it) as far back as 2014/2015

Prrection to the above write-ip

Danshiki is not the “original name” for Agbada as written up there. Danshiki is the name for another attire, something completely different. And it is much more like a shirt, trim and small.

Babban riga however can be equated with Agbada.

Moral of the story- In your mind, that good thing which belongs to your neighbor should be shared by everybody in your neighbourhood - while you aim to jealously guard and keep your own from others, even though it is so ugly and mediocre , and no one actually wants it even if you were giving it out for free grin
CultureRe: The Top Ten Sexiest Languages In The World by scholes0(m): 7:12am On Dec 15, 2017
I quite Agree with the Yoruba part.

I discovered that most people find languages with a good balance between Vowels and Consonants very sexy. What that means is that when speaking it, the language does not aound too frictional, and is quite free flowing and melodious to the ears.

@Naoma

Nice to read this post from you.
I some how missed your post previously.

Please what is the SOURCE or REFERENCE for the information you
posted here stating the Igala connection with the Yoruba and Ife?

I have in my personal library a magazine called "Roots International" of August 29, 1991,
Vol.1 no.3 that hypothesised that the early Ife indigenes were of Igala ancestry and
even stated that Eri's son [Onoja and his descendants] moved into the Ife area and indicated
that the early Ife kings before Oduduwa's arrival were of Igala origin
[Names such as OPERETI, ENEWA, AWUREBE, OBA IGBO, OLOJA, IKEDU].

On the other hand while searching for some information on Igala history
in 2015, I came across a post by an elderly Ebira man on Facebook who said he was
surprised that young Igalas online did NOT realise that Igala is the UNION of
EBIRA KOTO[Apa]+AKPOTO YORUBA

DNA tests from DNAland and AfricanAncestry.com are available that can confirm/trace the
DIRECT patrilinial or paternal links in the genetic pool among the Igalas, Yorubas and Ebiras.
This is something that has to be done this century.

You no go understand.. do you really think Yoruba will support ijaw or urhobo over itsekiri?, I was reading an article some time ago and if you see how the writer painted the whole story fear go catch you.

He wrote it as if urhobos are demon why itsekiris are angel.. sure it's a Yoruba media.. will help with the link later.
First and foremost, Yorubas do not hate Urhobos, never have and never will. Itsekiris don’t hate urhobos either. Every Itsekiri family have at least someone of urhobo ancestry in it one way or another.
Even some portions of Ijaws are our kin.

You know Ijaws are not a single group and are more like a confederation of riverrine people.

If only Urhobos and Itsekiris can solve their differences and get along. They will always be neighbors for life so it is better to solve the issue once and for all.

I think a government assisted/supervised ethnic boundry delineation will ensure continual peaceful coexistence.

buJu234:
I think the ijaws and uhrobo are not wrong after all.

The olu of itsekiri main domain is not warri city, its ode-itsekiri aka big warri, which is in the riverine and its different from the warri city.

The pictures above have confirmed it.

Warri belong to both itsekiri, ijaw, and urhobo so u guys should live together in peace.
Warri (The town) was actually a colonial era town built by the Btitish from scratch) So originally & traditionally speaking it should have no paramount king in the strictest sense (so to speak)- a situation similar to Kaduna, Jos, Port Harcourt or Enugu.

Kaduna for example has no traditional emirate being a colonial era settlement, but is built on land traditionally under the control of the Emirate of zazzau (based further north in Zaria)

In the same light-

The original land on which the first and oldest/original part of the city of Warri was built- i.e where the city started out from was within the Itsekiri cultural area- so, it is under the Olu’s purview- Although as a colonial era town, the traditional palace of the Olu was not inside the town- The town derived its name from the word “Iwerre” the traditional name of the Itsekiris.

Although warri metropolis has now spread to the neighboring urhobo local governments of Udu and Uvwie.
Ijaws have the weakest link to the actual city- and I am still trying to understand what their own claim hinges on. The Itsekiris and the Urhobos, we can all understand.

What examples can you give from the Ogori
People, and Oworos of Lokoja.

An OAP by the name of Oreka Godis is
from Ogori, Kogi. I never heard of the name
Ogiri until around 2010 when she granted

Oworos have names like:

Adoga
Ehimoni

Ogori and Magongo people bear either plain Yoruba names or names in their ethnic langaage of Oko- Eni- Osayen

I don't quite understand. Are you suggesting that Igala and Yoruba shared a common linguistic ancestor or that the two languages similarity a result of trade or a combination of both?
I don't understand too
How can simple trade interraction bring about a conplete change/overhaul in the entire language of a whole group of people? lol

A Yoruba man wil say ‘wa’ for come and ‘lo’ for go and an Igala man will do the same, and both will speak with similar intonations because of just ... “Trade” at one tiny market in Ajaokuta? grin

Igalas have been intereacting with Igbos for centuries now as well, why haven’t their language changed into Igbo?

No one will buy that.

The truth is that Yorubas and Igalas are the same ancestral stock. I don’t want to go as far as saying they migrated from very early Yorubaland, so I’ll jusy leave it at that.

This earlier oneness was far back enough that it was before the formation of the current Igala world view. I would even poatulate that Igalas and Yorubas were contiguous until Ebiras migrated from Kwararafa and settled in befween them. They, being the actual people who came from Jukuns and NOT the Igalas who only had one or two things to do with jukuns mostly interractional and not by descent.

Wow...it is now clear that the Igala migration
in the Anambra/Enugu/Delta North areas influenced the use of "Okuta or stone" which was
corrupted to "Okwute" in Ibo language!

Some people do NOT know that there are
indigenous Igalas or Igala-associated communities in Anambra/Enugu/Delta
North, etc. Examples are Asaba, Okpanam,
Onitsha, Illah, Enu, Ogbaru.

The Igalas introduced the RED CHIEFTAINCY
CAP into Iboland via Nsuka as well, and the
red chieftaincy caps are used by some
Nigerian cultures like the Yorubas of Kogi State,
Ebiras, Igalas, and some other Middle-Belt
ethnicities.

Last but not least, my number 1
question was on the translation
of C.OCK in Igala but the word was changed
funnily to "rooster" by the NL editing platform.

So can you kindly tell us what C.OCK means
in Igala language?

C.ock is called "AKUKO" in Yoruba, while
it is called "OKUKO" in Ibo.

Thanks again! smiley
How about the Igbo word “Ejima” for twins?
Which yorubas call Ejire or Ibeji?

That word looks too suspociously Yoruboid.

Especially since Eji means 2 across Yoruboids.
