With all the money he has, they are the type that come and price you 10k or max 20k in the hospital, him and his gang shouting at the top of their voices,"what did u do,is it not only drip and injection you gave that you are calling xx amount. What will u now charge if it's delivery or is it operation?" So setting up nairaland,a successful venture no doubt, does not necessarily mean Seun is an astute entrepreneur or a good chief executive or manager.
It's just like a one time Chelsea manager,Roberto Di Matteo that won the club its first champions league.
That was his one and only achievement as a club manager, everyother place he came from or went to he was just average or failed woefully and no one today regards him as a good manager despite the champions league triumph.

All those shouting the police did a good job are pure jokers!
Why conclude when autopsy report is yet to be released?
So the autopsy is just for fun when Nigerian police,in their usual jankara way have concluded on the person that killed him?
What are the gross findings from the autopsy, that would show if there was any trauma or underlying health issue that had compromised some or any of his organs or systems, not yet out!!
What of the toxicology report that would show if there was any drug in his system or unusually high levels of any drug that would normally not cause any problem when used in therapeutic doses, not yet out!!!
Yet the police has named the prime suspect, pronto.
Clowns!
It should surprise any medical person that a healthy man would die from therapeutic doses of the drugs mentioned, unless the nurse overdosed him on an already compromised health status or without sufficient hydration.

If not for religious madness, North is the best part of Nigeria.

The Hausas/Northerners are the most simple and honest people on the planet.

Oh North!
Anytime someone mentions the north I just have nostalgia about that place.
I said it,if north for the havoc Buhari caused with insecurity,I had plans to spend at least 3weejs or a month in the North, spending at least 5 days in at least the five states of ,Kaduna,Zamfara,Sokoto and Kebbi and even Kogi.
Another time then do the same for the axis of Benue,Nassarawa,Plateau, maybe Kano and even Borno.

Nauseating, stone aged creatures that should have remained colonised and save humanity this embarassment that some Nigerians in the 21st century have become.
I gave up on the average Nigerian when I heard how professors, people with degrees and other graduands, even some of them science graduands(1)believed salt could cure ebola and were actively using it (2)believe that old women can turn to birds,as witches and fly long distances to hurt people at night, then during day time change back to their aged human forms.
So this one is not a surprise.
That policemen even arrested the man shows that even stone aged Caucasian ancestors with more sense than some of today's Nigerians.
I am sure if not for Mary Slessor, twins in all parts of Nigeria would have been murdered as soon as they were born because Nigerians would still have believed twins are witches and wizards conceived to torment the mother and cause havoc to communities where they were born.

Politics › Re: Nigerians Return To 2G Devices As Economy Bites by seborrhic: 11:38am On Oct 04, 2023
promise4040:
Patricia Ogele, a 24-year-old sales girl, had reduced her expenses since November 2022 in a bid to get a smartphone for herself around August of this year. But her plan was thwarted by stubbornly high inflation, which has worsened the cost-of-living crisis in the country.

According to Ogele, everything changed when she could no longer afford transport to work after the cost of transport doubled, and she had to start dipping into her savings.

“I think many people are not talking about projects this year. Being able to afford basic needs is already a project in the country. All plans to get myself a good phone have failed. I earn just N35,000, which is barely enough to last me for the month. I had no option but to get something similar to the Nokia 3310 for N8,500 as that was what I could afford,” she said.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics show that inflation soared to an 18-year high of 25.80 percent in August from 24.08 percent in July.

The rising cost of living has diminished consumers’ buying power, forcing a growing number of individuals to opt for older second-generation (2G) devices as they are unable to afford modern alternatives.

According to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), 2G continues to be the dominant technology in Nigeria’s mobile market with 60.32 percent of the country’s 220.36 million mobile subscriptions on the 2G network as of August 2023 compared to 58.36 percent in May 2023.

This increase comes as a result of the economic downturn, which has left many individuals and families struggling to afford high-speed internet plans and modern smartphones.

“During times of economic uncertainty, we typically see a shift in consumer behaviour as people look for ways to tighten their budgets,” said Sarah Johnson, a telecommunications industry analyst.

“The shift towards 2G services and devices is a clear example of this trend. Consumers are prioritising basic communication needs over data-hungry applications,” she added.

The NCC data show 28.07 percent of those subscriptions were on 4G; 10.78 percent on 3G, and 0.83 percent on 5G, indicating low smartphone ownership in the country, despite sustained network investments by telecommunication companies (telcos) in the country.

Statista, a market data and research portal, reveals that only about 10 to 20 percent of the Nigerian population own a smartphone.

Alliance for Affordable Internet estimates the number of Nigerians with access to smartphones at 44 percent.

However, MTN disclosed that the number of smartphones on its network increased by 1.8 million in the first half of 2023, bringing its smartphone penetration to 53 percent.

One of the reasons for keeping 2G and 3G alive is the wide coverage it gives the telcos.

Ralph Mupita, president and CEO of MTN Group, in a recent report, said: “Out of its 289 million subscribers as of 2022, 92 percent of its population coverage are still on 2G, 84 percent are on 3G, 79 percent on 4G, and 4 percent on 5G.”

Various sources say rising prices for phones is a major issue. Many people, particularly those on the lower rungs of the economic ladder, still use feature phones, and they form the majority. Those on the higher rungs of the ladder use smartphones.

“3G phones are for people who can afford a meal somewhat. But poor people will use feature phones. 5G, for now, will be out of reach for many people, 2G goes far and wide. In rural areas, there are a lot of feature phones. There is also the issue of digital education; most people do not know the type of phone to buy,” an industry source said.

The average cost of 1 gigabyte of mobile data in Nigeria is $0.39 (N390), with the country ranking 31st out of 237 countries in terms of the cheapest mobile data, this is according to analysis by Cable.co.uk between July 5 and September 6, 2023.

In Nigeria, a low-income worker who earns below N30,000, which is the minimum wage, can barely buy enough data for the month, as the income is not enough to take care of basic needs.

As a result of this, telecommunication providers – MTN, Airtel, 9mobile, and Globacom active subscribers of internet service have seen less growth over the years.

In the past seven years, 9mobile has experienced a consistent decline in its Internet subscriber base, with an average loss of 134,000 subscribers monthly since June 2016. This decline began after it reached 17.2 million subscribers — its highest ever in April 2016, falling to 3.5 million in August 2023.

The NCC data also revealed that as of May 2020, Airtel and Globacom reported 37 million internet users each. However, Globacom and Airtel reported 43 million and 42 million respectively as of August 2023, while MTN had the highest number of internet users (68 million).

Quack journalism!
Agreed things are very tough and people are tightening their budgets, but in this report, only 1 person sampled was used as a yardstick to write and conclude on the reduction to 2G.
In my area for eg,I have not seen anyone buying 2G phone, many people are not just buying new smart phones, managing the ones they already have.
Everything about way we do things in Nigeria is just guesswork and there is this penchant for throwing figures around based not on a single element of fact or research.

Someone stole a card and goes through the arduous process of first pretending to want to buy an item, then asks for a refund of the money.
How does it make sense. They even pretended the father of the house has a stroke and came with their children to even buy the items.
At worst they just want to use the receipt they got from the item as evidence of purchase of an item to someone or an organisation in a case they are involved in or to with hold money they were borrowed or kept in their care.
It may even be a simple straightforward case of them wanting to get more funds from someone by showing proof they have used the original funds to purchase the item they claimed they wanted to use it for, without actually buying it.
The op revealing the item they bought would have lent credence to this theory I have of what the whole rigmarole was all about.
But of course typical of the average Nigerian, they claim politicians are fraudsters, but they hide things so no one gets to know they inflated the cost or lied outrightly about an issue.
These are not kidnappers or criminals, just people trying to play smart to milk more funds or hide one kept in their possession for other uses. I am 110% sure of it.
The stroke pretence and whole family coming to purchase the item should have told you these are people trying to use illness and family as evidence of something to someone, but of course, since Buhari graced our shores, commonsense is now as scarce as steel from ajaokuta.

Thank you sir, I love the concluding part of your post, this is the same patriotism I was talking about.
You also tried to make the point of nurturing these athletics in Nigeria.
But unfortunately, the incentive and facilities are not just here.Unlike football for eg,where there is a regular league(even at that footballers here still struggle till they go abroad),but these girls, asides from this youth games maynot participate in another event till maybe a national games festival next year,if they are lucky to be picked and not overlooked by corrupt officials in their states.
Due to that long period of idleness with no good coaching,if any at all, they become rusty or lose interest.
If they even enter universities here, their athletics career is as good as lost because they are either lost in the rigours of passing, get to do other life things in school or get harassed sexually by guys or even lecturers.
I know many girls that were into sports in sec school, could have been top talents but as they grew with no where to continue their dreams or entered universities or polytechnics, they were completely consumed by other life goals or fun.
In America, these don't apply and they know their continued sponsorship is dependent on them doing well in their chosen sports field,so they would have added incentive to focus and do well.
Even officials here are more interested in how much they can make when in office than helping groom anyone.

They need celebrating, despite my suspicions of the timing.
There was a time Nigeria used to consistently produce top sprinters, both male and female,on a consistent basis.
We used to dominate the sprint events, from 100m to 400m in Africa then enter at worst the finals in major world championships.
But now, even Kenya, better known for long distance running has a top class 100m sprinter while in events like 200,400 and now even 100m,Nigeria does not even have qualifying athletes at all!
The guys are now either into yahoo or football while the girls are now into runs or don't find any incentive to go into athletics.
If these 2 girls are nurtured and given incentives,no matter whatever time they may have run here, they can be the future of the sprints in Nigeria. They have the build to go with the sprint events.
One way of producing top athletes from Nigeria used to be through American schooling scholarships where they then get trained while schooling in college abroad and thus participating in athletics events in the US.
Our former stars like Mary onyali,Chidi imoh, Henry amike, etc, are not also doing well. They should be organising things like athletics academies, talent hunts in schools etc,or even finding places for athletics that have passed strict visa criteria to colleges in America,to find girls and boys that would continue carrying the touches they all boldly lit during their illustrious careers.

Every multinational corporation of today started as an SME.

Our varying administration economic policy formations are detrimental to the survival of the SMEs.
It's the corrupt Nigerian environment that is partly responsible for the distortions and the lack of priority paid to SMES.
Because some people in politics, goverment employment or linked to the goverment in some way are getting quick, big bucks virtually from government till,no one sees how terrible the Nigerian economy is.
Look at your neighbourhood and investigate that person that is building that hotel, plaza or one big mansion or buying up lands,is doing:it's either a government politician or a yahoo guy.Just a minute percentage are funds from genuine businesses.
In a truly market based economy,as we proffer to be practising,it's not the big corporations that are the pillars of the economy, but the SMES,the shop owner, restaurant owner, the car dealer, provisions shop owner, cement, flour, alcohol, soft drinks and beverages dealer and now the POS agents, etc.
Once these businesses start to struggle, the goverment panicks and puts in place insentives to resuscitate them.
But in Nigeria all what those in goverment are interested in is how many millions or billions they can reap off while they are in office to acquire as much property as they can, live off well and oppressed their fellow citizens.

If not for our inferiority complex and racism, with his performance in serie A,Osimhein should be commanding a hefty transfer fee and massive salary in either top premiership clubs or Real Madrid.
Assuming Osimhein was a halland or that guy man utd bought, with his top scorer feat in serie A last season, clubs like that would have closed their eyes at a $200m transfer fee and weekly salary of at least $400k.

You will be shocked at the technicality the SC will use to quash Atiku's appeal for disqualification.
Don't be surprised when the SC tells Atiku that eventhough there 'maybe discrepancies in Tinubu 's certificate that should ordinarily disqualify him,but failure of him to call the material witness whose signature he claimed was forged to testify, nullifies his application'.
Or they may be more ingenious and claim that since the certificate was issued by a foreign University,it doesn't disqualify Tinubu;or that certificate issues are pre election matters that Atiku should have filed at the lower court before the election, thus failure of him to do so or within a reasonable time frame, nullifies the appeal.
I have said it,anyone expecting the Nigerian judiciary to nullify a presidential election where INEC has declared and a president has taken office with all the executive and financial powers,is living in delusion.
The Nigerian judiciary doesn't have that character and Caliber of judges to deliver such judgement and may never have.

But if certificate is not an issue why insist not just on possession of a minimum of school certificate but a genuine one at that as a criteria for vying for political office?
