Let's hope for an architect to come along to provide insights?
In the meantime, using my engrg background, I went checking and came up with the following
The body that regulates architecture in the UK is the ABA - https://arb.org.uk/
The official register is collated at https://architects-register.org.uk/

As with anything else in the UK, starting point is the gov site.
To become an architect - www.gov.uk/architect
Process, qualifications, exams - https://arb.org.uk/architect-information/applying-for-registration-for-the-first-time/i-hold-overseas-non-recognised-uk-qualifications/

See: www.gov.uk/government/organisations/architects-registration-board

While still in 9ja, let your friend join this institute.
www.architecture.com/join-riba
Pls note just as in engrg, the regulatory body is different from the professional body.

Being a senior architect in 9ja, what registration does (s)he holds and with of the body does (s)he belongs to in 9ja?

My personal view
Anyone that is a qualified architect in 9ja (Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) Professional Practice Examination (PPE)) should not have it that difficult following the UK ARB route (above).
NB: I still think though that there should be some sort of cross recognition (like we have in engrg like the Washington Accord et al). In any case, 9ja allows those formally qualified in their own country to 'skip' the qualification requirement towards PPE (as I understand it) PS: I'm not an architect!!!

Let your friend join RIBA as an Associate - www.architecture.com/join-riba/associate-membership
Move to the UK to do a recognised PG course in Arch, while simultaneously working towards chartered
Or attempt doing a Professional Practice PG Cert/PG Dip in Arch on part time while in 9ja and working towards chartered membership of RIBA
All the best
Amarathripple0:
Any Architects in the house? A friend is a senior architect and has years of experience. He’s looking to practice in the UK and is wondering if there’s a process to convert/verify his Nigerian degree to the UK equivalent so he can to become a certified architect over here. He has both a BSc and Master’s degree in Architecture. He was told by someone over here that he has to start from scratch and understudy with a certified architect for two years before he can become a level 1 Architect. This to me doesn’t sound right, any insight on this would be helpful please.
[UPDATED]
Found what I was hoping for. A direct process to becoming chartered. I'll assume, just like for engrg, it's not going to be a walk in the park but should be straightforward for one that is genuinely qualified and practicing professionally.

You could perhaps get hands-on assistance from the General UK visa thread - https://www.nairaland.com/6969367/general-uk-visa-enquiries-part
There's another for work visa and another for students visa.

PS: when posting there, kindly provide more clarity. All the best.

Schoolhike:
Hello house, please I need advice about my expiring visa.
My wife had a resit and she just recently passed the module. But the issue is the school is yet to add the score to her transcript which could be used to apply for graduate visa stating that it is subject to the approval of the School Board Of Examiners and External Examiners which will comes up in January.
Our visa is expiring by jan 9 2023.
... ...
Now we are in a tight situation whereby our visa is only 3 weeks left.

I need advice on what else I can do please.
Yemsot:
My journey so far in the UK. (Please pardon my long epistle. This is to encourage someone.)
... ...
THE TROUBLE
When the placement was first terminated in June, I contacted the school's UKVI compliance office to inform them and to let them know that I would need an extension of my study visa (my visa was expiring in 31 December) because I had to resit the placement in the next academic session. The response I got was to wait till November before applying for the extension. When November came, my resit placement was terminated on the 12 but I still had the alternative assignment to do. Then I contacted the UKVI compliance office again for the extension of my visa. They contacted my faculty and lo and behold, the faculty said they did not have any reason to sponsor me since I would not be attending classes again. Meanwhile, I informed my department that I would need my result to be able to apply for the graduate visa, so, they told me to hand in to assignment on time so that it can be marked and the result collated. The result for that module was ready but the school's board was not going to sit on results until January 2022, whereas, my visa was expiring December 2021. The UKVI compliance office then sent me a mail telling me that they could not issue me a new CAS, also that they contacted the home office and they were told that I would not be eligible for the graduate visa because I did not gain the QTS with my PGCE, therefore, I should just go back to my country - even without having my result.

MY DILEMA
At that point I did not know what to do. I didn't want to go back home neither did I want to remain in the UK as an illegal immigrant.

RESOLUTION
... ...
5 weeks after my visa application (19 January), I got a mail from the home office, requesting for a new CAS, saying the CAS I used has been used for my previous application. I was given 10 working days to provide the CAS after which a decision would be made on my application.

DAY 1 (Wednesday): I couldn't do anything.
DAY 2 (Thursday): Started getting contacts of immigration lawyers.
DAY 3 (Friday): Contacted all immigration lawyers I knew but had the same response from them - they couldn't do anything to help me.
School's UKVI compliance office sent a mail requesting for my immigration status as my visa was to have expired in December.
During that weekend I, with the encouragement of my parents, decided to mail the school (copying everyone I could). I couldn't get the VC's email, but was able to get hold of the DVC student's email. We just thought it is either the school give a favourable response or not. In the email, I itemised my plight, starting from who I am being an international student, and how I felt during the course of my studies. I even wrote that I felt I was not being supported as an international student doing teacher training in the school. Also in my mail, I said that instead of me being informed of when my result would be ready, I was being chased with depressing emails and I felt as if the school just wanted to send me away after paying a huge sum in school fees; and I was being denied the opportunity enjoyed by international students in other universities (which is the application for the graduate visa). I informed them that I applied for an extension of my student visa and that the home office is requesting a new CAS from the school.

DAY 4 (Monday): The DVC responded to the mail, and appointed the head of the UKVI compliance and the Director of the School of Education to look into the issue as a matter of urgency.

Lightnlife can now comprehend one of his posts (on his thread) about people giving things up for free (just by the curb)
koonbey:
You must take it away or make arrangements with the landlord for them to keep it, otherwise, they’ll be entitled to deduct from your deposit to dispose of it.
Your options are to 1. Ring them and discuss and agree to leaving it
2. Sell it/give it away on gumtree or FB marketplace
3. Donate it to a charity shop (only if it’s still very new-ish and high quality). Most do come take things out for free.
4. Pay for removers for take it to the tip or to your new place.

I can't agree more with Koonbey. OP is in a termination period. He holds 'em no explanation. None. Zilch.
They irony is the company, using their financial advantage and possibly access to pool of lawyers, embark on an unending civil matter against OP, using OP words against him.
Can OP win, yes he can and claim damages. However, the drain on his finances, wellbeing, health, impact on new job will be so severe.

The way I see OP (Progressivegee) going about this matter, he's not being firm enough and circumspectly articulated.
He might also been acting impulsely on too many advices. Well, I know the Bible alluded to ... Safety in the multitude of counsel ... But then, that is to reflectively reflect and act accordingly.

PS: I don't mean to be rude. Kindly don't construed my response as one. All the best

I would say there's no need to delve into the bullying terms in-depth at this stage unless they escalate and you then interact with a UK lawyer regarding how to take that up specifically, if it comes to that.

Dear Progressivegee,
How do you respond. You respond by
- taking your time to read & thoroughly digest the suggestions and regulations you've been provided on this thread
- you respond with the minimal of words: concise, factual, with no emotions
- you stick your ground on the side of (labour) law.
- you refused to be bullied. Refused to be pushed to and fro.

Kindly formulate your own response as fitting your circumstances.
Below simply a thought. We are not in your shoe nor privy to factual details.
_____________
Dear {insert name}

Your email letter of 12 December re.

Further to my resignation letter, duly provided and forthwith acknowledged by yourselves, my contractual termination period of ONE WEEK shall lapse per extant dates in my resignation letter.
Kindly take notice the one week aligns to clause 1.5 4. as provided for in employment contract and Employment Rights Act 1996 (as amended).

I thank you for the opportunity provided to contribute my quota to your company, under the circumstances.

All the best.

With thanks

PS: advices herein are not construed as legal advices as contemplated in law
Progressivegee:
Hello guys, after officially sending my resignation and sighting issues of bullying, harassment and threat by the company, I got this mail from the MD who is the husband of the madam. I have gone through the contract over again and the only clause that talks about 4 weeks notice prior to resignation is if the employee has passed the 3 months probation and I am only 2 months old with the company.
How should I respond?

ICaSNg is correct regarding UK visa. I believe she's talking from vantage point of experience. Majority transit via UK.
However, if you have a direct flight to Ireland (Dublin) or connecting without passing through UK (say for instance Dubai or Doha), then you don't need UK visa.

In the ordinary sense Heathrow to Manchester would count as domestic flight. Well, unless you're not coming out of the flight at Heathrow! It all depends on what the connection is (from which Terminal). If you must get to security whilst following "connecting flight" path, then boarder control kicks in.
Kindly provide further info on how your flight is connecting from Heathrow to Manchester.
- single booking from departure, through transit to destination [LOS-LHR-MAN]
- collecting luggage at Heathrow?
[UPDATED]
For flights within Heathrow, use this to check using your flight ticket ,- https://www.heathrow.com/connecting-flights

Amarathripple0 is spot-on. Thanx a bunch.
Lemme chip in with emphasis. Think like a PM, talk like a PM, relate to scenarios as a PM, express as a PM. While at it, learn to differentiate the role and scope of a PM to a Program/portfolio Mgr/Director (and if need be a project coordinator). Note, the 'higher' one goes towards portfolio mgt, the more value (benefit realisation), change mgt and risk becomes strategically important.
One area I know is important is risk. Know how to anticipate risk, handle/manage risk and to learn from risk. It covers every stages of a project and handover. Risk in project might vary slight from risk in infosec/cybersec.

If you can afford it, volunteer for PM or project coordinator roles. If you do, do it with utmost diligence (at least for the sake of that elusive experience and footinthedoor, and possibly building network)
NB: PM principle stays and last, however the nuances evolves over time.
Amarathripple0:
The certificate is a plus, a lot of companies love it when candidates have PM certificates. However, the certificate is not enough. While skills are transferable, you need the actual PM knowledge and experience to scale through the interview process because the questions asked would be targeted towards projects you have worked on, how you handled conflict, methodologies you use, PM tools you use etc. Some companies would even ask you to do a presentation of a project you managed from start to finish.
If you don’t have any PM experience, my advice on how to scale the interview process would be to tailor your response in a way that a PM would. Imagine yourself as the one who managed the project’s lifecycle from start to finish including the team, budget etc. Also use PM buzz words like stakeholder, baseline, project sponsor, risk assessment, highlight report, impact analysis, change control, scope, etc. (don’t overdo this though).
You should also google Project Management interview questions and how to answer them. (Reddit has a lot of gems)
You can also target graduate roles as they do not care much about you having any PM experience. However, don’t depend on graduate roles alone, apply to non-graduate roles as well and just sell yourself.

There's been some discussion on this thread on investment and pension. There's room for more wider and tailored discussion.
Regarding pension investment, there're safeguards, guidelines, regulations in place. There's the pension regulator. Nonetheless, investment remains #risk.

We had lectures Monday to Friday from 9am till 4pm, after which we were given loads of assignmnents. We had two placement blocks - one during the autumn term and the other from spring 2 term till the end of summer term. During the placement days we were going to our placement schools like teachers (i.e full-time). My first placement went smoothly in key stage 1, but trouble started during my second placement.

There's the YouKay way and the 9ja way. Each comes in 2s
The 9ja way of accommodating and also gra gra.
There's the YouKay way of cold-shoulder and politeness (though can be passive aggressive!)
You've shown/given the YouKay politeness and 9ja accommodating. That's how it ought to be.
However, when things turn around, then the cold-shoulder comes in without the gra-gra. Though passive aggressive might be needed!

I'm a believer of the two-sided story. However, even at that, there's the on face value (prima facie).
In the circumstances, read up on @Ticha posts on room/house boarder. There's recourse in 'law' (without the need of 9ja gra-gra. All the best.
But then street #cold o!!! #JustSayingNio
PS: your 'friend' is not representative of Nigerians. That does not mean there're no 9ja like him.

By the way, seems you went against your own admonition to your wifey ... she showed it. It was like a pay-back moment for all the guy's behaviours to her in Naija but I would not have any of that ... You too wan show the guy for all his nonsensical nonsense behaviours since he moved in. wink smiley wink
babajeje123:
Advise needed please.
Now I am begining to understand why most Nigerians here don't want to accomodate newcomers who are Nigerians. I accommodated a guy who is becoming difficult for me to handle just because I don't like wahala. ... ...
He started saying a lot of things about him getting accommoation that I was not listening to. But the last thing he said made me to decide to put this here. I heard him said, 'I will leave when I get a good accommodation'. I just said okay, he ate his food and left for his room.

Please I need advise to handle this maturedly. Since he came none of his people called to say 'thank you' not even his girlfriend that we know. But I don't care at all as all I want is for him to leave as I don't want to continue to sacrifice the comfort of my family to someone who is unappreciative.

[UPDATED]
Ticha:

https://www.gov.uk/rent-room-in-your-home/your-lodgers-tenancy-type

See where it says reasonable notice? It's just that. What is reasonable to the home owner. Like I wrote earlier, if for any reason the home owner also calls the police be that out of malice or otherwise (which we cannot discount), your friend will be removed immediately. Also if no money is changing hands ie she's not actually paying rent but providing services for accommodation, then she is an excluded tenant as well so can be asked to leave without notice.

Her only recourse will be if they have a written contract that says otherwise ie states a specific notice period. However, your friend will have to take her to court to enforce that and where will she stay in the meantime?

It's easy to say she should fight and stay. How is she going to share a house, lounge, bathroom and kitchen with someone who does not want her there? That relationship is going to go south very, very quickly.

As I understand it, the contention is how much is actually claim back. As in ego li.
At least, we all know now that if one of the partner is below the threshold of £12570, MA is an option.
PS: legalistic speaking, reduce by is not exactly the same as claim up to. That does not make me tilt to either!
Peerielass:
Again this post is misleading! The maximum amount of tax relief available from Marriage allowance is £252 i.e £1,260 @ 20% tax.
https://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance
... ... To claim that people can obtain tax relief up to £940 from Marriage Allowance is very misleading.
japhethGold:
MARRIAGE ALLOWANCE-MA
... ...
There is evidence that couple who utilize their MA could reduce their tax bill by an amount ranging between GBP365 to GBP 960 per annum. So, why not claim MA.

My admonition remains

In that instance, Fatima04 to the rescue. see pages 521 and 724
AlphaUno:
You get in touch with UKVI directly and state your position. Someone posted the link here some weeks back on how to use a new bank details for the refund.

What if the source where the payment was made from no longer exist. I used my payoneer card to pay and now its blocked

See attached and follow the link for more information

semmyk:
I'll assume UKVI is aware of batter's shutdown and might even attempt to contact you; either when refunding or failed refund.
Whichever way, my gut feeling is to try and contact them ahead of time explicitly articulating the circumstances factual.

I don't know if this still works:
Contact Details for UK Visa and Immigration Enquiries
Email: UKVAIG.ServiceIntegration@fco.gov.uk
UK Telephone: +44 1243 213 322
Open: 10:00am - 6:00pm

Read this definitive YouKay page and read in-between the line of the journalistic write-up.
https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/switch-to-this-visa
Essentially, apart from 'trafficking' traffic, the whole jist is that requirement of a degree is being dropped!
IMHO, this only relates to the job skill requirement. It's not a free for all automatic students to skilled worker visa. But then, won't that be great? grin
The 'subtle' change in eligibility (that is dropping the degree requirement) is welcomed. By the way, wonder how #Suella will take it in!!!
Short response to your enquiry is 'Yes' However, the Yes is based on the clarity above. No degree eligibility
NB: technically, a degree has not been mandatory however, it is typically required! I guess this update is simply adapting to the real-life reality. In any case, expect more COS, more sponsoring companies, and unavoidably more YouTubers!
obitryce:
Please @ Justwise and all, how true is this information?

It’s necessary sometimes.

Please be advised that if you are using your property as a resident for your family, ie you live in it by yourself, you can not claim mortgage interest relief.

hello nairalanders,
i have gotten my cas and i’m about to go for my tls appointment in a week or so. my problem is that i was refused a canadian study permit in october bc “the details in my application are not consistent with a temporary stay” and i’m worried my uk visa would be denied. like my dad has the bank statement and all, speaking of if i use the same bank statement i used to get my cas to apply for my visa is that ok? like i don’t know how the 28day mark works. but i asked someone and they said that as long as i use the same bank statement i used for my cas w/o withdrawal from it that it’s okay. but i can’t help but worry bc i don’t want another refusal.
