Simple response: dependent have right to work.
I shall soon update with previous responses

No. They must have their 'right endorsed' in their BRB. This is straightforward and by default.
Yes. It is okay they click on eligible to work.

Yes. As a dependent you have unlimited right to work any job/any skill level including self employment and voluntary work, (except the usual restrictions on working as a doctor or dentist in training or as a professional sportsperson/coach).

[03 Dec '22] As for career paths, anybody can do anything you are hired to do, apply to anything you feel you can do, manage your expectations realistically and don't expect to get a job {straightaway} in the field in which you apparently get or have had a qualification: you might though. Nonetheless, reskill (if or where need be), strive, strategise, keep at it ambitiously doggedly. While at it, don't lose sight of that elusive UK experience and bills to pay. Get in and scale up. (Scale up visa not mandated cheesy wink cheesy )
In all your getting, don't get lost like needle in haystack. Little drops that make the ocean comes in varying #sizes.

Ah, I see you guys had the right idea. Una do well, Fati and co, and thanks for the invite, icon8. Unfortunately the last thread had become overwhelmed, and it was extremely difficult to follow.
I'm sure the students will catch up with us here, so for those who eventually do:

- please read, read, read, research research, research and only ask targeted questions, biko. Leave out the stuff about career advice and what course to read in the UK (guidance counselling is up to you), or which airline to fly (situation is fluid and you know as much as everyone else does), where jobs are (use your intelligence, the rough rule is the bigger the city, the more the opportunities, but cheap costs of living generally go with fewer opportunities, just like everywhere in the whole wide world, so you can answer the Hull versus Teeside questions for yourselves), housing is difficult to get from outside the UK, when you come here, if you're looking for anything other than student accommodation for one, be prepared to pay rent for months upfront (coming from Nigeria where rent is paid annually, there should be no difficulty getting your mind around the concept), unless the money no dey (which shouldnt be the case if you followed the rules), the digital banks Monzo, Starling et al, are real FSCS-protected banks and your money is safe in them, use them as your first port of call when you arrive, etc., etc.

As for career paths, anybody can do anything you are hired to do, apply to anything you feel you can do, manage your expectations realistically and don't expect to get a job in the field in which you apparently get or have had a qualification. For part-time jobs, the usual care homes, or try Royal Mail (Angard Staffing - I think they should have started their Christmas casual recruitment about now), Amazon (pay is good these days, up to 12 quid or so), Reed or Blue Arrow, and of course word of mouth; for full-time jobs: Indeed.com, Glassdoor, Totaljobs, and the Guardian.com Jobs and similar entities, the supermarkets and fast-food jobs as usual (browse and apply online and try walk-ins to local branches), etc.

Again, read, read, read, and research, research, research. Try not to derail this new thread, and remember that it is in your own interests for threads like this to exist so you can come and glean knowledge when you need it. Thank you all as you do so.

In aiming for the stars, one might land on the moon or even the cloud. Yet, some might not scale up pronto. Nonetheless, each one must keep preparing with tenacity and aiming high with precision, giving it their ALL.
May we all reach the pinacle of our endeavours. Yet, the summit of Koma hill differs from Idanre rolling hills or Olumo rocks. Ditto, the peak of Kilimanjaro ain't summit of Everest. Each, present a breathtaking view!!! and 'satisfaction' in its own way.

Kindly advise with which organisation/body I can escalate to, to recover our £775 deposit back. And will I pay for this service? We are based in Liverpool.
Many thanks!
koonbey:
Did you have a tenancy agreement in writing and signed?
Did that agreement state that the landlord would use a deposit protection scheme?

I notice OP quoted Ticha post. OP could start from there.
Ticha:
You have a tenancy under law so fear not. As long as you're paying rent as agreed, you have an active tenancy. Lexus is right. In this case, you won't even lose your deposit regardless of damage because he has broken the law by not lodging it and therefore can't claim anything off it. Even if he lodges it later, he has still failed to abide by the tenancy act. The good thing about not having a signed agreement is that there are no detrimental clauses he can enforce - at all.
... ...
But if you're leaving after 6 months, just relax and take him to the dispute resolution once the tenancy ends and claim back your deposit plus the extra. And if he has not provided any right to rent documents, claim the whole of your 6 months rent back too. First and foremost - check that he definitely hasn't protected it. You can easily check any of the 3 services - https://www.gov.uk/tenancy-deposit-protection/if-your-landlord-doesnt-protect-your-deposit
Make sure you give the right notice. Which is one month. Read here for more information - https://www.gov.uk/private-renting-tenancy-agreements/your-landlord-wants-to-end-your-tenancy

Viruses:
This is not something to agree upon, it is law.
Viruses:
Type in Google - my landlord did not protect my rent deposit. You should be able to claim x3 times of the deposit back. You are supposed to have a rental agreement but just give it a try.

So, I gave np.where a shot just now. Trick seems to be nested np.where (NB: two 'cascaded' np.where gave a wired output).

NB: NL doesn't preserve indentations.
NB: I used mybinder online from my tab.

## np.where | https://numpy.org/doc/stable/reference/generated/numpy.where.html
## import libraries
import pandas as pd
import numpy as np

## create data
A = np.arange(20, 30, 3) #This will create a list with 4 elements (needed to ensure at least one NaN)

#B = np.random.default_rng().integers(3, size=(4)) #Generate a 5 x 1 array* of ints between 0 and 2, inclusive:
B1 = np.arange(3,6)
B_add = np.random.default_rng().integers(1,3, size=(3))
B = np.append(B1, B_add) #concatenate or vstack for scalar
print(f'A: {A} | B: {B}')

## create dataframe, transposed, and check the created data
cols_test = pd.DataFrame([A,B]).T
cols_test[1] = cols_test[1].astype(int) #Ensure the pclass column is int
cols_test

## define function to check NaN/null age and assign age

age1 = cols.loc[:,0] # assign first column to age Series

pclass = cols.loc[:,1] # why compare operator instead of assign | pclass == cols[1]

## nested np.where
age_null = np.where((cols[0].isnull()) & (cols[1]==1), 37,

[update] Intuitively, I just checked online now and realised that what you're working on (the Titanic dataset) apparently has many examples.

These two might be of assistance.
PS: going by them, then my assumption in my worked example is in line with what I assumed them to be.
NB: I could have even opted for np.where()

ok. Noted sir.
If you could provide the exact error message. That will help. Typically, that's the easiest way to assist.

While at it, kindly take note that a code might not throw an error, but might still have a functional error. essentially, it runs but the outcome is not the intended.
In your case, the positioning of elif, else goes a long way in what the code would do.
See, for instance, the snapshot below. NB: this is based on assumption and generated data (which will be different from that of your trainer)!

DasaintHope:

Thanks boss! If I understand correctly the issue is the = I put instead of == right?
Modified:
Boss the problem still persists. The issue is with the last else statement.

In between, I'm not sure why the trainer used the example (s)he used.
Not so sure it's pythonic enough.

Programming / Re: Python: Explorative Data Analysis, Replacing Nan. Help! by semmyk(m): 6:38pm On Nov 20, 2022
Glancing through, seems you might have multiple error down the line.
First step, kindly check your indentations

Something like below. I'll try run with random value and feedback.
Updated: I see NL distorted the indents. I've manually insert "." to try and preserve indents. Kindly remove all the "."
Updated: I see NL continues to distort. I'll do a screenshot

def impute_age(cols):
age = cols[0] # assign first column to age Series
pclass = cols[1] # why compare operator instead of assign | pclass == cols[1]

if pd.isnull(age):
if pclass == 1: #integer
return 37
elif pclass == 2: #integer
return 29
else:
return 24
else:
return age

impute_age(cols_test)

DasaintHope:
Good day I am new to data analysis and python I want to replace all NaN value in titanic dataset, specifically the age column.
I created a function:

def impute_age(cols):
age = cols[0]
pclass == cols[1]

if pd.isnull(age):

if pclass == 1
return 37

elif pclass == 2:
return 29

else:
return 24

else:
return age.

The output goes: Syntax Error: invalid syntax.
it indicated the last else was the issue. The video I am following the tutor did exactly this and had no error.
I would appreciate your input.

I'm not exactly sure I understand what it is you intend.
Switch from student to workers
Is the concern about the students' 20hrs restrictions, or
Is the concern about the additional work 20hrs restriction.

If it's the students, then you're no longer bound once you switch. Simply put, no restriction.
If, however, it's the limitation on additional work hrs after you've switched to workers, then you follow the rules on gov.uk | However, the challenge one will face is not the additional work, but keeping up with study and justifying the study and additional work in tandem with the work (one now has workers permit for).
https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa/second-job

Think ILR down the line. Think health, think quality of life.

hustla:

[https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa]
What you can and cannot do
With a Skilled Worker visa you can:
- work in an eligible job
- study
- ... ...

Overview from Gov.uk
A Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer.
This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa.

KCL (Kings College) emphasise that you “must intend to work”. Invariably, working becomes primary and study secondary! Ditto, the reverse

USW (South Wales) goes further to put beyond doubt
If you are in the UK in a work related immigration category..., you may undertake study that fits around your work. There is no condition which prohibits study. Therefore you are free to undertake part time or full time study whilst you are working. You should however be mindful of the following issues:
Work/study balance ... ...
Length of the course and visa expiration date ...
Leaving and re-entering the UK ...
What do you intend to do afterwards? ...

Kindly note that a number of UK universities have not updated their websites: Tier 2, Tier 4, Tier 5!!

My honest opinion will be, aim to move to Global Talent Visa (Researcher route). Why? With a UKRI funding, if it were me, my focus will be on ensuring publishing in top 20 or top 50 journal in the discipline (at worst at least a journal on Scopus). Once the PhD is completed or with about 6 mths to the end of the PhD or once submitted or submitting the thesis, you go all out for PGRA posts. Currently, with an offer, with publication and with a PhD (or PhD in view) , you should get Global Talent Visa (researcher route). It comes with tons of benefits!
NB: for the Global Talent Researcher route, you do not have to be in digital technology.

PS: I'll perhaps chip in that one is not compelled to spend the full 3 (or 4 yrs) for PhD. It's (technically) possible within the 2nd to 3rd gap!
In any case, opting to work (switch visa) and fast tracking your PhD boils down to personal choice.

With all above said, holding on to your UKRI funding might 'get a K leg'. However, it depends on the funding condition, which we're not privy to.
Adazeal:
Hello house, please I've come with my questions again.
Please, if a person on UKRI funded PhD happens to get a sponsorship and wants to switch visa while still continuing with the PhD (won't interfere with normal school activities), do you think the school would have a problem with it or withdraw the funding? After careful consideration personally, I'd like to hear the opinions of y'all should I have missed to factor in something important. Please what are the pros and cons?
cc Ticha, semmyk, TheGuyFromHR
One of earlier posts.
semmyk:
Global Talent, in a way, is a spin off Tier 1, the part that was covered by the defunct HSMP (which I had b4 collapse). Global Talent now covers more ground. In a way, it bridges the gap between the (difficult to scale) Tier 1 and the old HSMP.
... researcher/academic route: www.gov.uk/global-talent-researcher-academic
... ...
The researcher route would appeal to those that are research 'active'. Although a PhD is expected, it is not an absolute bar. IMHO, even if with a Master, one might scale through: your publications and research outputs count. The researcher route has about four sub-routes. The two I consider straightforward are
- Receiving a research fund (NB: this is from a UK listed research agency and not just the ones you get for doctorate research)
- get a (qualifying) research job

[Edited] At times, some might many get away with it. At times, seemly it's because of the assumption if (s)he has valid ILR, most likely (s)he has the right: no need to make 'queues' long!
Typically, Naturally, ILRs gravitate towards the UK/EEA lane. Checks are less tedious. Operationally, the BRP Identity is checked (fingerprint linked to database) without all the 'questioning'

Once a person scale boarding in 9ja (BRP with proof of ILR, convince 'em that 9ja passport under processing by High commission in UK...), typically coast clear. Would normally not be refused entry in UK (if at all, just some inconveniences)
Solumtoya:
You sure? Even with ILR, the person might still need a valid passport.
justwise:
Yes but only if the person is holding ILR or a British passport otherwise no.
Osoderi:
Thank u. but the problem is coming back to UK, can he still travel from Nigeria with that expired passport?
Osoderi:

I'll assume UKVI is aware of batter's shutdown and might even attempt to contact you; either when refunding or failed refund.
Whichever way, my gut feeling is to try and contact them ahead of time explicitly articulating the circumstances factual.

This is a collation on NRPF: focussed on IT bootcamps.
Long and short, if it's EFSA based/sponsored, it's (most likely) not public fund. For others, whether DfE, DPW, check (as in shine ur eyes well well) and thread carefully.
Wolverhampton Council site has a great collation for NRPF

zxxtx:
Guys, be careful, I emailed one of the companies hosting the Bootcamp and this is what I get.
[Extract]
Thank you for your email.
So unfortunately you wouldn't be eligible due to your visa.
This is due to the work restrictions and having no access to public funds, as the bootcamps are designed to get you into employment and it is government funded.

Tinyemeka:
I've recently been coming across different stories of people who after their work or studies, applied for Leave to Remain and got their applications declined and in one horror case, approved and later rejected. The commonest reason for these rejections being that they accessed Public Funds.
[Addition: Mon 21 Nov '22] https://www.gov.uk/guidance/find-a-skills-bootcamp/eligibility
PS: kindly note zxxtx post. Continue to thread cautiously.
... ...
[quote author=Gemma11 post=118460660] ... ... I posted a link to a UK Govt sponsored free skills bootcamp further. The requirements appear to be that one must have the legal right to work in the UK which I assume most in this thread do. If anyone has the brain power to take advantage of these boot camps then please do as they would be highly beneficial and put you in good standing when it comes to applying for Tech roles which pay very well when compared to others.

jum33:
Hello peeps ,there a have been a lot of free IT bootcamp training spring up lately and being funded by ministry of education .Requirement is mostly about having the legal right to work and must have lived in UK for at least 3 years .
Can this be counted as a public fund
www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/united-kingdom-department-for-education-pledges-up-to-4-800-000-to-fund-coding-boot-camps-with-edx-301641026.html
zealog:
Please just to be clear. Can someone on a student visa access the bootcamp programs? ... ...
Moreover, since the bootcamps are free, will they not be regarded as usage of public funds
zxxtx:
Hi, this is funded by the department of education, does it mean public funds. I am very interested but I am not to access public funds.
Zahra29:
I would probably say no, because technically you do not have a separate and unrestricted right to work in the UK
However you should contact a couple of training providers to clarify the requirements and your eligibility
Officialkplus:
Can someone under student visa apply for this bootcamp..? Is it not regarded has public funds ..?
Zahra29:
From the government website there are unclear "residency requirements". Try contacting a couple of training providers to clarify what these requirements are and if you are eligible:

Eligibility
Explains who can apply for a Skills Bootcamp.
Skills Bootcamps are free flexible courses of up to 16 weeks for people looking for a new role or job opportunity.

Once you complete the course, you’ll be offered a job interview. If you’re self-employed, your Skills Bootcamp provider will help you find new work opportunities.

You may be eligible to apply for a Skills Bootcamp if you:
- are aged 19 or over
- have the right to work in the UK
- live in England
- meet residency requirements – the training provider can check this
- If you claim Universal Credit, you can apply and continue to claim benefits.
Some Skills Bootcamps have additional eligibility criteria. Contact the training provider to check if you’re eligible and apply for the course.
semmyk:
NVQ (England, Wales), SVQ (Scotland) funded training/bootcamp tilts towards public funds: they would trigger NRPF). However, I'll think if the employer is registering and the employer is paying, it might not be 'public funding'; so long the employer is not #govt!!! [TheGuyFromHR to the rescue to define govt]
Check the type of training and the funding.
See also www.gov.uk/government/publications/qualifications-in-new-funded-offers
DeeOneBangin:
Thanks for the input. Found out that ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency) doesn’t count as public funds

semmyk:
Great. Just for completeness.
Apprenticeship funding rules for employers: Education and Skills Funding Agency (Updated: 17 August 2022)
[url]www.gov.uk/guidance/apprenticeship-funding-rules-for-employers/annex-a-eligibility-criteria-who-we-fund#:~:text=E318[/url]
Annex A: Eligibility criteria (who we fund)
Who can apply for apprenticeship funding. Includes criteria for residency and citizenship.

Non-UK nationals
E307
A non-UK national (with exception to those that fall into the categories above) is eligible for funding if they have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands for at least the previous 3 years on the first day of their apprenticeship and have permission from the UK government to live in the UK (not for educational purposes) or have obtained pre-settled or settled status under EUSS.

Individuals with certain types of immigration status and their family members
E318
The individual’s immigration permission in the UK may have a ‘no recourse to public funds’ condition. This does not include education or education funding, so this does not affect an individual’s eligibility, which must be decided under the normal eligibility conditions.

Once again, thanks DeeOneBangin This will assist many. We can perhaps generalised for most (NVQ based) workplace training if linked to ESFA.

A little more digging
www.nrpfnetwork.org.uk/information-and-resources/rights-and-entitlements/education/further-education
Further education (FE) courses are funded by the UK Government for students in England through the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). Further education is normally undertaken by students age 16 or older. It also includes adult education ...
FE funding is not classed as a public fund for immigration purposes and can be accessed by a young person or adult if they are subject to the 'no recourse to public funds' (NRPF) condition.
However, to qualify for FE funding, a student must meet requirements relating to their immigration status and length of residence in the UK. These rules can be complex and are set out in detail by the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) ...

One thing one will quickly find about the UK (other places though) is that often, there's element of ambiguity. I know I jokingly said recently along the line ... how do you 3xpect lawyers to make £ when it's time for ILR ...

We have established on this thread that ESFA FE fundings are not Public Funds.
However, these (IT) bootcamps falls under the DfE skills for life program. Unfortunately, there's no clarity if the skills for life fall under ESFA.
We've said, one should try and use the duckling rule and thread cautiously. Someone added (I think ma'am Ticha or Mamatukwas) along the line that if you have to apply for it specially, it might most likely be PF.
With that said though, it would appear the bootcamps might be safe. PS: don't take my words for it though. Kindly also note the subtle caveat ... Free - Funded by the Govt if you are applying as yourself and not through an employer scheme!!!
Read more from the NRPF site and skills for life site. This Wolverhampton Council site might assist. (I kinda like the way they collate NRPF)

YouKay life is not BUGA. It is focus, strategy and purpose. Yes, we all need to wind down often!
Thastie:
So there are Ghanaians in my workplace and the annoying thing is they all want to compare their country with Nigeria at every opportunity. Its annoying. They'll be the first one to tell me about Nigerians that lost their kids or are in the country illegally...just to gloat. It's really pissing me off. Whenever they do comparison, I just tell them Nigeria has 36 states so what part of Nigeria are you referring to?
And the most annoying thing is Nigerians at my workplace are so dominated and defeated, they don't even argue, they just accept it.

While elder Lexusgs430 is on sabbatical, let us chip in. I'll be brand neutral, hence not specific.
Look for blender that is 3HP (about 2.2KW) engine rating. Any 2000W should do as well. Exception is if there're other defects like the one pointed out here #leak
NB: 1000W would work great for a while but would soon buckle under load or repeated use.
HollyMadison:
Hi elders. Please can you recommend a blender for beans? i.e akara and moi moi

Nothing to prove. There is an option that allows the fact that you have proven the proficiency in previous applications. (Eg student visa)
