Christianity EtcRe: It Feels Like Someone Lied To Me by seyibrown(f): 1:40am On Nov 30, 2011
ishow2005:
Why "In Jesus Name" We Pray?
When I was about sixteen years old I heard the Minister say; "In Jesus name we pray" I was in shock. My whole life I had been taught to pray to God. Now they say we are supposed to pray in Jesus name?
I went and ask the Minister why he said "In Jesus name we pray"? He showed me in the Bible the verse he was using for reference. In Colossians 3: 17 " And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
This went against what I was taught by my family and I couldn't accept it. In the Bible it says; Exodus 20:3-6 God said to Moses; "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a Jealous God,"
2

As a young man it seemed to me that praying in Jesus name was going against God.
The other point is, this is not the way Jesus told us to pray. In Mathew 6:9 "Pray then like this; Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Nowhere in the Bible did he say pray in my name. I later found out this was the teaching of Paul not Jesus.
My true intention is to reach heaven. I had to find the right way. All through my life as a Christian I became more curious and as the title of this story says; I'm concerned with honesty, after all, our eternal life will be based on honesty. In the Old Testament, Deuteronomy 5: 19-20, two of the Ten Commandments, "And you shall not steal. And you shall not bear false witness against your neighbor".
, ,
--'

Both of these verses deal with honesty. Honesty must be very important to God. --to be contd God willing
John 16:23 = In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

Christianity EtcRe: Divorce Is Scriptural by seyibrown(f): 1:57am On Nov 22, 2011
@ poster

Love covereth a multitude of sins. Love will forgive fornication/adultery. Remember 'forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us'? God hates divorce; God wants a lasting godly union that will raise godly offspring (adopted or natural). Divorce was only permitted by Moses because of the hardness (sure there is more packed into this word here e.g greed, selfishness, lust for another woman, unforgiveness etc) of the men's hearts.

I agree with Eben 2's post.

PoliticsRe: Ekiti Hausa Community Wants Political Appointments by seyibrown(f): 2:08pm On Oct 27, 2011
Shall we start with 'What is the population of this Hausa community'? If it is a sizeable population, they could put forward a local government councillor in the next elections to start with. If it is only the population of those who live in Sabo, it's too small produce a Councillor! Cattle-counting gimmicks will not be allowed! If there is any suitable qualified one amongst them they need to move in the right circles to get an appointment.
Christianity EtcRe: Psalm 109: Why Is It In The Bible? by seyibrown(f): 1:28pm On Oct 27, 2011
In Psalm 109, David was putting a petition before God! He wanted God to deal with his enemies because he couldn't handle them himself.  For David, it was not a matter of Iya Sikira vs Iya Ngozi! We are talking matters that would decide the fate of a whole nation. Psalm 109 is not the only psalm where this kind of petition is made. There are at least 20 psalms in this tone.

If your enemies keep sending bombs into your country everyday, It'd be very very silly to keep sending them food supplies in 'retaliation'!  smiley When you ask God to favour you with the promotion that Supervisor who hates you at work wants to give to someone else, you are effectively asking God to put that Supervisor to shame, whether you say it in those exact words or not! He will be very ashamed when you get the promotion after he has bragged to everyone that you won't get it!  smiley

There is a time to bless, and a time to curse! There is a time to cry out to God in pain when the enemy refuses to leave you in peace! That was exactly what David did. Spiritual warfare is aimed at the power behind the enemy, which is the devil, but the enemy who serves as a conduit for the devil in your persecution will get his share of the judgement.

It is not right to pray that one's colleague/neighbour/Husband's mistress die in a car accident for the harm they've caused but the soul of a petitioner will cry out crazy things to God when they are under persecution. The petitioner alone knows where and how much it hurts.
Christianity EtcRe: Should Believers Marry Unbelievers? by seyibrown(f): 12:28pm On Oct 27, 2011
Being 'unequally yoked' with an unbeliever will have serious consequences on a true Xtian's life! Ask those who married unbelievers when they had 'backslidden' only to come back into the faith! There will be no partner to 'join hands and faith' with to pray for your marriage and life matters. There will be no 'one' to lift you up when you fall. Your spiritual concerns will not be his/her concerns. An unbelieveing spouse will not be able to encourage you when you need that spiritual encouragement.  It is a very very difficult life. You will be carrying a burden meant to be eased by two alone. Remember how Solomon's strange wives turned his heart from God? It's a real risk when you marry an unbeliever. You may find in the end that your heart will be turned from God.

Marry someone who you will grow togther in the Lord, not someone who will keep stagnate your journey or even turn you back from God. Marry someone who revers God and wants to walk with him! If you knowingly yoke yourself with an unbeliever, you will PAY for it! As Xtians, we should know that everything God tells us not to do is for our own benefit! When we trespass, we get to understand WHY he said not to do it in the first place . . . . and finding ourselves in such situations are far from enjoyable! smiley
FoodRe: Are There Soup Kitchens In Nigeria? by seyibrown(f): 11:51am On Oct 27, 2011
Nigerians still have and have always been charitable. It is what hss brought so many people this far, considering that there is little or no help from the government for the masses. The culture of 'organised' charity such as 'soup kitchens' might not be existent, but there are many neighbours (and even strangers) who feed and clothe other neighbours, who lend them money when they are in need, who provide shelter, who pay the school fees of people they are not even related to.

Many Nigerians survive on the 'unorganised unrecognised unpublicised' charitable deeds of fellow Nigerians. We may not have Soup Kitchens but we give more than food.

Poor Gaddafi! He died like a DOG!  sad  sad  IMO, He met the befitting end he chose! He should have done the honorable and sensible thing by leaving power and possibly moving to another Country when his people wanted a change of government! He could have watched things unfold from self-exile in safety, and if his people had been proved wrong in their choice to remove him from power, they could have asked him back. I can't believe he didn't even leave Libya!

The good and the evil he did will not be forgotten most especially by those who were directly affected!

Poor Gaddafi! May the souls of all Libyans (nationals and non-nationals) lost in the Gaddafi era rest in the peace they deserve! Amen!

. . . . that said, may all countries held captive by dictators/tyrants be prised out of their hands when they least expect! Amen!

. . . 'educated modern woman' employing an underage girl as omo odo, in this day and age?  Why don't you employ a grown-up woman to look after this young girl and your home? That would be a better way of showing you really care for this young girl, and that you ARE 'educated and modern' like you say you are.

Good luck, OP!

Thread cleaned by me. Sorry to any innocent posters. And for the second and FINAL time, this topic is for CHRISTIANS ONLY. Zatax and nimshi please try and respect the topic and your fellow posters. Anyone who wants to question the testimonies can open another thread and do so.

Any further derailment will result in a request for ban. Thanks.
I was going to ask the two 'anatagonists of testimonies' whether it is the fault of those of us who testify to God's goodness that they see nothing worthy of giving glory to God for in their lives. Please, let us be dependent on God and you be dependent on your own power and might.

I Like all these resonses. Its to teach you a lesson, stop asking people of interpretation. Theres no gift of interpretation of dream, It is not every dream that has a meaning. God is a master communicator. If he is God enough to give you a dream, he is God enough to tell you the interpretation if it has any.
Many dreams are just ordinary.

Eccles. 5:3
For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words.
How about Joseph and Daniel? Has your understanding increased on the matter of dream interpretation?

Christianity EtcRe: If Your Spouse Is Spiritually Dead, Can You Re-marry? by seyibrown(f): 5:43pm On Oct 18, 2011
Joagbaje:
a christian is free to come out of a relationship if the partners turns away from christ. But there is a difference between sinning and being a sinner. What I mean is that ,the fact that a man does something wrong doesn't mean he has rejected christ . Until he confess with his mouth that Jesus christ is no lo ger lord . But If it has to do with attitude , he needs restoration and interession.
If you are saying the above and not just quoting a previous poster, please, support it with the Bible! Thank you.

I can give you the phone number of someone who you can share your problems with, and who will pray with you, continue to pray along with you, and give you some counselling, if you email me and include your phone number.

You can also post a prayer request in the 'Can we pray together thread?' at https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=59716.msg8719568#msg8719568

May God perfect all that concerns you. Amen.

Christianity EtcRe: If Your Spouse Is Spiritually Dead, Can You Re-marry? by seyibrown(f): 4:25pm On Oct 18, 2011
Nimshi:
- The bible does not exactly teach that marriage is only 'until death'.

- Jesus showed that marriage could end due to some other condition being meet.

- This other condition could be argued to be a form of 'spiritual death'.

- Based on the above, an interesting argument could be tabled for 'spiritual death' being a scriptural basis for divorce and remarriage. However: note that the other specific case where divorce with the prospect of remarriage appears to be allowed in an extreme case. Modernism - even in the strictest of Christian sects - has meant other forms of 'extreme' reasons have been allowed for divorce (preceded by separation), and for some religions, remarriage even when the offending spouse is alive.

- You mention ' . . . living in sin that makes him spiritually dead'; this is rather ambiguous, the exact nature of the wrong would be important in some Christian religious sects. Separation would be 'easy' for a number of serious wrongs.
Please, support the above - with full explanation - with the Bible. Thank you!
Christianity EtcRe: Testimonies Are Welcome Here From Christians Only. by seyibrown(f): 4:12pm On Oct 18, 2011
I bless the name of the lord for the victory he gave me on Friday. I have a matter before him and have been praying Psalm 86:17 (Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.)

He showed me favour on Friday. He silenced all tongues that arose against me and confounded all those who were plotting evil against me (I am laughing in the spirit as I write this), and I know he will finish this work and allow place for a full-blown testimony that the unbelieving may know that he is indeed God! I hold on to his promise in Exodus 14:14 (The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.)

I declare that this victory is permanent in Jesus' name!

Praise the Lord! Alleluia!
Christianity EtcRe: Can Christians Be Hurt By Witchcraft Or Black Magic? by seyibrown(f): 4:00pm On Oct 18, 2011
Xtians who put on the 'whole armour of God' cannot get hurt by witchcraft/black magic. Xtians who 'fall asleep' or fall into sin can get hurt but God mercies are from everlasting to everlasting, and he protects us from all sorts every day!

I experienced a very brief demonic visitation very early last friday morning that was meant to discourage me from taking hold of a victory set for later that Friday morning. I knew on whose behalf the visit was made on and I knew what exactly it was about.

God protects us from all countless evils everyday. Witchcraft/Black Magic/White Magic exists!
