I am not sure what the reason for this is though I read somewhere that it helped with detecting poisonous fruits and plants (by their colours) while gathering food in the wild. This is a classic dish originating from Cross River. The unique flavours derived from the afang (okazi) leaves in combination with the richness of other added ingredients makes this soup very appealing.

Servings: 4 - 6

Ingredients:

1kg of assorted meats (beef, ponmo, shaki)
4 large snails (optional; washed with lemon or lime)
450g of stockfish (pre-soaked to soften it)
450g dried fish (washed)
225g of periwinkle (prepared by cutting off top cap and tail of shell with the blunt end of knife or small cutlass and washed properly as shown in the picture below)
1/2 cup of ground crayfish
1/2 tsp of ground pepper
1/2 tsp of salt
2 stock cubes (maggi)
1 medium onion bulb (chopped)
290ml of palm oil
450g of Afang leaves (washed, chopped and blended as shown in the pictures below)
1kg of waterleaf ( washed, and chopped)
600ml of water


Preparation:
Remove the snails from their shell and wash with lemon or lime juice to remove slime and set aside, also wash the smoked dry fish with salt and leave soaking in hot water for about 5-8 minutes, then rinse out thoroughly with lots of cold water, and also set aside
In a large bowl wash the assorted meat thoroughly (preferable with running water)
Place a pot on medium heat and transfer the assorted meat to it immediately
Add the chopped onion, pepper, salt, stock cubes and about 100ml of the water and cook for 20 minutes
Add the stock fish, periwinkles and snail. Stir and cook for another 10 minutes
At this point you can add the remaining water, but be sure not to add too much if you want it very thick, also the waterleaf contains lots of water
Add in the afang leaves, waterleaf and crayfish, then stir properly for about 2 minutes
Add the palm oil and allow to simmer for 20 minutes more, then stir
Remove from heat, serve preferably with pounded yam, eba or fufu

After the shocking wizkid/EME breakup , both parties haven’t really said anything concerning the actual cause of the conflict. Well Wizkid , who is also CEO of Star boy Entertainment keeps saying that he is still part of EME.

Months back, when Banky W smiled at cameras in a press parley and said Wizkid was his retirement plan, he definitely did not know a rude shock was just by the corner.

However, one point that has not been established is what actually led to WizKid’s walking away.

The relationship between the two musicians had always been a rosy one until WizKid was offered a contract by Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) and he refused to sign it, insisting it was not a favourable one.



However, when he had to embark on his first trip to London for a well paid show and was denied visa because he could not proof he was an artiste of the record label he quickly rushed back to his boss and it was agreed that he would sign the contract which he initially turned down and as soon as he returned from his trip, a new contract would be drafted. However, months after returning and with several mentioning of the new contract and nothing said or done, the artiste decided to go on with the two-year contract, which he signed.

Though he continued, the young man had already made up his mind that he would not renew his contract. His decision was cemented when his parents became curious and started asking him how much he was really making and he had very little knowledge of the contract between him and his record label.

Hence, when he called off the renewal deal and floated his Star Boy Entertainment, his parents supported him and refused all pleas for an intervention. Hence, things totally fell apart between Banky W and his protégé.

Initially, when the whole drama started, Banky W thought his cash cow would turn around after some threats, but after realising that even pleas were not working and the young man had made up his mind to walk away, he decided to take a more drastic line of action that saw him totally alienate the good-boy-gone-bad from his latest album.

A source revealed that before the whole issue started, Banky W had completed his R&B album on which he featured WizKid in two of his songs. However, he decided to drop the tracks when it became obvious there was no turning back for WizKid. If that is surprising, it will surprise you more that he had to destroy millions of naira worth CD jackets which had already been printed because of the decision to drop WizKid from the album. The source who is a close associate of the EME boss revealed said that was the sacrifice they had to make insisting they could not continue to promote the young man after his actions.

As the whole puzzle gets unraveled, the questions being asked in some quarters is, what implications will these developments have on EME as a record label? Would Banky W be able to carry on with the momentum created by WizKid because unlike when two stars and two struggling artistes make up the label, presently the only artiste who would appeal to anybody is Banky W.

With Niyola and Skales yet to establish themselves musically, the walkout of WizKid might just be the beginning of the end of EME, as it was with the defunct Mohit which even had better entertainers.

Meanwhile, as the probable fall of EME is being speculated, another poser by observers is the likelihood that WizKid would succeed on his own, as speculations are that he might not just be able to manage fame and success like Banky W did for him while at EME. As a new era begins for EME and Star Boy Entertainment, only time will tell who will.

According to Linda Ikeji, Bayelsa big boy and President Jonathan's boy, popularly known as Didi doled out $400k (about N60 Million) to purchase the lastest automobile from the ferreri family, Ferrari F458 Italia. The car came in this past Saturday and he's possibly the only person in Nigeria to own it.

The 458 Italia is powered by a 4.5 L (270 cu in) V8 engine derived from a shared Ferrari/Maserati design, producing 570 PS (419 kW; 562 hp) at 9,000 rpm and 540 N·m (398 lb·ft) at 6,000 rpm with 80% torque available at 3,250 rpm.

The Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Obafaiye Shem, has dismissed the stories making the rounds about his suspension from work saying he is still in- charge of the command.

This is even as the Channels Television has described as wild tale, the rumour that Mr Shem has been suspended and the purported protest by his wife over the upload of the interview by the Channels.

According to the commandant, he has been on casual leave to perform the burial rites of his father Pa Michael Obafaye, who died on February 8, 2013 at the age of 82 and will resume at his duty post next Thursday.

He said; ”I am still the State Commandant of NSCSC and I am determined to work hard to expose the vandals across the State.”

Shem who recently celebrated his 100 days in office said already, he has some pending files on his table which will be treated as soon as he resumes work. Since assumption of office, the Command under his leadership, has uncovered several hideouts of vandals especially at Arepo, Festac town and Epe and has paraded several pipeline vandals including three siblings.

It will be recalled that the social media was awash over the alleged suspension of Mr. Obafaye from office by the Ministry of Interior for postulating the “my oga at the top” mantra during a live interview on Lagos-based Channels Television last Tuesday.

On his wife’s visit to Channels Television, Obafaye said, ”my wife was in the village with me for my father’s burial and there is no way she could have visited the television station to carry out a protest. She is a learned person and somebody of that caliber would not have been involved in such a jinx. I see all these as a distraction which is not enough to hinder me from achieving my goal in Lagos State.”

Meanwhile, in a post in its website Monday, the Channels Television said, “the rumour making the rounds that commandant of the Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corp in Lagos has been demoted or suspended in the aftermath of a now famous phrase is false. The alleged visit by his wife to the headquarters of Channels Television to protest the upload of the interview where he failed to name his organisation’s website has been discredited as another wild tale.”
