Kim Kardashian (Splash News)Well that idea seems to have backfired. On Thursday, Kim Kardashian launched an eBay sale of some of her clothes and accessories to raise funds for the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. Sounds nice enough. The catch? She's keeping 90 percent of the profits from the sale for herself. (Just FYI, her net worth is estimated at $40 million). The 33-year-old reality start turned music video vixen tweeted a link to a letter posted on her personal website touting her fund-raising efforts. "Hi guys, this is a very special auction because a portion of the proceeds of my eBay auction are going to International Medical Corps, a nonprofit organization that provides critical health services on remote islands where families are struggling to access medical care and basic resources like food, clean drinking water and vital medications," she explained. She did not mention that that "portion" was a measly 10 percent. "The proceeds will go directly to the communities they’re serving in the Philippines and will help typhoon survivors get access to medical care and ultimately save lives," she noted before adding, "My prayers and thoughts are with those affected by the typhoon. Check out my eBay auction here and support those who need our help in the Philippines. Xo." The sale features items ranging from super-high-end (like Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana) to more wallet-friendly (from her own Kardashian collection, of course). She also tossed up a few flashy snapshots of herself posing in some of the more memorable styles. But it's not the pictures that have people talking. @KimKardashian do you REALLY need 90% profit from the eBay clothes you sell, giving just 10% to the Philippine typhoon charity? #absurd — Rosie gunn (@RosieGunn1) November 22, 2013 Kim Kardashian is on eBay selling some of her clothes for charity. 10% goes to the charity. Hope that doesn't break you, Kim #generosity — David Rancken (@rancken) November 22, 2013 Kim Kardashian donates just 10% of eBay auction proceeds to charity http:///LfGEBGV1IT - This has made me hate her! Vile! — Maisie Penn (@MaisieRaePenn) November 22, 2013 Kim's move also drew comparisons between her efforts to help the victims and Victoria Beckham's. Posh and her husband dropped off more than 20 boxes of designer clothes and shoes at their local British Red Cross shop to raise money for its recovery efforts in the Philippines. And, for the record, they won't be seeing a dime of that fund-raiser. chukwudi44: Tension in military over promotion, retirement of GeneralsAre you serious? |
€2000 |
You wouldn't expect any less from them (especially the illitrate recruits) I recently returned from Europe where I bought and wore camo shirts and dog tag (obviously not military issue) without anybody asking questions or harassing me. Just this last friday, I went to the bank to carry out a transaction and I noticed most of the customers there were young military officers (small children fah!); immediately I left, 5 of them trailed me outside, stopped me and demanded that I identify myself. Because I didn't know who they were, I asked them to do so first and none of them could; I then asked if there was any issue but they didn't (rather couldn't) respond. Next thing I know, a 6th person just came out of the bank and shouted "Comot am joor!", one of them just cut my dog tag and they all walked away. Meanwhile, it wasn't as if I was wearing any military apparel (I was wearing a white shirt on a blue jean with my work safty boots o) or was I claiming to be a military officer in any way, the reason they did it, I don't know. Anyway, instead of causing a scene, I just walked away, called the branch manager of the bank who stopped all transactions to them and insisted they release the tag to him or else he will not attend to them again until they gave him the tag. Imagine that kind of harassment from mofos, who couldn't express themselves properly, just because they were given khaki and are being paid from tax payers money - part of which I contributed to o - in my own country. |
The Senate ad-hoc Committee on Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P, yesterday, raised alarm that N500 billion realised from the subsidy programme of the Federal Government was missing. According to the committee, the amount was part of the N800 billion said to have been realised between January 2012 and September 2013 from the 25 billion litres of petroleum sold by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, within the period. The Senate Special Committee which was irked by the development, threatened that it may recommend the scrapping of SURE-P, which it noted, had become a drain pipe. It further frowned at the alleged lack of transparency and accountability in the management of the programme, a development, it said, was contrary to the original concept of SURE-P. The Senator Abdul Ningi-led Senate Ad-hoc Committee on SURE-P, decried alleged nonchalant attitude and lack of respect for constituted authority by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke; Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Andrew Yakubu, for snubbing its invitation to appear before it and explain certain issues. The committee equally stated that going by available records, about N300 billion had been released to SURE-P, while only N207 billion was spent without proper accounting for the balance of N93 billion. Chairman of the committee, Senator Ningi, said: “Today, again, we sat here glued to our sits for over one hour, awaiting the arrival of the officials of NNPC or their agents and the Central Bank or their agents. “As we speak, we sent letters of invitation to both agencies, which were duly acknowledged. “I have been a member of the National Assembly right from inception and I have never seen this kind of impunity and disregard for constituted authority,” Ningi said. @Car Doctor: Now I'm confused. Though I've not seen the car physically, I've got pictures and the car is relatively cheap (N330k) I don't really know what to ask the owner if I'm to speak with him. I was thinking of sending a mechanic but I guess I should speak with him first. What am I supposed to ask?

I experienced the 1993 civil unrest. Looking back at the events of that period, I'd describe it as an adrenalin rush thing for me than anything one can imagine it to be. But it is nothing I'd wish my children to expereince. |
So, they mean if I fly with them now and survive it, I still have the opportunity to fly and try my luck at crashing in the month of October? ![]() Abeg, make dem tell me wetin e go cost for me not to fly instead of getting a free ticket and I will gladly pay. ![]() |
You couldn't have put it any better. The moment we stop seeing each other as part of an ethnic denomination and see ourselves as Nigerians, only then can we solve the heaviest of our burdens as a country. Criticize whoever is not doing well by the capacity of his office and not on the backdrop of his ethnicity. Demand for good governance instead of playing the blame game. Take responsibility as a country and not claim innocence because the person seen as causing the trouble is not from "your part of the country"... The list can go on forever! My people, no matter how much we hate this country, no matter how much we try to see who is to blame for our woes, if we don't look beyond the problems and start seeking solutions to the problems, we will never move ahead. I know a lot of people will come to say there is nothing to celebrate, but none of you will believe that by the virtue our (me and my colleague's) presence in our Romania office, there was a celebration of our 53rd Independence day here in Romania! Yet, back home some (instead of praying and working towards the good of the country) will choose to curse and insult fellow country men. Our hate for each other would drive us down the path of disintegration if we don't nip the situation in the bud. May we all live to experience a blissful Nigeria. May God help us all. |
And you are still selling at N4,500? |
I don't know if the FG stopped working or not because of the tiff between Amachi and Jonathan, but the truth of the matter is that the airport has been like this since last year and it is very appalling. An airport that operates international flights which upgrade started about three years ago is still at that level. Honestly, I don't see it as an airport anymore, it is more of an airstrip to me than an airport and I consider it a mere transit stop. It was because of the sorry state of that airport that I chose to travel through Lagos to France rather than punish myself. Traveling though PHC international is hellish and arriving to there is even worse! |
pro01: A massive N30b ($200m) 'investment' created a paltry 650 jobs?My dear, they were overbooked even before they opened. I have a friend working there that earns more than I do as a staff of a multinational oil servicing company. I'd rather I stay there than hole up in Sheraton any day. |
Please, where are you located? |
