afroniger:Oga a graduate isn't trained to be a cleaner... Be it naija or USA.... It's called underemployment and it's a sign of slow growth and lack of economic opportunity.... Why should someone waste 4 years of his life if he knew the certificate is only worthy to secure a cleaner job.... Now u mentioned dignity in labour.... That's statement doesn't exist in nigeria.... It's only valid when the wage in such labour is enough to take u home and meet your needs.... In developed countries where minimum wage ensures a sufficient basic pay, then u can talk of dignity in labour.... What's dignity in a graduate earning 21,000 a month... Nonsense.... |
What car is that 2013... |
lexyking:So u saying Yoruba should remain in this fruitless arrangement just because of a port.... Are u ok at all..... |
Its obvious Buhari isn't in charge anymore (if he was ever in charge) and will only get worse in his 2nd tenure.... His government has been hijacked by the likes of funtua, kyari, Mamman duara et al.... His failing health isn't helping matters and it's almost like his dementia will progress in the following years.... By 2023, Buhari may not even be aware he's the president of Nigeria.... Now my southwest kinsmen knows buhari has failed woefully and doesn't deserve a return to Aso rock, but they holding on to him because they feel he's their only real chance of taking over the seat of power in 2023...... The question is what happens if buhari can no longer remember making such agreement and the cabals prefer power to shift elsewhere.... Besides, what happens to the collective southern agreement of restructuring that we've always championed..... why is nobody talking about it...... Nowadays, it even seems like Yoruba has become the official mouthpiece of unitary system of govt ![]() Its unfortunate Yorubas have allowed the likes of Tinubu and his APC cohort to derail us from our goal of autonomous regional governance and development we've always wanted..... |
Lagos - where rich and poor live side by side Nigeria is Africa's largest economy and the continent's biggest oil producer. But it is a country where more than half the population lives in poverty, and 60% of the urban population cannot afford the cheapest house. There are also some very rich Nigerians indeed and the gap between rich and poor is all too clear to see in the country's largest cities. Competing claims The government argues that it has combated poverty and blames past governments for mismanaging the oil industry and the economy. "It is not that poverty has reduced considerably, no. I am saying that what has happened now is that we are dealing with the issue of poverty," said vice-president Prof Yemi Osinbajo. Mr Buhari's principal opponent in the election, Atiku Abubakar, says Nigeria's economy has never been in a worse state than it is now. "The most important question in this election is: are you better off than you were four years ago, are you richer or poorer?" The Nigerian economy has only recently shown signs of recovery after a period of recession that ended in 2017. The unemployment rate provided by the government's National Bureau of Statistics is more than 20%. Here's another key statistic - about 60% of the population lives in absolute poverty - measured by the number who can afford only the bare essentials of shelter, food and clothing. Experts see little sign that the situation for the poorest has improved significantly. "With increase in population and continuing lack of jobs, it is evident that the gulf between the haves and the have nots will continue to widen in the future," said Dr Bongo Adi, an economist at the Lagos Business School. There's certainly a widespread perception that inequality is getting worse. "Nigeria has a long history of mismanagement, corruption and disregard for due process" that has contributed to the high number of people living in poverty, says Abdulazeez Musa, Oxfam's Nigeria-based analyst. As for the gap between rich and poor, Nigerian economist Bismarck Rewane estimates that only 5% of the population controls roughly about 40% of Nigeria's wealth. Poverty-reduction policies do exist, he says, but they are not backed up by the political will or the good governance to implement them. "Vested interest is far in excess of national interest," he says. Poverty rates are higher in northern states than they are in parts of the south. Sokoto State in the far north-west of the country has the highest level of poverty at 81 % while the figure for the south-western state of Lagos is 34%. Housing as a measure of poverty About half of Nigeria's population lives in cities, but the divide between the poor and the rich has created a paradox - many newly-built houses in the wealthier areas of Lagos are empty, while overcrowding is a major issue in many poorer areas. The UN estimates that 69% of urban residents in the country live in slum conditions, with the housing shortfall of close to 18 million units. Building or buying a house is expensive. To construct a three-bedroom house costs $50,000 (£38,500) compared with $36,000 in South Africa and $26,000 in India, according to the World Bank. The Centre for Affordable Housing Finance in Africa says a standard three bedroom, middle-income apartment in urban locations in Nigeria currently costs $5,000 a year to rent or $100,000 to buy. Only about 40% of urban households can afford the cheapest newly-built house ($16,351). Poverty or inequality? Although there is a general recognition that Nigeria is highly unequal, it is hard to quantify inequality because of the lack of up-to-date data, says economist Dr Zuhumnan Dapel. But there is a wider point about the study of inequality, he says. Those in developing economies care less about income inequality than they do about living in poverty. "Whether their people are living below the poverty line., the main aim is getting people out of poverty," he says. And this is where Nigeria faces its greatest challenge. According to the World Bank, Nigeria is now the country with the most poor people in the world, overtaking India. The Bank is is cautious over the reliability of the data, but it does suggest the immense scale of the problem the country is facing - whoever wins the forthcoming elections

Basher8583:The one wey shock me was when a very young Arab descent girl begging me for money in Dalston area, quite pretty too, with hijab.... I was like, does this girl really understand the risk she's getting into by begging on the street... Any guy can take advantage of her... In this era of grooming in most uk cities.... Maybe that's what she even want, I don't know.... I simply ignored her and continued my waka..... |
dadark:Was nigeria ever a white man's graveyard.... They willingly gave u guys independent because they see nigeria as surplus to requirements... Thank your stars crude oil was discovered in huge commercial quantity after the british left..... If not, una case go pass wetin them do blacks for South Africa with apartheid.... Yeye dey smell.... |
Lightangel65:So what happened to girl.... Didn't they discuss marriage rites b4 proceeding to see her parents... |

Whatever is up there will still not eradicate poverty from the bride's family... So why the stress in the first place..... Seriously it's time we expunge primitive culture out of the black race.... |

A doctor has been struck off after starting an affair with a patient the day after telling him he had cancer. Theepa Sundaralingam even had sex in a hospital bed with her patient after their relationship became more serious. Their affair started when they swapped telephone numbers and followed each other on Instagram. Those messages quickly became more graphic leading to a full-fledged affair. After the authorities became aware of the relationship, the 37-year-old was hauled before a disciplinary hearing in Toronto, Canada. The panel ruled that Ms Sundaralingam should be struck off. The incident took place in Toronto, Canada. The unnamed male patient said he felt abused by the doctor. Sundaralingam was, according to her patient, "the person who both managed my health and provided me with emotional support during cancer treatment. "She was also the same person who abandoned me at my most vulnerable point," he said in a victim impact statement read aloud by a lawyer. The panel heard that seven months into the relationship, Sundaralingam told the man she'd fallen in love with a colleague and broke off the affair. Shortly afterward, she refused to see him or treat him. "She told me she's calling it quit, just like that" the patient said. The affair took place in early 2015 and started again in 2016. After a short deliberation, Sundaralingam was told she was losing her licence and ordered to put up a security of $16,000 for any therapy her former patient might need. She was also ordered to pay $6,000 — the cost of Wednesday's proceedings. Asked as she was leaving the hearing if she had anything to say about the decision, Sundaralingam's lawyer, Jenny Stephenson, replied: "No comment."

Wetin poverty dey cause for this country...... |
wolexy14:if they impose travel ban on buhari.... where will he treat his ear infection.... |
Its like these female celebrities get married mainly to have a wedding, ward off societal pressures and possibly have babies..... Once these objectives are achieved, they bail out..... |
NASTYNASOSO:Power is might... Nigeria is in no position to issue statement to USA or great Britain... they will chew naija and spit it out...nothing will happen..... Buhari also benefited from their interference in the past, so he should know better..... besides buhari who cant treat headache without going to uk to buy Panadol shouldn't complain...... Nigeria had also bullied and intervened in smaller nation in the past..... Sao Tome, Togo and gambia..... |
rusher14:Is it me u telling about demise of oil... Tell that to the lifeless president n his goons who thinks they have a say in international politics... E go soon clear for una eyes.... Ask GEJ.... yeye dey smell.... |
rusher14:I pity u.... By the time they wreck our financial system.... 1 dollar go be a 1000 naira.... Oh and I forget our oil.... E go soon be buy one tank of crude oil get 2 tank free.... Just pray trump no get una time... |
I weep for my Yoruba brethren..... I don't know if this is as a result of hunger or 2023 hope of a Yoruba president.... Either way we no longer the sophisticated tribe we claim to be.... |
yanabasee:So where did he get the child to perform the stunt.... |
Where's sowore when u need him.... |
happney65:how do u think south Africa was able to bridge the wealth inequality between the whites and the neglected blacks.... Go to google image and see the new images of soweto ANC embarked on mass housing programs for his black population thereby reducing ghetto quarters.... Now they talking of land redistribution to address age long social injustice... If that's not socialism, then what is it.... Europe is built in socialism and its doing fine.... America that's built on pure capitalism is gradually crumbling..... wealth inequality is becoming a major issue while the middle class is thinning out.... |
tintingz:Did u read the wikipedia u posted at all.... It states there had been only one reported case in the last 100 years and could possibly be a rumour since the only available evidence is hear-say... Now in the last couple of years, we've had more than 5 verifiable cases in Kenya.... I've also witnessed one in my home town in nigeria.... So, why is it common in Kenya and how come the victims are mostly adulterers..... That's the question your empirical mind should be asking n not just forming one deluded sophistication.... |
Ademat7:Ignore that guy.... Everything to him is APC v PDP.... Is it not aregbesola's rule of 8 years that burdened the poor state with generational debt...... I've not really been to osun but I won't be surprised if hunger reign supreme just like most other nigerian hinterland states..... As per Tinubu.... I've always said it that Tinubu's ultimate goal is to introduce almajiri system of government into Yoruba land.... Where we have the ignorant n hungry masses dependent on few rich political elites for daily living n sustenance.... |
Newboss:What do u mean by strictly regulated.... Besides I think that's the concept behind eko Atlantic city.... We really need smart cities in nigeria with emphasis on facilities and infrastructure, not just bland, uninspiring so called mansions..... |
Next 10 year challenge...
|
topacs:Canada PR goes beyond salaries.... I think this has been thrashed in the previous thread... However u can build a safety net..... Process the application n if successful, send ur families over while u keep ur job in naija and visit until u deem it fit to move..... The cons of families living apart due to PR was also discussed on the previous thread.... Whatever the case, this is a big opportunity for ur family especially the future of your kids and I'll advise u to consider this application seriously.... U can't compare the opportunity in the west to nigeria in all ramifications..... If Anthony Joshua had grown up in Nigeria, he will most likely end up an agbero tout or political thug for likes of bola tinubu.... |

U've not said anything new.... anybody earning 658k per month in nigeria will afford the comfort nigeria has to offer. For those who see material wealth as the goal, that should be ok.... but not for some, not everybody suffers from poverty mentality which has completely destroyed the psyche of an average nigerian irrespective of socioeconomic background...... I was earning 500k per month in nigeria when I resigned my job and came to the west for training... I wasn't satisfied with the my career prospect and felt the only gain was my huge monthly salary.... I concluded there was more to my career than what Nigeria has to offer and decided to relocate and I have no regret whatsoever...... If I have any regret at all, it was I didn't motivate myself early enough to leave........ That would have afforded me the opportunity to engage in training for a longer period than what I could possibly do now..... Nobody is painting a rossy picture of the west... It is what it is- developed.... and until Nigeria catch up in the area of research and development, I don't see any reversal of the present migration trend..... I guess you come from a privilege background because I don't understand why u should be complaining about taking metro to class or working per-time.... Politicians in Europe ride bicycle to work while both obama's daughters work per-time right from age 16....so whats the big deal..... You've told us the luxuries and pecks associated with your work but u yet to tell us exactly what u do and whether your foreign degrees gave u an edge in securing the job.... Anyway, thank God for your privilege background, a lot of Nigerian youths with foreign degrees are roaming naija street without a job, so don't blame their contemporaries who desire to secure their future via foreign marriage.... Rather blame the system that made Nigeria a mess for everyone except a privilege few..... |
Isoduwa:That's because there's been a precedence- apartheid..... |
Joshua... compare your robust fresh body to the skinny under fed ikorodu boyz.... Then u will understand the meaning of street hustle... Those ikorodu boiz owes u or ur dad nothing.... Ur dad n his fellow politicians failed them.... |
abnot:Quality of life matters, u can't say it should be ignored just because of money.... In case of dire emergency in naija, that's when u will realise money can't buy life.... As u said u need good wages to live a life of comfort in naija..... This include good schools, good hospitals, good residential apartments, good cars, foreign travels.... Hospital cleaners in uk travel to Barbados n Malta for holidays, they have their own home, their own cars, ownership of IPhone is not class but choice, if their kids work hard in school they can go to oxford or cambridge, n they don't have to worry about basic needs...... A child not academically gifted can exploit other opportunities according to his talent n make something out of his life..... If Anthony Joshua had grown up in Nigeria, he would have ended up an agbero...... That to me is a definition of a good quality of life n a functioning society.... 99.99% of Nigerians will never earn 658k in a month, neither will they be opportune to embezzle public funds..... So a good life will forever be a mirage to them..... Of course, some Nigerians in uk wouldn't mind coming back home if they can secure a 400k per month job.... But how many of such jobs are open for starters or at entry level..... Its becoming obvious most Nigerians dont really care about this country..... So long as they can secure their dream job, the rest can go n ****...... No wonder they support the likes buhari n atiku.... |
