BuhariIsBURIED:Is it that difficult.... But the recruit anually.... Don't they.... |
Tianamen1:As in, I knew Nigerian educational system churn out lazy and half-baked graduates... but I never knew its this bad.... Here on nairaland, u will see so called graduates confidently wallowing in ignorance, yarning dust..... They don't argue based on facts or logic but on sentiments or what they think should be the answer.... google is free but too lazy to browse and read..... |
Rossikk:Yes, Dubai don't have any significant oil.... Dubai oil output is around 50000 to 70000 barrels per day which is comparable to ondo state oil output.... The emirate's share in the UAE's total gas revenues is about 2%....... Dubai's oil reserves have diminished significantly and are expected to be exhausted in 20 years....... UAE's oil wealth lies in abu dhabi and other emirati.... and unlike Nigeria, they practice confederation system of government.... u keep what u earn and contribute to a national purse to fund joint institution.... whatever people may say... kudos to the leaders for an ambitious effort in the transformation of Dubai.... Dubai from sky, depicts a mega-amusement park |
Globalisation didn't turn out well for western nations..... Only their corporate elites benefited.... While the middle class were left strangulated... I guess the Asians weren't as stupid as they thought... White man intention was to make Asia a sweat shop factory.... Avoid the pollution associated with manufacturing.... But China had smarter cards in her sleeve.... Well, the horse has escaped from the barn and it's useless guarding an empty ban now.... Money is moving east and it's going to be very hard to stop it.... Donald trump can only delay the inevitable... The unipolar world is over and 21st is going to be a multipolar world.... And China may be next superpower.... West will still be relevant anyway.... Socio culturally and entertaiment, the world will still look to west for leadership.... Then in science and education- they still have a big role to play..... But that nonsense talk of white man supremacy is gone forever.... The annoying thing is africa just fail to catch up with this revolution and once again will be left behind.... |

Rossikk:Dubai don't have oil.... the guy is right despite little natural resources, the leader of Dubai virtually turned a mere desert to a global tourist attraction.... attracting 15 million people and billions of dollars in revenue.... |
RTSC:First class has increased very much in nigerian universities in recent decades.... Most federal universities graduate an average of 100 first class graduates per set.... Which to me is a good development, so long they merit it... I think it's sadistic and retrogressive thinking to rate a school based on how few 1st class it churns out.... It's high time we do away with such mindset.... It kills passion, energy and drive amongst our youth..... Private universities are leading the way and it's only time other federal university get sense.... On your earlier post.... I seriously doubt any nigerian university can match even an average uk university in any standard especially in area of research, innovation and development.... I did some molecular biology training in Nottingham, trust me when I tell u nigerian universities are yet to start.... I met a guy who worked at the Nottingham research centre/Manchester university..... it's obvious western nations are determined to get rid of fuel driven vehicle by 2030..... I think our univeristies should just focus on technology and social science as area of strength for now.... while we send our scholars abroad for pure science, applied science and engineering programs.... When they return, these scholars will begin a new curriculum and academic career for these fields..... because attempting catch up is simply futlie.... Too late for that..... |
lilwetdick:I now realised u are very ignorant of western nations wage structure relativity...... U know nothing about minimum wage n salary structure in western countries.... U have no idea the standard of living of cleaners or thrash collectors abroad.... Yet u came here and started acting like Mr know all.... Next time b4 u engage in any discussion, read very well b4 u comment.... Google is free.... Otherwise ask questioned n be schooled.... Rather than passing false information up n down, yet contending ignorantly.... Very annoying trait of so called educated Nigerians..... |
When is Jesus coming back sef.... |
lilwetdick:My guy, she's gone to Greece with her family.. Uk people no dey joke with greece n spain.... If u see any british people who hasn't been to any of these countries, something must be wrong somewhere.... What u should be asking is how much does it cost to go on these vacations.... With 250 pounds, u can visit most european cities for weekend.... Students who work per time save n go on vacation.... Wetin come do full time worker.... My cousin who works 7.50 pounds per hour as HCA just came back from a 3 days trip in Portugal..... I'm done talking about my cleaner, but people who earn minimum wage go on vacation if they want to..... Look here, my aim is to disabuse your mind that thrash collectors live a wretched life.... No they don't, they should be able to afford basic necessities n some comfort if they manage their lives well.... They may not afford a 2017 bmw X7 or fly first class, but this is applicable to most middle class too.... Now this unlike what obtains in naija, where until u break into upper class, basic necessities aren't guaranteed n comfort of life is an illusion.... |
lilwetdick:I'm talking of a trash collector with possible high school certificate, maybe some added degree from some community college.... And am talking of building a career in the waste collection system not leaving for another job.... Yes, they live ok, own houses and cars because I see them everyday in my GP.... And yes, they retire on same job with good retirement benefit.... I once told a taxi driver how much I earn in a month based on my profession and was asking me if it's a weekly or forthnight.... I understand where u coming from..... In naija, artisans are poorly paid and those jobs are considered dregs of the society..... Here, its different.... Carpenters, builders, welders, electrician, mechanics, truck drivers are good career choice for non professionalsin most western countries.... My GP is in a rural community, so they are mostly my clients.... I don't pay my cleaner millions, but whatever she earns is enough for her to take a vacation with her family.... Here, vacation isn't a luxury but a must if u working.... It's a different world here bro..... |
lilwetdick:Say what u know ok.... The average salary of a waste collector in UK is 25000 pounds, same as starting salary of a nurse.... In usa, it's around 35000 dollars, same as most non professional jobs.... Look here, the salary structure in western countries is different from Nigeria.... First, whatever u do, the salary package should be enough to last u the next pay check... That's why there's minimum wage..... 2. There must be provision for career progression in the job based on experience n certification..... This allows u build a career and move up the cadre, unlike in Nigeria where u are stuck as a trash collector for life..... U will be surprise that trash collector in that picture has his own house, buys a latest average car and goes on foreign holiday with his girlfriend..... So long u hardworking, u will be fine.... I'm not talking what I've heard but what I've seen and experienced with my own eyes..... The lady who cleans my house isn't coming this weekend because she's gone on Easter holiday with her family.... It's 2 different world entirely that are irreconcilable..... |
erifeoluwasimi:I don't understand.... Why can't the locals mine the land themselves.... |
I thought they perform knee replacement surgery in nigeria.... |

codemaniacs:Middle class in the naija socioeconomic context... The one buhari wants to wipe out.... He got that connection by virtue of his skills.... Nothing wrong in that.... It's called meritocracy... Academic qualification counts for nothing in silicon valley... It's either u know your stuff or u out.... |
codemaniacs:I'm sure we didn't read the same article.... His desire was to study medicine, he ended up studying medical physiology...... He returned from NYSC and had nothing to do, no job....... His laptop developed fault and couldn't afford to buy a new one..... His self training got disrupted by epileptic power supply.... His first job was a sales rep.... Does that look like a guy with a privilege background or comes from a family with connections.... He didn't even study engineering or computer science in naija but motivated himself to code.... Do u think it's easy.... How many nigerian computer science or engineering students knows how to code.... Ask them, they will tell u it's HARD.... There are loads of IT training schools in naija.... And they not that expensive.... Andela even pay its students some form of stipends or so.... And when it comes to IT, nobody employs u because of certifications.... It's your stuff that count.... How good are u with product development.... Finally, foreign study is no longer a privilege of the upper class.... Quite a lot of middle class family send their kids abroad.... Besides if u can sit and crack GRE or GMAT, u are most likely to be offered scholarship.... Moreso, the guy said he worked for a while, when in naija b4 leaving, it's likely he saved up for his studies.... Even abroad, he didn't study a core engineering or computer science course.... But developed himself to become a software engineer.... And yes, he reported to the college's CIO because he built software solutions for the schools... His skills made him outstanding and gave him the connections he needed in life..... What that guy had going for him was KNOWLEDGE and PASSION.... He proved that knowledge is power.... He was able to use the knowledge he harnessed over time to develop himself and to create an opportunity to showcase his skills..... That's the only advantage he has over people like u..... Not any family connections or privilege background... Don't be a kill joy or cynic.... Appreciate good things when u see one... Working with Twitter in silicon valley no be moin moin..... |
Shes not looking for husband.... She's looking for retweet.... |
Esseite:There are very few blacks working in silicon valley.... His story is highly inspirational especially when u consider his background... Non engineering for that matter.... |

Tunagee:I'm married.... So look for someone else to yarn dust with.... |
Africans has a long way to go sha.... See what this one is discussing, an educated mind for that matter.... African youths will not talk of eradicating hunger or poverty in the continent.... They won't talk of creating wealth and adding value... African young doctors won't talk of making STEM cell transplant easily accessible to millions of sickle cell patients on the continent.... It's all about getting married and having kids.... That's all they care about despite the investment in education.... Lord lugard was right after all- the African mind cares all about sex and procreation..... |
henryhemon:Una don start again.. Same lie we repeat every year ... How far with kelechi... |
DamolaIbrahim:No we won't.... Even when obasanjo was president, the restructuring noise was loudest in southwest.... Same way I don't expect secession noise to cease amongst IPOB n pro biafrans, even if an ibo man becomes president in 2023.... We've crossed that bridge, no point going back.... It doesn't matter who killed the snake.... So long the snake is dead, we all happy.... That's what matters now..... |
CodeTemplar:It's like u giving excuse for Mediocrity..... I'm not sure ur write up apply to engineering students abroad.... There is something called application of knowledge and this is the key to innovation and research........ The above is where nigerian universities are failing.... Medical schools don't just teach theory but lay extreme emphasis on knowledge application.... If a student doctor fails the clinical exam, he's repeating the whole exam, irrespective of his score in theory even if it's 100%.... That's why nigerian doctors can function n adapt easily when they practice abroad.... Why can't we apply same principle to engineering course.... In fact m, all othet programs in our university.... I remember, I once asked a 500L final year agriculture economics student what she knows about commodity trading.... She had no idea, told me that will be their last topic in the semester!!!! She didn't even know the function of the commodity market..... I met a 400L microbiology student who had never looked inside a microscope..... Abstract learning is killing us..... And if we talk am now, some will say Nigerians are smart, therefore they don't need practical.... |
DamolaIbrahim:Post Buhari, don't u guys want Biafra anymore..... Or all the noise from the east is all about occupying Aso rock as presidency.... So what happens to IPOB members, will they also receive same treatment if they continue their agitation.... Besides, I remember Biafra agitation gained momentum after your favourite son GEJ lost out of power..... I don't think there's anything wrong if southwest agitation follow the same pattern..... It will only depict everything wrong with our current political system- once u lose out at the centre, u feel disenfranchised.... And this will quickly bring about the disintegration of the unitary system we all detest..... Think outside the box, don't let hatred of a particular ethnic group cloud your sense of pragmatic judgement..... Forget about Presidency for once, u guys can only occupy it for max 8 years, what happens after that..... We both have a common enemy- the retrogressive unitary system which is killing Nigeria.... |
luvmijeje:I don't know if u trying to be funny or what.... The laws that establish the state assemblies and state executives are clearly spelt in the Nigerian constitution.... The function of these state assemblies and the state executives are clearly spelt out in the Nigerian constitution.... The above institutions are not governed by any imaginary state constitutions..... Any law, act or bill passed by state assemblies that is beyond the stipulated power vested upon them by the Nigerian constitution is as good as lame duck... That is why Lagos state till date has officially 20 local governments, irrespective of what Tinubu or Lagos state assemblies has written down as official gazette in Alausa.... If u have a copy of any state constitution u've been mentioning, then paste it here.... Lets see how much power state assemblies has got but lies redundant.... |
luvmijeje:There's no state constitution.... It's the same nonsense nigerian constitution that guides the governors.... Of course that constitution gives too much power to the elites n the centre.... There's nothing you and I can do.... State assemblies cannot move a motion to determine how their states can be governed... If it's not in the constitution, it's useless.... That's why extra local government created by states governor isn't recognised anywhere.... |
ceemac:Its certain u are oblivious of the irreparable damage our abstract learning method has done to the nigerian graduate and the society at large.... For u to be comparing rote learning with conceptual learning... 8yr old Tanitoluwa adewunmi will definitely disagree with u, even though he's had a taste of both divide..... If u don't know him, pls Google..... And pls, an average nigerian isn't smart.....he's just dubious, cunning, detest paying attention to detail, and always find ways to circumvent process..... If an average nigerian is actually smart, that country wouldn't be in that deplorable condition.... And possibly, this thread may not have existed at all.... |
Across Western Europe and North America, the middle class is shrinking, according to a new report by the OECD. With each new generation, a smaller share of the population find themselves earning middle incomes. When the Baby Boomers, who were born between 1943 and 1964, were in their twenties, some 68% were in middle-income households. Only 60% of Millennials, who were born between 1983 and 2002, could say the same at a similar time in their lives. The OECD defines the middle class as people earning between 75% and 200% of the national median annual income. Its data is an average of results from Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United States. The “economic influence” of the middle class has also dropped sharply over time, said the OECD report, which was published on April 10. Across the OECD, middle incomes have increased by just 0.3% per year, on average, over the past decade. By comparison, in the decade before the financial crisis, middle incomes grew by 1.6% per year, and by 1% the decade before that. Housing costs are squeezing the middle class the hardest; this now consumes a third of disposable income for middle-class households, up from a quarter in the 1990s. Housing and higher education expenses have been rising faster than middle incomes, the OECD said. The gradual hollowing out of the middle class is a complicated story. For example, in the US, the Pew Research Center found that America’s shrinking middle class is the result of some people slipping into lower income classes, but an even larger share of the population rising into the upper classes. However, these figures disguise intergenerational inequality. Research led by Harvard’s Raj Chetty has shown that social mobility is declining, as fewer children earn more than their parents. Indeed, for each new generation in the OECD’s aggregate average, the middle class is getting smaller, the upper class is stable, and the lower class is expanding. Still, there are differences between countries. The OECD data show that the US middle class has shrunk as a result of both the lower and upper classes expanding, although the latter has grown by almost twice as much. In Spain, the decline of the middle class is entirely due to people falling into the lower class. In the UK, the lower class has gotten smaller, while the upper class has grown, but within the middle class, the lower-middle has grown while the mid-middle and upper-middle are in decline. The shrinking of the middle class is a cause for concern, the OECD says, calling for policy responses to support this group. The OECD warns that traditional middle-class jobs are threatened by automation, and it now takes more skills and more earners for a household to make it into the middle class. “The middle class used to be an aspiration. For many generations it meant the assurance of living in a comfortable house and affording a rewarding lifestyle,” the OECD said. “However, there are now signs that this bedrock of our democracies and economic growth is not as stable as in the past". |
RichBoy247:We can always profer solutions.... We can create a small unit of federal police that can override politically motivated decisions at the state level.... Besides the state police can be made completely independent of the governors.. . The source of funding and appointment of police chiefs can be made without the governors' input. |
DeejaywonDJ1:All natural resources anywhere in the country belongs to FG.... Be it carbon or solid minerals.... FG receives all corporate tax which is the bulk of tax paid by companies.... Even VAT goes to FG.... Investment policies are responsibility of ministry of trade n investment .... Fiscal n monetary policies are sole responsibilities of ministry of finance n cbn respectively.... Yes nigerian governors are useless n lazy.... But the unitary system we operate is hugely responsibility..... Who will want to work, when free money is always flowing from Abuja..... Water will always flow the way of least resistance, it's the natural law of convenience..... Even those who wants to work can easily get frustrated by FG policies.... Look at tinapa, a product of cross river govt. The Nigerian customs killed that project..... Lagos IPP was made redundant by FG policy on power..... Go back n read that article with an unbiased mind and u will understand the author's message better.... Unitary system is killing Nigeria..... And the biggest victim is south west not even south south.... Majority of Yoruba are just too blind, naive or ignorant to see it.... Let's stop pretending all is well..... |
