I don't know why you people are being so disingenious. NNPC itself said it will continue exploration in the region if security conditions improve. If oil is found elsewhere that is more revenue available for the country to spend on development, more employment and opportunities for growth. What is silly is pretending this isn't about some childish sense of entitlement some might feel in this belief that oil belongs to them. Perhaps there is fear that this "our oyel" leverage will be lost. Let us maturely seek development of Nigeria as a whole and stop being so myopic in our thinking. Other countries are advancing and diversifying their economy and investing in infrastructure, you are still fighting backward wars of false one-up-manships with a mentality that belongs in the 18th century. Wake up before the world leaves you behind. . . |
We all know it was the weather that caused Jonathan to lose. It was too hot that day, people were not thinking well. omenka:I disagree. This does not go far enough. PDP telling themselves the truth will be when they accept that they FAILED NIgerians for 16 years and apologise. |
Too bad poster didn't spend this ammount of energy advising his mentor when there was still time to make a difference, perhaps Jonathan wouldn't have been so terrible. But instead we are using this energy to hound a man that has not even started his job yet. How very PDP-like, no sense of priority at all. Complaining about somebody smoking in your neighbour's compound when your own house is on fire. |
omenka:Spoke my mind! An utterly useless government. Cabal cabal cabal. What were they put in power for? This is useless noise making that achieves nothing when in reality Nigerians are only interested in results. But as always, in keeping with the history of this government, the noise making is an attempt to shift blame, draw sympathy, and absolve themselves of all responsibility to tackling the problems they were given the highest authority in the land to tackle. Thankfully, 25 days till may 29. |
Balyz:I agree with this to a degree. Government should kickstart refineries yes, but I don't think it should be a matter of waiting till Nigeria is completely self sufficient before subsidy is removed. Nigeria might never be free from the need to import petrol, but let the internal option be there at least then market forces can drive down price. Sounds logical. |
Abolish fuel subsidy, free up the market, and you will not have fuel scarcity again. You will also remove the corruption in the subsidy system. This is one proposal of Jonathan I fully supported and wish he had stayed on with. The main problem was the trust deficit Nigerians have with government and Jonathan only went on to prove that they were right. Where was all the stuff the money saved from a reduction in subsidy the government promised. If we have a man who can inspire trust and is able to articulate the need for this removal then we might have a different result. We have oil cartels, we have generator cartels . . . . we need to start breaking up these special interest groups holding the country backwards. The government needs the support of the people on this. |
They are citizens just like you, giving them opportunities to serve the country on a national level should not be seen as going out of your way to give them special priviledges or something you do out of immense consideration or generousity of spirit. Stop being such a male chauvinist. Dora Akunyili cleaned up NAFDAC after men tried and failed. Even the controversial Iweala has been the best finance minister Nigeria has had since return to democracy. As long as they are qualified and capable of doing the job the real question should be integrity and ability. |
When would one of them just gather the balls and tell Jonathan he lost because he was incompetent, then apologise to the Nigerian people for 16 years of failed leadership? I won't hold my breath though, it is PDP after all. They can keep lying to themselves. Unfortunately people are yet to truly understand that bad leadership costs lives, that is why the people keep tolerating it. |
Sorry but why is this news worthy? Didn't the last 16 years teach us that PDP IS corruption? Left to me PDP as a party would be thrown in the dustbin of history and not even be a viable opposition, they are everything we want to move away from: corruption, thuggery, underperformance, incompetence, greed, lies, division, etc. Have we not had enough of that already? There are other parties to explore abeg, nothing short of a fundamentally reformed PDP should ever be considered in the future, and if they still don't know why they lost I would not hold my breath for any reform amnytime soon. |
major466:Underage voting was wrong and should be addressed as well. My question to you is why you assume that the underage voters were voting for APC and not PDP? I am not you and you are not me. I don't believe one wrong justifies another wrong. That Obasanjo did not run free and fair elections does not mean we should reduce our standards or demands for free and fair elections. That there was underage voting in the north, does not mean we should tolerate the industrial scale vote rigging and violence and intimidation that was unleashed in the south south. |
babyfaceafrica:PDP is not a viable opposition. There is Labour as well. And by the way, APC was just formed about a year or so ago, so no the criteria for viable opposition doesn't have to be the next biggest party. It can be based on parties with integrity and a clear philosophy. Oshiomole cam from Labour. Mimiko is in Labour. |
BlackTechnology:So what alternative are you suggesting he towed? Are you really asking us to thank a sitting and highly unpopular president for not rigging himself into power, is that what you are really saying? Listen to yourself, do you know how backwards you sound? Keep calling OBJs name, soon you will use Hitler to justify why Jonathan is the greatest president that ever lived in the history of the world. P.S. PDP TRIED to rig but they still lost. So save us that nonsense please. |
imas:And this simply shows how messed up and abused Nigeria is. A man tried to rig election but still lost regardless, and accepted that he lost. All of a sudden he is a hero and deserves Nobel Peace prize. You people have mental issues. When they start calling Nigerians backwards you will be the first one to come to do obligatory defence work. |
babyfaceafrica:And that opposition does NOT have to be PDP. What is wrong with you people? This is the reason why Nigeria has failed to progress. If APC end up failing the people you look for a better alternative, you do not have to return to your vomit. There are other parties out there. |
jcmaiah:You don't know what they have been through. . . |
You went to a man's funeral with is wife and kids there, and still somehow, managed to make it about yourself. What a narcissist, so glad he will be out soon. This is the same exact way he handled the affairs of the country, always looking for who to blame and making himself out to be a victim, when he was hired by the people to do a job but chose to focus on special interests instead. |
Lucky Igbenidion's brother just so we are clear. And unfortunately for them in 29 days they won't have some corruption encouraging president to go and get amnesty from. It seems some semblance of order is beginning to fall into place with just the announcement of a PDP loss. It seems people just have a sense that it is no longer going to be business as usual in 29 days. I hope they made him cough up the money though, we need to start asking for refunds! |
Come back with empty stomachs because we won't be running a chop-I-chop, money sharing corrupt government anymore? This man talks from his behind, he is not even clever enough to know when he is indicting himself and his party with his statements. |
This is why PDP being the main opposition just won't do, they need to be thrown into the dust bin of Nigeria's history. It just doesn't compute with them that people have not been happy with their performance over the past 16 years and were willing to replace them. If you cannot recognise your failure how can you reform? In what twilight zone is spending billions of dollars to give darkness seen as success? In what twisted fantasy is encouraging corruption and bankrupting the country seen as success of a party? This man's handlers seriously lied to him. They don't know that APC won DESPITE all their rigging in certain parts of the country. PDP STILL has nothing good to offer Nigerians. I hope Labour can step up to the plate and grow as a party that can offer Nigeria viable alternatives. |
barcanista:I thought you and your lot were claiming there was no kidnapping and it was all a scam to rubbish your idol?? Shameless |
Better late then never. Good news and well done to all involved. We don't know who these rescued people are though, Boko Haram has been kidnapping and killing unchallenged for many months now. |
LouisVanGaal:.. . . . . . why are you taking him seriously ? ? ? |
But the Buhari team definitely made a huge mistep with Timipre Sylva. Seriously. That man should not be anywhere near responsible positions. He did a terrible job in Bayelsa, that state has never had a good leader. It is not so critical that he is in the transition team, as long as he is not given any position of responsibility at the federal government, not even opening and closing the gate to the federal secretariat, he will mess it up. |
He hasn't even entered office and he is already improving the profile and image of the country. |
chukwudi44:If it was up to people like you Ibori would have never seen the inside of a jail cell. You are not ashamed that it was European intervention that served justice to a man who stole from you people. Lower Niger Congress my left yansh. Still fighting this game of "you must catch my thief last" while your house is being burgled. |
And who wants PDP rebuilt? There are other alternatives to consider for opposition and I think Labour would be a good party to build up to present as a credible opposition. PDP stands for everything bad Nigerians don't want anynore, and should be consigned to the dustbins of Nigeria's history. It is not just about opposition for the sake of it, it is about credible opposition. What does PDP have to offer apart from corruption, impunity and violence? Labour and APGA are there, and can be built up. We should be burying PDP and digging out the bones to cremate just to make double sure they don't return. |
linusbnn:Forgive me for wasting my time. |
These groups speak for themselves, and it is hard to take them seriously considering they were silent during the 5 years of misrule of Jonathan that did nothing for the region they claim to love. Nothing deep or meaningful in this gathering, just a continuation of "our brother our oyel" politics. Eventhough that "brother" only enriched himself, did nothing for you people, and planted dischord among you. Silly people. If they are so serious let them push for a referendum, it is not any yahoo group that can come out and claim to speak the mind of a whole region, that is not the way the world works. |
linusbnn:Why don't YOU go and learn how they name streets in saner climes before telling someone else to use their head. Is it their money he used to build the road? You think this is north korea? I am sure in your mind you thought you were making a point and being clever. As I said, they have been named and they can be renamed, it is only a matter of passing a motion. It is time we start reserving such honours for people actually worthy of it. Is it the same i.d.iot of a Minister that named a whole district in Abuja after Goodluck? |
And they can be renamed again, no big deal. Nigerian leaders are so crude, imagine trying to give glory to yourself. Why don't they wait for others to judge them of being worthy of having a street named after them? |
Perfect. We are going to find out if he was proactively corrupt or just incompetent. The last 5 years need to be explained so we don't make the same mistakes. |

What do you have to say about underage voting
