Nairaland General › Happy Independence Day To All. by Slizbeat(op):
Even though we have nothing to celebrate about yet, let us thank God for the gift of existence as we do thank him for the gift of life. With Hope and Faith that one day we shall get better, take just a minute and sing the National Anthem of our Beloved Nation; NIGERIA. You have every reason to oppose and castigate but remember, "in life, you don't mind what people say or think, just live your life the Way you can". 9ja number 1 rep, I even change the line from to serve with strength to "to serve with heart. Once again,[b]HAPPY INDEPENDENCE[\b]

I have nothing much to say. Let the right among them be vindicated and the wrong be put to shame. Meanwhile what I know is that Obi is not wrong by sending a petition to GEJ cos a reasonable government would not send them packing immediately without thorough and proper Investigation. By the way, how comes Fashola never had any knowledge of it? Dama politicians are bunch of Liars.

By the way, how do you know one's state of Origin? And in the 1st page of this thread, one posted "what makes Ade a Native of Lagos and Emeka a Native of Anambra?" the simple answer is NOTHING. my cousin bears BOLAJI and if one would answer the question above, u would say my cousin is 4rm the SW which u would fail 100% in any exam. The fact that they bear ADE or EMEKA doesnt make u knw their state of Origin or Nativity, it only makes u knw that one of the parents is either 4rm the SW or SE and u cnt even guess correctly. A yorubaman+Igbowoman could marry and give birth to a kid they would call EMEKA. Without the surname, u would never believe the Afformentioned EMEKA is a yoruba. So i just answered the question in my own terms.

I can guarantee 98% of those are not igbos talk more of industrious Anambra people. How did fashola tell who is Anambra or not before dumping them there. I dont know why any time is being wasted, the only sensible thing peter obi should do is to bundle them back and send them back to Lagos govt house. no brainer or protocol there.[/quote]No my brother, the most reasonable thing Obi should do is keep them in Anambra and use the labour force they would produce for the betterment of the people and the state. A reasonable govt. believes in the strenght of Diversity, per say, check U.S.A and China. Very soon i would teach Nigerians how to govern, i guess much hailing and praises turns their heads around. OBI pls think wise b4 u act, FASHOLA am dissappointed.

Nairaland General › Whats Up With Islam And Violence? by Slizbeat(op): 3:39pm On Sep 15, 2012
This has really been bothering me for the past few days and now i cant help but let it be known. what is wrong with Islam and Violence?
Just because of a MOVIE about prophet Mohammed, they took it as if America had killed all their Imams. Now on CNN and other news channels, the headlines are always about Protest in Libya, pakistan, Egypt, Iran e.t.c, 100 injured, 20 dead and so on.
Why killing people just because of a movie, So long as u have a God and believe in him, he would always vindicate and exenorate you from the deeds of the evil. Killing for the sake of a movie that they feel potrays a bad image of him is not right. "BLACK JESUS" was produced, wasnt it?
It potrays a bad image of Jesus drinking, holding arms and commiting crimes, didnt it?
What happened to the Crew of the Movie? They all died right?
When the Movie came out, did the Christains Protest? NO
So why is this now different?
Why cant they just allow their God to work for them?
Infact am just not happy about what is going on because it indicates one of the signs of the endtime from my own view which states that "NATIONS WOULD FIGHT AGAINST NATIONS" just as in the case of what is happening.
Abeg make una help me begin 2 ask and contribute.

Politics › Unnecessary Criticism Of Jonathan. by Slizbeat(op): 5:27pm On Sep 12, 2012
Over the last eight months, I have watched with keen interesthow opposition political parties and some notable Nigerians have criticised President Goodluck Jonathan and his administration.
While some of these criticisms have been objective, constructive and have portrayed nationalist interests, some have been unnecessary and at best, political.
Ordinarily criticisms are meant to correct and keep one on course but when they become unconstructive, biased and appear to have veiled motives intended to pitch the citizenry against the President, then, theynot only become laughable and seen as mere academic exercise, but make mockery of the original critic.
The fact is that I am not a member of PDP,or by any meansa beneficiary of this administration, and like most ordinary Nigerians, I am a victimof PDP misrule since the last 12 years. But the point is criticizing the President should be constructive, objective and seen to have nationalistic interest.
I was particularly piqued by the recent outburst of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, averring that the President’s submission at the 52nd Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association, that he is the most criticized President in the world, and more so he inherited the insecurity problem, power failure and collapsed national infrastructure from previous administrations, is a sign of failure, incompetence and unpreparedness for governance.
But let us be sincere: Was the President’s assertion far from the truth? It is a general knowledge that the challenges President Jonathan faces today are no doubt the creation and offshoot of previous administrations in the country.
But while it will be acknowledged that as the current President, the responsibility of steering the nation out of these challenges lies squarely with him, it is not out of place for him to admit that the country’s current challenges are a product of previous administrations and should not have been registered by the ACN as a sign of failure orincompetence.
The truth is, the criticisms from opposition political parties should be to get the President tosit up, and they must be objective, transparent and constructive.
Criticisms should not be dished out with the aim of scoring cheap political points or whipping up political sentiments and emotions. In criticizing the President, the interest of the nation should be paramount and not the parochial interest of any political party, ethnic nationality, religion or region.

Christianity Etc › Will Americans Receive A Microchip Implant In 2013 Per Obamacare? by Slizbeat(op): 12:56pm On Aug 30, 2012
[b]A major news story broke on AOL and countless other mainstream news media outlets, this past week, that the Obama Health Care Bill will require all U.S. citizens and babies to receive a microchip or Medchip by March 23, 2013. Whether or not the microchip requirement in the bill is implemented by 2013, remains to be seen.
In 2010, my book “Are You Ready for the Microchip?” was released, and I asked the question, “Is the microchip implant hidden in the Healthcare Bill? Are newborn children starting in 2013 going to receive a microchip shortly after birth?” Then in the book, I wrote, “ In the massive US HEALTHCARE BILL,which your elected representatives voted for without reading, there is a section titled: Subtitle C-11 Sec. 2521 – National Medical Device Registry which states:
“The Secretary shall establish a national medical device registry (in this subsection referred to asthe ‘registry’) to facilitate analysis of postmarket safety and outcomes data on each device that—‘‘(A) is or has been used in or on a patient; and ‘‘(B) is a class III device; or ‘‘(ii) a classII device that is implantable.”
The language is deliberately vague, but it provides the structure for making America the first nation in the world that would require every U.S. citizen to receive an implanted radio-frequency (RFID) microchip for the purpose of controlling medical care.
A number of states like Virginia, have passed “stop the mark of the beast legislation” in an effort to stop this kind of legislation..............

Politics › Anambra Monarch Freed, 9days After Kidnap by Slizbeat(op): 11:49am On Aug 08, 2012
By VINCENT UJUMADU

AWKA—THE traditional ruler of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Robert Eze, who was kidnapped on July 29, 2012 regained his freedom, yesterday, after spending nine days in the kidnappers’den.
Igwe Eze, younger brother to Prince Arthur Eze, was abducted from his palace by a four-man gang who operated in an SUV, as he returned from a church service at the nearby St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Ukpo.
When Vanguard visited the palace, yesterday, a large crowd was seen jubilating and thanking God for the safe return of the royal father.
Among the early callers were several priests from different part of Anambra State, who organised a prayer session in the house of the traditional ruler, as well as the Anambra State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Professor Chinyere Okunna, who it was gathered, was detailed by Governor Peter Obi to confirm the release of the monarch and brief him accordingly.
There were also many traditional rulers, who showed up at Igwe Eze’s palace, among them were the traditional rulers of Abagana, Igwe Mbamala and that of Nibo, Igwe Ugonwanne Ngene, as well as members of Ukpo traditional cabinet.
The embattled Igwe Eze could not appear in public, yesterday, although Vanguard was informed that he managed to come out of his balcony to wave at his subjects, who thronged the palace as earlyas 5a.m., when they learnt of his return.
It was not clear if any ransom was paid before his release, although the kidnappers had demanded N100 million a day after his abduction.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Raphael Uzoigwe, confirmed that the monarch had regained his freedom.

Politics › El-rufai To Jonathan: Quit If You Can’t Solve Nigeria’s Problems by Slizbeat(op): 11:15am On Aug 08, 2012
By SONI DANIEL

ABUJA—As the spate of violence escalates, particularly in the North, former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, has asked President Goodluck Jonathan to quit if he could not solve the growing security threats to lives and property in the country.
In an exclusive interview with Vanguard yesterday, el-Rufai said it was indefensible for the government to allow innocent souls to be slaughtered daily without any response from the administration. El-Rufai spoke against the backdrop of Chief Edwin Clark’s assertion that northern leaders were not doing enough to curtail the Boko Haram sect, apparently to bring down the administration.
While dismissing Clark’s allegation as untenable, the former minister warned the elder statesman to desist from making inflammatory and unverified statements capable of exposing him to ridicule instead of applause that he deserves at his age.
El-Rufai also asked the former federal information commissioner to desist from insulting northern leaders at the slightest opportunity.
According to him, Jonathan has already made it clear to Nigerians and the international community that the gale of bombings in the land was beyond the capability of his administration to handle, a situation, he described as unfortunate. He stated that other Nigerian heads of state had at different times and periods been confronted with serious challenges and they deployed appropriate state apparatus to deal with them without resorting to wrong quarters and the ordinary citizens for help. “Why is it that only President Jonathan cannot solve Nigeria’s security problem? el-Rufai asked.
“If he cannot do the job for which he was elected to do, he should consider going home. No president has ever sought the help of the ordinary people in tackling security problems in this country.
“The protection of lives and property of the citizens is the basis of any government in power and if the leadership has failed woefully to deploy the resources and information at its disposal to enforce coercive power for the benefit of the society, then it had no reason to stay on,” he stated.
He said the current situation in the country had made many Nigerians to be worried about the future of the country, warning that if urgent steps were not taken to reverse the dangerous trend, the country could be plunged into a deeper crisis.
On the controversy over the implementation of the budget, the former minister maintained that if the budget had worked, it would have brought some relief to the ordinary citizens who had almost been choked by the economic stagnation in the country. “Yes, all of us would have seen the results if the budget had been well implemented. A good economic system shows in the quality of lives of the people and does notend on the pages of newspapers,” he added. The former minister said the finance minister alone cannot change the current gloomy economic outlook in the country, as a tree cannot make a forest.
On the allegations that he was making noise preparatory to contesting the presidential election in 2015, he cautioned those making the claims to wait for 2015, pointing out however, that he was qualified to do so if he wanted.
