hollaugo: Hello House. Great Forum for the FSW program. I only learnt of the program on monday, I have so far initiated the sending of my transcript to WES for validation. tried registering for IELTS unfortunately closest date is the 2nd of August in Abuja. Ill have to settle for that. My question is as regards two issues:

1. Birth Certificate - is it required
2. What is the deadline for application and about the settlement funds what is the actual amount required and can i just deposit it at once (must it be a dorm account)

Thanks guys.
What is your intended eligible occupation?

1. VERY required - this is a singular reason for rejection of many applications. Affidavit does not suffice in FSWP application.

2. The program runs between May 1st,2014 through to April 30th,2015. However there are caps for each eligible occupation presently pegged at 1,000 subject to a maximum of 25,000.

The required amount is dependent on your family size. You can read more here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/funds.asp

Well,it is permitted at this stage to "deposit it at once" but you might (most times they do) be required to send a 12 month historical transaction of your bank statement. So be careful not to borrow this fund just to meet the requirement. It is expected that this fund will be available to you in liquid form at anytime during the processing of your application.

Hotstepper: Hello, hope everyone is fine. Please is c of o considered as part of proof of fund? And do 1 attach bank statements for past months or just a document to show u have that money. Also, Do one need to do background declaration for 6 months daughter? I can only see where it says for dependents over 18
C of O is not acceptable as proof of settlement fund. You can attach bank statement showing the appropriate unencumbered fund for the past month (can be for the past days too) prior to your application.

Background declaration is for dependents from 18 years and above.

That is fine as long as you are not submitting an expired passport at the time of your application.

Eni23: Hi,

I applied for NOC 1112 category this year. I send my application sometime before the 16th of May 2014 and they still haven't send me an answer.
From what I can the GAP for this category is filling up quickly.

Can anyone that has applied for the same category tell me if they have got an answer yet and what to expect?

Thank you,

Eni
Application received around May 7th and 8th are currently being processed by CIO of the CIC. You should get the status of your application in the next few weeks.

unibadan: Hello all,

My international passport expires May 2015. Is it advisable for me to renew my passport now despite the fact that i still have 9 months to expiry date if am to send all my documents in September.

If i am to renew it now, will be acceptable for renewal since the cut off for renewal is 6 months.

Kindly advise.
Thank you.
You don't have to renew it before sending in your application. Your application is treated as valid as at the date of receipt.

You can however make arrangement to renew the passport once your application has been forwarded.

No one can say precisely if your occupation will be listed next year as listed occupations are determined by a number of factors, the most important determinant which is the need for skilled worker in that field in Canada.

Also note that there will be an introduction of a new system called "Express Entry" similar to what you have with the Australian immigration system from January 2015.

The main duties of your occupation is listed here http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/NOC/English/NOC/2011/QuickSearch.aspx?val65=6411
You can read through to understand what your work reference should include if you work in that field and have the experience as stated/listed.

ANBAKO: Solo, Thanks for your response above but unfortunately this has not answered my question.
What is the format for translation?
Does it require official stamp, signature, address, contact details of translator?
Does it require copy of translator's certification?
Who can translate the certificate? Certified translator or any competent person (with sworn affidavit)?
Do I need to notarize it? or just an affidavit will do?

The reason why I am asking these questions is because i want to save some money on translation (close to 50k) and it is only possible if what is required is just a translation from a competent person (schoolmates/friends)with sworn affidavit.

I need serious enlightenment on this.
I don't have experience in translation of documents except of course with those embassies who have official translators in Nigeria but I do know there are official translators around Ikeja high court in Lagos.

Maybe others in the thread can help out. You can also read up on the threads relating to this on NL (Germany,Ukraine,Norway, etc).

ANBAKO: House, I have 6 document in a language other than English and French. What are the requirements for translating document to English Language? Can anyone apart from family members translate it? Must be translator be Certified? This is because I have friends who can translate the document correctly but they are not Certified Translators.
Kindly advise!!!

Below is the excerpt from CIC website on translation.

Translation of documents

Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by:

the English or French translation; and
an affidavit from the person who completed the translation; and
a certified copy of the original document.
Note: An affidavit is a document on which the translator has sworn, in the presence of a commissioner authorized to administer oaths in the country in which the translator is living, that the contents of their translation are a true translation and representation of the contents of the original document. Translators who are certified members in good standing of one of the provincial or territorial organizations of translators and interpreters of Canada do not need to supply an affidavit.

Important information. Translations by family members are not acceptable.
Please go to ikeja (if you are in Lagos). There are translators around ikeja high court who would also notarize the translated documents for a fee.

Secondly pls though my brother in law is sponsoring us how much can we av in our bank statement.
1. Your application is to be submitted together as a family.

2. As you are adults embarking on a trip with your family, your personal circumstances will be under scrutiny to ascertain whether you merit the visa or not. Your in-law being a sponsor will not cover your personal circumstances from being scrutinized so it is advisable you ensure you have all the necessary documentation/proof to show you will not be a public charge.

1 if i send my transcript to WES, will i recieve mail or email of the evalaution or will it be sent to Fwsp or will the evaluation be with Wes for futre us?so that in case i want to use it in future.
2. I work as a preseller with Nbc maker of coke, through an agency(contract). It is more like sales representative. Should categories the preseller job description as sales representative?
3 where can i do my IELTS?What is the level with whict to prepare?
1.Your educational institution is supposed to send your transcripts to WES DIRECTLY at your request. Prior to this you must have registered on WES' website and obtained a reference number which has to be quoted on all correspondences between you and WES. You can track the progress of your evaluation on your application portal. Once evaluation is concluded, you will be sent your ECA result via regular post mail (except you opt for international express courier service which will cost you extra money). You will also be able to access your result online. Your evaluation result will be with WES for years and you can ask for upgrade for whatever purpose in the future.

2.You cannot change your job title. Apply under the same job title as it is now. However, you need to ensure your work reference(s) state your main duties and they align with the main duties of your eligible occupation.

3. Please approach the British Council office on details of how and where to register for IELTS. https://ielts.britishcouncil.org/

Get married to her! Common law partner/arrangement is alien to our culture. If CIO Nova Scotia doesn't know this, the Accra Visa Office Know this much. You will have a whole lot to prove.

It is as good as going to a customary court for marriage even though it is not the same.

yomfad: Dear Solomonwise, i have just made payment for my Bsc to be evaluated by WES before i saw FAQ about required documents from Nigeria where it was stated as follow :

Question "I was exempted from part of my program (e.g. year 1) due to prior study completed. Do I need to provide transcripts for all prior study as well?

Answer "Yes. WES will require academic transcripts for all study leading to your qualification, including prior study that granted you study exemptions. WES will not issue an evaluation report that does not include a complete record of your study.

In my case, i did direct entry to 200 level for my Bsc. i did not indicate this when filling WES form online because i was thinking that i will be evaluated base on higher qualification. please what can i do now?
Please include your transcripts leading to the award of your Bsc and the certificate/educational qualification that earned you the direct entry. You don't need to ask your first educational institution to forward your transcripts directly. Just include the certificate/results that earned you the Bsc in the documents to be forwarded to WES.

unibadan: I am at a cross road. With the score of IELTS to be 18, Education is 23, Experience is 15, Age, 12. This gives a total of 68. a point higher than 67. Will there be a slim chance for me to be selected for the score of 68 without asking my wife to do IELTS for additional 5 point.
What you need to scale the hurdle is 67 points. Even if you score 100 points, you are at no advantage over the person who score 67.

So,there is no need adding more to the points once you calculate your point well enough and you cross reference the calculation.

borgyv: hi, can somebody give me advice:

I have been working as purchasing manager for ten years of a retail company that is registered/owned bt my husband. I have Masters in Business administration and my ielts is average 7.5. I have submitted to WES my credentials waiting for their assessment. The recent changes in fswp encouraged me to apply because purchasing manager is in the noc list but on one hand i am skeptical since the company i am working for is owned by my husband and the noc description for purchasing manager say, may be employed in private and public sector, period, it didnt say maybe self-employed unlike in othe noc job like in advertising. so my question is:

1.would you advise me to still apply in fswp?
2.if yes, what documents should i submit? I was thinking of reference from suppliers, but how could I show compensation? Does my husband need to make the job description/reference, technically it is not self-declared right?
3.do you kow for anyone similar to my case that has been approved?

I hope you could guide me.
Working in a family business leaves you to no disadvantage. You must however treat your work/relationship on the job as an employer-employee relationship. Working relationship must be defined and documented. Appointment letters, promotion letters, annual leave, pay stub/pay slips, confirmation letter, etc must be professionally documented as request may be made of them in the future.

1. Yes,you can for FSWP.

2. You don't need work reference from suppliers as you are not applying as self employed applicant. Like I stated earlier, your relationship with your husband's company must be formally documented just like every employees. Work reference must be provided like every employees. Bottomline, treat your relationship with the company as an employer-employee relationship.

3. Everybody applied as an employee of a company not minding who the promoters of the companies are. Few people apply as self-employed and the scrutiny with which their applications were subjected to is much more than a "skilled worker" employed by a company.

Solomonwis and co,kindly help
You will be eligible to apply after 2 years if you meet certain stipulated conditions/requirement. I should let you know your eligibility is dependent on the ever changing and dynamic immigration law of Canada and the need for your skills/expertise at the time.

Securing a job as a student is not a too hard nut to crack but you must ensure not go work outside of the stipulated time limit.

olasalamis: Good evening guys, i need adequate information about my concerns as stated below?

1. I have worked for close to 10 years in 3 different organisations, my question is do i have to get letters from all the employers stating my job functions and a lot of other things or do i have to just get a letter from the employer i have matching job description according to the NOC

2. Can i submit double application i.e my wife and i separately to increase our chances. We both have jobs that are under the NOC list

3. Once you are granted the visa, what will be the duration of the visa in the first instance and what is usually the latest date of entry into Canada or must i go immediately
1. It is advisable to provide all the work references from all the organisation you've worked for in the last 10 years. Even though the work reference relating to your eligible occupation is most important, the other work references will increase your score point under work experience if within the last 10 years.

2. Yes,you can submit separate applications but before the issuance of your visas (if both application is positively considered),one of you will be asked to withdraw the application for the other.

3.Once you are granted visa, you CANNOT stay within the country beyond the expiration date of your medical result as the principal applicant.
