Crime › Re: Nigerian Student Commits Suicide In India by specialguest(f): 5:48pm On Jan 06, 2013
Suicide is not a taboo "subject" in India as you have been made to believe just as bomb blasts no longer makes headlines in Nigeria. Not because these issues cannot be discussed openly but because of the geometric increase in the rate at which these events occur ....

By the way thank you for the compliment grin who knows? I may become the first civillian to be appointed into the JTF ( but i dont wish to be posted to the headquarters 'Borno' anyway)

ogugua88: Kai. Omo see "theorizing". Join JTF biko. Maybe you fit end this Boko Haram nonsense for all and once lol.

Suicide is not investigated in India because it is a taboo subject, just like in our beloved Naija. If it happens, it's swept under a rug. Families will tell you the deceased was "sick" or any other story. I'm sure if an Indian jumped from Third Mainland Bridge, Indians would come to similar conclusions as yours.
Crime › Re: Nigerian Student Commits Suicide In India by specialguest(f): 2:35am On Jan 06, 2013
I am glad most Nigerians do not believe this cock and bull depression story. In the 2 years I studied and lived in India I never heard or saw any black man that was clinically certified depressed. Going by this, I am pretty sure Indian police might have been after him for some reasons and he decided to take his life before they got him or they intentionally killed him for reasons best known to them and the suicide story is just a cover up. Afterall suicide cases are not investigated in India because they are an everyday occurence. I just wish the Nigerian high commission has regards for the lives of Nigerians living abroad, Maybe kelvin would have gone to seek for help from the commission rather than taking his own life. May his soul rest in peace

Health › Re: University Of Calabar Teaching Hospital Commences Kidney Dialysis by specialguest(f): 6:59pm On Dec 26, 2012
A welcomed development, but it is long overdue.. It beats my imagination why a Teaching hospital which has been in existence for so many years is only just having a dialysis unit now... Meanwhile thousands of Nigerians are suffering from chronic kidney disease, it makes me wonder what kind of treatment those patients have been receiving.

For those who dont know the importance of dialysis let me give you a brief lecture. A dialysis becomes necessary when the kidneys loose their function i.e the kidney is no longer able to filter waste, toxins and excess water from the body in such case the creatine level of the patient goes up and the water retention causes swelling in the body especially around the ankles. kidney dialysis becomes necessary to filter such wastes and excess fluid from the body thereby reducing the "pains" associated with chronic kidney disease.

The importance of kidney dialysis to kidney failure patients cannot be over emphasized so i am wondering why it took the teaching hospital so long to have a dialysis unit. Could it be that the health of the residents in calabar is not a priority to the government as much as the calabar carnival is?

tongue Its easier to choose skin colours these days. When a lady can switch from white to black within weeks and back to black anytime she chooses I don't see any challenge for you
By the way I am not a fan of bleaching creams.
I find Lightskin Women Easier To Date and Get Along with.

I am more attracted to Darker Women because i find them more challenging and their beauty more exotic.

Beautiful Lightskin Chiqs are usually more secure in their beauty, So they are easier to deal with.

But Easier can also Translate into More Boring.

I enjoy a challenge.

enkoby: My mum got married to my dad in 1983, they had my brother that same year. but in 1984, when she took in again, my dad left her and got married to another lady. in that same year (1984), my mum had me. subsequently, my dad died in his second marriage. so from 1984 (28 years ago), my mum took up the responsibility of raising my brother and myself single-handedly. she had brothers and sisters shaa, but they also had their own families and their own responsibilities to take care of. my mom was a civil servant in Anambra State. her salary was next to nothing. but she managed to put us in good primary, secondary and university schools. we went through a lot. At a time, we did not have money to buy kerosene to cook, so we used boiler...yes, we used ring boiler to boil tomatoes by inserting the ring into the bowl of tomatoes and allowing it to boil, then after some time we 'll take off the boiler and add salt and pepper, then viola...food is ready! then we used the same boiler to boil yam, beans and rice. infact at a time, the matter worsened. there was no food at all to eat in the house.. as in no food at all. so my mum suggested that we should declare fasting and prayers that day, so we started fasting and praying in the morning. At about 6pm, when we wanted to close the fasting, there was no food to eat. sow we continued fasting till the next day which was a sunday. my mum told our pastor our plight and he announced it in church. our church members contributed money for us that day. it was quite a lot. lasted us for the next few weeks.

my mum used to wear one cloth to work everyday, when she comes back, she will wash it and hang it to dry so she can wear it the next day. we wore the same school uniforms for years, with all the wear and tear, and on empty stomachs. at a point, our landlord drove us out of the house, so we moved in with an uncle whose wife and kids showed us hell.

Infact, i have so many instances to share, but i cant continue, cos this has brought back bitter memories and i am at my office shedding tears on my keyboard as i type.

but i wont stop without sharing the good news. . my brother is now a medical doctor and i am now a successful lawyer, with a loving husband and a cute little boy. I keep praying to God to preserve my mother for me so that she can reap the full fruits of her labour. God, I cant stop crying. . .
After reading your post to my mum she spent over 10mins weeping.. Memories she said! Your mother is an amazon and a paragon of strength.. I pray she lives long to enjoy the fruit of her labour..

ekwenchi: I just lost my husband aged 29 years on December 3rd to a domestic accident, and am 26years. We have been married 2years July 2012 and we have a 2year old son. It still feels unreal but the grace of God is sufficient for me. It's a week now and am still waiting to wake up from the nightmare, but Jer 29 vs 11 gives me solace and a reason to trust God. My inlaws are trying their best, because everyone is hurting. Harsh words and accusations have been flung here and there but it's just a need to be angry at something or someone. My son is giving us all solace because he is a full replica of his father.

I am not a widow and my son is not fatherless because we both have a heavenly husband and father that loves us despite the pain and grief we are going through now. I am using this medium to reach out to everyone that we should mend our ways with God and know that all the pursuit of life is vanity and that life is but like a puff of smoke that can be gone in a second.

It is well with my sisters out there that have lost the love of their lives, none of us knew that when we said the words in a vow 'till death do us part' that it would be in 2years or so sudden, but our heavenly Father knows the beginning from the end. I thank God for my Mother who is my prayer partner and my church who has stood solidly behind me.

To God be all the glory, Amen. smiley
Awwwww! The Lord is your strength... Am really sorry for your loss, just 2 years into marriage! God knows best

berem: @ specialguest 20years as a widow and she didnt remarry? haba na! for how long is she gonna mourn? that's not fair. life has to go on.you and your siblings would have encouraged her to remarry. at least you need another father figure in you life. I know that traditions could be a setback to some widows, but please let her remarry.I know of some traditions that makes a widow forfeit her late husband's properties immediately she remarries but hey she needs another man in her life. life surely goes on my dear.
I understand where you are coming from but its not like she ever said she wanted to remarry and any of us objected to it.. My mum is really beautiful and she has a couple of suitors that i am aware of however she knows in her heart that if she ever remarried, that step father might never treat her kids as his own, besides who wouldve have married a 27year old woman with three kids? Lately i also found out that a clause was attached to her keeping custody of the children by my uncles since she refused to marry any of them as it is permitted in hausa cultire. on the event that she remarries, she forfiets the custody of her children to her mother in law (my father's mother). So you see Berem it wasnt that easy.
Family › Re: The Plight Of Nigerian Widows. by specialguest(op): 11:08am On Dec 12, 2012
Kobojunkie: @Poster, if you are trying to change the plight of widows, it is required that tradition be changed, else nothing will be achieved. Currently, in much of Nigeria, women, and children are still regarded as property that can be discarded at will.
@kobojunkie considering this is a circumstance that affects almost everyone directly i.e we all have either mothers, sisters, daughters, cousins, friends, neighbours or colleques that are widows, cant we change the traditions as individuals gradually? For example the next time someone around you is trying to oppress a widow, you can put a feet a down and say no.
