2. I'm sure you can do it in any country. However what I'm not sure of is what happens to you if you do. He is sure that nothing will happen to him here so he can do it.

PoliticsRe: Present Condition Of Roads In Aba Abia State by Stylz69(m): 11:18am On Apr 20, 2016
dfrost:
That's a good idea on paper though. My questions for you are these:

1. What happened to maintaining existing structures before creating new ones?

2. Who is the owner of this project? ABSG or Okezie Ikpeazu or the consortium that will carry out the project?

Because I don't see how this addresses the roads that are very bad at the moment, albeit Aba's problem is majorly the roads.

Think about this, lest you start creating a section where the rich can stay and leave the poor masses to suffer.
The state and federal government are responsible for maintaining existing structures (roads). If the state government cannot maintain state roads and asks a private company to do it and toll it. Would you pay?
The owners of the project are the people of Abia state. It's your land, it's in your state. It cannot be carried away so you all (I assume you are from Abia) own it.
I don't think the problem of Aba is just the roads. It is also the people. If they had a sense of pride for their city, they won't dump rubbish indiscriminately or is it the road that dumped rubbish there. The roads are bad; all well and good but turning the roadside to rubbish dumps as well. Anyway, hopefully this model city will trigger the State government to improve its existing cities.

You are probably aware that your state has a PPP Public Private Partnership office headed by Mr. Austin Ufomba. We worked closely with him to bring this project to reality. We were in Abia two weeks ago to see the site which is massive...and today we met your governor who is passionate to see this project realised. Like I said, it is not an estate, it is a city. It will be managed privately so you are certain it will be a city that works. All infrastructure provided...I cannot give you more details now but in the coming days I may open a thread to showcase progress. We have contacted a team of foreign town planners to come up with a masterplan. Start saving because in 3-5 years you can buy into this city.

Hmmm...I didn't know that Aba was in such a deplorable state. However I have good news for Abians and in the coming days/weeks/ months you may get to hear of it. You will have an opportunity to live in a modern city with every amenity you can think of. I was part of a group of investors and we met with your governor this evening in Abuja. We are proposing to build an new city between Aba and Umuahia... it is a 580 hectare development in Nsulu and it will be world class with all infrastructure plus hotel, parks, fire station, a golf course and all the works. I would like to get some feedback from Abians here. Is this a welcome project and would you live here if completed?

At least Obiano is doing something tangible. If you ask the gworo chewing dullard of Daura what he has initiated and commissioned after almost a year in office........
This project wasn't initiated in the last year. We funded this project in 2014 under the 2013 CGS to State. What that means is the proposal for this project was submitted in 2013 but we gave them funds in 2014. The project is counterpart funded which means that we give the state 50% and the state provides 50%. I must say that I'm impressed with the scale of the project and I hope they can sustain it.

He called the account officer and reported at the bank bit they did nothing. He spent the money. Almost 6-7 months later, they debited his account for that amount. Just be sure that sooner or later they will detect the error and just be sure that when they do, you have enough in your account to cover it else....

The current inefficiency of the petroleum industry makes your comparison with telecoms a case of comparing apples with oranges. Pipelines for example, are not operational due to sabotage and tankers must be used for distribution which is highly inefficient and adds several variable costs to the final cost of petroleum products which makes it a much more difficult industry to regulate if eventually deregulated. Deregulation essentially weakens the powers of the DPR so I'm not sure I fully get your point.
Deregulation doesn't weaken the power of the DPR (regulator). The telecoms sector is deregulated but has NCC as the regulatory body and they have immense power . Recall the hefty fine placed on MTN. Deregulation doesn't mean that market players can do as they wish, in fact the regulatory bodies exercise more power in a deregulated market. Deregulate and marketers will invest in more efficient ways to get their products to the stations. We may pay more initially but it will level out.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Blames Economic Woes On Past Leaders by Stylz69(m): 7:57am On Apr 05, 2016
maximunimpact:
President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja blamed past Nigerian leaders for the country’s economic troubles as he said they led without discipline.

He recounted that for the greater part of the last 16 years, oil sold above $100 per barrel but expressed regret that the nation did not have much to show for it.

“In the First Republic, more enduring infrastructure was built with meagre resources. But in the past 16 years, we made a lot of money without planning for the rainy day.

“We showed a lot of indiscipline in managing our economy, and that is why we are where we are today. But this time round, we’ll do our best” the President said while receiving the President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Bernard O. Aliyu at the State House.

The President, has at different fora blamed the past administrations ruled by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for ruining the country’s economy.

President Buhari stressed that there was an urgent need to ensure that the potentials of Nigeria are harnessed and used for the good of the country.

“Nigeria needs to work on her potentials, so that we don’t remain permanently at the level of potentials.

“If Ethiopia is sustained largely by her airline industry, we have greater potentials here. But we must move out, engage with the rest of the world, as we need to re-establish the integrity of this country. We need to rebuild this country again.”

Aliyu, the Nigerian-born ICAO president commended President Buhari for strides on anti- corruption, and urged Nigeria to pay more attention to development of civil aviation.

“Civil aviation is a catalyst for economic development. The level of aviation development in any country mirrors the economic development of that country,” Aliyu said.

The ICAO president pledged to support the development of the aviation industry in Nigeria, urging the country to improve on training and capacity development, aviation security, aerodromes and air navigation, runways, control towers, terminal buildings, among others.

Someone is beginning to sound like a broken record... and he was a past leader too. Ah well, I guess he was voted in for these sound bites. Mr. President, you aren't saying anything new; you were voted in because the populace wanted things to be better and not for you to repeat the woes of the past. I keep seeing "in the past 16 years" as if Nigeria never existed before then or corruption on non-existent pre-16 years ago. The combined loot pre -2000 will triple that stolen in the last 16 years.
PoliticsRe: Cause Of Fuel Scarcity Blamed On FG Rigidity On Pricing by Stylz69(m): 7:50am On Apr 05, 2016
fulanimafia:
Right now those saboteurs diverting products for their selfish gain are terrorizing Nigerians, and no sane government negotiates with terrorists.

Giving into their blackmail by deregulating will only legalize their insane profiteering, and if you think it's horrible buying fuel at N150/litre, wait till deregulation is implemented and your petrol station boldly displays N300/litre without the DPR having any power to do anything about it, and you're forced to pay that price, not for the period of any scarcity, but for the next 4, 8 or 12 years.

Deregulation at this time when our pipelines are ineffective, the industry is inefficient, and our marketers/importers are so greedy and undisciplined is a no no in my opinion.
The inability for a regulator to exercise it's power shouldn't be an excuse to maintain a bad system. In an open market, markets forces can come into play and ensure we pay the right prices however I agree that regulation will play an important role and the DPR are not living up to their responsibility. Look at the telecom sector, when MTN and Econet were the dominant players. We were forced to pay per minute and told that per second billing couldn't be implemented. It didn't take any regulation to force prices down neither did government fix prices for calls even when we cried out. It took a new market entrant, Glo to enter the market with per second billing and immediately all the others had to do the same. At one point, it needs to be done. Price fixing is inefficient and we will continue to suffer this scarcity. As a private investor, I will not build a refinery or pipelines if I cannot recoup my costs in a market with fixed prices, government will not build refineries and pipelines because it can't. ..so what is the solution?
PoliticsRe: Cause Of Fuel Scarcity Blamed On FG Rigidity On Pricing by Stylz69(m): 6:32am On Apr 05, 2016
The government doesn't want to make the unpopular decision, which by the way is the best decision, to deregulate the sector. I see people happily queueing by the road side to buy from black marketers at 150 naira -200 naira per litre yet years ago a wise man deregulated the market, filling stations were told to sell at 141 naira but we occupied the streets revolting. We are paying the price today and putting money in the pockets of those who want the price fixing to continue. Nobody wonders how the fuel ends up in jerrycans. Petrol stations don't necessarily have to divert tankers to make gains. They just sell all their products to the black marketers at 100-120 naira a litre. Let Magu be chasing yam eaters while petrol stations commit even greater financial crimes and corrupt practices.

PhonesRe: Streaming Or Downloading Videos, Most Cheaper?? by Stylz69(m): 8:43am On Mar 31, 2016
yomz1e:
Hope this helps:

When you stream a video or music, the file itself doesn’t live on your device’s hard drive. It’s accessed on the internet, temporarily, while you’re using it. That’s why streaming is used by many sites offering free or rented content: you have access to it but you don’t “own” the content. Streaming is great for watching or listening to content on any device – your internet-connected TV, smartphone, tablet, or laptop. Streaming works better with a faster internet connection as you’re listening or watching in real-time.

By contrast, when you download a video or music, the file itself lives on your hard drive and takes up space there. This means that, once downloaded, you can use it again and again, and not have to download it each time. However, you often have to pay more for downloaded content than you would if you streamed it because you “own” the file. Plus, with downloaded content, it can be challenging to use it across multiple devices.
Though you are right, I think the OP is considering the cost in terms of data usage. I'd rather download than stream anyway considering the points you raised
