Sirmwill: If Crude oil was never discovered in Nigeria, we would have been a great nation rn
We would have been forced to grow in Agriculture, Technology and Science. We would have produced genius inventors and intelligent minds in the world of science and Tech today.
We would have been exporting Technological innovations and Agricultural products today to countries in the world.
Made in Nigeria goods would have been inevitable in all countries. The Nigeria would have been stronger against the dollar. All these old heads won't have showed their faces seeking power because they want to control oil which won't have been existent. They would have been giving speeches to celebrate great Nigerians for their inventions and discoveries(with all the talent Nigerians have 😞)
But
Reverse is the case. Nigeria problem has nothing to do with crude oil. Nigeria culture whether its Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or Fulani are all intellectual primitive. |

DatNiggaDaz:

They will just sit somewhere like they have been doing all these centuries without results & release useless lies & propaganda without providing any evidence to the fact that 70,000 hectares wheat has been planted with an output of over 800,000 hectares metric tonnes of harvest.Mr Minister where is the feasibiliy Study of this project
Simple ways to know that this press release are dished with lies & uncertainty, without an action plan. It involves asking very simple questions ..
..what is the cost of the 70,000 hectares wheat to be planted ...where will the wheat to be planted come from...are they already available to be planted ?...is it a high or low breed grain ?
...In which States will the farmlands hectares be available for this project?.. & what is the security situation in those areas ? Will Additional security be provided in those States, if those chosen states are experiencing insecurity ? No Information was given during the useless press release.
What is the total amount of Loans that was provided by the Afrcan Development Bank for this project ? why is it not stated if you are to be taken serious ( it is not stated because of the usual age long cancer : CORRUPTION. When the amount is not known, it is very easy to loot). How much will be realised from the project ? There are So many questions still to be asked that will show that the statement from the Minister is just what it is.. a press statement
No useful Information was provided..the usual press release of calling low & high numbers & going to do no work while expecting the press release to do the magic of planting & harvestibg over 800, 000 hectares metric tonnes of wheat for the hungry Nigeria masses The issue is with the corrupt news media that publish this rubbish, Zimbabwe has invested in the past five years in building irrigation dams, invested in machinery, yet the best they can get from 80,000 hectares is 375,000 of Wheat. Yet this minister wants us to believe they can harvest 800,000 tons from 70,000 hectares. There is no investment from the private sectors, limited investment in irrigation dams and lack of access to private funds. The reason why there is so much impunity in corruption in Nigeria, is because the news media are corrupt and lazy. |

Isokotolopia: great , food security is paramount Food and Energy security is paramount and an economic necessity. Zimbabwe was able to increase it wheat yield and meet food self-sufficiency. I doubt 70,000 is enough. Zimbabwe was able to produce a yield of 375,000 tons from 80,000 hectares of land, using imported machinery from Belarus. Zimbabwe set for another record wheat yield, bringing back the dream of self-sufficiency With the war in Ukraine as a wake-up call, the African country has decided to focus more on its own production and less on imports. But bigger harvests will not by themselves solve the problem of food insecurity.
Last year, we were able to grow 150 hectares full of wheat,” says Zinyemba with a satisfied smile on his face. “That’s a very good harvest.”
Although the Zimbabwean winter has just begun, another record wheat harvest is expected this year after farmers in the Southern African country planted wheat crops on 86,000 hectares of land, compared to 80,000 hectares last year. By planting so many wheat crops before the planting deadline of June 15, the nation is hoping to produce 420,000 tons of the cereal - much more than the record yield of 375,000 tons that was achieved last year.
The surplus of last year and the prospect for an even larger surplus this year has allowed Zimbabwe to openly dream of food self-sufficiency again. Additionally, last year’s saved $300 million in wheat imports became part of Zimbabwe’s gross domestic product, rather than disappearing abroad, notes Agriculture Ministry Permanent Secretary John Basera.
“We owe our record harvest to our collaboration with the private sector,” says John Basera, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture. He sees that companies and investors, at the initiative of the government, have invested on a large scale in joint ventures. They not only do this to earn money, says Basera, “but certainly also to guarantee food security in our country”. The joint ventures between the business community and the agricultural sector are now bearing fruit for the first time, says Basera, who refers to the historic wheat surplus.

Artiiclebeast: You are calling a closet enemy a friend?
I pity you, bro.
He gets a hard-on from reading about and knowing that he's doing better than you economically and material-wise and all the respect and worship you've been according to him will become a thing of the past.
Most of them hate competition and always revel in the reality of being the ones at the center of all attention.
Even if you are 50 and able to move to the U.S., get serious, work legitimately for the next 5-7 years, and call it a wrap, you will have successfully settled your downlines and created a wonderful retirement plan for yourself with proper planning.
Move, if you can, and with the right plans and connect.
It is good to skill up, but if you ain't got it, you ain't got it and it isn't the beginning and end of life.
There are a ton of zero-skilled jobs where you can make the equivalent of what you currently earn in a month in Nigeria in just a single day..yeah, you heard me right, in a dayyyyy. Nigerians are their own worst enemy; they seek advice and then attack the messenger. The OPED of this thread requested advice and financial assistance, and he was given the advice he then went on to identify the success of a 56-year-old who is doing well in Canada with no evidence of that person's skills, experience and profession. For every Nigerian success story in the West, there are 5 failures. I left Nigeria when I was very young after dropping out of the University of Ibadan to relocate to the UK, as a young with no dependence and responsibility, I could focus on developing my career, learning new skills and getting low-skill labour with the confidence that my career will progress and develop. It's difficult to succeed in the West when you are middle-aged with responsibilities. You have no idea of your friend's financial status yet you are demanding financial aid from him. In future don't seek advice. But the issues surrounding japa are quite enormous so I reached out to my friend to seek his advise, suggestions and possibly financial loan which I will pay back. He gave me some important reasons why I shouldn't migrate. He spoke about my age, no technical skill, finances, leaving known for unknown and difficulties faced by new comers in America. |

nairalanda1: We love imports, that's why.
We also have too many natural resources and we think that by selling them and sharing the money we can make enough
Also, the road to being a producer is a hard road. South Korea did it in a generation, but the generation that made the sacrifices suffered a lot as a result. (now they are old, and many of them don't live well). All industrial countries went through a prolonged period of hardship.
Nigerians that are suffering now don't want a leader to tell them that to become like China , Japan, Germany, or South Korea, they only need to work harder and suffer more for another generation. Sometimes you have to be forced to sacrifice, Tinubu had no choice but to remove oil subsidies because there was limited scope for borrowing due to the large debt and low FX reserve. Nigerians will also be force to produce due to the lack of funds to import another country hard work . |

The sad thing about Nigerians is that we love things to be cheap without thinking about how much it costs to make such things. Infact if Nigerians could get away with it, they would buy a brand new 2022 Toyota at N10000 per unit, because.
The thing is, corruption aside, we are not a rich nation. That ouil wey we dey shout about cannot sustain a nation of 20 million, talkless 200 million Nigeria.
Anyway, make una no dey argue with these people. Nigeria is a very rich country, blessed with young people, arable land and oil and gas, the problem is Nigeria's primitive culture and weak mentally. What is stopping Nigerians from producing? I have sent thousands of pounds to Nigerians to invest in a business but notice that they will waste it on living expense and ask for more. |

BoldBrainz: You cannot drastically reduce imports when you don't have locally produced alternatives to those import products you're cutting off.
Do you want to create chaos in a national dimension? What is even wrong with some of you? In the 1970s, the Indians and Chinese rode bicycles when the Nigerians were spending their Udogi award on imported Japanese cars; in 1980 the Indians and Chinese learnt to mass produce motorcycles, and today both China and India are two of the top automobile manufacturers in the world. Nigeria cannot fund imports anymore; the country has been mortgaged to the hilt and has large debt and low dollar exports. Nigerians have two choices start producing or do without. |

RepoMan007: The advise is not entirely bad if not for our deeprooted lack of production. With excess production, export would have earned us dollars to strengthen the naira. With local production of petrol and power, the need to import will be greatly reduced, and therefore the naira will be stronger making goods cheaper. They gave us half advise and left our lazy thinking leaders to figure out the rest but can they? But Nigeria is unproductive; the country produces nothing and at the same time, liberalised it markets which has opened the country to dumping of foreign goods. Even the USA has strict control over key industries such as AI, semiconductors and Genetic Engr, Dunlop Tyre which was established in Nigeria in 1961, was forced to relocate to Ghana due to low tariffs for imported tyres now, Nigeria doesn't have a single local tyre factory. Tinubu World Bank policies will ultimately fail. The company had suffered from inconsistent government tariff policies, some of which made nonsense of business plans predicated on production, a situation that placed importers of tyres at an advantage over genuine local manufacturers.
Though the company is yet to make its discussions with Edo State public, it has, however, intensified efforts to get technical partners.
In a notice to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Dunlop explained that a state government is setting up an industrial park, with provision for an automobile cluster and tyre manufacturing plant.
It is worthy of note that the company’s stock was last traded in October 2018, and has been labelled by NSE as Delisting In Progress (DIP) https://guardian.ng/business-services/dunlop-seeks-partners-to-return-to-nigeria/ |
