bloggernaija: I am surprised that the state has not limited access to social services to indigens.
Lagos state cannot continue to foot the bill for the entire country .
THE SW wants to send are nationals on pilot training programs and foriegn scholarships as well.
We cannot continue to carry other laggard states/regions on our back.
Lagos as it is, has over 1500 primary/secondary public schools.
That number is more than the no of school in any region of the country .
Many of the students are not even nationals of the SW ,Benin Kingdom,Edo state or citizens of Dahomey.
It is high time something is done about this situation.
A start will be for the FG to start deducting a percentage if the allocation given to states and regions with excessive numbers of migrants and handing same to enburdened states like Lagos .
As at 1994 ,over 1000 people a day were trooping into our little small island.
Only God knows what the nos are now with the reeking stench of fresh air polluting the country right now.

ba7man: I believe there's a thread on Nairaland highlighting Oshiomole's works.

The last time i was in Benin, there were so many on-going projects there, there were major hold-ups everywhere. I can testify to that. I also saw the mass transit buses he introduced.

He can be counted as one of the few Governors who's presence could be felt in his State.

Don't try to downplay his efforts because he belongs to an opposition party.
This was the SIMPLE question-statement I wrote:

Which 'Performance' is this one talking about? Apart from sm Roads and the Schools, can you point out which oda area Oshio has 'performed'? ie Name them!!!

ba7man: Well, how about the hundreds of Nigerian Politicians whose actions spell the same thing without them saying a word? We know they don't care, what have we done about it??

I was truely angry at Oshiomole's statement but in isolation, when you compare it to his performance as the State Governor, i can give him the benefit of a doubt.

Its the same way I'll cut the defenders of Stella Oduah some slack due to the fact that Enugu Airport gained international status under her watch was enough to turn them into her staunch supporters.
Which 'Performance' is this one talking about? Apart from sm Roads and the Schools, can you point out which oda area Oshio has 'performed'?? I am Surprised?? Resounding NO bi dat... Lagos State Govt does not fundamentally believe in the inalienable Rights of children of the POOR to quality education. If it were politically possible, LASG would have since declared Tuition Fees in its Public Secondary and Primary Schools, like it did in its State University- they they just recently introduced a new policy that would shrink its responsibility to Education in the State and drive many poor kids from its schools.

All na part of the INSENSITIVITY to the very poor by APC/ACN led State Govts in Lagos and the West. A previous Comment on this:

Switch to where? NO, he is an APC memba; a 'Progressive' Gov, through and through. APC (esp d former ACN component) is well known for its INSENSIVITY to d very poor; and for their HYPOCRISY too. Or is it not APC (ati ACN) that owns Lagos- for over 14 years now?

-- The same Lagos with the Highest Tution/School Fees in any Govt University in Nigeria, raising it in one fell sweep by over 400% from about #50,000 to bw #250,000-#300,000 per session in its State University, driving away a large No of people who cud not afford about HALF A MILLION in a year to attend a School owned by a Govt they pay their taxes to (the next State Univs with high fees are are mostly in Osun, Oyo, Ogun, etc- All controlled by ACN);

-- The same Lagos with practically d Single most Expensive Bed costs in any Govt Hospital in Nigeria (again, recently increased);

-- Lagos State has just recently began a not too subtle policy that wud drive more Indigent people from Govt's Secondary and Primary Schools, under d pretence that Students Must score a Minimum of 50% in Maths and English Or they should withdraw from School;

-- Lagos, the State with the largest No of Toll Gates in d country (by far), where people are expected to pay Tolls (sometimes up to 4 in a relatively short State Road) even when they already built d road tru Govt tax money, Or where people even pay Tolls for Roads not yet completed;

-- Lagos State that has driven Millions of poor people (both individuals and whole families- and this is no Exaggeration) from their Livelihoods and from the State, on d pretence of sanitizing and cleaning up the State (not a very bad reason on its self ordinarily) WHILE Party bigwigs, led by His Imperial Majesty Emperor Tinubu, buy up spaces for Real Estate and other purposes.

And so on, and so forth.......

Sincere 9gerian: They'r working on the road but the problem is that work is very slow. It is no where the speed of work on other SURE-P protects. Politics › Re: Dr Fashakin Arrested By SSS by taharqa: 2:35pm On Nov 29, 2013
take dat: Do you have a proof to show that he 'insulted' the President? Why are folks like you interested in promoting this growing culture of intolerance, a culture where debates and dissents are frowned upon, a culture of concordance, a culture where second opinions are discouraged? We are no longer in a military era, and you should know that our democracy is evolving, more Nigerians are becoming aware of their right to express their views. Because OBJ who happened to be a militrician in agbada got away with illegalities does not mean GEJ should do the same, after all, he rode to power under the euphoria of transformation/fresh air.

Yes, it is morally binding on us all to respect the office of the president but I have not seen anywhere in the constitution where it is stated that, it is a criminal offense to insult the honor and prestige of the president. So on what legal basis was the man arrested supposing he insulted the president?

Jonathan voluntarily decided for vie for the presidency, no one forced him except for sycophants. Besides he is well renumerated/compensated for doing or not doing his job. The real people who gets insulted daily are the average Nigerians whose wealth/resources the killers of dreams and marauders of aspirations in government plunder and pillage on a daily basis, yet we(average Nigerians) have no SSS, EFCC or NPF to arrest them.
Do you have proof that the man was 'arrested' because he 'insulted' the President??

I'll wait for Dino Melaye, Wole Soyinka and other civil right activists to make their comments or I'll end up assuming that the civil society have actually sold their conscience to APC. Education › Re: Breaking: Go Ahead And Sack Us - ASUU by taharqa: 1:11am On Nov 29, 2013
take dat: Forget any silly intelligence report. After the NEC meeting of ASUU, we were told that 60% of the striking lecturers/university chapters are in support of calling off the strike provided government is able to meet their new requests/conditions. So its public knowledge that ASUU is willing to call off the strike.

The FG is trying to employ the usual tactics of divide and conquer, the same tactic successive governments have used in dividing the people of Nigeria for their personal gains. So trying to break the ranks of ASUU or any other labor union is not new.

Why is government afraid to implement ASUU's new resolutions? The sack threat is a display of insensitivity and against the principle of public bargaining. ASUU already submitted the resolutions from their NEC meeting to the FG and they are waiting for a planned meeting with the President, so why is government after waiting for 5 months threatening to sack lecturers when the President is yet to grant them audience as promised? The biggest problem is that of heavy mistrust, ASUU is only being cautious by demanding that the President and top Government functionaries commit themselves to the new agreement in writing. ASUP and other bodies who called off their strikes are already issuing new ultimatums because the government is yet to fulfill the agreements made months after such were reached. I insist that Government is not a victim here and ASUU is not entirely right with her approach, display of brute force from government will not yield any positive result.
I just watched the Min of Education on NTA 4 O'Clock News and hv now got a hold of the NEW DEMANDS/CONDITIONS of ASUU (at least according to Govt):
1. ASUU wants the Govt to find d sum of #200bn and then pay that sum into an Account with d Central Bank WITHIN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS, which is supposed to be meant as d Infrastructural Fund Commitment FOR NEXT YEAR 2014 (yea, you heard me right- #200bn in 2 weeks at once for 2014, even when d 2014 budget hasn't been passed);
2. That Govt should RENEGOTIATE the 2009 Agreement with them BEFORE (sic?) they call-off the strike (that's right: Another round of Negotiations after they just had a 13 hours meetings with d President himself, a renegotiation that may possibly bring up other disagreements and so may extend the possibity of ending the strike in weeks or even months);
3. That d Attorney-General should sign the Letter, not d Permanent Secretary (I don't personally see anything wrong with this particular Condition sha).
Then, I also read that ASUU is asking d FG to pay them for d 3-4months they didn't work; but not just that, they insisted that Govt should pay them this money BEFORE they call-off the strike and that it must paid as a LUMP sum to them!! Imagine that.

All these Ridiculous Conditions even after a Majority of yr Lecturers/Congresses already voted and asked you to call-off d Strike!!!!..... And later someone wud tell me that POLITICS has not entered d matter
