eldoradoxx: The plot is aimed at crippling GEJ's presidency for stealing their birthright, can't you understand it ! The leaders of North are united in this !
But some of those northern leaders assisted GEJ in securing votes in the 2011 elections. The truth is, some Northern leaders and FG are all playing politics with this menace. The NSA, Sambo Dasuki once claimed to have contacts of the BH leaders. Someone influential with connection to BH must have provided him with such. The FG has got all the political instruments to bring the menace to a halt, even if it includes patronage and reaching an agreement with the other party. What Nigerians demand from the Government is an end to the genocidal menace and not who and who are against the president.

Sincere 9gerian: Some are comparing Buhari and the current vice president, Sambo. That is mischievous because Sambo does not have even 1% of the sort of following Buhari commands in the north.

In my opinion, the day the leaders of the north, Buhari inclusive, unite against Boko haram, that will mark the end of Boko haram. For now, they'r playing cat and mouse with boko haram. Force and JTF appear to be the only available option for now.
Jonathan as well did not command the following of the likes of Alams, Ibori and co in the ND before he was able to broker the amnesty deal. All he did was to reach out to those with enormous clout. Has GEJ explored that option with Sambo, giving him all the necessary backing to comb all the nooks and crannies of the affected states, seeking for would be collaborators in the fight against BH. Won't GEJ stretch out a hand of friendship to some northerns leaders that'll help him secure votes whenever he declares his 2015 ambition? Why can't he reach out to them now?

taharqa: Who is blackmailing who, plz? Oh! You meant this response of d Govt to Gen Buhari? Well, d good Gen askd for it! Was he not just reportd to hv said that ND militants were same as BH chaps? Isn't that ridiculous. Its almost like saying that Militant ACP (or even PAC) is d same as Alqueida cos both employ Violence. Does dat mk any sense to you? Gen Buhari may not yet realise hw DAMAGING that statement of his realli is or wud be in his future...... Anyway, you are right: BOTH d Govt and Odas shld stop playing politics and playing to d gallery on dis issue, b4 we are all dead. BOTH shld keep dier mouths SHUT..
Is this the first time this government would be blackmailing those critical of r? This government is not only hopeless but also insensitive, GEJ swore to protect the lives and properties of citizens. Isn't it his responsibility to prosecute whoever tries to incite some misguided folks to take up arms against the government like Okupe is trying to paint Buhari. But no, they would rather abdicate their responsibility to the person they claim is responsible for the insurgency. The solution to this BH menace is not germane to the parties involved, rather they've turned it into an avenue to score cheap political point but the onus still falls on the FG to live up its responsibility of securing the lives and properties of the citizens instead of this attitude of bersmirching those who hold a contrary view.
Politics › Re: Okupe To Buhari - Persuade Boko-Haram To Accept Dialogue by takedat(m): 11:34pm On Apr 02, 2013
@Taharqa, is it by blackmailing northern leaders on the pages of newspapers that would make them join the government in defeating BH? Has Buhari ever come out to plead for amnesty on behalf of the faceless terrorists known to government according to the NSA who once claimed he has their contacts? I agree that some Northern leaders are using this BH menace to achieve political scores , the FG is also using the same to gain sympathy. They both do not want an end to it for political reasons. GEJ still remains the C-in-C, he cannot continue to buck pass his responsibility to others.

Cheap blackmail and tissues of lies from an habitual liar who speaks on behalf of a government that is pathologically incapable of accepting responsibility. If there are concrete evidence that he is behind the BH scourge, why not prosecute him instead of this campaign of calumny, looking for a fall guy? Is Government trying to abdicate her responsibility of securing lives and properties to the Same Buhari who is accused of being behind the menace? Okupe should tell Nigerians if it was Buhari who granted the likes of Ndume bail, and if he is the reason why Modu Sherrif still remains a free man? Why not send his deputy(Sambo) to do the same just as Yaradua did with him in brokering peace with the ND militants?

Violence only aggravates the problem and not an effective way to solve problems, but I'll rather wait to read the counter accusation and what the other party has got to say. The journalist who reported this news, Vincent Ujumadu is an Igbo man and this report doesn't look balanced, more of a one-sided report with bias, aimed at driving sympathy the way of the Igbo community. I may be wrong thoughgrin.

Its just a matter of time before GEJ declares the offer of amnesty to those insurgents.

Maxymilliano: One would have expected that with the clout that names like Gen Buhari, Nasir El-Rufai, IBB, AbdulSalam Abubakar, Adamu Ciroma, Tanko Yakassai, Lawan Kaita, Nuhu Ribdu, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi & other Leaders from Northern Nigeria control there, they would have by now been able to use the cult-like follower-ship they enjoy to open communication channels with Boko Haram, Ansaru and other militant groups in that region towards having these group enter into direct peace talks with the Federal Government of Nigeria just as names like Alamieyeseigha, J.P. Clark, etc did with the Niger Delta crises that eventually led to the "Niger Delta Amnesty Programme" and of course brokered under a President from Northern Nigeria.

So why can't these Northern Leaders reciprocate this gesture by brokering possible peace in the North under the leadership of a President from the South-south?

Why did Gen Buhari quickly wash his hands off the possibility of representing the country in talks with Boko Haram?

How come these leaders from the North only seem eager to be "Leaders" when:

1. seeking electoral positions;

2. seeking for the Presidency to be returned to them;

3. they want to threaten that "the country would become ungovernable if they don't achieve the above but shy away from the basic responsibility of having their people live in peace and be saved from imminent extinction?

And please don’t tell me – “but they are not the President and Chief Security Officer of the country” because Alamieyeseigha and J.P Clark, and others were also not Presidents as well when they brokered the Niger Delta Peace talks.
Why can't GEJ do the same with his deputy, what Yaradua did with him? After all, we all knew how Yaradua gave him all the necessary backing before he was able to broker the amnesty deal with the help of Clark, Alams and co, or is the president wary of his deputy's ambition if given such task?

It is not true that the government does not have open communication channels with BH. Remember Dasuki, the NSA once claimed to have contacted some BH leaders and we've also read of several surreptitious move by government for a dialogue with BH.

If you were Buhari, so you would have accepted the role of a mediator when prior to that some Nigerians had a widely held, erroneous ideas about him being their kingpin courtesy of the falsehood peddlers in PDP. Even a dumb Jona wouldn't fall for the bait!

The Northern politicians and the FG are all using the lives of innocent Nigerians in the north "to play kite."

Politics › Re: Corruption In Nigeria: Is It Reducing Or Increasing? by takedat(m):
Corruption is a complex issue with a vast array of determinants. Based on the latest rating of gallup poll and transparency international, corruption seem to be on the increase especially political corruption and bureaucratic corruption.

Secondly, your post is only centred on the federal level leaving out the state and local government levels where corruption is also institutionalised.
Inflation of contracts and ambiguous overheads still prevails even at the federal level. Can you honestly say that the amount voted for capital expenditure is proportionate to the projects being executed? The performance on capital project for 2012 stood at 40%.

Lastly, the president's cavalier attitude towards the fight against corruption is discouraging especially, the latest "PARDONGATE" and him keeping cabinet members with allegations of financial impropriety hanging on their heads. The judiciary is corrupt with all the two-for-one-kobo and get-out-of-jail card convictions, we have a national assembly of corruption and the anti-graft agencies are toothless. In fact, corruption is the 37th state of the federation.

Another brewing "Wayo" in Papa Deceive Pikin(PDP)! PDP is in a state of flux, and the on-going war of attrition is due to the president's unbridled lust for power. The president himself is unconvinced that his "transformation agenda" has yielded much dividend otherwise, I see no reason why he should be scared of other bog-standard, run-of-the-mill candidates in the primaries. Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, after all, Of what good is a united PDP to Nigerians?

Politics › Re: Jonathan’s Scorecard Ready, 9 Ministers Face Sack by takedat(m):
Why Should the president retain non-performing ministers in office till May, scheming and milking the nation's blood and marrow when they can easily be discarded now? Well, Nigerians are not concerned with the performance contracts of the ministers but that of the president, and he can continue to dawdle till he's ousted in 2015 for non-performance. His passivity is due to lack of political will in curtailing patronage!
