Like I said to another poster, cooking is a skill, just like driving. Some people are good at it, others will always always make a mess of it.

When I talked about childhood, I meant it was the best time to learn how to cook, ie for those willing to learn.

There are many things you don't learn from just your parents, cooking is one of them.

My mom is good a cook, but I beat her hands down when it comes to cooking. She taught me what she know and I dug deeper and now I cook soups that she doesn't even know exist, why? Because I kept learning, so I never assumed that cooking is hereditary.

Cooking isn't like a driving skill, so many people will never drive a car in their entire life but they eat at least two times a day.
You need food to survive, so cooking is a basic something. Don't compare with driving.

Now talking about being a bad cook because you're surrounded by bad cooks or because your mom is a bad cook. You're just making excuses.

If you're willing to learn, you will best those around you.

How?

You eat out occasionally and you eat at your friends house. Anytime a person willing to learn tastes a nice food, s/he will ask "how do you make it"

I am sure they will tell you and you will learn if indeed you're willing.

This is not true. My roommate in university was a perfect example. She was very willing to learn, but she never got it right. She would put everything in the food, yet na nonsense be the outcome.
