The calls are part of the carefully laid out Roadmap to re-contesting and involves the well entrenched plague called sychophancy in our country. The sychophants are oftentimes arranged by those who are undeservedly benefiting financially or otherwise from the Government in power. It will eventually be a case of "I didn't want to contest again. It was because people cried out for me to contest that made me declare". I have no issues with him contesting for 2015. All I want is that the elections should be free & fair and people should be left to decide whether he is worth voting for again or not. I doubt that it will be that way. |
Some of you say that International Airlines should only be allowed to fly into two cities? and why is that? you say because local airlines will become dead. Do you mean that the only people that fly local airlines are those who are connecting to another Nigerian city to get on an international flight? Hence, if they stop connecting, then local airlines will become dead? Please grow up!! Nigeria has a large enough population for domestic traffic to sustain its domestic airlines. It is the inefficiencies, corruption, lack of vision of most of those in power, the high cost of doing business in Nigeria and high fares that make our domestic airlines not to work. Majority of Nigerians who travel by road domestically could have traveled by Air if things were right with our economy and the airline industry. If you live in Abuja or PH or Sokoto (as examples) and fly into Lagos from a specific international flight such as Emirates, you know how difficult the experience is to transfer to a domestic flight successfully with your luggage and get you to your final destination. You might even have to spend a night in Lagos depending on when the international flight arrives Lagos. It is even worse when you are flying out as you need to get on a domestic flight earlier than necessary to get you to Lagos before you take your international flight, otherwise, you could miss the international flight due to many different useless reasons given by the domestic airlines. Some of you say that other countries restrict the number of cities that airlines fly into, but do you realise that many airlines fly into multiple destinations in other countries? It is all about Bilateral Services agreement. BA flies into many US cities and if the US airlines want to fly into many UK cities, I suppose they can. |
Asorock 1: Thanks so much SOTAJ, I will request for a scan copies as that will be faster for me, You mean you've used scan copies and the visa was grantedI have always scanned copies, emailed to my family members and visa was granted. The latest one being last August. I have never sent any document by hard copy mail or courier. |
Bilateral air agreement is signed and some of you are acting like its the best thing in the aviation sector! Some are even praising the same Minister who is under investigation for car acquisition! It beats my imagination at how such little things which don't even get mentioned in a small column in newspapers in developed society make headline news in Nigeria. No wonder we are still in the state that we are!! If we get our acts together, we won't need to go asking anyone for bilateral air agreement. They will come to us to sign it. |
Toks2008: You can only heal if you find another person to fill the space and i mean someone worth it else you are bound to continue sulking.Good point but resist rushing into another relationship immediately. Sometimes, people do so because they want to show that they can easily find someone else after being heartbroken and then they end up with another person who will break their heart again! |
My advice is that she should find something to do or start something new or find a new hobby that will occupy her mind. If she isn't occupied, she will spend time thinking about him and the situation and that will further depress her. No checking of his Facebook or his twitter page if he has one as that will bring back memories. |
So only when infrastructure rot and decay are exposed, does the Government react? It is clear that we are a reactive country and thrive on corrective maintenance than preventive maintenance. |
If anyone is thinking of Liechtenstein on that list, then you better think twice. I've visited there and don't know on what basis one can just go and live in that country or how you can survive there. You say Switzerland is expensive, then try Liechtenstein. To get in or out of that country without driving in from say Austria, you need to take the train from Zurich, get off at Sargans and take a bus to Vaduz. The country is very tiny with a small population and nearly every commercial building is or has an investment bank. Even Europeans or Americans hardly relocate there except they are very skilled investment bankers. Oh, I forgot...do you speak German?? |
pappythinko: It does not make good sense to move abroad when you have a well paying job in Naija, that would be a disaster. Make God answer my prayers sharperly, I dnt knw why the rate of unemployment is growing in leaps n bounds in our country when other countries only have less than 10% of unemployed populace. It make good sense to some and I'm one of such. I left a well paying and great job in Nigeria and got a well paying and great job here in the UK, so it doesn't always result in a disaster. Just relocate legally. |
braine: Lol• But why would you employ an Electrician for something you probably could have done yourself•Some electrical work can't necessarily and shouldn't be done DIY. Leave such for the experts even if it costs much. |
justwise: I doubt that will work as they are not allowed to take foreign trip during that periodWell, I didn't even think about that. |
mizztee: Na wa o! So there's no hope at all? He's not absconding, I just want some family at Christmas.....If the application proceeds, perhaps it may be necessary to briefly state why he did not use his last visa. Basically, if I were the one, I would write something in this line.....the passport was received too late for him to attend the graduation and he didn't want to travel on that visa for any other purpose than it was intended for (especially if they annotated on the visa that he was attending a graduation). If NYSC was not ending before he proceeds for the next trip, it would have been less of a worry as he would have provided his NYSC deployment letter (if given) and a letter from his place of assignment indicating that he works there on an NYSC basis and would finish his assignment at a certain date. Otherwise, It is looking difficult now as proving that he will return would be a challenge. It is understandable that you want to have family with you at Christmas but if it doesn't feel right to apply now, it may be better to leave it until when the chances are higher (when he at least gets a good job). It may work out in his favour now if he applies and he gets the visa or he may risk it and be refused which would jeopardise his chances of getting a visa for a while. Note that some other embassies ask if you have ever been refused a visa by any other country, so a refusal now may potentially also affect getting visas for certain countries in future. |
freechat: Am sure that would-be father-in-law is also a writer. Honestly, it's fun! The old man is not asking for too much. First, he needs to be convinced that the young man really loves his daughter. Second, he probably wants to test the literary prowess of would-be son-in-law. freechat: First, he needs to be convinced that the young man really loves his daughter. Can't he gauge if the guy loves his daughter from the numerous exposures he has had with the guy? Mere writing that you love someone does not actually mean that love the person as much. Actions speak louder than words. freechat: Second, he probably wants to test the literary prowess of would-be son-in-law.He could be playing into the hands of the guy if he actually knows how to write. Or is he looking for a co-author to a new book he is writing? ![]() |
There will be an outcome and I'm curious what it will be if he does write the essay. Deny the guy marriage to his daughter if he is not satisfied with the essay or allow it to proceed if he is satisfied? |
tosingcfr: would it be formal or informal letterAn essay is hardly informal |
kika41: thank you very much,m grateful...but as u said u are in the industry....I asked another guy who is a senior project manager for Total,he graduated from unilag,nd he said that Unilag and uniport gradz are most embraced in the oil and gas industry in respect to '''petroleum engineering""...plz make me understand better!!When did Unilag start petroleum Engineering that its Pet Engine grads would be more embraced in Oil and Gas industry? I suppose he meant Unilag Engineering grads who I believe abound in the Oil & Gas industry, but that is no different from the numerous Engineering grads from Uniben and also uniport who work in the Oil and gas industry. |
Siena: The very notion of using both feet when driving an automatic is plain absurd. Those who drive automatics (as a preference over manuals) do so because of the freedom it offers. Automatics are nowhere near as reliable as manuals. So why pay the extra, buy an automatic, if you're not going to drive it as one? This sums it up! Really absurd to drive an automatic with both feet. |
If you have updated to IOS7 and want to prevent the first security risk from occurring, do the following: Go to "Settings" > "Control Center". Disable "Access on lock screen". This will ensure that there is no unauthorised access when your screen is locked. I have done it on my iphone 5 and it works. |
I upgraded to IOS 7 and it was one of the first things I noticed about the new functionality in lock mode. How could Apple testers not realise that after months of testing? Leopantro: are you sure they are flaws or were intentionally done? so anyone ( including NSA) can get access to your finger print if you know how. no wonder the Germans were advocating that no one working in sensitive government facilities should get the new iphone.Fingerprint is only applicable to the Iphone5s but you can upgrade iphone5 and some other iphones to IOS7. So it is not so much about NSA access. However, fingerprint technology could be risk if someone can access your fingerprint from a database and somehow use it on your device. |
Complete waste of public funds. Someone has created a useless need somewhere and another one has been given the contract to buy those phones. Do they not all already have one or more phones and can simply switch sims when they get to Saudi? |
Kudos to all those who have defended being black as not something to despise. Now you imagine or wonder how Caucasians feel when they see someone black, especially in countries or regions where they rarely see black people. |
MiguelMi6: South Africa still discussing in parliament.Bet you,Nigeria takes action immediately, one would expect when UK introduced theirs,South Africa implement compulsory visa application. Its not that easy to do reciprocal action immediately. Nigeria loses nothing much by reciprocal action as contributions to the economy from tourism is next to nil. A UK business man intent on visiting Nigeria will pay a bond if necessary. On the other hand, reciprocal action may not be good for the economy of SA which has tourism as one of its contributors to GDP. Visa requirements do no good to tourism. Why would you bother going to a country where you need to apply for visa, when you can just buy a ticket and off you go to another country where you don't need visa? Most UK citizens only need to buy a ticket and off they go to many countries! |
The SA response to this seems to be a wise one. According to the report, "The Republic of South Africa intends to introduce visa requirements for diplomatic and official passport holders of the United Kingdom". It means that ordinary passport holders from the UK can still visit SA and since many of them go there for holidays, introducing visas for them may dissuade these group of people from visiting with the implication that SA loses tourism funds. Restricting visas to diplomats and officials means they get to bear the brunt of the UK's decision and not the ordinary UK citizen. |
cheapgadgets6: did I hia u say difficult to rid,den u dnt send txt msgs...dey are evridae shrt frms u cm across(op u aint tryin to tackl me bro..abeg o)I'm not trying to tackle you. Well, I usually don't need to send really shortened text messages as I get unlimited text messages once I pay my monthly fee. So, I can send as many as I want. For international, I mostly make calls home and don't text that much. At most, I write You as U. |

Kanwulia: Instead of 'percolating' on NL like a BURNT coffee-pot, why not get with other parents and validate or in-validate you observation?Nairaland is an entertainment forum?? There is an entertainment section in Nairaland and that section is just a fraction of the site. How else can the OP get views from a diverse audience if not from such a place as Nairaland. |
Believe13: @justwise. Pls can i submit an unsigned invitation letter to UK embassy? Letter was sent via email. It should have been signed, scanned and sent through email. That is how I send invitation letters to relatives and they get visas. I believe that the purpose of a signature is that the UKBA can validate the signature against what they have for the individual in file. Otherwise, anyone can send invitation letter or use someones else's documents unauthorised to apply for visa. have you looked at it from that perspective? |
Emmafrancis: Nobody is mentioning MARINE ENGINEERING. Its as important if not more than othersLOL. But the thread is not about marine engineering and most engineering schools in Nigerian Universities don't offer marine engineering. So knowledge about it is limited. By the way, how is marine engineering more important that others? ![]() If there is no electrical, mechanical, civil, production, etc how will a ship (including its engines & Rudders) be constructed? ![]() If there is no petroleum & chemical engineering, how will the ship move from point A to B? ![]() |
In my days, nursery school was very simple and by all means I wasn't disadvantaged later in life and have successfully worked in large international companies. What about Outdoor kindergarten in germany? Yet, German economy is doing well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_kindergarten |
Sodiq3: Hey pals,am studying Hausa language in one of nigeria prestigious federal university.so i want to ask if i have any prospect in the oil and gas industry..what if i go for master in islamic religious study, hope that would give me an edge over the engineering graduates?reply asap..You could well be useful for language translation if Nigeria continues with prospecting for oil & gas in Chad basin! ![]() |
penzino: Bro, its good u applied for chemical engineering. Chemical engineering is like a parent course where petroleum, biomedical, reservoir, environmental and genetic engineering all fall under... Study ur chemical engineering and then in ur 2nd degree u could just choose a field under the entire chemical engineering... All the best, I studied chemical engine but I wan do petroleum econs for masters. All za best bro.Chemical Engineering is not a parent course for all those courses you mentioned. I'm not aware where you got your facts from. Firstly, Reservoir engineering is a sub-area of petroleum engineering. Petroleum Engineering is primarily sub-surface and concerned with getting the crude oil and gas to the surface where it is then sent for processing or export and it is in processing that the chemical Engineers come into play in the oil and gas sector (Refineries, LNG plants, processing plants, etc). While Petroleum Engineering is more streamlined to a specific industry - Oil & Gas, chemical engineering is broader and its graduates can work in many industries. You may narrow your future possibilities if you study petroleum engineering but it could well pay off if it goes right and whereas, You can still work in some other jobs if you make a Second Class Upper or a 1st. I studied Petroleum Engineering and made a 2:1 but got employed in Consulting (focused on IT) right after graduation some time ago and have never looked back and have no regrets especially as I mostly work in top Oil & Gas companies here and did back in Nigeria in consulting roles. Nearly all my classmates who made 2:1 or 1st and even many with 2:2 work as PEs in Oil & Gas or Service companies. Some went on to do masters overseas and got good jobs there and even back home. |
