For official help with settling down, check www.direct.gov.uk. It contains many links to important information including NI, Driving, Tax, Electoral roll, GP registration, e.t.c. @Busy_body, Permit me to follow @Komekn to hail you. Wetin you do fit reach make them deny person ILR if them catch am! I guess say you get "Pali" so that side no reach you. Dat na conviction straight, disqualification from driving for some time, with fine and penalty points on licence when you never even get! . But seriously, you should consider getting a full licence. Use the DSA CD-Rom and you will pass the theory test like a breeze. It was very useful to me as I got perfect scores in the multiple choice and near perfect scores in harzard perception test. The practical test shouldn't be difficult for you since you have been driving here. Just do a few lessons with an instructor to give you tips and you will be fine. Congrats in advance of passing your theory and practical test! |
tos:Neither will (for instance) stating over £1000 on your application form that you will be spending within a period of about 2 weeks also give you the visa. You may be denied on the basis of the amount you put! The thinking could be that why would someone who earns about £250 a month want to spend about or over 4 times that amount in about 2 weeks? That is already about 4 months salary. It may make sense to you as we know that Nigerians usually save a lot of money to use or spend when they travel, but it will not make sense to the Officers who assess your application. @TOS, He could be an ardent saver and has saved up N600k from his N58k/month over a relatively short period. Or he may have started saving over a long period until now. Have you not worked with colleagues who earned a similar salary as you, but have saved up over 2 or 3 times your savings? I have seen it before! |
tos:I quite agree with most of what you posted. I also need to point out that the professional UK workplace is a little different from others and so a comparison with what takes place in the U.S environment may not be appropriate. I have found that people here appear to be more sensitive to team bonding and will continue to repeat it in different ways and actions when they think you are not bonding. It doesn't negate the fact that one participates in many activities with them, but they give more weight to certain activities and I realise that going to the pub is one such activity. It is usual of Nigerians not to want to go to the pub with them as it may be uninteresting to you if you don't drink, or consider it unreligious to be near alcohol and sometimes their jokes and discussions may also not be of interest. My general advice in this matter is that it is not a wrong thing to follow your mind, but flexibility can be exercised in some regards. In addition, we may have to go out of our way to do things in some instances. As for some of the carribean folks, we Nigerians and them are like Oil and water!. We do not mix. |
SAM MILLA:There is party! In Geneva, its very central. |
I don't live in Canada and cannot verify any claim. However, this website says it all. Definitely, Britain, U.S.A and Australia are more welcoming to immigrants in the job market. http://www.notcanada.com/ |
I can quite understand how you feel. I have not had such problems largely because I speak clearly, though, there are few times where I have had to repeat what I said. I am also capable of speaking with a clear British accent when really necessary. You are right that there are several people from the areas that you mentioned who do not even speak as clearly as the average Nigerian. We were once in a social outing and I found myself echoing every word that a Scottish person was saying so that the Slovenian (who did speak good English) amongst us could understand, as the person was finding it difficult to comprehend the "Scottish english". The Scottish person had to say that it was an irony that I was the one assisting the Slovenian to understand English as mine was clearer. Do not worry about your colleagues. If you don't have the problem with your Supervisor, then don't bother yourself much. In some establishments, You will find that there is this subtle discrimination also to those from the North of England and Scotland that is similar to what you face, because of their accents. It is even career limiting for them and you find out that most people who are from those areas of the UK and get to senior executive positions in London, speak English like those from the south. |
I am not quite sure he has made much positive impact to SA. There is no point having him stay as the Leader. |
Ask @Mpele why his country's comrades are doing what they have done to this man's family. |
I thought @bigmodo was already on the streets of NY as a black american and possibly blinged up? Only for me to check and see that as at Tuesday 9th sept, he was still looking for a majic mat or stick to use to fly to New York. So please if you know of one or have one, contact him! |
![]() Are you not aware that they repeat service? lol. or maybe she is posting on behalf of someone else as many usually claim. |
Reasons? 1. We have a long standing historical connection with the UK. 2. The UK is one of the countries with the highest number of Nigerians living outside the shores of the country. 3. There are various clear and established means to visit, study, work or live in the country. 4. English is the spoken Language in the UK 5. The UK appears to be more considerate in giving visas than several countries and if visa is refused, there is also a second chance via the appeal system for certain categories of visa applications (and the appeal is usually objective and is independent). |
I am really worried about the mindset of many people in the current generation of Nigerians. I thought that this nonsense called tribal sentiments should be off our radars now. It appears that we still have people that would not see it out of their minds in their lifetime. Would you rather have someone from your tribe that makes no impact as a Leader or have someone from another tribe that makes positive impact on the lives of the Nigerian people? |
zoomzu:If your intention is to give it out free of charge, then that is a good thing. However, the title of your post says: UK Visiting Visa Invitation - Strictly Business . Now something that is Strictly business would mean that there is some financial deal involved. So I will suggest that you do not include such a word in a similar post in future. |
I am not aware that the US. have schemes where skilled people can migrate based on points like Canada, UK and Australia have. Usually people work in the US using H1B visas in which case an Employer files for the visa for you if they are very much interested in your skills (even if you are resident in Nigeria, but not very common since you are not present there). Another way is company transfer to the US, if your company is an international one and they wish to transfer you. Otherwise you might consider going for a Masters over there and hope to get a job afterwards and an employer files a visa for you. Finally, the good old visa lottery is an option! |
Its difficult to say that you should migrate. As @incagold had mentioned, you need to have transferable skills. Check for roles in websites in the UK and see if there are clear opportunities available for the kind of role you currently hold. If yes, then that is a good start. You can then consider applying for HSMP. Note that you could get a job in your field, but may not be paid as much as those with UK or European experience. Relocating is a high risk and you should be ready to bear it. Now, what is important to you? if you want an environment without much hassles of living, then it may be worthwhile taking a risk. If you care about having excess cash, then you may not get it here because after paying your mortgage, you may not have much left. But remember that at the end of the day, the house is yours. Some of us took the risk and left high paying jobs and it paid off and our standards of living have not depreciated in anyway. |
The fact that you have invitations from the school for graduation does not automatically entitle people to visas. So you want to sell the invitation letters to people that are not related to you for them to use and apply for visas? If so then damn! This is outright crooked! What else is left for the UK Embassy to experience from some of you? |
ife-eco-06:@ife-eco-06, maybe you should read the paragraph in totality rather than a part of it. Nothing much to say about this incident. Its a pity he is a Lawmaker! @Jakumo, better hide well well! If you need more Duvets, I will send to you! |
All these lies and lies and lies! When are folks going to stop? That is why they don't even believe people anymore when they present genuine documents and have good travel intentions. |
I have checked KLM and BA websites and both are over £1000. |

Today, I have successfully cooked Egusi Soup! Thanks to recipe provide by @Stillwater, I was able to cook a pot of Egusi soup. I once tried without guidance during my University days and the result was nothing to write home about. Since then, I gave up. Today, i finally summoned courage and searched for egusi soup in Nairaland and the result is shown below. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Sorry, pictures not too sharp as I had to resize them. |
or is it 2009 budget? anyway, Budget has never been taken seriously. Na today? |
pearlyseed:It is the usual thing that happens when you complain about the absurd things that go on in our country. They simply castigate you that you should come up with solutions. Is refuse management Rocket science that you need a nerd to come up with solutions? Have you not seen where options or solutions are provided to us and we do not use them or we convert them to something else or a den for evil things? Even when dustbins were provided in Lagos danfos, people still threw things out of the window. If you are driving a private car, why shouldn't you leave the rubbish in the car and throw it in the bin when you arrive your destination. Afterall, there is usually a bin close to the gate of most houses especially in Lagos and you can throw the refuse as soon as you get to the house or office. Yet people throw things out of moving cars because they do not want to keep their cars dirty! Do something in your own little way to make things better and we can't! The place at Obalende garage where the flyover takes you to third mainland bridge where people sit on the bridge railing and pass faeces (that the poster described) is the most disgusting place I have ever seen in my life! It can make someone throw up. Faeces have mounted and formed some sort of aggregation of anthill looking mounds that are as high as 4 metres! Go and provide mobile toilets and see if people will use them properly or use them at all. hanen:Perfect writing! |
Resign! |
tochito:I am also very angry too! Of course you can travel to Italy and China Visa free! Who dares to contradict your claims? You want to know how? Travel by road to Libya (pray you survive the trip) and then cross to sicily in Italy with 50 others in an overnight and overcrowded canoe or whatever you call it (which is actually meant to carry only 15 people). Then risk being detained in Libya by Ghadaffi's boys, drowning or dumped in the sea close to your destination by your traffickers! Next? Congrats you succeeded in arriving Italy. Then you are fed up and want to get to China visa free? very easy! Take a boat and cross to Albania and then move east to Greece. Make sure you rest very well in Greece before continuing your trip. Next, find your way to Europe's Turkey. At instabul, cross over to Asia Turkey and continue. Are you getting tired? No way! Your journey is not far again as you are now in Asia and China is also in Asia! Next, as I don't want you to be caught up in the war in Georgia, i would advise you go through Iran! At Iran, find your way to Turkmenistan, then uzbekistan, Tajikistan, kyrgyzstan and alas, you are in China. If you don't want to pass through several 'stans, you can go from Turkmenistan into Afghanistan and then China. I would suggest that this second option is a better route. Have a safe trip and let me know when you arrive China! |
Hell yes! ![]() Have had a loved one who was cremated and ashes transported to another country for burial according to wishes. |
As for the pay, it depends on your current financial commitments. If they are not too high, PWC will be best for you at this stage because of the knowledge and exposure you will gain. For Professionalism, it should be better than the banks. For career advancement, i think it is pretty much straightforward if you deliver on your tasks at the right time. After a few years of PWC experience and with the Brand name, you can change industry and will get a really good offer. |
My car manual says not to idle the car. Drive off immediately. |
I would say that you probably have a much higher chance of getting the US visa than the Canadian visa. The Canadians have gone haywire and do not even see any previous travels you have made as a significant reason to give you a visa. They are simply difficult and rigid. It seems like you are going on a tourist visit to the US and the other option is the conference. you really need to convince them that you are not going to stay back in the US, as by Law on application, you are automatically deemed to be an intending immigrant! If it is for a conference, it really needs to be something that will add value to you and your future and you will have explanations to do to the Visa officer. You would need to be truthful to them as they have seen a lot of tactical attempts to get visas and are greatly experienced. |
