TravelRe: Why Will Anyone In His/her Right Senses Want To Vacate Nigeria To Live In The Uk by Tats(m): 11:43pm On Oct 13, 2009
At least I can wake up at 1 am and drive to Tesco to shop without any fear! grin grin

Life is full of compromises, so it depends on what is important to you/your family.
Firstly, not everyone face joblessness, loneliness, e.t.c like you seem to suggest. If you are lonely, I suggest you spend your sunday around peckham market. grin grin. If you work fulltime from monday to Friday, you should be looking forward to resting during the weekend, visiting friends, going to church (if applicable) e.t.c. Afterall also, Lebara and phone card never finish! So you can jist with Family and friends back home.

You can be in naija and have millions in your account or be here and have only a few hundreds or thousands in your account and enjoy the facilities that this place provides. Whatever is priority for you or of importance. You can earn much and pay through your nose to have your kids go to Private schools in Nigeria or you can have them go to very good state schools here for virtually free if you live in a good area. Its all your choice. I dont mind the about 6 months of freezing weather, cos at least i can pad myself. I prefer it to heat. Is it all the time that I am outside during the cold weather?

Anyway, why you come back here sef?
TravelRe: 'UK Border Force' On Sky1 by Tats(m): 11:23pm On Oct 13, 2009
In the second episode yesterday, there was a Naija guy in Glasgow who was caught with an S.A. passport in his house. He claimed it was not his and the picture in it was not him. The immigration lady told him that she can see the same mark on his face in the picture in the passport and he was still denying it. He was eventually jailed for 4 months for the fake passport.

That Ukranian girl was very bold not to have taken them to her house, else about 8 people would have been deported.

The "Babcock lecturer" was very dumb. He responded that there were 50 people in the university!!! huh huh

The Overstayer who returned to naija with his wife was very lucky. He told the truth and was eventually given the visa to go back to the UK. The way the interview was going, I sensed that he will be given

As for Rachel, I admire her a lot, especially after hearing that she did very well at college and her friends say that though she was a tomboy and hardly had any "toasters", she's fun and had many friends. Bookies a\re pputting great odds on her to win, especially after Alexandra backed her in the press.

So, @ Kenny G, let's not worry about black people voting for her; if Alex could win, then nothing can stop a true winner, what ever his/her colour.
Rachael needs to come up with something extraordinary to remain in the competition. Imagine that even the Twins who have no business being in the competition had more support than her!

Rachael is sure very talented, but even Alexandra did not get up to a poor start like her. I hope she makes a difference this weekend, else she is going home.

They have the right to refuse him, no doubt.

But it is rich from them considering he has not commited any offence and Clinton did.

If he became embassador, the child can not claim immunity for a crime he committed before the appointment of his father and at the age of 20 years old.
I hope you know that Americans do not joke with Rape, Murder, e.t.c and even if Adeniran is remotely linked to that, the US Government do not want such scandal following his appointment. Clinton's offence was not criminal, it was morally wrong.

CareerRe: Banks Should Run Shifts by Tats(m): 5:49am On Sep 14, 2009
I still don't understand this "Shift" Idea. Like @Yourangel noted, banks generally do not run for 24 hours and there are core work hours (In Nigeria it should normally be 8am to 5pm). All that is required is for the banks to hire more people to do the work so that the current workers will be less stressed and be able to go home at the latest 6pm.
TV/MoviesRe: Depiction Of Nigerians In "District 9" by Tats(m): 3:44pm On Sep 13, 2009
I just watched the movie in a Cinema in the U.S and almost passed out on my seat. Imagine that they said the Nigerians in District 9 were involved in Cat food scam, were prostitutes, dealt in Weapons, cut and ate Alien parts hoping to have their strength, e.t.c. District 9 is a slum for aliens & humans and the Aliens eat Cat Food which the Nigerians sell to them and collect their weapons.

The South Africans would not potray themselves as above and decided to use "Nigerians" instead. This film makes the Sony playstation advert a child's play and totally destroys the image of Nigerians and Nigeria in the eyes of the world. I am completely dissapointed in those South Africans involved in this movie and can't believe I paid to watch my country's image destroyed globally!

Defame us? How did this mention of Online Scammers defame the country? How do you connect the one to the other in such a way? You mean the online Scammers are not the guilty party here, SONY is? HOW? How can you defame a country by making mention of a scourge the country refuses to deal with?
The online scammers are the guilty ones here and Sony took advantage of it. There are many people who consider the reference of Nigeria to be defamation, and I don't. Nigeria would not have been mentioned in the Ad, if we were not the Kings and foot soldiers of "419" and also making people not to trust anything on the internet.

see this news today about Nigerians. http://naijanet.com/news/source/2009/sep/9/1000.html
GamingRe: Sony Changes Playstation 3 Ad After Nigerian Government Complains by Tats(m): 4:52pm On Sep 09, 2009
Has the fact that the advert been altered changed anything? maybe just that Nigeria has succeeded in making a large corporation alter an Ad! So when next should we be expecting another individual, nation or company to defame us?

As for those talking of Sony Boycott, whether you like it or not, "Junior" Rich Boy will still buy the new Playstation three after already owning a Wii, PS3 and X-Box combined. He will simply get the money from Dad the looting politician! Even the Yahoo Yahoo boys will still buy the new PS3 with their proceeds

It is high time we got our acts together as a country to combat this dubious Yahoo yahoo business with state of the art IT facilities and a special IT force squad (however way it can be done). It is appalling that our Leaders let these acts degenerate into what it has now become. Anyway, it is no surprise as they also do their's on a much larger scale and get away with it. So what moral right do they have to fight 419?

As for the "rebranding", that is a complete waste of time, money and effort.

Kunle-A:
All i can say is that everyone reading this piece know someone (let me assume its not yourself) that has procure or tried to procure a visa with "fake documents". This does not necessarily mean that the document in itself is fake. it might mean that the process u arfe using the document itself for is fake.

If i claim my uncle to be my dad cos he has a huge bank account. His bank account might be legit, however claiming him as my uncle is false. Hence i am making a fake claim with a genuine document.

We can jump on this guy's throat all we want. But i think he's up to something. Nigerians don't like the truth.
In the same vein, do you not know people who went to Embassies with genuine documents only to be told that they were fake? The figures for fake documents are high, but is not as much as they have made it to be. The statistics were likely given to the Perm Sec by the Embassies, or else how could he have gotten it?

Fake documents is a sad thing that has plagued our country, and the Embassies simply do not even know who to trust anymore.
TravelRe: Canada Denies Two Nigerian Kids Entry Visas by Tats(m): 12:03am On Jul 25, 2009
Some posters here write as if they are the only legal ones who live overseas!
Some of you have absolutely no understanding of the background of these kids. Granted that many Nigerians have debased our reputation (even in Canada) and most of us overseas have suffered for it. However, if the canadians will continue to refuse Nigerians visas then they should stop operating a visa service in Nigeria and just maintain a strictly political consulate. I believe that if these kids were going for a similar activity in the U.S or UK, they would have been given visas.

Just last year there was an article on the treatment of Nigerians by the Canadian embassy.

very tricky , if she was issued a visa to study , then she is expected to meet all requirements to study . Including resuming classes at the required time. It will look suspicious if school has been in session for a few months/ weeks, when she attempts to make her entry to the UK.

Please have her contact her school , explain her situation and they will often be able to advise on what she should do , they might even be able to help by providing some documentation that will explain her peculiar situation to the Immi officer at the port of entry
Very right.

brein:
GBAM!,
What is Gbam? is it saying that the poster was right?
Anyway, don't for a second think that you will be given a visa to resume school in September and you will turn up whenever you like and expect to be admitted into the country to study. You may probably be on the next flight back home if you do that!

I nearly believed it as the web address appeared to be a real interswitch website. But I concluded it was fake and that since I am not home, they were free to cancel my card as I will get a new one when I visited.

I felt more terrible sometime last month when I  had my ordeal. I got reported to my Company Manager by my Team Manager for visiting a Nigerian website, nigeriamasterweb.com, during my break and I was cautioned and instructed never to visit any Nigerian website (''scam'') at work again even when I made it clear to them that it is a newspaper site. How worse can it get when people view Nigerian through this negative lens. Its pathetic and disheartening!!

You may be right!

I thought those tags were very strong and shouldn't he have been answering the daily calls when they check up on him?

PoliticsRe: I Was A Doctor In Nigeria, Now A Cleaner In Canada by Tats(m): 5:33pm On Jun 01, 2009
This Canada issue has been going on for a long time. It has been discussed in this forum and you can check out more details in the website http://www.notcanada.com/.

You can't compare Canada with the UK when it comes to getting skilled jobs. Many skilled professionals from Nigeria hold very good jobs here in the UK and they studied in Nigeria. We know that in the UK medical field, it has become difficult as preference is now given to UK and EU citizens, but that has not stopped Nigerians from still making progress in Medicine. It is not the same in Canada. Very few migrants get befitting jobs and most who go there for further studies end up continuing to study further and work in Universities. Pharmacists do have a better chance of practising in Canada as there are demands for them, but qualifying to practice is nonetheless difficult

Most Nigerian graduates that come to the UK for further studies always acknowledge that we have a long way to go in Nigeria, but they still go on to do well. This is mainly because they have studied the hard way, are very adaptable and can cope, all in a bid to succeed.

BusinessRe: Outsourcing Business In Nigeria: Why Can't It Work? by Tats(m): 7:55pm On May 10, 2009
Apart from other issues listed above, stability is very key.
For instance, how would you explain to the companies you are managing a part of their business that your workers did not turn up for work because of a Riot or some other sillly reason? No foreign company wants to hear that as they will loose their customers very quickly due to non delivery of goods or services.

Trust is also very key. Many foreigners and countries virtually do not trust we Nigerians anymore because of the acts of many fraudsters and their illicit activities. When you are handling some type of outsourcing which is not related to manufacturing, you are entrusted with critical business and customer data such as bank account details, payment card details, addresses, date of brith, e.t.c. Nobody will risk putting such information in our hands!

That said, we have very skilled people, can train more and are capable of handling outsourcing if you consider the knowledge perspective. We need to put our acts together in other areas such as infrastructure, discipline, stability and we would be good to go. Maybe we can "rebrand" ourselves when we have done all this, but not before!!
