Good day e-family. I need your thoughts on my first attempt to travel to the US. A brief history of me and past travels: - Married (7 yrs) - 3 kids - travelled to the UK with family twice now(last being 2015) - Accountant for 9 yrs. -Wife has worked 8 yrs cumulatively. Changed to a new job in Sept 2017...so she's just less than a year in the new office. My enquiries: 1. Wife's passport is in her maiden surname (though we ve done the change of name last year with the affidavit and newspaper publication) Can it be an issue?- Though all our UK visas were applied with her passport in her maiden name- UK doesn't have qualms with it. 2. I am likely to be sponsored for a foreign training to Virginia come June, 2018 so I intend to apply now for a visa for myself and family(as I have the funds to do so now before the kudi filters away ) quoting Virginia as our destination. My family may not go with me in June but we'll all travel later in August during my 2018 leave. Will it be an issue for me that im not travelling with my fam in this first instance when going in June being a 1st time US visitor?3. I read that US embassy stamps 2 years in the 1st instance- My wife's passport expires in August 2019...less than 2 years validity? Will this issue deny her from being stamped 2 year visa in a passport that is about 1 year plus validity period? Thank you. CC. LadyG and others, thanks in advance. |
Lucious477:Congratulations!!! Indeed, God has made it end in praise for you and your young family. Go and flourish in your new home! |
Guitarlife:@Guitarlife, Congrats once again. Pls can you explain the process you followed in setting the speed of the youtube listening practice vidoes to 1.25? It will benefit alot of people here. It will all end in praise IJN! |
Virt:Which of the provincial CPAs if I may ask? and are you a full CPA or you are just registered to complete the exams to become a full CPA? Paying 600 CAD every year for the last 3 years is quite some commitment on your part!! To even think that you re not yet in Canada- earning dollars- to fuel the membership? ![]() Why don't you consider writing them explaining your current situation and request for an exception- whether partial or full- pending the time you'll land as a permanent resident. My people say "At all, at all, na im bad pass" ![]() It will end in praise IJN! |
happytbaby:Oh, I must have missed some info in between. Thanks @happybaby I will try to fill in the gap and update accordingly. ![]() Cheers. It will end in praise IJN! |
rainazoe:Got ya. You have a reply. Cheers. It will all end in praise IJN! |
happytbaby:Yes, it means writing the papers of the Institute to qualify for the designation. It is in a manner of writing/speaking common and known with the CPA Institute (if you read their website often, you will be used to the term) It will all end in praise IJN! |
rainazoe:Maam, my bad! ![]() we shall testify at the end of this process IJN! I wrote to CPA Ontario on a similar matter seeking for deferral; yet to receive their response email though. Have you initiated the process with CPA at all (send your transcripts, pay registration fees, etc) or you re about to? What's your strategy in achieving your career goal in Canny. You need to have one (all of these our seniors here have one which they kept revising and review frequently in the light of better and further information and knowledge ) Dont just rush into wanting to challenge the CPA exams because you want to be an accountant in Canada- I made that mistake, you shouldn't!! thankfully, I still had time to retrace my steps, though I lost money in the process. (Reach me, lets talk) It will all end in praise IJN! |
vascey:I guess you have been answered by @Aig84 But in addition, accounting filed is lucrative to the best of my research, however, you need to know which sub-area of accounting you want to pursue (e.g, AML investigations, audit, retail accounting, compliance etc) Choosing whichever, requires you look deeply into your passion, your prior experience, totality of your education and what you want to do going forward in a new "working" country ![]() In my own case, the bit of my research shows that what I want to do in the short to medium term does not strictly require the CPA designation like that like that again. I only need to horn my skills, if I can, I'll try to get a major designation in the sub-field that I'm interested in and when I land, I'll take a diploma or certificate in Business in one of the colleges/universities and I'm sure with that and God, I can progress comfortably well! It will all end in praise IJN! |
rainazoe:@rainazoe, No, I am an ACA (ICAN qualified). Though I have my registration approval with CPA Ontario, I want to defer moves with that line of effort for some obvious reasons for now...I have consulted widely and I guess it's the best thing to do for now (especially considering what I want to do, career wise going forward) Cheers man. It will all end in praise IJN! |
Zeewirld:Great decision there @Zeewirld, I'm still in naija and I'm about registering for ACAMS too. I intend to pass it before landing. Can we get to talk and strategize together? BTW, it is an open secret that our hero @Blackbuddy is a lovely soul back to back! ![]() It will end in praise IJN! |
vcole:Thanks @vcole. If you can't posit on the job outlook, at least you will have a thought or two to share on liveability, social "bubblingness" (its my English oo ), city events unique to either of them, neighbourhood character etc.God bless! It will end in praise IJN. |
@Salford1, freeradical, vcole et al Kindly help with your thoughts on settling and living in either of these Alberta cities: Calgary OR Edmonton Which of these two will you easily choose above the other if your situation is as below: Accountant/HR job seeking couple With kids. In terms of kids' school, decently priced accommodation, decently priced utilities, community safety generally(less community gangstarism), decently priced groceries, general social outlooks of both. Thank you all in advance! It will end in praise IJN! |
rainazoe:Don't mind Maternal... (Why I didn't grace his post with a reply!)Some things can't just be disclosed in a public forum lest one is mistakened for a brag. Hmmm, thank God for the journey thus far in Naija (I cant complain ) and joyfully expectant of the future in Canny. No doubt he is on point regarding giving the kids a better learning and growing environment (if the assumption behind his posts points in that direction) but to make a blanket assumption that people are generally not "doing well" at home, reason why they are on the thread, will be stretching the ignorance too far (come on, this is Nigeria o, not India! you no know the weight of my naija people na im dey make you yarn like that ) I have met people from this thread one on one (I don't have to mention monikers) and I'm like what are these folks looking for again? But like someone said, priorities for immigrating are so diverse and different for many people, you will be pleasantly shocked, seeking for better financial opportunities in the short term is the least of the reasons for embarking on the immi-journey in the first instance for many! It will definitely end in praise IJN! |
Newmum0615:Don't mind them Now that it seems the PR process is being demystified, (with PPR landing within 2-4 months of application)Why won't they be announcing PPR as if it no big deal! ![]() Anyways, it is all summing up to end in praise! |
Lhimeet:I just hope some dubious and fake consultants have not started playing on your emotions which may soon lead to them playing with your "pockets" Bros, shine your eyes oooo!!! It will end in praise IJN! |
rainazoe:Ehyah...so sorry to hear this. The issues with most naija men to my mind are some of these; 1. Fear of starting almost all over in a very unfamiliar terrain. 2. A society where the woman is free to do as she wishes (no cultural restraints as instituted in Africa) and may easily "misbehave" and to top it, the laws and the society will side her 100% against the man, that unknown is scary to some. 3. Children loosing touch with the "home" culture and values...etc Try to search what his innate fears are and try to genuinely address them (I know what I'm saying, some of us men are just ready to embark on the journey with the divine assurance that we will go with our spouses and the family won't disintegrate in the foreign land) Some men know their wives' attitude and won't step a foot outside of this Naija to relocate elsewhere with them because they are fairly certain that their families may not come back in one piece... Sis, keep praying and hoping for the best. I pray the future will deliver the best to your home and make everything end in your favour. It will end in praise IJN! |
Canadianfly:You cant be more correct at the bolded above! My version of your statement that I usually share is that this IELTS is an hint-based test- nothing more! (Just understand the tricks, formulate your strategies to deploy the mastered hints on D-Day and PRACTICE PRACTICE well ahead of test) So, how does one prepare for what is not a conventional test in the true traditional sense of the word? So when you see some people acing it on the first attempt with an 8989 result, they most likely have their English on point in all respect all the while and maybe achieved this type of result with just minimal practice...(Their type plenty for this thread )Someone whose English is a little defective from secondary school days (like me ![]() Different strategies for different folks!! Know your weakness and work on it!! It will all end in praise IJN! |
@GlitteringStar, Thanks for your intervention on my Express Entry Profile/GCKey retrieval matter. Just as I had promised to update you... I have eventual figured out the old GCKey credentials and I have been able to access my profile now. God bless you and may PPR fall on you soon. It will definitely end in praise IJN. |
GlitteringStar:Yes. My given name is My first name and my middle name (I'll check about the case sensitivity) I'll try Explorer as a change of browser too. Thank you. It's ending in praise IJN! |
GlitteringStar:Thanks GS But there's still a BUT...I went through all the motions of the procedure one by one (skipping the portion asking for city of birth and country of birth) and entering in my details diligently but at the end when I clicked on "Link Application to the account", it returned a verdict that no profile matching the details entered can be found. I tried again for about 3 different times (because the form told me I can try only 5 times within a 24 hours window) and when I kept getting the same result, a raised a CSE web form and successfully submitted same. Keeping my fingers crossed as I honestly do not want to create a new profile at all (which may be my very last last option) Thank you once again. I'll keep you posted. It will all end in praise IJN! |
