To the ACCA folks, I'd advise to go through CPA Ontario. I'm applying through them and there has been no issues with scanning documents to them and responding. So far I only have the tax course outstanding which I have decided to chill on since I don't intend to land till 2nd Qtr 2018.
I think their processes are better than CPA BC who I've heard may request for hard copies. All my documents except academic transcript were sent as soft copies. Transcript sef na because my school no dey do softcopy

Though I am still on the PR process. Around July, I initiated and got approval from CPA Ontario for the Internationally Trained Accountant (ITA) route after about some 8 weeks using my ICAN- ACA status.

I got ICAN to give me my ATS and ACA transcripts, Letter of Good Standing, I packaged my MBA transcript, filled the relevant CPA forms and the painful part , I had to part with 480 CAD processing fee and DHL courier fees (man eye don see enuf in this PR hustle ). I spent almost 250k all in all (including ICAN fees and outstanding ICAN-ATS dues)

The sorry part now is that when my approval came from CPA Ontario, they said, quoting their mail:

"Your application to register as a student under Accounting Body Outside Canada has been approved. You will be receiving a student confirmation letter once available, however below lists your admission to membership requirements:

- Challenge the examinations of Core 1 and Core 2 Modules;

- Challenge the examinations of two Elective Modules;

- Capstone 1 module;

- Capstone 2 module;

- Common Final Exam (CFE);

- Prescribed Practical Experience (PPE)


Can you imagine, after almost 10 years of ACA status and finance work, I will have to write THAT MUCH as above.

(But from what I have been reading here, it seems something is not right about the number of papers I was approved to take (as an Internationally Trained Accountant); It is quite much as if I'm starting from the scratch!

To even think I may not been landing in Ontario as I had earlier planned as a FSW is now throwing another curve ball into an already complex matter (I feel like knocking myself, the whole fees and costs)

I'm currently going through as a Sask PNP and I thought of transferring my CPA Ontario application file to CPA Saskatchewan but CPA Sask said I will have to pay all the fees with them all over too. I don seeee weeenn!

I'm about to withdraw my studentship now as I cant keep paying 600 CAD annual studentship dues when I have not even landed. They ve even sent me a mail (of course bulk mail) whether I want to avail myself of an "early bird" subscription payment for 2018 600 CAD for 2018!

@all my brodas and sistas, abeg, see me see matter needing multiple analysis here o! kindly weigh in!

- Should I withdraw my studentship? (i may still come to work in Ontario years later)
- Are the papers approved for me to write in order as an ACA?
-Can I write CPA Ontario to pause my studentship pending when I land as PR to Canada and start earning CAD?

2) Pease type Accounting Technician Certificate as the name of the credential which is the same name you would see on your AAT certificate (please take a look at it to confirm). ICAN AAT is regarded as a Higher Education and is being evaluated as a one year College Level Certificate.

Thanks for your kind words, my contributions here are just my little way of giving back as I too was helped along the way and I`ve long since learnt that our strenght lies in our community/collective succes so wether we like it or not, we need to look out for each other especially in Canada. Like I earlier mentioned, due to some mix up, my wife and I did not get an invitation for the classroom training on time. The next available class would be for when we would have left Nigeria so they scheduled an online session for both of us. My wife took a day off from work while I logged on from my office so we were both together on the online conference call with a counselor in Canada.....

The above is just a little of what people stand to learn from the training programs. Please, don`t be persuaded by relatives and friends here who tell you not to bother with the trainings but just launch yourself into the job market. A smart person is one who takes advantage of the trainings and still chases the jobs together, at least, you will gain info, knowledge and confidence and hit your target more efficiently. If we will but humble ourselves and apply some of these principles, success will be the result and the journey will definitely continue in praise. Hope this helps.

Back in 2015 when I got COPR, I enrolled for the Planning for Canada pre-landing orientation session and through some mix up, they forgot to schedule I and my wife for an in-person session so they made arrangements for a 1 day, custom, online session for us. I logged from my office while my wife logged on from home and we had the session with a counselor in Canada where a lot was explained to us. Because I was already familiar with a lot of the concepts due to my personal research on settling in Canada since 2011, we were able to fly through a lot of the session content and get down to the nitty gritty. It was very helpful and validated a lot of what I already knew. Acces Employment was one of the post landing organisations recommended for further resume preparation, job search, networking and interview training and I had already heard of them from a friend who had landed earlier and passed through them. I landed and signed up for their Leadership Connections program, for persons with management experience and the wealth of knowledge passed across can not be quantified. The purpose of the training was not to give you a job but to prepare for the opportunities to get that job that fits your years of experience. Honestly, the information and network opportunities received, I could not have gotten it based on only trying to find a job online. The experience was so rich that I would get back home daily, share the tips and info with my wife who began to apply them in her job search and got a solid job before I finished the program in her field! I finished the program, took my time began to apply for jobs that were commensurate with my years of experience and skills and the rest is history. A lot depends on what you bring to the table, the ability to have an open mind, drop all the 'Nigerian behavior and mindset' we bring with us and diligently apply the principles they teach at these programmes. Six months after I came here, I landed a job that people who are here years before me still marvel at how I did it. I can't fail to give thanks for God's divine favour as I encourage you to take advantage of these training programmes. I have shared a list of some of them previously in the Living in Canada thread, just search backwards and read up. I can testify they really do make a difference.

I have been following your posts for a while and its not a secret that you are a very revered person here and across NL.

Just imagine the quoted piece above...and to think many will hustle out PPR/CoPR and just start to use the remaining time to pack alone without availing themselves of this pre-arrival goldmine is scary...and virtually nobody talks again after PPR/CoPR (most of them go into Luggage packing mode )

Some Provinces need particular CRS to apply like Ontario. I suggest you put your info like job reference, IELTS test result, ECA etc together. About 3 or 4 Provinces will open next year January.

Ontario at the default instance require you to have 400 crs to be eligible to be invited to submit your application to OINP

But there are exceptions to this default rule.

If you meet some other select criteria and are able withdraw your profile and recreate another one whilst the program is open and receiving applications, even with scores within the region of 385 more/less, your EE profile (with less than 400) may be picked to submit an application to OINP.


(NB: Perchance, you are interested in Ontario's OINP, you may want to research it up and follow the CANADIAN PNP thread )

Calling on all PPRs and CoPRs in the house!

I have not heard any of our recent PPRs and CoPRs come here and talk/advise about their experiences with pre-arrival services with organisations such as "ACCESS Employment" and "Planning for Canada"

These are organizations fully funded by the Government of Canada to offer free pre-arrival services and NOC-specific trainings (to aid ease of Canadian job environment transitioning) to PPR/CoPRs holders prior to their landing in Canada.

I just finished speaking with a friend that landed in Canny in September 2017 but before he left Nigeria, he and his wife availed themselves of the 8-weeks online trainings in their specific NOC and after the training, he tried his luck in applying to some jobs in the town he would be settling in, his attempts paid off as he got a job offer to resume upon landing.

He told me he attributed the job he got to the pre-arrival services online trainings he got (which reflected on his Canadian format-CV submitted for the job), the referral from one of the facilitators at a pre-arrival session he attended (which he said he actively participated in & got the attention and admiration of the facilitator that showed him the opening and recommended him)

You can only enroll for this Pre-arrival services if you have NOT landed in Canada but already have your PPR or CoPR and have more than 8 weeks to spare in Nigeria before departure and guess what? IT IS FREE!! Pls do your research on this, if interested!

My prepuz, don't let us be dulling good opportunities that will maximally impact our smooth settling in Canny, using such good valuable pre-departure time to be packing garri and ogbono alone is not smart o

You may choose to invest your pre-departure time wisely!!

All they are telling you is that READ UP information about this immigration journey you are about to embark upon. For free, I can tell you that it is deep, broad and complex and just relying on 3rd party information will not nail it for you...folks here could be wrong sometimes too and it will be scary for a reading-averse person to pick such info without verifying it and base his/her decision on it...It can mar alot of things in your immigration process.

Truth is alot of young people are not ready to read anything nowadays if it is not Instagram or Facebook and that in itself is scary!! The environment you are aiming to relocate to (Canada) is a developed society such that to know and assess most benefits and services available to you, you 've got to research up. How will such a fellow cope? this is no tourist visitation na (where you go, shop, visit a mall or two and jet back to naija )

You can always come to ask very peculiar questions pertaining to your application...BUT like I have posited before, let me reiterate again...THERE'S NO SHORTCUT TO READING UP IN THIS IMMIGRATION JOURNEY.

If you are new to the process, kindly take your induction courses by reading from "page 0", before you hit page 20, I'm pretty sure you wont come to page 520 and be asking what is WES and how do i write IELTS? ;

He created his EE profile with an hypothetical IELTS reference number "20999229IMM" in August however, as as this time, his ECA hasn't been completed. He put in the place of the ECA date, a date in August.

Now, his ECA came out in October. He has since changed the DATE OF ECA to "October" whilst his EE profile date of creation is "August"

He is thinking of withdrawing this EE profile and re-create another one.

My advice to him is to leave the EE profile as it is just a questionnaire, and has no bearing on his application post-ITA except where he did not meet the eligibility criteria score of 67/100 (that's when there will be an issue)

What do ya think (I'm NOT sure about my advice to him though!)

I'd leave it the way it is, if I were him. As long as he hasn't got ITA, I don't see a problem. Just my opinion.
But if such thing as this should worry him, he may want to keep his wary mind at rest by just creating a new profile as long as there isn't ITA on the table so far.

He has locked the EE profile number and job seeker code of that created profile into a recent PNP application he submitted and he's not sure what effect will withdrawing the profile (which he has submitted its number) and re-creating another one, will have on the PNP(which is an express entry linked) application?

Will your advice still be the same? (That's the confusing part for me, I tire for complex issues like this. The guy no let my whatsapp rest )
