RBC Capital Markets polled 6,000 consumers and found that “an impressive 26 percent of respondents who intend to purchase an iPhone are new” to Apple’s ecosystem, with the majority coming from Android, Amit Daryanani, an analyst at RBC, wrote in a note to investors.

Samsung’s global market share slid to 25 percent in the second quarter from 32 percent a year earlier; the Suwon, South Korea-based company reported sales and profit in July that missed analysts’ estimates.

“This is going to be a nightmare for Samsung,” Tim Bajarin, an analyst at Creative Strategies Inc., said of the larger-screen iPhones.

Note that this news just pertains to Android users in the US, and those that usually spring for the Flagship devices (i.e on-contract purchases at $199 or less)

These are users who have enough disposable income and are less inclined to piracy.

Just chipping this in before anyone who uses a N21k Tecno comes up to abuse switchers because they won't be able to download cracked Android 'HD Games' from dodgy Chinese sites on their iPhones cheesy

http://bgr.com/2014/09/18/iphone-6-vs-android-users/

With countless devices available from dozens of different vendors, Android has taken a significant lead in the international smartphone market. Last week, Apple made its biggest move yet to start converting Android users back to iOS with the unveiling of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus, and based on the latest data, it looks like the company’s gamble paid off.

Bloomberg reports that Android phone trade-ins have increased exponentially since Apple’s press event, signaling that many Android users were just waiting for Apple to introduce an iPhone with a larger display.

“I had talked to friends about my loyalty to Samsung and, before that, I was a BlackBerry loyalist,” California lawyer Sharyn Funamura told Bloomberg in regards to her preordering the iPhone 6. When Apple “finally addressed a lot of the reasons why I hadn’t bought an iPhone yet, then I just said, ‘OK, I bought your phone.’”

One of the top online electronics resellers, Gazelle, said that its Samsung phone trade-ins tripled last week. Gazelle also polled Android users and discovered that a third of them were planning to upgrade to the iPhone 6. 39% of them say the screen is the driving force behind their decision to desert Android.

“We’re seeing a higher propensity to switch,” Gazelle CEO Chris Sullivan said. “The combination of the screen size and the functionality” indicates that “this is going to be a strong and compelling product for Android users to switch,” he said.

At this rate, the only thing that might slow Apple down is how quickly they restock supply when the initial batch of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus shipments sell out.

mickyarams: I don't know what planet you are living, but every tech review I have seen online since the smartphone battle has always put an Android phone as number one.
You mean like the Anandtech benchmarks?

https://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph7335/58196.png

https://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph7335/58170.png

or the way Anandtech concluded their review by saying...

The A7 SoC is seriously impressive. Apple calls it a desktop-class SoC, but I'd rather refer to it as something capable of competing with the best Intel has to offer in this market. In many cases the A7's dual cores were competitive with Intel's recently announced Bay Trail SoC. Web browsing is ultimately where I noticed the A7's performance the most. As long as I was on a good internet connection, web pages just appeared after resolving DNS. The A7's GPU performance is also insanely good - more than enough for anything you could possibly throw at the iPhone 5s today, and fast enough to help keep this device feeling quick for a while.
This is what good reviewers like Anand Shimpi note. While Samsung is wowing sheep with useless gimmicks like "hey look, you can scroll this page with your eyes!", Apple is innovating on a silicon level point of view. Their custom processors are seriously impressive, beating Samsung's Exynos line that they saddle us with in Africa. GPU performance is also leading the park here.

Considering the fact that 3D games are some of the most demanding apps that users throw on their phones, and the fact that the iPhones have very power SGX GPUs, iphone users will see more expressions of raw power than the average Android Flagship.

Add iOS 8's 'Metal' Graphics API and you'll see iOS users getting better graphics in game than anyone using a Samsung device, For example. Gameloft just updated Asphalt 8 for Metal API use, and they tout visual improvements and framerate improvements. If you want the best looking version of Asphalt 8, you'll need to get an iPhone.

The only Android phone this year that has a chance of matching the iPhone 6 in raw power is the Galaxy Note 4.

Go and read the statement by the PRO of Tin Can Port Command of Nigerian Customs Services embedded in the article in your original post. I extract it for you below in case you don't have the patience to read your entire post.

It is sad that people will copy and post news clips from online media, and yet either are too lazy to read what they have posted, or maliciously twist it to fit their ill-conceived intent. This policy and its implementation has been severally discussed in many posts on NL, and people have been sufficiently educated. Don't start this falsehood all over again.
So your entire point is this policy does not apply to Tokunbo vehicles right now, but will apply in 4 months time?

This is actually Oritsejafor's terrible legacy: helping the propagation of this religious intolerance you're so proud to display. Not all muslims kill or forcibly islamize others. In 2010, Android fanboys insisted they would buy Android phones because Android = Choice and Choice was "good for the consumer"

In 2014, Android fanboys are still happy with choice...as long as you choose only Android cheesy

As with most of these kind of write-up, this is childish analysis.

Not only have the iPhone flagships held the performance edge over many Android flagships in the first few years, it also tries to insinuate that Apple described any of these so called 'features' mentioned here as 'magical'

Here's the key difference I see here

1. Android fanboys obsess over specs by looking at paper numbers. iPhones deliver the performance advantages with more efficient chipsets. Which is why the 1.2Ghz iPhone 5S trounced every single Android phone of 2013, including those sporting 1.9Ghz Snapdragon 800 chipsets.

2. There's a lot of talk about "technology seen since 2012" when referring to NFC. But that's been a largely useless radio for most Android users. Apple's never claimed the inclusion of NFC in the iPhone 6 was 'magical'. The user experience is what Apple says is magical. In one fell swoop, Apple's rolling out a service with the buy-in of every major bank in America and over 200,000 businesses. And in all cases, Apple Pay is MUCH simpler and faster in execution that Google Wallet.

naturally, the article fails to mention the ways android is playing catch up. For example, The smoothness iOS users have taken for granted for years, Google's still trying to address this. OEMs have had to tackle this by loading up on RAM but Google is still trying to handle this in code. We had Project Butter, then the lower memory requirement of Kitkat, and now a comprehensive rewrite/reskin with the upcoming Android L

You also see significant efforts being made to ensure OEMs can provide updates for customers. The vast majority of Tecno users in Nigeria will NEVER be able to use Android Wear smartwatches because they require Android 4.3. Most are stuck on 4.1 or 4.2. HTC's One X and One X+ from 2012 for example will not receive Android 4.3. Not only is Google playing catch up here, updates tend to trickle out very slowly to the OEMs.
in contrast, every iOS owner since 2011 (4S and above) is able to upgrade to iOS8, irrespective of carrier.

Other areas are numerous. Google still remain behind in closing the app gap among the hot new apps, GPU performance on most Android flagships lag behind, Camera performance on most Android flagships are an inferior experience, fingerprint reader tech and ease of use is miles behind. Security wise, Android is miles behind. play Store usually has a much bigger malware problem than the App Store and the slow update rollout means some vulnerabilities take ages to be patched out in most phones.

Both sides have their pros and cons. Both have unmissable features. So i did the best thing and got a Galaxy S5 and an iPhone 5S. Best of both worlds cheesy

Rather than assume that because he owns it,he must know what the renters did with it while they were renting it?
This is a very naive point of view.

Oritsejafor is a Religious minister. There MUST be clauses to whatever purpose his Jet can be used for. Just like a devout Muslim will always advice his stockbroker not to invest his funds in alcohol or pork farms, so must a Christian Minister insist that rentals for activities that aren't above board be discouraged.

Unless you're telling me that the Church jet can be rented out to PlayBoy magazine to have mid-air orgies cheesy

I'm not sure what your point is. the Bishops say he's hobnobbing too much with political figures, thereby compromising the neutrality CAN is supposed to stand for. You agree he fraternises too much with the corrupt crooks. So what is the difference?

zicoraads: Pity yourself, not Nigerians. Some of you have lost all sanity in the process of criticism, not minding how dumb you sometimes sound when trying too hard to be of relevance.
Do you even have any idea how many jobs this will create? Do you? Just check how many jobs the auto industry in South Africa creates. Car manufacturing plants, asSembly plants, spare parts and so on.
It is better to keep quiet and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubtsm
The tariff increase is NOT required to create jobs. tax breaks and import waivers for local manufacturers are more than enough incentive to attract more investment in this sector.
People will patronise locally assembled cars if the savings from the local assembly is passed on to the consumer. At this stage, the local assembly scene is still in its nascent stages, there are ZERO vehicles available for sale apart from a few lower end and tiny Hyundai or Kia vehicles. Where is the local car for anyone who wants to buy a reliable family sized Sedan?

It's strange...when it comes to fuel subsidy removal the FG is keen to stress that 'Market forces' will drive down prices of fuel. For some reason, they are incredibly reluctant to let these same 'Market forces' apply in the purchase of autos.

All this has done is to drastically drive up the cost for the average Nigerian to purchase a vehicle that they like. Only sycophants and traitors are in support of this tarriff increase at this moment.

While their leaders have their children oversees, they used these Koran brainwashed children of others for their selfish purposes. So its a northern affair they should deal with it. I have not heard that a child of northern leader was killed in a blast or do they not have children too?

The problem of the north is illiteracy, their leaders used Koran to brainwash them to the extent that they could kill and destroy all in the name of their allah.

The north is its own problem afterwards they have ruled this country for over 35yrs out of 50yrs of its existence but still yet they are ravaged with horrible poverty and disease. What has those past rulers did to educate the north?
1. Stop these childish lies. You were rejoicing. You said you were 'feeling cool' as you read reports of vulnerable teenagers being blown to bits and machine-gunned to death.

2. Who is 'the north'? Is it the children on the streets of Kano that created this problem? Is it the kids in this school that have been killed?
If your beef is with the past leaders of the north, why not focus your ire on them instead of jubilating when teenagers are killed violently?

3. If you can agree that the problem of the north is illiteracy, why are you unconcerned when schools that are raising a new generation of northerners to fix the problem are attacked and killed?

Instead of thinking of how to craft a rebuttal, I suggest you sit down, look deep within yourself for a residual spark of humanity and ask why you cannot dredge up more empathy for the plight of your fellow Nigerians.

For example, you pre-ordered 10 sims from me for resale today(it means 10 sims have been ordered) for the first day(not the actual sale). After supplying them to you the following day you proceed to sell them to those who need them and it takes you another 4 days to do that. In summary, 1 day for pre-order + 1 day for delivery + 4 days for resale of the 1o sims = 6 days in total to get to the final consumers. The 6 days reflect the actual time the 10 number get to the final consume . Bwhahaha...
No, you do not get it.

The 4 million pre-orders are direct-to-customer sales. There is no middle man here, this is all sold-through numbers.

And even worse for you, the iPhone 5S went on to record 9 million + sales in the first weekend alone. The 6/6+ will easily eclipse those numbers.

I'm not even sure why you're typing up this wall of text here, nobody else really believes that Apple is deliberately lying about sales. They achieve record breaking launch sales yearly without breaking a sweat.

Don't feel put out because most of your favorite Android OEMs are struggling. Sony just took a > $1bn loss on its Smartphone division due to poorer performance than expected.
