Amaka herself is to blame. She goes on a facebook group looking for 'free money'...and someone gives her 'free money' What is even funny is the N5million withdrawal from the bank. On every bank I have used, the withdrawal slip has a notice telling you that every transaction above N1million is reported to the financial agencies..... Anyway....Amaka was greedy. There is no such thing as FREE MONEY....once you graduate, you work for every naira you get. |
speedyconnect3:No, the story sounds like classic money laundering. You transfer 'dirty' money to a clean account...and then remove the money from the 'clean' account...and vamoose. And a good number of times, the dirty cash is stolen cash.....like in Amaka's case. Ain't fiction.... |
dearie:Fixed. ![]() |
Earthbound:I like your style...but still,I think you should get an ATM card. Just be careful...like everything in life. ![]() |
Curlieweed:Then there is population growth. In 1991...Nigeria had 89million people...now we have 200million people. Fulanis have been migrating down south for decades....the difference now is that there are more people. Land that was fallow..is now tilled permanently. And there are more cows. And both sides use archaic farming methods. Plus...the Sahara issue is just one of the things...there is the Boko Haram issue. Afforestation has been an ongoing issue...but in this case,it isn't just Nigeria...it is an ECOWAS matter...and it won't neccesarlily stop migration of herders. (That needs a strong cultural change...and as you can see, even the most extreme case of ranches being established in the South for fulanis is opposed by most of them...they want to keep on moving). One other solution...railways.During the colonial times, and into the 1960's....cows wereincreasingly being transported by rail. That ended by the 1980's. Hopefully, we could do that again...with the ongoing rail reform. |
KenOne:The truth of the matter is that neither PDP nor APC is interested in changing the status quo. What even annoys me is the governors...not one of them is getting all sides to sit down, hear their greviances, and work out solutions. Because it is far easier to play tribal politics....whether Farmer or Cattle herder. |
Hmm When PDP was in charge, Benue was facing herdsmen crisis, as well as salary and economic crisis. Their governors have done naught to develop the state economically to add to the matter. (Benue produces a lot of oranges...what have the governors done. APC is now in charge...and the same old story. (Funnily enough, the APC governor has gone to PDP.). The truth is, APC and PDP are not interested in helping the people of Benue...they are only interested in helping themselves. If they were interested in helping the peopleof Benue...they would have found a way out of this crisis decades ago. But they are not....and they won't. And the sad thing is that in the next election, PDP is going to win. And we would be back to the same old song.....only this time, the new opposition party APC will take the blame...and the cycle continues. Honestly, are Nigerians willing and ready to change? |
Just one more thing.... Most of the comments on this thread can be put as follows... 1.NNPC is sacking Southerners. 2.NNPC is made up of people who were appointed by conncections and without merit. (If it was, NNPC would have long since collapsed). 3.NNPC should be recruiting people like me. At the end of the day... 1.Most Nigerians want to work for Government. In nice office jobs. Creating employment is alien to them. 2.Nigerians also like to make coments without backing by facts. We got to change. |
IamD18:That's not true, and you know it. |
Whatever the FG says, or ASUU says....fee increases are inevitable. The 2009 agreement put funding needed at N3trillion over 2years.The new 2013 agreement puts funding at N1 trillion over 5 years. That tells me that there isn't enough money...and as a result fees have to go up. Yes,I hate to say this, but Nigeria doesn't have enough cash. We probably need at least N5 trillion to fund all sectors of education adequately. Probably more...so that we don;t have to pay high fees. And our budget is N9 trillion. So,either we pay high fees,or higher taxes,or keepon with free education,at the cost of quality.....while the rich port to private and foreign schools to get better quality degrees....and the poor we are supposed to be helping get bad degrees. |
AGNESikpuNNU: Edodefender:Do you guys have a list of the staff that were sacked, as well as a list of the remaining NNPC staff so that we can verify your claims.? For all we know..it could have been Northerners that were sacked, or even equal numbers from both tribes. Let us not be spreading lies and unverified information. Don;t allow bitterness to destroy you. |
lezzshyte:GO....TO...A...TEACHING ....HOSPITAL....NEAR ....YOU...AND ....SEE...A...DERMATOLOGIST. Good evening. |
This is brilliant.Thanks. Looking back, WWI and WW2 while leading to massive loss of life, and being major tragedies did have a silver lining...they 1) sped up the end of colonial rule. 2.)also made racisim (to some extent)unacceptable as a mainstream belief. |
null:Good point there... Problem is, what do we do with all those resources...and I should note that some of those resources are not mined in Nigeria anymore. Plus....we have to stop being an exporter of raw materials...and industriailze. |
Ufedolove:Dubai 2.5 million barrels of crude per day Population ; 11million Nigeria 2 million barrels of crude per day Population; 200million. Any questions? |
dalongjnr:Thing is, since we returned to democracy, we have become a tribal people. Solong as the person being sacked is being sacked for 'speaking for Buhari', buhari opponets would be happy. The same thing if it is an Atiku supporter sacked. ....people who support Bubu would be glad. In my opinion, we should not be sacking workers for their political beliefs. HOWEVER...we are not hearing the whole story. For all we know, his sacking might have had nothing to do with his beliefs. |
saintjimos:Most ASUU members' kids school here in Nigeria. |
jumpandpas:Well, the fact is, if you are a political party, people want to know your opinions about things. (And while I don't support PDP, or even APC, I exepct anyone, everyone... to get behind the NLC's campaign for a better wage). |
Mace0lane:Well, I am not making excuses. In my opinion, the people protesting are in the right, and the state government has been lazy. But let's be frank, building roads in all them marshy states is a very difficult undertaking, compared to say the North. (FYI, I am not into APC or PDP by the way). |
SarkinYarki:PDP might win the election next year...therefore, it is good to know what their opinion is on the new minimum wage. That is one of the functions of being a party in a democratic setup. Infact, let's not just ask PDP....l;et's even ask all the other parties (so far, only Sowore is talking about minimum wage) |
shamack:Go after Gandollar...with all his police and DSS protection? Suicide mission for any would be kidnapper. (Really sad that they cannot impeach that gent...sigh, Nigeria!) |
On one hand, Wike should hear these guys, and fix the roads.. On the other hand, repairing or fixing or even constructing roads in Rivers no be beans. (Rain, rain and more rain). That's why I always clap when I hear that a new road ihas been completed in Rivers or Bayelsa.... |
mbaboy:Yet, you guys were clapping for Atiku when he said he would cut fuel to N90 perliter What that means (and mind you, our petrol needs are far far in excess of what we can refine, even with Dangote coming on line) is that subsidy payments would increase drastically....fuelling the corruption that is subsidy. The thing is, you guys...APC or PDP only care about subsidy when you can use it as a political weapon (APC did so back in 2014...see Bubu claiming what is subsidy)....because the alternative....removing subsidy completely...scares you 1.For ordinary Nigerians, it means higher fuel prices. 2.For the elite, PDP or APC and the NNPC....it means no more subsidy slush funds...everyone has to work for their money now. So, if you really want the scam to go, do support fuel subsidy removal. But the truth is, you won't. |
The fuel subsidy issue has become a means by which the opposition makes the government of the day look bad. By this statement, I don't mean to say that the Senate should not investigate the problem. They should. But the truth is, at the end of the day, the scam is going to continue because the alternative.....removing fuel subsidy completely, and by extension shutting down the scam, is going to lead to higher fuel prices of N200 and above...which would lead to serious protests by Nigerians. (And the funny thing is that Nigerians are complaining about the scam, yet don;t want to do the needful and support the removal of the scam). All I am saying is this...oil subsidy has to go. Completely, so that the government and NNPC no longer have any excuse to be paying subsidy and by extension one part of the corruption monster would be destroyed. And long term....investment would flow into the oil industry, leading to jobs, facilities, and an end to fuel scarcity for good. But unfortunately, Nigerians prefer lowprices, and the elite prefer to keep the subsidy scam going...only complaining about it when it is time to remove either the PDP or the APC from power...so that the winners can take over the scam.... |
aumeehn:Good afternoon and good luck |
Esseite:We have no choice. Even the provious government that was subsidising fuel...by 2013...only Lagos and Abuja were selling fuel at N97. Elsewhere it was above N100 per liter.(except for some major marketers...and you had to queue for that) Thing is, yes prices will go up, but eventually investment will flow in, jobs will get created, and the economy will grow...and prices will go down. It worked for GSM. Back in the day, a SIM cost N10000 or more. And the service was poor sef (remember when you could not call between Networks?)...and some people essentially were calling on Govt to control prices...ie subsidy. But investment flowed in, jobs got created...and prices dropped. The same can happen for fuel. After all, we cannot be shouting against subsidy, and at the same time fuelling the subsidy scam too. |
Esseite:In 2015....the landing cost of fuel was at N132 per liter. Official price was at N87 per liter. Bubu had to raise prices then, on the advice of Kalichukwu and the CBN governor.(Note...what happened in 2015 was a partial removal...not a full removal. Full removal means , as I said earlier, government hands off price setting for PMS...and allows marketers to charge whatever price they want. Now, landing cost is N180. Subsidy is N65 per liter. (And that subsidy is fueeling the scam). Subsidy has to go....yes,price goes up, but corruption goes too. (Above is why Atiku' s N90 is not feasible...and would simply benefit the same subsidy scam cabal). Thing is, all we need to do to end subsidy scams is remove subsidy |
Lilimax:One of the bad things about Nairaland is that we cannot give more than one likes (unlike Medium where you can gove up to 50 claps). One million likes anyway , sir. |
Esseite:Actually , from the article. The federal government illegally diverted $1.05 billion (N378 billion at N360 to a dollar) sourced from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) dividend funds to secretly fund subsidy payment on petroleum products, PREMIUM TIMES can report today. And note that the subsidy payment is meant to keep fuel at N145 per liter.(Of course..a large amount of that money is chopped due to corruption and other issues...but that is another story). If Atiku reduces the price to N90 per liter....that increases the amount of money available for subsidy fraud. That is why GEJ, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala and HRH the Emir of Kano are right....subsidy must go. Marketers must be allowed to set the price of fuel. Yes...fuel will cost N200 and above....but NNPC won't have any more excuse to pay subsidy....and all these scams will dissapear. |
The federal government illegally diverted $1.05 billion (N378 billion at N360 to a dollar) sourced from the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) dividend funds to secretly fund subsidy payment on petroleum products, PREMIUM TIMES can report today. And what this tells me is that if SUBSIDY goes.....this corruption would go too. Deregulation is the answer. |
aku626:Many of our leaders would prefer that their kids study in Nigeria. Problem is, our unviersites are poorly funded. We need at least N2 trillion yearly to fund our universites properly. Meanhwile our budget is N8trillion. So the rich vote with their feet...as do a lot of poor and middle class Nigerians ....and send the kids outside, or even to posh private universites. |
