Yes, poor students suffer, but the good thing is, staff get paid on time, and facilites are betterAND GETTING BETTER than public unviersites. Whereas in public unviersites, we pay fee of less than $1000 and expect $100000 service. How possible is that? |

Nollyzonenews: The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has announced the commencement of an indefinite nationwide strike with immediate effect. The decision was announced at the end of an emergency meeting on Sunday night. Briefing newsmen after the closed door meeting, ASUU president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said the strike will be total and commence with immediate effect.
He listed the reasons for their action to include:
1. Failure on the side of the government to honour the memorandum of action signed between the union and the federal government in 2017
2. Renegotiation with ASUU which the government intentionally ignored with impunity. Professor Ogunyemi therefore directed all the state chapters to ensure full compliance until their demands are met.
Source: https://www.dailynaija.com/post/why-we-declare-indefinite-nationwide-strike-ASUU The elephant in the room is that the government cannot afford to fund universites adequately again....hence the strike. To be honest, if universites were allowed to charge hefty fees, ASUU won't go on strike because there would be adequate funding for salaries, facilities, etc. In 2013, the then government told ASUU the truth. And the truth is, if we want five star universites, we have to have five star fees, or pay hefty taxes. Time for things like loans, scholarships and grants for students. Because I forsee another major fee rise. |

contigiency: Measuring the price of a barrel of crude oil as a yardstick for funding of our universities is being narrow minded. Because, funding of the universities is not the only problem needed to be solved from the proceeds of the crude oil. There are many problems confronting the country and majority of them depend on the crude oil income. I think somebody at Shehu Sani level should be talking about solving the fundamental problem by proposing how these universities could be self sustaining if he truly cares and not playing politics. How long shall we continue to proffer interim measures on this matter? By his submission, it means that when the crude trades for free or small margin, we will have to close the universities. The only way universites can be self sustaining is by increasing fees, among other measures. Either that...or we raise taxes, or we take another loan from IMF. |

In 2009....ASUU and FG signed an agreement that guaranteed N3 trillion over 2 years in EXTRA funding for universites.
In 2013, ASUU went on strike when the money had not come...and that is when GEJ told them that N3 trillion was not affordable..ie govt could not give them N3 trillion
In 2013...Oil was above $110 per barrel.
Now, oil is at $70.....and Senator Sani somehow expects miracles in funding?
Sorry, but if we want cheap fees, cheap educaiton...either we raise taxes, or wait for oil to reach its breakeven at $140 per barrel......or we just keep on taking loans. |

That's the problem. The funds aren't enough...and the corruption you allude to makes things worse. Then the money coming from government is falling,no thanks to the drop in oil prices. (and the thing is, we need oil to be at $140 per barrel to have enough cash for budget WITHOUT BORROWING, hence the $80 it is at isn't enough.). |

Kindly share n Repost Back in 2013, Government told ASUU that the 3 trillion naira per annum promised in 2009 as extra funding for Nigerian universites was no longer possible...and asked ASUU to take 200bn every year for 5 years. As a result, fees increase was inevitable. Here is the thing. Nigerian universites are lacking facilities, our graduates are not competitive, and the government is even building more universites. So, either government finds N3 trillion or more (our budget next year is N8trillion)....or we have to pay higher fees. Better face reality. |

The Council is having an emergency meeting to discuss the unprecedented action on the National office in Nigeria last week, where they printed an attestation certificate President Buhari whom the Ghana headquarters has confirmed on a number of cases that he was never a registered candidate of WAEC in 1961.

Note that a barrel of crude cost N153.4 WITHOUT ANY PROCCESSING. Processing is what you do to turn that barrel of oil into fuel, kerosene, diesel, etc. And proccessing adds to the costs. |

For NNPC, it means an end to the corruption...well most of it. Yet, despite the higher prices, oil subsidy removal makes sense long term for an economic point of view. The problem is, most of us Nigerians have been suffering too much to see this vision. |

efilefun: With crude at $80/bbl and exchange rate at N305/$? (special fx by FG for importers)
A barrel of crude is about 200 liters of crude.
Just dividing the $80 (N24,400) by 200 liters already gives a price of N122/liter without any processing.
So, by the time you factor in refining and transportation costs, THERE IS NO WAY the price will come as low as the 85/90 naira price PDP are claiming to reduce the price to.
But the unfortunate blockhead yoots won't see thru the lies but keep screaming Atikulooting. Processing costs would even push the price of fuel above N145...... You are right....even IF we refine all our fuel at home...we woould have to pay increased subsides to keep prices at N90. I don't like GEJ...but when he raised prices to N140 in 2012...it was harsh, but realistic. Same thing when Buhari riased prices to N145. |

EasternActivist: I though this woman is learned.
If we have our refineries up and running won't it crash the fuel price even more to N80 or lower?
Smh for this woman. It won't. 1.Even at full capacity, our refineries won;t be able to produce enough for all our needs. Keep in mind that the newest of the refineries was opened in the 1980's...when our fuel needs were less than they are now. 2.And Dangote refinery won't save us. Dangote took a loan of $6bn to build his refinery...which means when the refinery comeson stream, either fuel subsidy goes, so that Dangote can make back his money, or he exports all his fuel abroad. 3.We need at least three new refineries to produce enough fuel....which means $30bn needs to be spent. And you won;t want that cash to come fromour foreign reserve. 4.Only way we can reduce fuel prices...remove subsidy, allow prices to be set by marketers. Yes, fuel goes up to N200 and above, but more investment flows in, and eventually we get new refineries, new infrastructure, possible increase in forex from exporting refined priducts, and eventually prices crash. Neither APC or PDP is proposing that solution. NLC does not like that so;lution. |

kotv: 1. If you have the actual document, would you go and waste money hiring lawyers to defend what you have or would you go and ask the organization in question to release the document? When Buhari was in Cambridge, why didn't he go and ask for his documentations to be released despite all the public pushing to do so? When GEJ PhD was questioned, did he hire sans to defend him or did he have the school release his diploma?
2. The military denied having Buhari's certificate and maintained throughout the scandal until when Buhari was sworn in and that's when APC informed us that the military found the missing certificate. The more people kept inquiring release of the certificate, it went missing again. You people are only fooling yourselves.
3. Considering how corrupt Nigerian leaders are and considering how much APC have been bribing people, yes I'm not convinced that is a real certificate especially considering he still refused to release the attestation to Inec for confirmation. That letter you all want to dismiss is there since 2015 and have been..
4. You say this when the answer is there for all to see even with the oluwole certificate. According to the oluwole certificate, Buhari failed mathematics in which a person needs to join the military yet he joined the military. According to what the military released years ago, Buhari entered the military by recommendation by his principal. Yes, Nigeria Army have always been corrupt even in 1961 1.As has been said several times, the document issued to Bubu IS NOT A CERTIFICATE, but an attestation...which was introduced in September 2015 by WAEC. 2.The Army eventually admitted that they did not have Buhari's certifcate...BUT their records indicated they had gotten it before, but it was missing. (And I;ll leave it at that). 3.Again, it is not a certificate, it is an attestation...ie proof that he did write their exams.(WAEC has said so ). 4.Since we do not know the entrance requirements for the Army back in 1961...we cannot make a true determination about that. And I'll leave it at that. Anyway, I think APC is ....well, it does not matter what I think. If you want to hold onto your Bubu did not write the exam theory, fine. |

ephemm: Cut down the luxury of the executive and legislators and use it to fund the subsidy till you find solution to it.
The money saved from not paying subsidy is squandered elsewhere . 1.The amount of money we would spend on subsudusung fuel to N90 is far far in excess of what we would spend on the National Assembly. 2.Subsides in essence amount to government dictating to a petroleum marketer how much profit he or she can make. (That is why many of them engage in subsidy scams.and scarcity scams..to make ends meet.) 3.Even if we fix all the refineries, and add Dangote's own. we would still need to import fuel...so paying subsidy on imported fuel is a waste of time. 4.Better we remove subsidy. |

I doubt anyone is surprised they included his current picture in the fraud certificate, they did the same thing in one they released in 2015. When you're a scammer, God finds a way to expose you and God have continuously exposed the fake integrity dullard.
If Buhari had his WAEC he wouldn't have hired multiples SANs to defend his lack of certificate when he was taken to court for it nor would thugs, in which I wouldn't be shocked if APC hired them, wouldn't have been threatening the lawyer that took him to court. If he had his WAEC he wouldn't have been lying that the military had it. You are aware it wasn't just 2015 he kept accusing the military of having his certificate. He's been using that excuse since the first time he started running for presidency yet, WAEC didn't present him this attestation until he became president. Such a coincidence.
Not everyone is as stupid as Buhari so stop selling us shit and calling it food.
All this proved is that there's no organization in Nigeria that's not been severally corrupted since Buhari took over. He destroyed our judiciary system now confirmation that education system is in the all time low. I thought it couldn't get lower but, Buhari proved me wrong. 1.So when a guy is taken to court , he should not hire lawyers? 2.As has been stated several times, people joining the Army during Buhari's time handed their certificates to the Army(See Alani Akinrade, who stated just as much). And as has been stated, Buhari has gone on the record as saying his certificate was misplaced, and the Army recently confirmed it...hence the attestation. 3.For WAEC to issue an attestation shows that they have Bubu's academic records....or at the very least the continous assesment sheet used to determine his final results. 4.So, unless you have proof...and don't bring that letter of yours because it proves nothing...Bubu has a certificate. To assume otherwise means that you have to assume the Army in 1961 was so corrupt, and that the Continous Assesment sheet released by Bubu's old school were faked...when they were not. And if they were so corrupt...why go the extra mile for some kid from the village who had zero connections... |
