NwaAmaikpe:Landing costs of fuel is 180 naira. Pump price is 145 naira. Fuel companies cannot do business at a loss. So, they have to go scarcity or problems start. Meanwhile fuel costs much higher in neighborhood countries. Marketers earn profits by selling fuel across the border. We cannot continue subsidy. |
Oil subsidy must go The main problem is the 800million that has to be paid in subsidy claims, IE the 800million difference between the cost of fuel and the cost importing it. There is a solution to the problem. Allow marketers sell fuel at the price they want to sell. Yes. Fuel will sell as high as 300 naira per liter. Yes, life will get hard, but there will be no scarcity, no subsidy scams, and crucially long term prices will fall. Oil subsidy must go. Since 2006, even since 1993! |
Every party has its 'private' TV station. For PDP....it was AIT Now for APC....it's Channels (and TVC) Ah well....Nigeria needs a megabillions mogul who would be able to finance an independent TV station without government being able to cut the funding (though it may not be independent) The problem is....Private TV in Nigeria is relatively young, and has difficulty funding itself. AIT's romance with PDP came at a time when it had financial issues, for example. (All those independent TV stations in the US like Fox and CNN have independent sources of cash) |
chiagozien:To be frank, Nigeria is a contraption....a reallive contraption. The problem is,splitting up the contraption will lead to an even worse outcome. It isn't like 1967....nowadays, even tiny tribes want some form of autonomy. Even the original Biafra ran into trobule over the issue of states creation (minorities in the SS wanted states, Ojukwu prefered provinces.). Lord knows Nigeria is made up of people who were united without their consultation. But then again , so were most African countries. Even Zambia has active secessionist movements. And right now...staying together, no matter how bad it seems is better than splitting up. The problem with Nigerians is not Biafra, Buhari, Herdsmen, Kanu, Jubril, Atiku, Beroms, Niger Delta..or even oil. It is the propensity of Nigerias to vote for people who have chopped their money before, and will chop their money again. Next year, PDP may win...meaning we will swap one corrupt entity for another....and nothing will change. And Nigerians like you will be clapping. If you like, split Nigeria....just don;t come grumbling in the resulting chaos. |
Fazemood:Do you have proof it was scripted.....? Just don't be making allegations. |
Denikayan:At this point I should remind you that making unproven allegations is in itself wrong. Let the Police do their job. |
Elthugnificent:Blaine drank water throughout his fast |
godliman:The increasing desertification in the North and the shrinking of the Lake Chad as well as the increase in population are factors in the Fulani herdsmen crisis You don't have to believe in climate change. But the truth is, the way things were thirty years ago is not the way they are now. And this goes beyond politics |
Vdsc:Climate change is the reason why desertification is happening, which is driving down Fulani herdsmen into the farms of other Nigerians, leading to crisis. Maybe Bubu is going on holiday in your opinion, but this summit concerns us well well |
olujastro:So, in other words....fees have to go up. The whole strike drama is to be understood as an attempt to avert the reality of high fees...which is what my long and convoluted thinking comes to. The thing is...the whole education sector needs trillions of naira(my estimate)...not just unviersites ....if we want to enjoy free and QUALITY education at low prices/fees. |
olujastro:It was reasonable..the problem was, there was no way Government was going to be able to fund it. (That is what GEJ and the then labour minister eventually told them in 2013).Even now (our budget is N9 trillion for next year, and proposing we spend N3 trillion on just universites ....naa). The problem is...this means raised fees. (which is something neither ASUU, nor government , nor the Nigerian people want.) At the end of the day, ASUU would take a beaten down agreement, and the funding problem remains. The sad thing...it is the poor who would suffer the effects. Rich and the middle class would just port to private universites....or go abroad.(and even some of the poor would do the same). |
emmasege:1.The 14 new universites have made funding much more difficult. There are more universites for limited places.(By the way, Bubu too has set up at least 5 new universites. I guess that also makes him a good leader. Fact is, we don't need new universites. ). 2.Go and read the 2009 agreement which stated that universites should get N3 trillion in extra funding over 2 years. GEJ reduced it to 1.5 trillion over 5 years and was only able to pay N200billion in 2014. 3.TETFUND has been around before the GEJ admin. 4.The problem, and the reason why GEJ could not pay the whole money is simple. Fees have to go up. But neother the PDP or the APC or Nigerians are ready to face that reality. |
That means Carter is the oldest surviving ex president of the USA. Followed by Clinton, George W, and Obama. |
hinograce:Get a Samsung or Nokia.... |
The only way he can bring back Biafra is by ammending the costitution to allow for separation And which Biafra is he speaking of. ? Is it the five Igbo states plus anioma, or the five igbo states plus the South South and parts of the middle Belt? |
Acjohn:Regarding China... 1.The Uighur region, which is majority Muslim, wants to seccede from China...and the Chinese government is supressing them. Part of the supression includes supression of Islam...at least to a tame, state approved version. 2.China is also facing the same issue in Tibet...which is majorly Buddhist., and also wants to seccede from China. 3.I am sure you are a Christian ,like me. The Chinese government is not friendly to Chirstians either. While Christianity is growing....the government clamps down heavily. (Christians may have to hide their faith, for example). 4.The only approved version of beleif in China is state Atheism, as defined by the Chinese Communist Party. In China, the Party tells you what you must think. |
itiswellandwell: akanbiaa: KanwuliaExtra:In 1998 when INEC was registering new parties , the criteria was that each party should have a prescence in all the states. Based on that criteria....PDP, APP and AD were registered. Gani Fawehimni, the Senior Advocate of the Masses, then went to court...the Supreme Court, and got a court ruling that threw out the 'prescence in every state critierion' and made INEC register any willing party provided they paid the registration fees. Hence the 73 parties we have now. And Lord knows the kind of noise that would erupt if the National Assembly attempts to pass a law to restrict the number of parties. |
hardbody:It is the same Paul Biya ....that has been in power since the 1980's That's why anytime anyone says Nigeria has sit tight rulers....compared to countries like Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Uganda....we are learners. |
Looks like the South Africans would be hosting again, I guess |
Tolani0167:No savings means one dollar exchanges for 10000 naira. With severe inflation. |
NaijaOlosho:Except the savings apparently. Much better than a certain someone who drained the savings..... |
Tamarapetty:Eba. |
Roger3D:The thing is EFCC can't go against Gandollars until he either resigns or is removed from office thanks to immunity. And even if he is removed, he can smartly head to court and get a perpetual injunction like former governor of Rivers state odili. The few times efcc went against sitting governors, it blew up in their faces, or it led to farcical removals of governors. Even Fayose, the courts reversed the freezing of the accounts. The sad thing is that Gandollars is untouchable for now. The State house of assembly is hamstrung by a court order from investigating and removing him. God knows that immunity for elected officials would have been removed since 2006.Unfortunately it came as part of a package of bills which included third term for Obasanjo, which led to the whole thing being rejected by the then National Assembly |
crackerspub:Having valid papers does not necessarily mean having good accommodation. Infact, for all we know he may have lost his job, or he may have had a job and was having difficulties meeting living costs. |
duduade:Aww, the little boy is jealous..... |
Looks bad for the guy. Even if she died of an overdose...he should have legally reported the death...so that an autopsy would have been done, which, assuming he is telling the truth....would have cleared him. Guy should take his medicine. Crime is not good |
Deeldorado:Yes...only on the 'who will they sell NNPC too'....which is a valid question. |
Sirjamo:Yes, the truth is,removing subsidy MAKES economic sense. But no Nigerian poltician worth his salt wants to remove subsidy. (GEJ tried partial removal, got his hands burnt. PMB was forced to increase due to forex /revenues not being enough to sustain N87 per liter). Still...the day willcome when Nigerians have to face the fact and remove subsidy. If we don't...we will keep on having subsidy scams and scarcity scams...to say nothing of lack of investment in the oil industry....including jobs and new refineries. Nigerians have to face facts. We need to stop lying to ourselves. Oil subsidy must go. |
Was in one village in the North, needed to have a drink...and the chap who soldme the sprite that I drunk was using this 'fridge' Drink was not chilled like the electric fridge...but it was cold! |
I support privatising NNPC....however, if Atiku insists on keeping fuel at N90....privatising NNPC would have been sabotaged. Best thing to do...privatise NNPC,remove subsidy....yes fuel will shoot up to N300 per liter...YES...prices will go up.....BUT....NNPC will FINALLY become a responsible organisation. And prcies will go down eventually. GSM wasprivate from the wordgo...they were allowed to set their prices, yes...we paid N10000 for a sim, but the money enabled the GSM to make investments that led to price falls. Even the act of removing subsidy would end the scams around subsidy being carried out by elements in NNPC. |
Avedonn:Haven't you heard of the ancient proverb...you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours! |
jamace:I don't think APC is that powerful.... ![]() The thing is, oil is being discovered in more places....and at the same time, new technologies mean that oil can be extracted more efficently and from hard toreach places. (Fun fact...in my parents house is a textbook Iused to use that said we would run out of oil by the early 2000. Did not happen though). Only way for oilprcies toshoot up is for Trump to suddenly sanction the Saudis re Kashoggi. But that aint going to happen...and the Saudis are going to scratch Trump's back by keeping oil low....OPEC or no OPEC. |
