NwaAmaikpe:Thank you sir for the honor of responding to my post! ![]() On a more serious note...discovering oil in the Chad basin...goodnews in the sense that it means more revenue for Nigeria...bad news in that it means that it makes the oilprice crash more. Either way,we can no longer rely on oil...whether welikeit or not. |
banio:In 2012,the Libyan government collapsed and a lot of weapons ,advanced weapons that Ghaddafi had ammased for his army fell into the hands of criminals and thugs. Some of them have found their way to Boko. Plus...Boko engages in attacking markets in the North East, attacking herdsmen and stealing their cows.(which is why many herdsmen are mighrating down South, and crisis is resulting), and so on. Provides loot...which can be exchanged for weaponry. And Boko signed an aggrement with IS....meaning access to IS' wealth of experience and tactics fighting Western and Russian forces in the middleEast..... |
The thing is, this is not a war like the Nigerian Civil war...where there were formal fronts, and well defined battle lines. I should point out that the Nigerian Army has done well against Boko....in 2014,Boko boys were virtually in control of Borno,Yobe, some parts of Adamawa, and even extending into Bauchi....but now...they are confined to the north east of Borno. Boko, however,is not your typical Army....they are fighting asymetirc warfare. And the best way to fight asymetric warfare is by fighting back the same way. In the 1970'S the racist government of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe)was losing the war against the Liberation forces of ZANU and ZAPU. Their response was to form an asymetric warfare unit known as the Selous Scouts. Some special characteristics of the Scouts. 1.They were an integrated group. (Whites and blacks could join. There were also black officers commanding white soldiers.) 2.A key part of their training involved infiltration. 3.Also, they took in former freedom fighters and turned them to the side of the government. The result...the Scouts had a higher success rate than many other units of the Rhodesian armedforces....including the all white Rhodesian Light Infantry. Now, we have our own special forces....I wonder if they can infintrate Boko...and cause confusion. One more thing...I suspect the attack on Malete was conducted by hundreds of Boko boys...who concentrated their efforts on that tiny outpost. That is how people like Boko operate...and indeed have operated...attack a small millitary outpost....kill lots ofpeople...and cart away weapons.Job done...especially in the area of psychological terror. (Same way they operated under PDP is the same way they are operating under APC....which to meproves that Boko was never in anyone'spocket.....We are all in this toghether....Southerners or Northerners.). Infact, Boko's key aim is to sow discord. See...it works. Rumors are now spreading about 'obsolete equipment, poorly trained soldiers, poorly motivated soldiers, and Christian cannon fodder (my personal favourite)> As Sun TZU said...Kill one and frighten 10000. (Kill 77....) At this point....I would like to say that we Nigerians shouldput aside politics and religion and fight this Boko menance with all we got. Whether we get a new government in 2019 or not...to fight and destroy Boko is a task that must be done. And we must also fight the Boko in our communites. In many Nigerian communites...there are large numbers of unemployed and underused youths. These guys are potential Boko Haram . And they are not all Muslims or Christians....they are the result of systemic neglect by government at alllevels of the youth of this country. It is high time we mounted a crusade against youth unemployment and underdevelopment in tis countiry...before we have our version of Boko Haram in our neighbourhoods..... |
The oil price has slumped to its lowest point this year, as concerns mount about a glut of crude supply and fears that economic headwinds could lessen demand.https://www.theguardian.com/business/2018/nov/23/oil-price-falls-brent-crude-cost-barrel-oversupply-concerns Let us face facts. We can no longer rely on oil to save us.We must industrialze...or get poorer. |
Kelamma:A lot of people listen to their religious leaders..... So, very necessary. |
Many people are here saying that 'the church should have used the money for capital development, industries, fix the roads, etc' Well, I have news for you (and to be honest, I think the monument is not right...but that is another story). Dr Emenche is not the elected leader of Nigeria. It is not his job to develop Nigeria or Nigerians. It is his job to be doing 'church business'. If Dr Emenche was an elected leader of Nigeria or a businessman,or an industrialist...then by all means ,challenge him about capital development, and so on. But Dr Ememche is a church man...and the people who donated to build his church did so in the full knowledge that the money was going to be used for the said edifice. They knew.It isn't like Ememche lied to them. The reason why Nigeria does not do well is because 1.The businessess that make up Corporate Nigeria are in some ways poorly run. Right now, there is a thread here on frontpage about Diamond Bank that apparently is about to be run aground because of poor family management. 2.The people that make up Nigeria want stuff for free. For example, we don't have light partly because MOST people do not pay their power bills. I have lived in buildings where most of the residents don't pay their bills. Even the meter...at my current place of residence, the meter was bypassed by the previous resident.(The DISCO put a fine on the meter). Same for many other corporations. Like the GSM industry...peoplelove using cheats to get 'freedata'....and as a result...many companies cannotoperate easily. 3.Again the people that make up Nigeria engage in cheating, stealing, lying and corrupt behaviours...and their leaders reflect such people. Now...if there was one place I would blame Dr Emenche...it is in the area of not doing enough to get people far more interested in Christ. Instead...most christians in Nigeria are interested in position, money, money, how to get a spouse, how to buildhouse, how to look good...etc. Jesus they know not. And to my people that say that 'Look at Japan and Korea....they are not majorly Christian, but they are developed....wellthey were influenced by countries who acheived their development under a culture that was heavily influenced by Christianity....countries like France, Germany, and even the USA. (At the time the IndustrialRevolution was happening...many people still went to church in Europe....it is only since the 1960's that Church has fallen out of influence in Europe...in the US it is still strong). The problem with Nigeria is not Dr Emenche building his chruch...it is Nigerians themselves. Even if we were to give up religion tomorrow...I guarantee you that Nigeria will not develop. Because Nigerians are not itnerested in developing. They are interested in how they can use anything....even religion or atheisim...to get gifts. (Not only Nigeria...that is how many African countries during the 1960's and 70's declared themselves Communist countires so that they could get free aid and money and weapons from the Soviet Bloc). Until we stop trying to get gifts, and start working to better life for everyone...even if it is only the guys and gals in our village...we will never develop. |
Sirheny007:Biya wants to live forever... |
kabayomi:Most of the saying attributed to Uncle Bob were not actually uttered by him. |
Mugabe has tried , reaching 94 is no mean feat. I guess the old liberator is on his way out. At least he has acheived a lot...except for that farm takeover that ruined his country's economy. |
Sunofgod:It happened to someone I know...and it affected her ability to have children...though when it got fixed...things went smoothly. |
princesweetman2:You mean Singapore ? |
Curvinus:Funny you should mention Nyanya-Keffi....Government just signed a deal with the Chinese to turn the road into a multilane highway this past week. (Funding will come from a Chinese loan though). |
adextetoo:China is a atheist country Korea is partly Christian, partly Buudhist. Hongkong has a christian population Singapore is multireligions Japan is pagan(2% christian) |
Christians and Children....ehn.... Christians and kidnapping....ehn Christians! |
davodyguy:Those Dutch people are backward.... |
HeyCorleone:Actually ,some politicians do crossover in the US and Europe. Even the Republican and Democrat parties in the US have changed in nature....due to crossovers and countercrossovers over a long period of time...but that is a long story. |

Hmm.... Am I thinking what I am thinking... Of course I am thinking what I am thinking This thinking is very interesting thinking Am thinking and thinking... Hmm..... (I didn't call anyone's name o!) |
dreamworld:Just a few weeks ago...there was the story of an Igbo banker doing the same thing... And who can forget Alhaji Bulama...whose shenaigans in 2003 nearly brought down the bank now known as Unity Bank.(EFCC's first 'major' case). Anyway...for every Nigerian involved in stealing...there are a million who don't steal. |
uvie66:More like late thirties. On the topic...Rohr has spoken the truth. Ighalo is better than Chinese league. Wonder who was advising him...when he made the move... |
Omeokachie:Ganduje has not been impeached, yes, the way and manner he is beingprotected from impeachement is morally wrong...but so far (sadly) legally right. But until he is impeached...EFCC cannot touch him. |
Abjay97:And mehn...it was in the UK that I was approached by white beggars begging me for money. Yes, things should improve in Nigeria....but Europe and the USA too get wahala sef. |
Abjay97:In America, there are people who do exactly the same thing.... Takes the leader of a s"hole to know one, eh? |
Yesterday, I was at a business center cum internet cafe, and while using the system, I opened the Nairaland page, just to check news stories. Only to find that a fellow Nairalander, who had used the page before me,had logged in, but on finishing with the computer....had forgotten to log out. Please, I would like to beg and advise Nairalanders....IF YOU LOG INTO NAIRALAND ON A SHARED OR PUBLIC COMPUTER...or even your personal computer...please, for your safety, ALWAYS LOG OUT WHEN YOU FINISH. Hackers exist. I logged the nairalander out, and continued my business. |
Colourich:Unfortunately, this is Nigeria. The thing about the whole house chores stuff is that the guy's Mother...you know, that woman who carried himin his womb for 9months,and suffered to bring him into the world...is using the chores stuff to assess if you can take good care of her precious little Junior Just consider it an examination. Do it one time, and that is all. We live in that kind of society. And when in Rome , do as the Romans do. Remember...you need the mother on your side. Because if she isn't..... (And all Nigerian mothers are like that...even the 'liberal' ones!) (P.S As a man, I too know that is how my future wifey's mother is judging me...too. ) |
To all those joking about Yakubu's age....please stop. The average footballer in Nigeria starts playing around 18 years of age. By the time he reaches 25 years....he is broke, poor and owed several months salary. His club has zero good facilites, and not enough decent coaches, and etc. So, the guy becomes 18 again, wangles his way into a Youth Squad, does well at a tournament....and all of a sudden he is playing for a big European clubside....and in one year earns the amount of money that playing 12 years in the Nigerian league won't reach. The problem is our league is not well funded. Clubs cannot pay salaries, matches are poorly attended, and stadium and facilites are poor. And matchday fees are kept so low that most clubs canna make a living. Those of you that are laughing...if you were footballers....you will lie about your age. And you will get that contract with Man Utd. We need more investment in our footbal....from the rich and from the poor. There is no other way. (And by the way, until I see evidence...actual evidence...the Yak is 36 years old today. Happy birthday sir. Thanks for your service). |
I'm sorry, but speaking as a born again Christian....this edifice is not to the glory of God. It is amonument to Man. There are a lot of problems with the Church of God in Nigeria. And sadly we are not facing the enemy within....we are busy facing the enemy outside. In Nigeria today, many Christians are involved in looting, stealing, lying, supporting the corrupt, backbiting, tribalisim, hatred, murder, yahoo plus, etc. And our pastors are not saying anything about it. Instead all they do is play aggresive tribal poltics so that their nests stay feathered. Now,it is not the Church's job to build industries, to build roads, housing for the poor, etc. No,it is the church's job to be the LIGHT....so that men can see their evil ,repent and turn around and change society. Yet,I have not seen the Church change society. Instead, the church has become so worldly wise....that we can no longer see good fromevil. It is time to repent. God is not pleased with us. That is why herdsmen, boko, economic crisis, etc is disturbing us...it is chastisment for the refining of the Body so that we may be presented spotless and pure on the Last Day. Until we repent...God will not hear us. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise (Psalm51 vs17) |
dokie:Yes,our leadership needs tochange....but so too the people. If we are refusing to pay taxes and bills, and are actively paying bribes to 'influence things' and are voting for people that dash us N1000 on election day....then we should blame ourselves when stuff don't work well. |
Good comment....though I doubt Nigerians are listening. I have an employee that left his job because N1,200 payee was deducted from his N60,000 salary. Either poor or rich, most Nigerians hate any kind of talk about tax payments. Even people govt employed to enforce tax, dodge it too. They are d ones that will teach you how to do it.What? For example, majority at Alimosho, d largest voting block in Lagos dont pay for electricity. As their Senator, If u win 1st term by ignoring this scam, u'll lose 2nd term if u attempted changing it during your 1st term. And after,we willbe blaming DISCOS, GENCOS, Buhari, Fashola, GEJ, even Obasanjo for no light.... One cannot give what one does not have. Sometime ago....the DISCO in my area needed police to help them stop some people bypassing their meter... |
Abjay97:If that happens, MOST STATES, except Imo,Abia, Bayelsa,Rivers,Akwa Ibom, CrossRiver, Delta and Ondo....WOULD GO BROKE OVERNIGHT. 2. States Will Control Their Resources: The various states in Nigeria, will be in full control of their resources. Take for instance, Enugu; the coal producing state will be in full control of how coal is mined, transported and exported without the interference of the federal government. The federal government will play it's role by ensuring the coal mining follows due procedure.A) Apart from oil and cocoa, what else are we producing IN COMMERCIAL QUANTITIY? B)Agricultue ? With less than 10 % of farms being large scale.? You think this is the 1960's when the UK was there to buy allour crops...think again! 3. Less Power in Abuja: Currently, Nigeria runs a very a expensive government because of the centralized power in Abuja. If Nigeria is restructured, power no longer rests solely in Abuja, but is shared equally among states. This implies that states can have their own separate laws guiding them. ![]() There is a good reason why Ironsi gave us unitary government...and it was because of the first republic stuff. Plus....the small power states have...how many of them use it? Plus...when GEJ is blamed for not providing potable water in Otuoeke when there is a whole LGA chariman or Buhari is blamed for no good hotels in Daura when there is a whole LG chairman and state governor.... Abuja will become powerful again because....NIGERIANS! 4. State Policing Will be Made Possible: Imagine a Nigeria with a police force bearing the name "KAPD" standing as Kano State Police Department. The various states in Nigeria will be able to be in full control of their military; with Abuja overseeing them all. With which money? When you have rendered almost all the states broke? Plus...it costs more than ten states combined budget to set up an effective police force. Also, na broke state wey go build police academy, forensic labs, buy police car, buy ammo....on a shoestring budget. Do you want your state police force to look like glorifed maiguard? Shey you know that in America where state police dey...they pay HEAVY taxes for the purpose. And knowing how Nigerians are towards anything called raised taxes? And we never start about the tribalisim, and the regionalism sef. It was because the police and the army were regionalised to some extent that the pogroms of 1966 were easy to carry out! 5. Government Workers will be more serious: Restructuring this country, is sure to make civil servants serious in carrying out their responsibilities as there would be competition among states to have the best output. Can a leopard change its spots? No be the same people that were leading you before restructuing....na the same person wey go come lead you after. 6. Unemployment Reduction: Restructuring Nigeria will reduce the rate of unemployment; because the 36 states with mineral resources will begin to explore and harness their resources leading to a new era of utilization of these human and mineral resources.Bros....jobs are created in today'sworld via innovation drivien manufacturing. Not via sell raw materials, chop the revenue. We are not in the 1960's. Plus we know the kind jobs you Nigerians want....na office job. With air condtioner. 7. Increase in Healthy Competition: Nigerian states without good healthcare, schools and public infrastructure will begin to work hard to provide such, so that they can be seen as good among their counterparts. For instance, if a state is not doing well in providing quality education; and sees people leaving the state for other states that state can decide to work hard to improve the education infrastructure to see that it competes with states with the best education.Healthy competiton menene? Ok....when most of the states can not be revenue viable under the current system.... 8. Less dependence on Oil: Due to the fact, that states now control their resources, crude oil will no longer be the main source of revenue for the country; leading to the increase in diversity in revenue generation. Some states could go into manufacturing, some into real large scale Textile making, some into full time agricultureAs they are doing now? Plus.....ALL STATES....including the oil ones...should go into manufacturing. Fullstop. Textile? China has made textiles so unprofitable....what with its worker ant factories.. 9. General Development: The country will generally develop. Each state will be responsible for the improving a key sector of the economy leading to massive development.Nigeria will develop when each and every state wakes up and starts taking steps to be manufacturers. And when we get rid of corruption, and greed. 10. Nigerian crude oil could lose value: With the dwindling price of oil, and the growing concern about carbon poisoning caused by crude oil, the world is moving toward a green environment. Hence, revenue generated by oil in the south south of Nigeria will make little or no sense in the international markets in the nearest future. By 2020, many countries in Europe will begin the use of electric vehicles. All the morereason why relying on selling raw materials won't help us. |
