shilox: Yup! They said that Liverpool's BIG lesson would only make them stronger but they've been dazed since then; conceding 9 goals in 3 and a half games! These guys are lucky they got to face arguably the weakest team remaining in the UCL. |

@ Sauron What is wrong with you? I was clearly refering to the PFA awards not the Barclays awards. What exactly makes the PFA inferior? |

~Sauron~: I meant December and January BUT whenever I feel you couldn't get any sillier, you go ahead and out-do yourself. Let's go to the classroom: http://www.givemefootball.com/premier-league/pfa-fans-premier-league-player-of-the-month-winner Sept = Steven Gerrard Oct = Geovanni Nov = Cristiano Ronaldo Dec = Steven Gerrard Jan = Steven Gerrard Feb = Fernando Torres Mar = Aaron Lennon 3 awards out of 7. Where's your excellent Vidic? Not even one! Duh! And these awards are made by fans NOT pundits. For more information Visit: www.givemefootball.com Email: contact@givemefootball.com Phone: 0207 195 0095 ~Sauron~: Yeah! And if Noah's ark didn't save the rest of the world, what was the point of him building it? I thought we were discussing Gerrard as a player here, not Liverpool. |
Sports / Re: Fulham ( 0) vs Liverpool (1) on Saturday 4th April . by tocdee(m): 11:48pm On Apr 02, 2009 |
mukina2: How so? Liverpool have met Fulham 15 times in the League. They've won 9, drawn 3 and lost 3. I don't really think that's disappointing. In fact they tend to score most against Fulham! |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Most Overated Player In The Premier League by tocdee(m): 11:36pm On Apr 02, 2009 |
Gerrard is in the running for PFA footballer of the year alongside Vidic. He won the monthly awards for January and February and was nominated for several others including this month's. The truth is, he's good enough for the people that actually matter i.e top players, pundits, managers and the PFA. So Sauron and Ibime's arguments pointing to a single mistake in that match could be flushed down the nearest drain. He makes mistakes BUT who doesn't? Rooney? Another myth is that of a lack of discipline and poor tackling skills. My answer: watch more Liverpool matches and less England matches (where he's utilized poorly). If he's indisciplined in tackling, how come he's picked up only a single red card in his past 4 seasons (against Everton 2005/2006) whilst winning back possession on many occasions? As for his goal scoring, he's scored over 65 goals since the 2006/2007 season! He's hit 21 already this season with about 7 from the penalty spot. And he isn't even a striker! I can be a bit hard to please BUT I find these figures very satisfying indeed. |

~Sauron~: I understand your love for Spanish football BUT Senna better than Gerrard You must be having a laugh! Which team do you support? So if your team where a goal down in a final and you (as a manager) had Gerrard, Xavi, Senna, Iniesta and Essien, you'd ACTUALLY bring in Senna? Duh! The guy had a good Euro outing and now he's up there? I watched him yesterday against the Turks and he was poor to average at best. And a lot of people here have suddenly developed this post-injury love for Essien. The guy is a good player BUT his youth and power are his greatest assets. I mean, ever seen him taking a spot kick, free kick, corner kick, give a killer through-ball, etc: things that make great midfielders? Wait till he's about 30, lost some of his power and needs to rely on guile and technique, then he'll be thoroughly found out. Xavi is a splendid player, so is Iniesta but in the words of Kaka, "Gerrard, for me, is the Modern Complete Player." |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Rafa's Pride At World Coach Honour by tocdee(m): 6:53am On Apr 02, 2009 |
While he won the UCL with average players, you can't really say this current group is average. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Most Overated Player In The Premier League by tocdee(m): 10:15am On Apr 01, 2009 |
tkb417: Excellent squad. BUT I'm not too sure about Evra on current form. I'll take Carragher over Carvalho (maybe i'm biased) and I'd play Gerrard over Benzema behind Torres as he prefers being a lone striker as it offers him more space to exploit. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Rafa's Pride At World Coach Honour by tocdee(m): 10:02am On Apr 01, 2009 |
Hi guys, just saw this: RAFA'S PRIDE AT WORLD COACH HONOUR Rafael Benitez has spoken of his pride at being voted the best coach in the world by supporters voting in three of the continents best known newspapers. Spain's AS and Marca, plus Italian broadsheet La Gazzetta dello Sport conducted online polls asking their readers to vote for the best coach in world football. Liverpool's manager was an overwhelmingly popular figure and came out on top, winning more votes than the likes of Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello, Marcello Lippi, Vicente Del Bosque and Josep Guardiola. "I am really pleased. You cannot say that someone is the best in the world as it's almost impossible to guarantee that, but at least you have three big newspapers and supporters saying that we as a club are not bad," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv. "That for me is very positive because it means our staff are really good and the players are really good. "The manager always depends on the players and his staff. You can't be a good manager if you don't have a good team behind you. If the supporters say you are doing well it's because your team, your club is doing well. "Clearly it's nice because it's supporters from three different countries that voted, as there was also another poll in Germany." He has my vote! |

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Why Arent People Screamin Guardiola Guardiola Is It B Cos His Not In Premiership by tocdee(m): 4:35pm On Mar 28, 2009 |
Maybe this why: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N163802090328-1217.htm AFA IS SIMPLY THE BEST Steve Hunter 28 March 2009 Rafael Benitez is the best coach in the world according to three of the continent's best known newspapers. Spain's AS and Marca, plus Italian broadsheet La Gazzetta dello Sport conducted online polls asking their readers to vote for the best coach in world football. Liverpool's manager was an overwhelmingly popular figure and came out on top, winning more votes than the likes of Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Fabio Capello, Marcello Lippi, Vicente Del Bosque and Barcelona's Josep Guardiola. In Marca, Rafa got 44 per cent of the vote to finish ahead of Guardiola (28 per cent) and Wenger (7 per cent). Meanwhile, in AS, Benitez took 34 per cent with Guardiola in second place (19 per cent) and Spain's Head Coach Del Bosque third (15 per cent). Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport had Rafa out in front with 24.6 per cent, ahead of Ferguson (17.2 per cent) and Mourinho (15 per cent). As you can see, it's got nothing to do with the EPL. Even the Spanish don't rate him that highly as he's relatively unproven. |
Sports / Re: Best Striker In Europe? by tocdee(m): 11:44am On Mar 28, 2009 |
I'd take Torres over any other striker at the moment. People say that Villa is a more complete striker but I disagree. Torres has a two sweet feet on him and is one of the best headers in Europe. His presence makes defenders falter and is much faster than Villa. however Villa's ball-control is better but face it: great strikers like Raul, Inzaghi, Shevchenko, RVN,etc didn't need exceptional close control but good positioning and swift decisive finishing. Torres can score near-impossible goals and tends to do better in big stages. Villa is a superb player though. P.S; Eto-o deserves a mention too Ibrahimovic could be pathetic in big games. |

~Sauron~: I thought we were talking about the Arsenal match. Anyway, he scored at Old Trafford, didn't he? I wonder if Ronaldo has ever scored at Anfield (or even played well). Doesn't make him a bad player though. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Most Overated Player In The Premier League by tocdee(m): 7:55pm On Mar 26, 2009 |
~Sauron~: You realized Gerrard scored the first goal in that match, don't you? But then you forgot, conveniently. "Cesc's Heroics at the San Zero?" Is that all he's got? I have a DVD of Gerrard's heroics at almost EVERY top stadium in Europe!!!! Want one? And about that Gerrard dive clip, proffessional football has its ups and downs. Former top players like Schevchenko, Ronaldo, Maradona had the art of diving perfected to a T. Its like saying you've never told a fib. |
