Hi everyone, I jumped into learning Android app development few months ago, and I came up with an app on playstore which I first started as a pet project, Its an UN-OFFICIAL app for silverbird cinemas. Which shows movies showing in cinemas around Nigeria and Ghana. I simply choose them because they have more movie centres than others. Link here: LINK REMOVED I tried to follow some new Material design guidelines when practicing, also programming section on nairaland was a good inspiration from me as well. I’ve seen different posts from different app developers here on nairaland, so I need their advice of this. Am fairly new into Android dev, and this is my first App….so I would like to know how I can publicize the app? so i get people to download and Rate the app. I’m hoping to get advices from more experienced developers like @nollyj @dhtml18 @lordZOUGA @Appguru @kristom @pcguru1 @thewebcraft @Nobody @Javanian @davidsmith8900 @lalastica @DonaldGenes @liliian and the rest. ![]() Thanks, waiting for your input….. ![]() I Added three Pictures below...

Futureviz:Sorry for the late reply. Please see this link. http://tools.android.com/tech-docs/configuration Scroll down to the Increasing IDE Memory part. It talks about editing the Config file to override Android Studio's own. This is where you can locate it on your system C:\Program Files\Android\Android Studio\bin\studio.vmoptions or studio.exe.vmoptions Change this " -Xmx128m " to something higher like " -Xmx2048m " or even higher, if you have bigger memory. Then don't run Large memory intensive applications when Android studio is On at same time. you will have no issue. |
Sorry bro, but not to discourage you. The truth is It would very hard to develop with all the new material designs and external libraries that don't have .JAR files in Eclipse, Google has finally stopped supporting Eclipse. I had that issue as well, Just install Android Studio, then change the configurations to make it fast for your PC. (I can help you with that) Then Never run the emulator if your PC is slow. Run your apps on your physical phone directly. If Google says No to eclipse, there is virtually nothing we can all do. because they have New libraries that only work with Gradle. I felt pained as well. |
vicdall: So if you are handsome, you won't know? Hmmmm.....you no get mirror ni?Lmao!!! Lmao!!! ![]() |
Gflat: I have always wondered why girls are scared of handsome guys. I have met a number of girls who turn me down just because they are threatened by my looks,serious.100% truth !!! |
Emmalot121: What I know is that ladies tend to be possessive of handsome guys and not this crap.It us only common to men to be jealous and scared of beautiful women.you are probably ugly, thats why you haven't experienced what the Op is saying. It is 100% truth. |
firstEVA: Women are not scared of handsome guys neither are they intimidated by them, if you are the most handsome man on earth and a broke arse nigga, sorry dude, girls will rather go for a gorrila looking money bag than you, so abeg park wellLmao, But this theory no longer exist !!! you are just 1 % of ladies that think this way In other words....Dem go just chop the dude money, and when they're done...They'll run back to the cute dude ![]() #Don't Be Decieved |

dhtml18: I am a very fast reader, I read at unbelievable speed. Many times people are amazed when they ask me to read a block of text and I just take a glance and say I am done, and they are like really? And I repeat all the words, which might be several sentences, and they are always like wow. Maybe it is because I have a photographic memory, so I "simply cache" the pictures of the words inside my VRAM and internalize them completely seconds later.Empty barrels / Vessels makes the loudest noise ~~~ Anton Chekhov |
Christmygoal: please do you know where I can undertake training on mobile apps design/programming? I am a graduate of Electrical Engineering and would find your answer rewarding. ThanksIf you are totally new to "programming" or "Web/Mobile App dev" , I suggest you start off by learning a short term course in Aptech close to your location http://www.vconnect.com/aptech-computer-education-kaduna_north-kaduna_b78500, which might cost you some good money. Or you can learn free online, http://www.w3schools.com and https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/learn w3schools and developer.mozilla.org is a good way to start ,for the basic´s, after that you can easly find another source to evolve, and use a proper text editor like Notepad++ And then you can move further to http://lynda.com Lynda.com provides lots of great resources, They have most programming courses, in addition to other software courses. They are not free but its quite affordable compared to their content. But their tutorials can be downloaded free from Torrent sites, if you choose to do so. |
dhtml18: After watching this guy on nairaland for some time, I was beginning to draw similar conclusions like this too.Lmao !!! So you even have so much time to watch & keep track of pple on Nairaland, Wow |
MissMeiya: I said every single. Not single.Miss Developer I meant " Every SIngle " , and am sure you knew what i meant. If your App is only left to be on Web, You are not ready Yet ! The Only reason Nairaland hasn't taken Mobile App too serious is because " There is no tough competition for it " Why do you think Facebook bought Instagram and Whatsapp ? Reason is : They lost the mobile war to both of them. Simple !!! Not that they can't create their own version of Instagram and WhatsApp put together. |
. |
MissMeiya: That's due to the developer. A GOOD programmer makes a website that DEGRADES so it works on ALL PLATFORMS. That's how I build web apps. I test it on every single screen size, browser, and platform.Single Screen size / browser / Platform is not enough bro !!! Devices have their own issues rendering your web based App And who told you Twitter works everywhere ? How many phones did you test it with ? |
moscobabs: Before life left Nurse Ejelonu, she was very vocal and outspoken, calling for the release of the experimental ZMapp drug for ebola victims. She never got it, and she finally died this morning. She was just 25. Died with her dreams, a future quashed. African scientists, are you still in existence? African leaders, when will your brains be activated? Africans, we keep constructing all sorts of buildings that add little to our productivity (if Félix Houphouët-Boigny is not wasting millions of dollars on a cathedral in Yamoussoukro, the dude wasted $300million on the world's largest church while his people lived in grinding poverty in the same city he sited his grandiose basilica, you will see the Yobe State Government wasting billions of naira on a mosque that will sit 100,000 worshippers, forget the fact that their children are begging on the streets and their women are dying in thousands during childbirth) but the things that really matter, hospitals, libraries, research & development centres, astronomical observatories, recreational parks, we never build those. An American doctor who also got infected got the experimental drug and he is doing fine now because the scientists and leaders in their own country have their brains and they make good use of their mental resources. Until Africans realize that we need to get our lazy asses to the laboratories and make the most creative use of our brains in the fullest manner, nothing will change. If you work for my company and you are caught sleeping at work because you attended a vigil or asalatu over night, I will personally FIRE YOU. You can then go back to your prayer camp or moshalashi and collect your salary! We need to change our mindset and be realistic. This lady's death is needless. Only if as Nigerians, we were very proactive and had developed our own stock of experimental drugs. Our president too carried his hat all the way to Washington to meet Obama, ebola drug, he no fit collect come home, na to dey queue for back for photo. And as we are shouting ebola now, I am sure the Federal Ministry of Health is not preparing for the next epidemic of another exotic disease. We are never prepared. Oga Jona was calling Sawyerr mad for bringing ebola to Nigeria. The egunje customs and immigration that allowed him enter without screening nko? Are they not crazy as well?Your reply is good but also Biased as well, Whats your problem with religion exactly ? Couldn't you just make a good statement and remove religion out of it. If someone donated money to anywhere, question is...Is it your money? , Why you dey vex? |
expertfingers: When you need to withdraw up to 60000 and above, go walk into the banking hall. You will have peace of mind.LOL !!! Am sure you patronize those old Banks...Like W*M* , UN*I*N B*Nk where no one is in the banking hall when you want to receive money, else you would know its not comfortable walking into a bank waiting in a long list of line just for 60k |
Eve62: No b crayfishLMAO !!! If given the chance, He'll mention 5 Naira , hehehe ! |

https://blog.godreports.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/Ebola-Kent-Brantly.jpg “I am writing this update from my isolation room at Emory University Hospital, where the doctors and nurses are providing the very best care possible. I am growing stronger every day, and I thank God for His mercy as I have wrestled with this terrible disease. I also want to extend my deep and sincere thanks to all of you who have been praying for my recovery as well as for Nancy and for the people of Liberia and West Africa. “My wife Amber and I, along with our two children, did not move to Liberia for the specific purpose of fighting Ebola. We went to Liberia because we believe God called us to serve Him at ELWA Hospital." “One thing I have learned is that following God often leads us to unexpected places. When Ebola spread into Liberia, my usual hospital work turned more and more toward treating the increasing number of Ebola patients. I held the hands of countless individuals as this terrible disease took their lives away from them. I witnessed the horror first-hand, and I can still remember every face and name. “When I started feeling ill on that Wednesday morning, I immediately isolated myself until the test confirmed my diagnosis three days later. When the result was positive, I remember a deep sense of peace that was beyond all understanding. God was reminding me of what He had taught me years ago, that He will give me everything I need to be faithful to Him. “Now it is two weeks later, and I am in a totally different setting. My focus, however, remains the same - to follow God. As you continue to pray for Nancy and me, yes, please pray for our recovery. More importantly, pray that we would be faithful to God’s call on our lives in these new circumstances.” |
BedLam: It matters not if we like it or not, this is a wake up call for Africa! Stop praying and work! Get busy, research! Not just study for the papers that has no value. Nothing is free in this world, not in Freetown! What will it cost the Nigerian Government to commit 1billion$ to the research and development of Ebola drugs and vaccines? But no! we like being enslaved, waiting for the West.1 Billion Dollar Research ?? When we don't even have light, Right now..i am using GEN just to power my Laptop ![]() |
hayorbaami: No need to apologise for tagging me a feminist, it is not an insult you m0r0n. I wear the badge proudly. Men like you who just feel the need to mention it in every discussion irritate me because it makes you appear like bitter insecure eediots whowould end up 6ft below if they keep mentioning it every moment of their lives like it is a threat to their miserable existence." As for a comment being st_pid or not, I won't take you serious on that " --- Thank you very much for implicitly accepting the FACT that the comment was actually S-t-u-p-i-d, which invalidates all your other comments. Cheers !!! |
hayorbaami: A man made a comment I backed up but you eediotic weakling ignored that and decided to jump on my post. Why didn't you tag the guy a feminist? When will you retarrded men even learn to keep feminism out of your lips? Better watch it if you don't want your obituary to read "died of hatred for feminism". Olofo!OK, the only point you have is that i tagged you a feminist. Ok, i apologize. ( Point of Correction ) -- Next time, don't back up a S-t-u-p-i-d statement , either made by a Man or Woman. Because it makes you automatically S-t-u-p-i-d. You knew quite well that the statement was plainly S-t-u-p-i-d and you still backed it up. |
Kc2swit: Can you even hear yourself? She didnt even do anything...really? Then why did she apologise? Why not mention what she did if its so insignificant to warrant the man's reaction? Do you even know that the bible approves outright divorce on certain grounds? Obviously a care-free single lady, anywaysNice one !!! |
DrGroove: I don't know why women still expect much from men of nowadays.Once a man is nice enough to marry you, don't expect even good morning from him again.if he doesn't say happy birthday, will u die?Marriage is for society respect, not for a man to be telling u happy birthday n giving bday gifts. If u have a job, cant u buy any gift for urself?Stop creating a big deal out of nothing. You apologised so ignore whatever reaction he is creating. Save ur emotions for ur kids.Emotions mean nothing to men.calm down joor ! , you are very wrong !!! "don't expect even good morning from him again" -- (this is just Stupid) if you are having problems with your marriage, dont infect us with it |
