ajl: Ajimobi that collected N5 Billion from the state account and spent it until it remained N19k just 3 weeks before leaving office. Under Ajimobi, there were 60 bank accounts being operated by the state govt officials. Just imagine the leakages.
But GSM also mentioned that his government got N6 Billion when those 60 bank accounts were joined together. One thing that worries me is the malicious propaganda being spread against his predecessor even though we know Ajimobi had his faults. To me, we citizens should be wiser now and avoid making gods and goddesses out of our politicians. This way, they'll learn to respect us. As much as I was displeased with Ajimobi's government in Oyo, he really set a high standard for his successors and it's up to GSM to beat that standard and set a higher one. We don't expect anything less. But he needs to stop making it look like Ajimobi is the worst devil Oyo State has ever had though in terms of transparency and accountability to the people, so far GSM is winning.
Onlinealaba: Well maybe this unconnected to this post but NANS is one hell of a corrupt body so you can actually say what has exchange hands behind the scene . As a young person in Nigeria please avoid protest(am unapologetic about this) and riot, Nigeria police don't know a coordinated way for crowd control. I feel for the parents of the young boys
"Avoiding protests"... When I preached this sermon to my colleagues in 2017, some of them thought I was mad. A week later, the students were falsely accused of breaking classroom windows, beating up lecturers. It's time we find out what works for us as Nigerians and then use that as a weapon instead of using the same tool that doesn't have any good result.
press9jatv: Ibadan people said this is the first time they will be seeing massive light in Ibadan metropolis. Every where is light up. Kudos to the governor for this massive projects. Meanwhile, Oyo pensioner in joyous mood ahead of the yuletide as Seyi's government clears their outstanding from the last governments. Governor Seyi makinde is doing extremely well in governance. Soon the workers will be collecting their 13th months salaries and arrears. Seyi makinde se bebe ni Ibadan people voice . Omituntun ti ru ni oluyole people's voice. Kudos to the governor.
Everything is correct except the part that's says "every where is light up". I'm actually looking forward to that and the government is still working on it.
Caseless: You write like you didn't attend any school. She was admitted into another department or should I say she was given anatomy as a course to study.
ABU has medicine as its most precious course and admission into that faculty is extremely difficult and strict. If she comes 7 in her state, then the first 2 were picked and there's nothing religious jingoist like you can do about that.
The most important thing is that she's now a student in that prestigious university.
jumper524: are you in anyway undermining the quota system? If so then you need to learn how to fix yourself in the shoes of others. Remember merit was given 45% according to the O.p it wasn't neglected. The quota system gives room for all to be involved so as to improve the academic awareness across the country. A system in which if it we're adopted much earlier would have helped the country.
Careful how you ascertain cos even in democracy, check and balance is required.
Except you don't support the presidential Zoning system then you shouldnt support the quota system..
The first line where you asked a question is exactly what I'm speaking against. It's becoming cancerous to our system. Not long ago, results of Unity Schools were released and it's even more saddening. In some parts of the South, the zeal of learners to be more diligent is already dying out. How do we create a system where diligence is applauded and balance is allowed cos the system we're running is only focused on regionalism and ethnicity while diligence is in the thrash?
It's either you are insincere or you are ignorant of the whole thing
First of all, I'm not supporting what the school did. my message was directed to those who attributed what they did to Islam in the previous post that went on front page.
If you didn't see that post, go and check front page.
So my message is directed to those that attacked Islam because of it.
And secondly, the school has already explained the reason why they did what they did. did you not read the post?
So what is your claim of "assassination of hsrdwork, diligence and meritocracy" based on and why would you go to the extent of calling me "not qualified to complain about bla bla bla"?
again, it's either you are sincere and just wanted to attack me like the rest of your people or you are ignorant of the whole thing.
IAmStrange: And some people were attributing it to Islam, calling it Islamic agenda.
Many began to spite the school, calling it all sorts of derogatory names, with Islam in the picture.
WaLlohi, the minds of many of these people are dark and evil, the Muslims have just become too weak to expose them.
Indeed, it's the truth what Allaah said:
“Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad) till you follow their religion"
It's Islamophobia that will kill some people.
Did a story not come up one time of Covenant university rejecting admission to one Muslim guy in a similar fashion like this?
Did anyone shout Christianization?
When a Muslim does something, they attribute it to Islam. If it's the other way round, you won't hear such a thing coming from us.
Why are you all so deeply obsessed with Islam if you do not fear for its greatness and try to talk it down or criticize it at any given chance?
The reality is that many of these people are just insincere, sick-minded hypocrites!
Imes is coming! Imes is coming! The world should prepare.
The reality of your true selves, how evil your hearts are actually and how foolish your arguments and philosophies are will soon be exposed to the world when Imes comes.
All of you should continue! Imes will be making you all famous; yes, the whole will know you all for your evil and hypocritical ways.
By the time Imes will come, humiliation will be your companion. humiliation will be your nick names. You will all wine and dine with humiliation unless you repent and turn towards truth.
When Imes comes, it will be the end of your era and the beginning of a new one.
When Imes comes, it will be game over for many of you hypocritical lots
Imes is coming, You should all get prepared!
And you are free to wail and attack me on mention. That's your way and it will only make your humiliation more interesting when Imes eventually shows up.
Imes, we await your coming
This is not even about religion and tribalism. That's too petty. But by supporting what happened in that school, you've supported the assassination of hardwork, diligence and meritocracy and thus, you are not qualified at all to complain about the failure in Nigeria's system anymore.
That's a very silly excuse, so silly not only because cut-off mark for university is 180, the candidate had over 300 even though ABU would still admits students scoring less than 200 for the same exam. How then do we battle exam malpractices when individuals like the said candidate will diligently prepare for an exam, come out in flying colours and still be denied admission? Meanwhile, some on the alter of unprogressive and outdated sentiments be given the same admission. For how long is Nigeria going to drag herself underdevelopment?
Abalado: But you can ask them to rearrest him,, tyrants and hypocrite,,,,though I can't blame u people, let Sowore face the consequence alone, his part of the campaigners for ur government then, so let him face it, the rest of the campaigners should be ready to be arrested also, especially on this forum(nairaland).......good day
This your assertion has become overused already. The point now is not whether somebody campaign for the present administration or not, the point is that what is happening to Sowore is a tip of the icebergs of what can happen to you if you do a bit of what Sowore did to warrant his attention from this government. Nigeria is suffering because of bad leadership and we still keep blaming the people that campaign for them in the first tenure? It's a step backward rather than forward. The only thing Nigerians should do now is to stand together for themselves.
MrPresident1: At 34, Sanna Marin will soon become the world's youngest sitting prime minister after being selected by Finland's Social Democratic party to take over as leader following the resignation of Prime Minister Antti Rinne.
In recent years there has been a surge of politicians in their 30s winning leadership roles, including New Zealand's 39-year-old Prime Minister Jacina Ardern, Ukraine's 35-year-old Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk, and El Salvador's 38-year-old President Nayib Bukele.
Ordinary commissioner, make una dey deceive una self
We've had people that can still be referred to as "young" leading us in the House of Assembly, Senate etc, they haven't brought us much difference so this age stuff might not be really our problem.
Miles300: Does deleting Netflix app makes u a Christian ? God is a spirit and not a man ! So that movies means nothing . We are trying to defend a faith but yet don’t like our neighbors does that make u a Christian !! We leave important things of God to be chasing shadows !! I am not deleting my Netflix account ! That’s not the only movie on Netflix. Nigerians and all of their religious bigotry...
It's extreme for one to delete the app and think it'll solve all problems. However, you should remember "all things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient". It's better not to have anything to do with spirituality than fall into spiritual propangada common with entertainment sector and religious bodies.
Gbrika: This post clearly reveals what is spritually beneath Netflix operational foundation. By their fruits we know them. Good to know who your enemies are. Bye Bye to Netflix.
On another note, it's kinda difficult to be spiritually strong and be an ardent follower of core entertainment platforms like Netflix. Not that you can't subscribe to the videos but the very spirit of entertainment itself has some other aims that are hidden. As much as I don't like superstition, a really spiritual person (every religion) will have some reserves where widely accepted entertainment is involved.
Your focus shouldn't be entirely on making first class. Your focus should be to get a good grasp of every course you take henceforth. Your focus should be to stand tall and tell people what you studied, its uses and what you've gained so far. Strive to become an expert at what you're studying and I can assure that even if you don't make a firstly class, you have something that will make you an expert in your studies. It's not all about the grade one finishes with, it's about how much of your course content that you find relevant. (This should alone should get one at least a 2:1)
But he's been embarking on various laudable projects that are difficult to embark on if the treasury was 'almost' empty. Or what's the context of 'almost empty' here?
One thing that has helped me is seeing American or British movies and ensuring I hear every word in it most especially when there's no subtitle. Another way is reading a wide variety of books. These two ways are the little push you can successfully give yourself.
You'll be surprised one day when someone will bring up an idea you've heard about in a movie or read about in a book. At this point, the knowledge you have will force you to talk and you'll find yourself talking effortlessly.
Another way is to identify your most comfortable zone (your friends whom you can discuss anything with). When you identify them, always look for opportunity to discuss ideas with them especially in the areas where you're most interested. This will make them respect and will inform your brain that you have something to offer. Knowing this, you'll never find it difficult to communicate.
Right now, I'm still working on myself too but like Ben Franklin, I'm more comfortable writing down ideas than explaining them. But with my closest friends, explaining ideas is as good as writing them.
Yamleg: I'm an INTROVERT too to the core. I'm married, I find it extremely hard to call my wife family members and mine. It's just in me. My phone is my best friend. I have no friends at all. I hate myself when my phone is down.
Though I'm not married and probably shouldn't be advising a married man yet, sometimes you need to deliberately turn off your phone and have a relaxing communication with your wife. I'm very much introverted too and one way to get me bored in my free time is to take away my laptop and phone. But even with this, I'd still find something to read or write. Please, don't let your phone be your best friend, that should be your wife. If you won't open up to any other person in the world, open up to her or just free yourself around her with phone away from you.
mmsen: Yes, in parts of the south south there were elected 'kings', essentially presidents and rule by consensus. It was never a case of hereditary rule as in most of Europa.
But it was not universal suffrage. I don't think that works anywhere. You give the average man a vote and they will vote stupidly.See America with Trump, the UK with Brexit and Brasil with Bolsonaro.
The bolded is our real problem with democracy. If democracy will really be a success in Africa, there shouldn't be a universal suffrage.
srclark: It can't happen in an expensive school, cause most of the students stay on campus obviously this is a hostel outside campus what is a boy doing in girls hostel .I personally think if the fees are increased it will straighten out alot of things and it will not be a free for all venture .You need to go to a school community and see what goes on there is it the underage males joining cults and losing their lives at the end of the day or dropping out ,or is it the students that want to live a flamboyant life style hence pushing them into online fraud or prostitution .Or is it the students that go there to co habit (married in school single at home ) So here is the logic once the fees are increased it will reduce the crowd now the facility on ground(hostels and all) will be enough for the students that are ready to go to school issues like staying off campus will be totally ruled out then all this excesses can be curbed .Then as a student when you know what your parents are paying for fees it automatically makes you serious ,education is too cheap in this part of the world that is why we have alot of half baked graduates here and there
So you think fees increment is the way to make students serious? Then you're running towards what you're running away from. Here's the analysis: More students won't be able to study in the universities due to expensive fees and thus leading to more unemployed, uneducated younger generation which leads more social problems and worse than this FUTA scenario.
srclark: I personally think education should be made expensive in Nigeria and students of public universities should pay as much as 200k then all this madness on our campuses will stop .Visit any school community in Nigeria cultism, fraudsters, prostitution is the order of the day .But once the fees are increased i believe it is only people that need the education that will there but now that the fees is close to nothing many are unserious. My own opinion though.Just take a look at our leaders of tomorrow if a 300 level school father can behave like this what will happen when this one is through with school
I don't think that is the solution. FYI, what many students go through to pay their fees cannot be described. What you see there could have happened in an expensive university because it boils down to our ideal as a society than the students in isolation.
kokomilala: I think we should just stop politicising the Nobel Prize. Yes, Achebe didn't win it, but it didn't diminish his status as a literary giant. Achebe changed the wrong perception of the West about Africa. His iconic Things Fall Apart was a reaction to Joyce Carey's Mister Johnson and Joseph Conrad's The Heart of Darkness. Things Fall Apart is the greatest African novel ever. It's also on the list of the 100 greatest novels ever written in English language. And talk of the 10 best English novels of all time,it's also on the list. Not quite long, the British public voted it as the 5th greatest novel written in English language. I'm a Yoruba and I love Soyinka style of writing, but when it comes to prose narrative, set forth in a compelling and moving fashion, it's got to be Achebe in Africa and elsewhere. Not many tell stories like him.
Yeah... Achebe is king when it comes to prose narrative. He made me more interested in learning more about the Igbo culture then, Adichie came and she toed the same line. Soyinka and Achebe are not the same thing, despite their works. We don't need the Nobel to tell us what books to read.
Must women suffer all the time? I guess it's african mentality
Must everything criticism always be African mentality? So it's now unsafe to have an opposing view of an idea? Mind you, the foreigners who you think fall head over heels for these technological development are also divided.
HigherEd: This is how companies die out. When you don't have proper corporate governance and begin to have scenarios where the Company founder is entrenching his children into managerial positions you know you have a problem.
You don't see Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Warren Buffet breed their children as successors because It usually ends badly.
What do you say about the Chaebols of South-Korea?
I don't know for the lady but as for Jaymikee, I really appreciate his talents in music and graphics and that alone has made up for the 'fineness' of the couple.
sheggsliveth: Can invite you to my street on Sunday you see how disturbance they are....I go to church. only have Sunday to rest most time but you hardly sleep or think of you life and their attitude is as bad as SNAKE.MIND YOU AM NOT A SAINT.
Actually I also get tired of what you're talking about. But the fact is, the spiritual is real whether people are hypocritical or not. So I can't make my spirituality dependant on people's truthfulness. I have to ignore the people, then go for what I want in the spirit realm. So you see, religion and spirituality are close but they're not the same.
doggedfighter: Are you an illiterate? I don't understand
That's a sarcasm there. You can't say you don't trust anybody because nobody is trustworthy, you'd still have some people to trust even if it's not an absolute trust.
NGpatriot: The word genius was used based on her talent, skill, dedication to duty and what she achieved in a very short period was the context, obviously, you don't know her and you know nothing about her accomplishments so I do understand your ignorance.
She's not a genius because she was hired by a bigger organization, but she was hired by a bigger organization because if her talent and capacity to do what many leaders in Nigeria couldn't do in little or not time.
The bigger organization recognized her genius and talent so your headache with the word genius is pretty much irrelevant.
She's not even on this forum to examine whether I've criticised the accolades given to her or not, and if she's here, she won't want to show. So in the first place, I know my comment is irrelevant but you shouldn't have discredited yourself by using words you might not want to use on first physical contact with me. You're not toxic in person, are you? So why try making me to believe so? As for the woman, I've not even heard about her before talk more of knowing her. All I did was to question the word 'genius' and you could have done better telling me her accomplishments. Either way, thanks for letting me know the context of the word 'genius'
