These people just hate us! http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/295001 A Voice of Nigeria senior correspondent in South Africa has lamented the unfortunate spate of attacks on immigrants in South Africa. Xenophobic violence exploded in South Africa in 2008 and scores of people were killed and more than 100,000 people displaced. On Tuesday police arrested ten persons in connection to recent xenophobic violence in Kya Sands, Johannesburg after 6 foreigners were reportedly injured in fresh xenophobia violence. In an interview with this reporter, Collins Atohengge said 10 African immigrants have died since the end of the FIFA World Cup, confirming the fears of many that attacks on foreigners would resume after the first mundial on African soil. What are the nationalities of immigrants affected in recent xenophobic attacks? Actually it’s not restricted to Zimbabweans, but I will say for now they are the most hit, Somalians have died, at least about six Somalians have died so far, they listed some countries which included Nigeria, Mozambique, Malawi and Ghana that they don't want in their midst and its so unfortunate that’s its happening in South Africa, shortly after the World Cup. So these deaths were after the World Cup? Oh yes, ten people have died since, after the world cup in the hands of hoodlums, who according to government, they are hoodlums or miscreants who are perpetrating the xenophobia attacks. Are these attacks spread across South Africa or just restricted to Johannesburg? Its not restricted to Johannesburg, , it started in Western Cape where a Somalian was shot in his shop and two other Somalians were forced to move away; and the type of thing that is happening here is that once the police goes into some where may be to preserve or ensure the safety of people, before you know it they will move to another place. So they moved to Kya Sands, its a township in the north of Johannesburg and no one knows exactly were they will move to and since they are miscreants they don't care about any thing, so one would be surprised where they going to, that’s the truth. Is it true that South Africans who are angry with corruption and infrastructural problem are venting their anger on immigrants? If you are angry with the government, you don't begin to fight foreigners, and that is misplaced anger to be more precise and if they have any reason to fight their government, then they should fight without endangering the life of innocent foreigners; use Nigeria for example, how would that make the government to be up its responsibility, so that’s not an excuse. Generally there are some people in South Africa who believe that foreigners have come to take over their businesses and among those that are actually saying it are people who doesn't even work. They can't work, you see them from morning till evening they are drunk and then at the slightest provocation they draw out knives and guns, so that really is very painful on a general note. What are the police doing in this regard? In the very case of Kya Sands, for instance, the police had to use rubber bullets and they employed the use of helicopter and started driving people from the streets who were involved. Foreigners in Kya Sands, were beginning to pack their wares. If you go the border between South Africa and Zimbabwe, you will see truck load of Zimbabweans who are leaving. Implication Not quite a week ago, so many locals in Western Cape was lamenting the departure of foreigners because they are now forced to go to super markets, they are now forced to go long distances to go and buy things and they buy it at a much more expensive rate. So sometimes you begin to imagine of what benefit is it. You find a Nigerian for example that is here in Johannesburg has business employing thirty South Africans, the business will close and they will become much more unemployed. The South African youth and liberation history The unfortunate thing is that the average South African youth does not know the history of the liberation in his country which African nations contributed, I had to tell somebody for instance that for 15years, I was contributing a percentage of my salary for the liberation of South Africa. Voice of Nigeria was a member of the National Action Committee against Apartheid and I produced three programmes: Freedom Our Goal, South Africa for Us and Letter to My Brother in Kiswahili to fight the Apartheid regime. Now if they are not aware of what material and financial and diplomatic effort that Nigeria had put into the liberation of South Africa from Apartheid, not only Nigeria, Ghana, why won't they stand up to fight Nigerians. |
Please watch out http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/295085 Report: Laptop, Wi-Fi radiation may affect male fertility By Igor I. Solar. + Buenos Aires - Argentine researchers have found that radiation emitted by an Internet-connected computer resting on the user’s legs may affect male fertility by reducing sperm motility and fragmenting DNA. The research, first in the world on the subject, was carried out by experts from Nascentis, a reproductive medicine center located in Córdoba, Argentina. The results of the study will be presented at the 66 Congress of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) taking place in October in Denver, USA. The researchers (led by Conrado Avendaño, a biochemist specializing in andrology, in collaboration with Ariela Mata, reproductive biology specialist and César Sánchez Sarmiento, director of the medical center, among others) demonstrated that the motility of spermatozoa is impaired when these cells are exposed to the radiation from laptops, according to a report published in the Córdoba newspaper “La Voz” (in Spanish). For this study, the researchers evaluated semen samples from healthy donors with no history of recent illnesses. Each sample was divided into two equal fractions, which were placed in separate temperature-controlled rooms. One of the sub-samples was incubated under a laptop connected to the Internet, to replicate the conditions that occur when a man places the computer on his lap. "After four hours of incubation of sperm under the two different conditions, we found that in the sample exposed to the laptop, a large percentage of the sperm cells were affected," said Dr. Avendaño to "La Voz”. The investigator concludes that their study shows that exposure of sperm to the radiation from the device did not kill the sperm cells, but affected their motility. Further, by evaluating the sperm cells’ DNA integrity, they found that there was a significant difference between both sub-samples: "The fraction exposed to radiation had a significant increase in sperm cells with fragmented (broken) DNA," said Avendaño. The findings are important because previous studies on reproductive medicine have shown that some of the problems in fertilization and embryonic development are caused by damage in the DNA molecules of the sperm. While agreeing that further research on the matter is required, the researchers advise men to avoid holding laptop computers on the legs, "especially if they are connected to Internet through Wi-Fi." This research brings new knowledge on the effects of electromagnetic fields (EMF) on human health. EMF levels from Wi-Fi devices are much lower than those emitted by mobile phones, and there is less public concern on potential health issues for wireless LAN devices. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) claims that if a person spends one year in a Wi-Fi hot-spot, they will receive a dose of radio waves equivalent to a 20-minute call on a mobile phone. Often wireless access points are in close proximity to humans, but the drop off in the already low power over distance is fast, following the inverse-square law (*). Nonetheless, the results of this study suggest that when a laptop is operated for long periods, the close proximity to the source of the EMF may affect a male user sensitive reproductive cells causing damage to DNA and reducing sperm cell motility. (*) The radiation passing through any unit area is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the source. |
Nymph node:My fear is that this may open a route to some criminal undertaking Who will ask for these children if the man decides to use them for whatever - prostitution, ritual killing, sexual abuse? The commercial transaction that produced the children may also point to a lack of emotion on the parents' part |
Chongaiman:Obj caused the problem Shortly after taking power in 1999, Obj had a confrontation with the NASS Obj had just taken some actions that people liked The public clearly sided with Obj and it was not difficult for him to face down the NASS then But when he started sliding, the NASS regained relevance and close to the end of his 1st term NASS began a very serious impeachment process Had Obj remained focussed on performance and becoming a statesman, the NASS could not have touched him at anytime I see his main problem as the need to refer things to NASS for approval An egoistic dictator finds that hard to take |

kobikwelu:and they have also yielded the largest jump in the level of unemployment in the US since the great depression And did he really starve business of fund? He provided N620b to some banks and he is giving N500b to the real sector |

hugooh42:Thanks for reminding me The Uba case is an impeachable offence anywhere there are men of goodwill The ransacking of Anambra was to pave way for a declaration of a state of emergency I cannot understand why anybody from anambra can bear to stay in the same room with such a person BTW the police commissioner who was in Anambra and who claimed that the police could not match the thugs was OGBAUDU He was later posted to Port Harcourt That Ogbaudu case was the first time the Nigerian Police had ever conceded victory to criminals I reckon that Ogbaudu would in due course join his felow felons in getting a national award for "selfless" service - CON may be appropriate we really can fill numerous pages with the Obj's monumental unpatriotic acts |
Ileke-IdI:No you misunderstand metruly link=topic=492159.msg6525467#msg6525467 date=1281107271:nah, we gotta wait another few centuries for that The scientist will only get an award if that discovery will make it possible for the ruling party to rig massively WITHOUT detection this is like making it possible to commit a perfect crime! |
seanet02:What did she do for this country? like browbeating Ayoka to come out of hiding to announce the result of the Ekiti rerun election in favour of PDP or telling us that without the OB equipment, FIFA would not allow us to host the U-17 competition Anyway she got her contract from the NASS But months after the competition, no OB equipment I never saw Dora speaking out the truth passionately to Yaradua when the gentleman was firmly in power, sick or not or BTW any president |
Beaf:There was no gaffe by the minister Go and read up on this matter NNPC GMD, Oniwon, WROTE to FAAC that NNPC was insolvent Babalola simply read that letter maybe writing it is not a crime, but reading it aloud is Aganga has only one junior minster BTW |
Ileke-IdI:No. Unless the scientific discovery will revolutionalise election rigging |
DaddyO:my DISDAIN for Obj grows in leaps and bounds daily. Whatever the expectations of people, he only speaks partial truth. I cannot imagine the likes of IBB, Atiku or Tinubu being as hypocritical as an Obj railing against corruption whilst being enmeshed in it You will reacall that when Obj was carrying on about corruption and disqualifying every body in 2007, IBB just pointed out cooly that Obj's administration was not not saintly Of course, Obj kept quiet And don't forget his fray with Orji Kalu Orji Kalu said that Obj could not accuse of stealing that he had mkney before coming into government and that he donated N100m to Obj's campaign Obj said that Kalu donated the money to PDP Kalue countered that the cheque was cleared through Obj' account Obj kept quiet The Federal government had enough evidence to nail Makanjuola - Obj's cousin - for corruption Suddenly Obj' Justice Minister - Kanu Agabi - withdrew the case from court via a nolle prosequi He harrases legislators for being corrupt, but his daughter is one of them. When his daughter was being sought by EFCC for the Health Ministry scam, did he speak the truth by asking Iyabo to show up? No he did not He always accused Atiku of corruption, but when the chips were down we saw a cheques on PTDF account in favour of ladies, and companies related to Obj Obj gave the contract for incorporation of Galaxy backbone to his friend and lawyer, Afe Babalola. That job cost all of us N250m - for just 1 company Obj without due process and budgetary approval mobilised contractors to start work on Abuja stadium How much did the project cost us Obj said Atiku got a friend to front for him to buy AP; Atiku denied it, Obj continued to insist Meanwhile, Obj was buying shares in Transcorp Obj hated corruption so much that he started bribing legislators to amend the constitution to allow a 3rd term He knew Yaradua was sick, but continued to say that electing him (Yaradua) was a do-or-die affair. Why? Without legislative approval, he signed away Bakassi Obj vetoed the Freedom of Information Bill after the legislature has approved it Obj asked the legislators for N1b to hold a national conference The NASS said no, insisting that the presidency had enough money to organise the event Suddenly this money materialised from the presidency and Obj organised the event without additional budgetary approval So what would have happended to that money without the conference being held? When Bola Ige died, Obj pretended to be sad But subsequent events revealed that he is a cheap liar The judge resigned because he was being pressured from unexpected quarters Obj said he said that he had been trying to see Debo Akande - the prosecutor Debo Akande simply pointed out that there is no Nigerian who has not gone into hiding that the president would like to see and would be able to avoid the president for even 1 week Obasanjo in the twilight of his administration suddenly announced that the police - under that despicable Ehindero - had made a breakthrough in the Bola Ige's case So who is the culprit - one drug baron, masked speaking to journalist behind a screen to whom questions could not be put And has the man be prosecuted? May be tommorrow In 2007, nobody was allowed to contest freely against Obj's candidates People were just being indicted and disqualified At first, Tejuoso who was to stand against Obj's daughter was indicted and disqualified When people pointed out that Tejuoso had never being in government and wondered why he was being indicted they hurriedly reversed the indictment We can fill 5 pages here with FACTUAL account of Obj's misdemeanors |
blank:Was that really an inappropriate forum - addressing members of MAN? |
Jahba:IBB cannot be power drunk and be seeking relevance at the same time - choose one IBB is not the only one talking about PDP constitution - PDP chairman Nwodo has talked about it PDP constitution say that you cannot take the party to court and people have been living with that Remember that PDP joined PDP willingly and that is due to the right of association in the federal constitution But you have to respect rules of your own party. Our constitution does not allow you to be an independent candidate Actually, IBB is helping with this communication Suppose he had waited till the eve of the convention to point to this clause The people who are taking advantage are the people assuring you that zoning is dead while it is still in the PDP constitution |
Kidnappers do not usually use their phones (and their own SIM card) to make calls to demand ransome Using the victim's phone (and SIM card) achieves at least 2 benefits They easily get the numbers of the victim's relatives (husband, wife, children) from the victim's phone The victim's relatives can easily confirm (from the call from the victim's line) that the caller is in touch with the kidnapped person It is hard to believe that armed robbers cannot rob people of their registered SIM in order to use same to make calls I reckon that just like people report the theft of their cars to the police in order to avoid beong linked with any possible crime comiitted with the car People will report loss of SIM card for that same purpose I mean, people do not report robbery of cars simply for the purpose of the recovery of the car - primary reason is to avoid police trouble |
Too late! The man has been impeached! |
We need death penalty If Ogbulafor can lose the chairmaship of PDP for an issue involving less then N200m why do we need to keep these guys for a crime involving N4b? With N4b, I can become the governor of a state Is this how we want our governors to emerge As far as I am concerned, bullets are not enough! Straping a bullet to people will be better The chinese should go to their country to get what is due to them I can argue that their destination is China and they wanted to rebag at Iganmu BTW I am not afraid of retaliation by the chinese IF Nigerians are truly guilty, what is the problem - execute them Anybody who can traffick drugs in China will kill in Nigeria |
Foreigners treat ALL Nigerians - male and female - badly in Nigeria A few years ago, an Indian company locked up Nigerians (typical and ongoing practice) in their factory at Ikorodu When a fire broke out, many Nigerians were killed what happened? Oh, the company got a bigger land It was not long ago that HFP, Julius Berger etc stopped using converted containers to transport their Nigerian workers Go to any factory owned by foreigners and see how our countrymen are treated A newspaper once reported that a foreigner once threatened a Roads Safety Officer at a check point (were I a policeman and I was there, I would kill the guy (even if he is the ambassador) first and contempplate the consequences later) I know a Nigerian who was threatened with mortal a few years ago by the man running Lagoon Restaurant Nigerians are third class citizens in their country! |
Problem is they don't wait for God to answer prayers when they are seeking offices They take matters into their hands - assasination, thuggery, intimidation, rigging, blackmail, impeachments, removing opponents from office But when Nigerians ask for performance, they suddenly become God fearing - we should trust God, pray etc |
Jakumo:Do I like the Abachas? NO But we can still moderate our language |
How can one compare Tinubu to PDP - the cradle of corruption Look at the people Tinubu served with - Daniel, Agagu, Ladoja/Akala Chimaroke Nnamani, Ibori, Lucky Igbinedion, Odili The Fed allocation when these people served was much lower than what governors are sharing now Even then, Obj witheld federal allocation from Tinubu on account of his creation of additional LGs So it is statistically wrong to compare Chime and Amaechi to Tinubu in terms of resources Notwithstanding I live in Lagos, let us name the projects done by these people BTW Amaechi was one of those who advised Johnathan to send footbal into the wilderness for 2 years while Dophins players had not reciced salary for 6 months |
na_so:Would this argument not have been used against him in both 2003 and 2007 elections? FYI when he was president his minister of petroleum resources was Tam David West When Britain refused to extradite Dikko (a Northerner) for serious corruption charges, he arranged to kidnap the man and bring him to Nigera And please point to 5 southerners who are not tribalistic? lord krato:And by the way, this person is saying that he would not be working for the North Ltrust:What modern world? The one of bankole, Ibori, uduaghan, Kalu etc who are even more corrupt than the "oldies?" I would rather vote for an old man than a bunch of youthful high tech thieves! Seriously, it does not matter very seriously if we want to vote for GJ by all means But let us be honest about it and stop using arguments that are untrue For instance, do we think the North will not be able to argue that GJ is tribalistic? If we want to argue that Nothern candidates are tribalistic, then we must not support any candidate on account of his tribe |

Obalende:Who is the society for - the criminals or the innocent? It is disheartening to see people rationalising gradual tyranny The issue of foreign brokers is vastly different from a situation when any provocation can result in the death of innocent people Awosika, Apo 6 are still fresh in our minds So who are protecting while killing innocent people By the way, only special policemen (raiders) engage armed robbers So the regular policemen are terrified of them Check out what they did at ETB Ketu I watched an old film recently - Casablanca - and discovered how policemen just waste lives of innocent people just to be able to report action The issue of kidnapping goes beyond SIM card registration and shooting people on the spot What happens to the victims when you are opening fire A friend was once robbed of his car and also held hostage by the robbers He wasin their convoy car as they raided other cards and engaged policemen He was eventually realeased close to the border with Benin republic |

vinmol:I still feel bad about Kudirat's death - anybody with any sense of justice should But what the man is saying is conclude the case - either for or against Al Mustapha In the US, many people lost their fortune (and some eventually their life) because of the Madoff swindle But we know that Madoff case has been concluded - so cause of justice is served na_so:Dikko is a northern muslim like Buhari, but he still went after him because of his corruption I have no problem with that Read history - the situation at the time necessitated that It was a decision that Nigerians overwhelmingly supported Drunk:The relationship between Obj and Buhari is now such that if Buhari had stolen PTDF money, Obj would have nearly hung him Obj would have used EFCC to stop him from contesting either in 2003 and 2007 ~Bluetooth:It is easy to see Buhari as simply a coup planner But if you listen to people who were around - people were fed up with NPN in 1983 Remember that the man struck after a shameful election, not before Don't forget that Nigerians still mutter about the Rawlings solution even in present day Nigeria Obj was originally a product of a coup Vainglory:can you prove this? And did he work with southerners as a president - remember that Tam David West was his Minister of Petroleum - not Rilwan Lukman Did he allow professionals to work with him? There is nobody without blame I really feel that Nigeria needs to empower a leader who has a mind of his own and is truly anti-corruption When you say Buhari is a jihadist, remember that he used to adore Obj but somehow things went awry between them - what happened Please google the interview he granted to Sun My view is that we may look back several years from now and regret missing an opportunity because we were looking for a saint As we can see from other posts on NL, even the religious leaders are not saints |
One of the problems I have with analysts here we just believe everything that is negative about people we dislike and doubt negative facts about those we like Army and Navy are spending N500b on procurement What about airforce? What about salaries and other recurrent expenditure? Yet somebody has posted the entire budget = N4.6tr - it has even been revised to N4.4tr Defence spending in that budget is N217b |
