opposition to which govt. Notable figures of progress include Bishop Ajayi Crowther who helped in developing literacy and Sapara Williams, the first lawyer in Nigeria |
Sanity is coming in the fullness of time. block by block, roof by roof and dollar by dollar ill-gotten Property will CHANGE hands. Change is here! |
Aegon:sir, I took time to check some of your previous posts and I am impressed by your desire to serve in the military and your knowledge of military tactics. With this, you have a great future. My counsel, if I may, is this: air your views with the temparament of liberal education - refraining from prejudicial remarks in the face of provocation. Do not give up on military ambition. cheers |
DeeMain:Hesitant like is golden where insults are freely dished out. be that as it may. nothing would give me joy than to see culprits serve jail terms or some of community service as punishment. I know an ex NANS president now in jail for collecting less than 1m under disputed circumstances of studentship and unionism. There are more suspects outside jail than I side jail yet the jail ie bursting at the seams. in any event, some will go to jail for evasion or obstruction of justice. But let's hold our noses to collect our money. It is always to be remembered that even if we preach with fire sons of Lucifer will eventually go to hell. N.B. accept, patriotically, my 'provional like' lol. |
staymore:In the US, a Secretary ( minister) is higher than a senator except the Speaker and the President Pro tempore of the Senate. governors come after a senator in federal prorocol unless it an event holding in the governor's state. then he comes after the vice president. Nigeria mostly follows US protocol except in the case of Senate president being higher than the speaker. Minister of finance is first among equals. SGF comes after ministers - subject to presidential assignment. |
xtrorse:hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Allahu Akbar. May God have mercy. I spoke no evil about any tribe. no one should be angry with vipers who can only but spit venom and vermins. |
ZKOSOSO:To speak against corruption is to speak against south? why not insist on investigation of all leaders wealth instead of let by gone be by gone. the gospel of 'bygones' is half truth.restitution is the full gospel truth. I am not interested in anyone going to jail, for all have sinned. but let anyone with tax payers money return them conscientiously and go home - and sin no more! |
To accuse a former Lagos State Gov of misappropriating 78 million Nair without a shred of evidence is a badge of integrity. It could have been worse. Now we can boldly say that BRF has requisite values for leadership. |
xtrorse:May God deliver you, OK. Back to the Bona fide audience: Yorubas do not worship names and money. famous (not notorious) rich people are respected. anyone who is not submerged in the miasma of primitive aggrandizement will see how ridiculously pointless it is to see Yoruba world through the wealth of Otedolas. I am not saying this to please anyone nor will I change my view on the account of virulent propaganda for or against my ethnicity, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili is a role model all Women should emulate. not least because she speaks truth-to-power. for Yoruba and Igbo haters alike, let no man trouble me for I bear the mark of the Lord! |
AuntySusan:Well then ma, maybe I am not an ideal person to debate the merits of appointment with. Yorubas who complained are the PDP stock. They mainstream Progressives even rejected speakership. We careless about anything that cannot change the prize of Garri. If your ideology does not connect with the intelligenstia of Great Ife, UI, UNILAG and the rebel Wild Wild Wild West media, you are on your own even if you were the President and son of the Soil. ObJ lost to less known Olu Falae in his (obj) ward. Falae is from Ondo state. Today Obj in the west mainstream will flog Falae in Ondo State. Obj could not enter Ife (OAU) because of idelogical uprising. Today, he will be celebrated. what made the difference 'ideology' not office. Ebenzer Babatope who should be De jure leader of Yorubas can no longer mobilize the ideological base. why? he is of the reactionary PDP base. If Ezekwesili joins PDP today with her ideological mien intact, she will be celebrated and respected in the West more than the reactionary son of the soil. Awo baptized Yorubas with activism not office. Nonetheless any office that comes as of democratic right will be ideologocally defended in the West. Ask yourself, why is Tinubu so popular without holding national office like Dimeji Bankole or Obj It is not Because of money. Harry Akande is richer by far, Buruji is heavily endowed but Tinubu knows when to promote a prince to "kinghood"as in BRF and Osinbajo. get the Machiavellian drift? It was rumoured that he wanted to change BRF in 2011 but he knew that the masses will revolt. so Tinubu swims in the direction of popular demand ideologically. I am not saying he is a saint or there are no exceptions to the general rule. But the golden rule is that you must be ideologically grounded. Osun people are sympathetic towards Aregbesola because of the ideologocal adventure of empowerment which shattered the state but. again am not debating the wisdom of his choice. the whole point is that Ideology which kept Yorubas in opposition since 1960 is more appealing than official titles. we have a saying "we listen to a child who complains of lack of food and not the one who complains of lack of meat." once the system eliminates hunger and deprivation, the rest is by the way. let those prosper who show the power to triumph. |
AuntySusan:You have made valid points ma. however if you look at my post, the issue is far beyond who gets what, where and how for me - in terms of appointment. As a Yoruba, a may protest my exclusion from power. But as a human being I must not forget that I am not the only one so excluded. and that mine is a thousand times better than others. Let me tell you that there are only 109 senatorial seat a in Nigeria and there over 250 ethnic groups. in other words some ethnic groups cannot boast of a single senatorial seat! that for me is gross injustice. it may be argued that they are minorities. for that I adopt the view of Laski that; the Lion may roar to express hunger, the cat may bellow a gentle meow. we do not know the starving sound of an ant, but each is ezpressing at its utmost the same biological need. It may sound quite naive in Nigeria to argue that we should not complain of exclusion from power insofar we are not under the basis of that exclusion also denied the ends to which power is devoted. It has to be proved first that, those who are included have certain social and economic advantage over those who are excluded. Northern Nigeria has little to show for inclusion. Nothing shows that "Ibogun" of OBJ or Ikenne of Awo ever produced leaders that transformed other places. I am not making any case for the character of this two leaders here- just proving a point. with the many LGs Chairmen, Reps, comissiomers, Govs, senators, ministers of the big tribes what is the significant advantage in terms of human capital development. So AuntySusan, appointments is not truly worthy of humanitarian debate, in fact it does injustice to our education - in terms of intellectual priorities. GEJ is not as bad as his harshest critics ascert nor PMB as good as his greatest advocates sing. But that is hardly the point if we are discussing way forward in a theatre of war. It may serve some academic purposes to know exactly how good or how bad or it maybe gratifying for the fans of both leaders. But at this time of the day, 5:24 am, my joy is the voice I have added to clamour for social justice going forward. good morning. |
AuntySusan:Ma, it is one thing to hate a person and it is another thing to hate what a person stands for. Both may coincide in an individual because of prejudice which may be mutual. My observation in Nairaland is that people are hardly objective. In 2011 I was in court to defend GEJ right to contest and I led a detachment of his campaign successfully. Nobody saw him from Igbo perspective then. Some people dared the President and the nation through terror and corruption and brought the country to its kneels. GEJ response can be summarized as: they want to spoil my govt so that I as a minority will not be reelected. This was the point where majority of Igbos and Niger Deltans moved in to get GEJ reelected. Ma, when people are dying of terror, hunger and destitution and you saw it basically from "they hate me point of view" then they for God sake don't deserve to continue in their misery under you even if you deserve the privilege of leading them. For me the Chibok girls saga was the turning point. Nobody gets a second chance for doubting whether his daughter has been kidnapped or not or whether it was a prank or not. A crime of kidnapping over 200 girls was committed the mighty state apparatus could not ascertain its autheticity or enormity until some eternal 200 hours. when you compare Stella Oduah bullet proof cars to the immigration recruitment saga, Stella was a glorious saint. it was against this backdrop with its many wears and tears that the lately redeemed GEJ sought reelection. His supporters added to his electoral defeat by druming and dancing at the background of the wailings of the maimed, destitute, sick and the beareaved, this you will agree is not how to court the love and support of agonizing world. |
INTROVERT:just some comic relief on real life issue. |
This is purely mischievous. why are some clerks always speaking in confidence. there is freedom of information act. a diligent journalist will keep vigil at refineries to check if tankers are going in empty and coming out empty. there are operational hitches no doubt but to cast a shadow of failure on the refineries on 'conditions of anonymity' is outrageous. |
The writer is under an intellectual illusion of what propels Yoruba leaders. In so far we have federalism that is devoid of stiffling corruption, whatever happens to APC in future goes to no issue. I can understand the plight of essayists who discuss politics based on the elective fate of personalities, we have gone beyond that. The personalities mentioned will pass on but what they stood for will continue to animate the followers and as in 2015, there will be light at the end of each tunnel. |

in the fullness of time or is it FOOLness! it is just sad. btw ut is wrong to blame the northern elites for southern woes. souherners are no less guilty. happily, change is here! |
chidiokoye444:I am Yoruba. I admit you have made more noble sense to me than every post I have read today. Yes it is good to stand up for who you are but if you have to do this by standing on others, it is not worth it. When you stand on the word of God: "Ye are a holy nation" you can only smile at those who are ignorant of your worth notwithstanding the circumstances of your birth. |
scholes0:follow peace with all men |
shachris02:You will be an excellent lawyer in cross-examination of prosecution witnesses. I find your argument plausible. but if I were a judge in this matter, the suspect must pay with jail term under Strict liability Rule. I can let you off if you show remorse but you must lose your job and attend counseling. on the ground that your victim is an adult. but if you bring up consent as defence, I will have you know that as a teacher you have a strict responsibility to avoid dalliance with any student under your care. it is not necessary for the girl to be s student of your school or class. once you have at least a remote influence over her, even if she is of age, it is a no go area. if she is not of age, the suspect is doubly damned! |
ladyF:The lecturer deserves double punishment as a strict liability for what he did to his charge - the girl. having said that, the girl's story shows some shocking naivety. the man had shown he was a devil an hour before the deed. but the girl thought she had a long spoon. lesson: flee all appearances of evil! |
I have been a change agent and I will remain one. however I must join well meaning Nigerians to call for caution. public interest can be anything at any time so it is shocking to penalize anyone over public interest if it is not codified in a written law. Kaduna State Govt must be preapared to compensate anyone with genuine C of O. that is the law under fundamental rights and land use act. any official policy to the contrary must be applied in accordance with the overriding provisions if the constitution. |
The cookie crumbles. Now a good reason to wail. You certainly cannot compare the mutiny of PDP foot soldiers asking for the head of their Generals with the maneuver of APC young Turks - asking for a seat at the table. |
laurel03:systemic discipline is already evident with gradual results. |
That may not happen. the role of SGF will be strictly bureaucratic under PMB. To hold RT.Hon Amaechi down with SGF will certainly do injustice to his fighting spirit. He may be the one to take on contractors or other slippery merchants. |
An ordinary guest does not leave police station on admin bail. if 'symptoms' persist for 4hrs, get a lawyer. otherwise long cold nights await you in Kirikiri |
Mark4reel:Am glad I did. The deep calls only unto the deep. |
Change is here. accountability is here. Baba has been giving us "Changemicin" in the right doses. Full recovery is coming in the fullness of time. If there is any drug for acute paranoia give it to those that need to calm down. |
symbolic gesture of : it takes a village to raise a child. |
zendy:I now see your point. the right to self determination. slavery, tribal wars, outcasts, twins killing, women repression were all present in the Free pre-colonial Nigeria. 250 ethnically seregated Niger area will transform freedom into its grimmest image. Of course, no matter the peril of the jungle a free bird is a free bird until it becomes a prey of the treacherous jungle! good luck. |
Change! this is the difference between leaders who make undue profit from the agony of her citizens and leaders who make name by alleviating the agony of citizens. We are proud of the new leaders of Change! |
zendy:This is very noble. The little fear is that the envisaged "freedom" may not be attained after the war. Freedom is hollow and barren if it does not bring peace. From Iraq to Sudan and USSR, the glarring lesson is that: armed conflict will remain a war of peacekeeping long decades after the war is over whilst dialogue will yield progress even in the pendency of cold war. I think this is nobler, my brother. Another question is: how many souls of the weak, children, women, sick are you willing to sacrifice so as to have your idea of freedom? will the sufferings of these class of people not be a bondage far agonizing than current burden of political exclusion which you claimed has been trusted on you? What benefit has the poor urchins in Kaduna or Osun has over the ones in Ebonyi? Will it not be nobler to fight for social justice in your homeland than to wage war over the privileges of elective or appointive offices? Does it not shock you that the media has brainwashed its readers to ignore their rights and focus on the privileges of our leaders. Alas. we are now part of the treachery - albeit unwittinly! |
