Mass Job Loss For Married Women In Gloworld Department Of Globacom

A report just got in now that there have been a massive job loss for all married women in Gloworld department of Globacom Nigeria Ltd today. This is a sad development as this implies that you're not expected to marry and bear children once you're an employee of the organization. I expect that the women rights organisation take this up worldwide to stop a reoccurrence in future. No compensation was paid to them even after working for close to fifteen years in the organization. This can only happen in naija.

Anybody can quote me wrong. The truth is some jobs can not wait for this maternity leave every time especially when there are too many ladies there. Where I worked before, a multinational GSM company from South Africa, in my unit about 3 ladies may be on maternity leave at once, and some in a pregnancy state which reduces input to the business cos they can't do much. As a result there is shortage in input which affects general output. Also some go for maternity check up days and even some would just not be in the office due to maternity related health issue. The industry is competitive, and the business owner has the sole discretion to restructure as he pleases. Anyone who is not okay with the employers decision can go into his or her own business.

Hello Guys
The story is not too Long but I will just want to know you opinion and advice, if possibly HELP OF ANOTHER JOB, please no insult.......

Am a graduate of Office Technology & Management with 4 years experience on Secretary, Front Desk, & Customer Service.... staying at Ajah Lagos

Ending of January I got a job through nairaland, the office is at Ajah, I was looking forward to work at ajah because I have an elderly woman am looking after, I don't want to work very far...
I was called for interview as a Secretary, on getting to the office, it was not what I was having in mind, the office is actually in a plaza, very small one at that, so i went in & was interviewed and salary was discussed, it was a very small amount for a graduate, but it's better than staying at home and I have huge responsibility, so I accepted the offer and to start working February.o

Oe week I discovered I was the only employee, anyone he interviewed on phone after coming to see the office they ran away because of the office Condition.. In the office No system to work with, only one lap top used by the boss alone, only one standing fan facing him alone, he promised to get my system, and new standing fan the day he was interviewing me, but he didn't, I doo come to work with a hand fan, and goes home smelling sweat, buying sure & rolling like mad..

I have never done anything relating to what I was employed for, what I do is going errands for him, he sends me out to many places, to go meet friends, collect receipts and all that are very far place, I endured through till it's time to pay me, he started posting me, today tomorrow, this evening, tomorrow morning, this afternoon, EVEN when I told home I need to go for my late father burial arrangements on Sunday cos I work Saturday, he said he would send my salary and he didn't...

Then one Sunday he called me to come to office to come collect my salary, I was happy at least am getting paid for my sweat.... getting to the office, he handed over the money to me I counted it, and I discovered the money was short of 5k, I asked he said the 5 thousand was for TAX.......I was speechless at first,. because he didn't tell me anything as such and how is 5k for TAX only, This is the money after paying all my debt am left with nothing.............
Very heartless person. Most of dem usually ask for sex before they help. Useless person.

KNEO777:
A married Nigerian man who took his ''young girlfriend'' out on a movie date at Filmhouse got more than he bargained for after his wife showed up and created a scene.

According to an eye witness, the said wife trailed her husband and his alleged girlfriend to Filmhouse, Lekki, today, March 3rd 2018.

On getting there, she approached her husband's vehicle and told the girlfriend to wind down the window after which she gave her two heavy slaps, asking her to step out of the vehicle while shouting ''He is a married man''

Infuriated by his wife's actions, the husband pulled out his belt and began flogging his wife with it.  The wife ran back to her vehicle for safety and tried to drive out but her husband blocked her, asking her to return the SUV as he bought it for her.

LASTMA officials had to intervene to stop the husband from beating his wife further.

Like u rightly said. Those firms need ur intellect. I remember sometime in 2008/2009 I was working for MTN. There was this guy with ordinary ND certificate, but he had some great reporting skills which the management saw as useful t the business At a point, this guy became very relevant in his reporting and analysis skill that the business needed him more than even the so called with good university grades. Even while some people were being sacked, this guy could not be sacked because of his very rare skill that was helping the executivea take decisions. He resigned by himself later, and while resigning, the company still begged him to help pass the knowledge. U dey here dey talk nonsense say 2.2 no be certificate. gentlegenius:
Someone asked you a good question here... What do they value?
Even if you don't know the answer to this, you can start making research and findings to discover what people in your area value so much. Then give that to them. By so doing you'll satisfy a need and make lots of money for yourself.

Value creation is what makes people rich, not jobs.
Unfortunately, nobody taught us this in school. School trains us to become employees, even in this era of no jobs, our parents and the government still deceives us that education from school is the key. When we suffer through school for many years and obtain this key, we become frustrated because the government themselves had changed the padlock, and the key we acquired becomes almost useless in our hands.
I can happily trade my certificate for any amount of money that is big enough to help me start a good investment.
I have already rejected many teaching jobs that promised a paycheck of 20-25k a month because I have learned now that investment is the key to riches, not jobs. I am better off staying idle than being underemployed.
I also regretted wasting my time and money in school because schools(especially in Nigeria) are not training people to succeed in life.
Education is good and it is actually the key. But the right kind of education that can help one to succeed in life is not taught in schools. They simply waste our time loading us with academics instead of education. Most of the world's richest and successful people didn't graduate from any school. Some simply dropped out of school when they discovered that schools are useless and will not offer them the right education they needed for success. Sadly, most parents in this country including mine have a wrong mentality about schools because they don't know that the world has changed.
My perspective about this issue changed only a few months ago when I started reading Robert Kiyosaki's books. If you haven't read a book called Rich Dad Poor Dad, pls find it and read it asap.
May God bless u so much beyond expectations. You have said it all.

You people should stop writing ignorantly.

Which bank will they put out of business ?

Won't banks charge for commision on ur transfers ?

Will your salary be paid into Watzapp ?

They just keep writing rubbish with silly sensational headlines
We are all learned people. The poster has a point. The truth is a wallet system will be created by Whatsapp for your banking transactions, and of course people would eventually move some amount of their monies to the Whatsapp wallet to facilitate quick transactions. When monies are moved to wallets, its an
electronic thing, and the values move easily. A mobile wallet is like your personal mini bank just like ur purse or pocket wallet. Inter and intra bank transactions fees would still apply, but bank deposits will reduce.
Also, the varying payments platforms in Nigeria that provides VTU and other pay services like Nepa,Dstv and GOTV services should brace up as these might eventually be brought into Whatsapp payment platform as well.

One of the greatest problems confronting governments around the world is that of unemployment. It has been the sole reason why an administration was voted out and why another was elected. Needless to say, one of the shiny promises of the present regime in government during the election period was that it would create 3 million jobs. The Donald Trump’s administration considers lower rate of employment as one of its greatest successes.

This point will not cease to be an important factor in every sphere of the globe because the low rate of unemployment will translate to lower crime incidences. Yet, despite how important this is, the future doesn’t look too good. History has shown it, and the current pattern of events is already working towards that goal.

A look at history

For the sake of those who may be interested in examples, let’s take a look at one or two historical events that share a semblance with what’s playing out in our day.

The invention of earth moving machines

In the early 1900s, the construction of roads and bridges was a huge task that required a lot of manual labour. To build roads and level grounds required huge manpower with shovel, cutlasses, mules and other crude tools. As some writers put it, the whole scene pretty much seemed to be part of the Stone Age.

However, this began to change as one man, R.G. LeTourneau , wanted a way to execute the projects faster and at a cheaper cost. Being a mechanical engineer, he started inventing machines and earth moving equipments that could get the job done the way he envisioned. Within his lifetime, he had over 300 patented engineering designs and played an integral role in building some of the famous earth moving machines used during the second war.

However, this technological stride came at a price as it led to many of the people who offered their labour for money losing their means of livelihood. It was indeed a difficult moment in the United States as the news of the inventions was a sweet bitter pill which pushed the unemployment rate up.

The creation of internet phone calls

Away from this event faraway in history, let’s use another example that’s easier to grasp. Right from the invention of telephone by Alexander Graham, many people wanted an opportunity to communicate at a cheaper price. While instant messaging from AOL seemed like a good deal, people wanted to communicate better and in real time. This prayer was answered in 1995 when the first voice internet call was made, referred to as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

However, this technological upgrade took time to spread to other parts of the world. WhatsApp, for instance, though created in 2009 didn’t begin voice messaging till 2013. This technological improvement sparked problems in Nigeria (and other parts of the world) for telecommunication service providers. By 2016, Nigeria Telcos were hashing a plan to block WhatsApp and Skype because of the revenue shortfall they caused in the telecoms industry. The mere fact that the telecoms companies could agree on one thing speaks volumes.
When this didn’t work, and the companies continued to lose subscribers resulting in a sharp fall in revenue, it was time to put in desperate measures. That triggered off massive retrenchment of staff with Airtel once relieving over 3,000 of its staff of their jobs in one move. Many can still vividly remember this period. It was an avalanche of one bad news after another.

A look at the future

While there are many indications that that things are headed that route like never before, for the sake of space, let’s quickly analyze two future technological goals that are doomsday prophecies in themselves even though they are still technological advancements.

The long discussed global warming issue was one of the reasons that fuelled the invention of the electric cars. The cars would strike out the problem of emission of smoke which is bad for the environment. By 2030, most countries would have phased out the use of electric cars. This invariably means demand would drop for oil and would likely cause at least 1/3 of the workforce in oil countries lose their jobs. Consider the fact that Nigeria depends on oil as major source of income and you’d know the economic crisis that happened last year may just repeat itself soon except measures are put in place to diversify.

On the other hand, WhatsApp recently announced that it has integrated payments that would run like mobile wallet into its app. This means tougher times are coming for banks as this would mean lesser money in traditional bank accounts. You are probably aware of the mass retrenchment that happened in the banking sector last year; with this financial innovation from WhatsApp, it may just occur again in another heavy fashion.

What should a smart person think?

As more innovations are popping up to advance ease of life and business, more people are bound to lose their jobs. In all this, what should the smart person in Nigeria think? The answer....

Crime › Re: Victoria Gagariga Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Killing Husband In Bayelsa by Tunagee(m): 4:01pm On Feb 08, 2018
360frolic:
The Bayelsa State High Court preceded over by Justice Nayai Aganaba has sentenced 30-year-old Victoria Gagariga to death by hanging for killing her husband, Henry Gagariga on the 4th of February, 2015, in their Bayelsa home.

In Delivering the case is said to have lingered for 3 years after the death of the deceased, the judge said the prosecution called six witnesses and produced seven exhibits while the defence only had one witness who happened to be the accused.

Going through the records of cross-examination of the witnesses, Justice Aganaba noted that all evidences provided by the prosecution team showed that the suspect was guilty as charged and other facts also confirmed that she was the only person with the deceased as at the time of his death and so she was the one that killed him.

The accused who hails from Brass Local Government Area and is said to be an employee of the Bayelsa Arts and Culture reportedly stabbed her husband on the neck during an argument.

According to the judge, Victoria killed her husband out of jealousy and obsession.

He said;

It is unfortunate that I can only pronounce the sentence prescribed by law. I wish I had the discretion to do otherwise. However, that discretion rests with the executive governor of Bayelsa State. I am only left with the compulsion to pronounce the sentence prescribed by law. I hope that person the discretion would look at the circumstance of this case and do the needful. I hereby pronounce my sentence. My sentence upon you is that you shall hang on the neck until you die. May the Lord have mercy on your soul.

Groovenaija360:
The bill prescribing death penalty for cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping and light arms proliferation in Rivers is now at the committee stage, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The Executive Bill seeks to amend an existing law that assigned 10 years imprisonment for cultism and related offences in the state.

During debate on Wednesday, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, expressed support for the amendment process, noting that death penalty was most suitable to discourage perpetrators of such crimes.

Mr Ahiakwo Christian, representing ONELGA Constituency 1, also condemned criminal activities across the state and sued for urgent steps by the government toward ending the menace.

He said one of such actions was to prescribe stiffer punishment for culprits.
he said.

Also, the Speaker, Mr Ikuinyi Ibani, said there was the need for stiffer punishment for cultism and related offences.

He said that until the issue of light arms proliferation was well regulated, insecurity might continue to threaten humanity.

he said.

The Speaker also constituted a committee that would collate contributions and relevant reports that would enhance easy passage of the bill.

He urged members of the committee to allow contributions from stakeholders, including Civil Society Organisations and the public to enrich its report.

Also at the committee stage is a bill seeking to establish the state security outfit that will support the existing security agencies in the state.

But the reason for all Education is so one can make money, live comfortably and impact positively on others.

I would rather be rich and primitive like Davido than be erudite and POOR.
Thank u for this comment!! University certificate s in Nigeria actually leads to poverty, if u don't know what u are doing. Being skillful and ingenious determines success in addition to academic qualifications. In fact, even without academic qualifications, u can be very successful if u know what u are doing as a skillful and ingenious person.Let's not deceive ourselves with these certificates. There are so many graduates living in one room apartment, face me I slap u with wifes and children; whereby illiterates are living in mansions. Omo leave that university certificate thing, its what is making people to be poor.
