Azeebabe: Thank you for your response. The children are actually three but a family of five. I get your point, is the reason why the spouse also wants to follow in order to provide support for the wife while her program is ongoing. It is very doable. I would advise that your husband not apply for an F2 visa. You and your kids can go first and he can come to visit on a B1/B2 visa. The VO will want to know that you have a base back home and there is less concern about the ability to take care of the kids financially since your husband is working here and providing support. |

Azeebabe: Good day all. I am quite new here but have gone through a few posts by people on this platform and I must say God will continue to bless everyone that has contributed immensely to humanity via this medium.
Please, I will like to ask what advise should be given to a family of five (5) where the wife just got a PhD admission in the USA and will like to go with the entire family especially because of the number of years for the program, and because of the very tight work schedule of the spouse, taking proper care of the children would be a bit challenging for him for the number of years the wife wont be available.(Note: both mother-in-laws are aged).
Again, home ties seems to be very key in visa interview. The wife is also considering the support the spouse will be able to provide for her if they all go together in terms of the taking care of the children ( obodo oyinbo, na every man for himself).
Sorry, my post is becoming too lengthy, please, gurus and my seniors in the house, your advise and comments would be highly appreciated on this matter. Thanks and God bless you all. That's a lot. It would be difficult to convince a VO that you have the funds to support 5 children alone while working on a PhD program. Also how do you cover health insurance, living expenses, child care? If your husband is rich... you might get lucky. |

Nigeria has tons of doctors, scattered all over the world - a result of a corrupt society. Building more teaching hospitals isn't the answer, we'd just be training more doctors for the UK NHS, Canada etc. What we need to do is EQUIP existing hospitals, PAY the doctors their due and on time. Easy. |

oxygen25: Hi People,
A friend needs my advice. Currently a Permanent Resident in a developed country, think Germany/US/Canada/Australia/New Zealand. Just got a very good gig with an international institution (USAID/UN/WB/IMF/CDC/WTO). Role will give her mobility and take her around the world, but a bit worried that she won’t have the chance to become a citizen in current place of residence. But then, such job opportunities come once in a lifetime.
What advise do you have for her?
It’s a true dilemma, not made up. She should be able to have both. I know the US allows you to remain a resident if you need to travel for work and still be able to count that time towards your citizenship application. Also she needs to figure out what the requirements are for maintaining a residency permit while spending significant time outside the country. If she is a US resident then say so, many here can help her with the info she needs. |

House Pls help me review..... Thanks Your interview will be 3 minutes or less. You seem to be preparing for a 30-minute conversation. Make it brief. No, you didn't choose Troy because of those characteristics, you chose them because they were the only school to offer you admission. Stating that you were denied admission to the other schools because they were competitive suggests Troy isn't a competitive school. I wouldn't say that at all. Why not just say "you are not sure even though you met all the requirements". ...lastly, please consider going with your child who is barely 3 years old and needs his/her mother. Any VO who denies you on the basis of a child should not be a VO. |

I have studied in Nigeria at a top music school through scholarship and it's God that gave me. I have also read posts on this tread of people especially one where the guy was testifying how an unusual email popped up offering him fully funded scholarship in USA and it was all glory to God. I believe we all are here to share helpful information on US schools, opportunities and student visa processing. Should anyone know of schools with opportunities I described earlier, kindly share. Thanks. P.S I am doing my due diligence in using search engines to find info. It's not an issue of oil on your head, it's practical reality. Yes you studied at a top Nigerian school with scholarships - the key here is the school was in YOUR country, where you are a citizen. I doubt the same scholarship would have been available to a foreign student from Kenya, and I'm very sure it's not because the foreign student had no oil. It is likely that schools in the US would reserve scholarships in the liberal arts to US citizens and residents. Most scholarships you may read of here are largely in the sciences. I don't see a lot of those in the arts unless you are a prodigious talent. But don't let that deter you from searching. |

olaoye15: Hello Family
I need your take on this. Is there anything like diplomatic visa for non diplomatic member.
I had an argument with someone yesterday that obviously, diplomatic visa real, but for someone who is not a part of a diplomatic mission, that can't be possible. I argued that the system is now so sophisticated that they Oyinbo can't be fooled with this in the 21st century.
That even if it does, the whole deceit will be detected at the point of entry. In my heart, my argument was not convincing as I dont have real life evidence to corroborate my claims. I just have this absolute trust in the system of the of the US embassy to detect deceit.
Can anyone shed more light on this. Or does anyone has a real life experience on it. The guy said it is a Visiting diplomatic visa. If he is an immediate family member of someone on a diplomatic A1 or A2 visa, then it is possible. If I were in your shoes, I would ask them to send me a letter clearly stating that this is an in-person conference, detailing the events e.g. if there is going to be a field trip. Also, check their website to see if they make it clear it is an in-person conference. Expect that the VO will check the website for him/herself. If all these checkout, then go for your appointment. @S3nn2x asked you why the government isn't applying for a visa on your behalf. You haven't responded to him. |

Please I need your help and advice before going to the embassy.. Please I need response Yes you can get a visa. Your school is a good home tie. It is important that the VO understands that you are in a solid school program that you cannot leave. e.g. you're in your final year of high school or college (say engineering program at UI for example) and it would make zero sense for you to stay back in the US. If you simply say you're a student without explaining in detail, you will be denied. Be clear, and confident. |

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, has given reason a politician could be called to come back to lead the people after losing an election.
Recall that Jonathan lost his second term bid to President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
According to the former Nigerian leader, the way leaders are perceived while in office can play a major role in their political career.
Jonathan stated this on Wednesday when he met the representatives of political parties from The Gambia at the closing of a two-day consultative retreat for political parties.
He charged African leaders to always pay attention to the way the majority of perceive them and their policies while in office.
He said for this reason, even after they lose elections, they can be called back to rule again by popular demand.
“Whatever a leader is doing, he needs to understand the fact that the perception of his policies and decisions would be a critical factor to be considered because he is there for the people,” Dr. Jonathan said.
“A leader can be doing all the right things to be done for nation-building, but if the perception among the people does not match what he is doing, then he can never go very far in politics The sad thing is how pedestrian this all sounds... no one is ever going to look back 50 years from now and treat any of the above as a quotable quote. Even a 5 year old could tell you this... how did we elevate such uninspiring lightweights as leaders? |

I want to use this medium to thank each and every one of you for your help in answering my questions when my Visa application was delayed. I successfully deferred to the Fall semester (August 2021). Because of the pandemic, I can't go to the US embassy until 120 days before my resumption date. This rule was activated by the consular service providers in other to limit the crowd at the embassy and also protect themselves. While contemplating this, a friend of mine introduced me to a Pathway program offered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It is an educational program that prepares you for admission into Brigham Young University. I have successfully completed the Pathway program, gotten admission into Brigham Young University, and currently in my second semester. I can't afford to stay idle so I embraced the idea and I am schooling with them right away online. But, I want to transfer my credit to Idaho State University before my interview proper. If I should transfer my credit, will I cease been a student of BYU-Idaho immediately? or is there something I don't understand here? The reason I am asking this question is that I don't want to be stranded if my Visa application is been delayed again. I should still have something to lean to academically. I am sorry for the long text. Your kind response will be greatly appreciated. Yes. Why don't you apply for a visa first then transfer credits once you get here? |

How can I amend it? In my previous ds160 ,I filled that I have a relative in USA, and she would be paying for my trip. Also, I filled I was unemployed. I really thought the process was about sincerity.
Please how can I go about filling a new ds160 considering all this? It is about sincerity... the problem is you have many ahead of you who didn't play by the rules, making it more difficult for you. I don't know how old you are... but wondering if that played a role. Being unemployed could be viewed as a negative indicator of you ever returning. How can we show home ties for him. He went with documents showing proof of Job and even lands. But couldn't even present it. We are just looking for what to do better next time. If he's going on an F2 visa, that means he intends to be dependent on you until the expiration of your program. Your assistantship alone is unlikely to be able to support you, your husband, and your child. It's hard to convince a VO that you intend to come back to maintain your businesses when you're applying for an F2 visa rather than a temporary B2 visa, which would be the logical visa to apply for if all you intended was a visit. |

Well about the mentorship, I'm hoping to get one but for now, let me learning from the professional s on this travel section of nairaland There are no "professionals" here. Just people that have gone through the same journey you are about to embark on. I would suggest the following: 1. "Biological sciences" doesn't say much of anything. You need to figure out exactly what program you are interested in. 2. Then find a couple of schools that match your interests - i.e. whether they offer your major, Masters or PhD program, research interests, entry qualifications, tuition costs and cost of living. 3. Narrow down to 3-5 schools. 4. Start gathering application materials (find out if you need to take standardized tests). 5. Apply - strongly suggest you identify a potential mentor. You'll need it at your visa interview at least. Asking folks to do the work for you is not going to help you. No one would anyway. Best of luck. |

Graduate University Application fee is usually $75 to $150 - non refundable
Wes evaluation plus courier is around $250
TOEFL, IELTS is not free too
GRE is not free too
Plus US visa fees (I have no option than to pay this one)
After all these spending. US Embassy go come deny person VISA
Very wicked and thoughtless people Why? 1. They are a sovereign country, with rules governing the basis for issuing a student visa. 2. Applying to schools outside your country comes with risks... there is no guarantee that an admission automatically obligates the country to grant you a visa. 3. Ultimately, the "wicked and thoughtless people" are your leaders who failed you, in not providing you with a decent educational system so you don't have to rely on the lottery that is a visa. |

fkj950ax: Ouch.
You are in a bit of a pickle because global immigration laws, in trying to deter child abduction, almost always require consent from the other spouse if a child is traveling alone with a parent. Abandonment doesn't strip a spouse of parental rights. A minor or child cannot be taken away from the other parent. If you want this solved properly, you will have to go to the magistrate court (family and probate) and try to get an order for Parental Custody. If you can cite abandonment by the other parent (evidence of no care, financial support - school fees, clothes and shoes, health care, accommodation; physical presence, failed communication - SMS, Email; birthday and holidays without the partner (photos), picnic and outings... This will give you a stronger case at Border Controls.
Was there a legal marriage? If not, then this Order will suffice. The Magistrate Court will be faster than the High Courts.
PS. This works for either a father or mother situation. Noticed I used 'other parent' in most of my references. Not sure how it works in Nigeria but the mother can go to court to obtain an involuntary termination of parental rights. That should be permissible to travel. |
