Alfamann: There must be something wrong somewhere because striktlymi is one of the most illogical characters I have seen on nairaland. He is no atheist and actually well represents christianity in its glory of hypocrisy and false modesty.
His only quality is that he can congugate a few understandable sentences despite being a christian, and that's saying a lot.
He always starts with the false greetings which no one asked for, and which nobody needs but which in his christian head, he finds necessary to impose on the rest of us.
He dodges questions with the oldest trick in the book: answering a question with a question. It is not logic. It is "christian intelligence".
Now that this thread was about to open his nyash, he wants it all hush hush. Private pm. Personal matter.
You mr striktlymi, are a hypocrite.
Your useless greetings don't impress me.
i guess mr striktlymi has made a few enemies. I thought with his level head he would never have someone who thinks d above of him.
This one suprise me.

bilms: HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PLOT TO END HUMAN EXISTENCE. The purpose of gay and lesbianism is to prevent the continious existence of humanity,by way of stoping reproduction. If you doubt it, what do you think would happen if every man become gay and women lesbian? In less than 100 or 200years,there would be no more human on the surface of heart. The Nigerian Football Federation NFF has ordered that no gay or lesbian will be allowed at the national team. This is a welcome development to get rid of artificial human nature.
must everything end up with a conspiracy theory?

Eileen111111: You said, "^^Let me ask you. Who created Mary? Was it Jesus Christ or not? If it is him, will it be wrong for you to say that Jesus is the father of Mary? Jesus in his Godly nature in heaven created Mary so JESUS CHRIST IS THE FATHER OF MARY. Do you disagree?"

My response. Naturally, God created Mary, and there are three persons in one God - Father, Son and Holy Ghost. She is a creature, but also the best of all of the saints. God the Father is her Father. God the Son is her Son. God the Holy Spirit is her Spouse.

I think you misunderstood me. I never called an angel God.

Jesus is God and Man. He was born both God and Man. His divinity was and is a part of His nature. The two natures of Jesus were never severed. Mary is the Mother of the God-Man.

Catholics did not "decide what is right for God our Father to do." Who gave Peter authority when He was on earth? Jesus told Peter whose name means "rock" that He would build His Church on that rock. He also told the apostles "He who hears you hears Me." (Luke 10:16) If you refuse to submit and accept the authority Jesus established here on earth - Peter, the first pope, and the apostles AND THEIR SUCCESSORS - then you are deciding what is right and wrong, good and evil. That's what Satan told Eve when he tempted her to eat from the Tree of Knowledge. "You will be like God".
i agree

Boomark: ^^Let me ask you.
Who created Mary? Was it Jesus Christ or not?

If it is him, will it be wrong for you to say that Jesus is the father of Mary? Jesus in his Godly nature in heaven created Mary so JESUS CHRIST IS THE FATHER OF MARY. Do you disagree?

When he was about coming to the earth, he was made a little lower than the angels, Heb 2:7. If you call him God when he is lower than the angels, then it wount be wrong to call an angel God.

Christ was born on earth a man, lower than the angels, lower than God. So Mary is the mother of a man.

This is why i said, Catholics are now deciding what is right for God our Father to do. God made him lower, catholics made him higher and equal to God.

Don't give us long out of context sermon. Focus of things i have said here and refute/debunk them just as i have use it to debunk what you wrote above.
what a joke!!! So Jesus lost d divine nature when he became man abi?? Since when did the divine nature become transferable and renouncable. You are who u are u cant stop been human. JEsus cant stop been God.

Eileen111111: Sorry, Ubenedictus, but I really don't understand you either. Perhaps it is a problem of understanding one another's language since we live on different continents.

Here are quotes from St. Augustine of Hippo showing he believed in prayers for the dead and the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist (which only Catholic and Orthodox priests are capable of uniting Jesus with the host because only they, not Protestant ministers, can trace their their ordinations to the Apostles).

"That Bread which you see on the altar, having been sanctified by the word of God IS THE BODY OF CHRIST. That chalice, or rather, what is in that chalice, having been sanctified by the word of God, IS THE BLOOD OF CHRIST. Through that bread and wine the Lord Christ willed to commend HIS BODY AND BLOOD, WHICH HE POURED OUT FOR US UNTO THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS." (Sermons 227)

"The Lord Jesus wanted those whose eyes were held lest they should recognize him, to recognize Him in the breaking of the bread [Luke 24:16,30-35]. The faithful know what I am saying. They know Christ in the breaking of the bread. For not all bread, but only that which receives the blessing of Christ, BECOMES CHRIST'S BODY." (Sermons 234:2)

"What you see is the bread and the chalice; that is what your own eyes report to you. But what your faith obliges you to accept is that THE BREAD IS THE BODY OF CHRIST AND THE CHALICE [WINE] THE BLOOD OF CHRIST." (Sermons 272)

"How this ['And he was carried in his own hands'] should be understood literally of David, we cannot discover; but we can discover how it is meant of Christ. FOR CHRIST WAS CARRIED IN HIS OWN HANDS, WHEN, REFERRING TO HIS OWN BODY, HE SAID: 'THIS IS MY BODY.' FOR HE CARRIED THAT BODY IN HIS HANDS." (Psalms 33:1:10)

"Was not Christ IMMOLATED only once in His very Person? In the Sacrament, nevertheless, He is IMMOLATED for the people not only on every Easter Solemnity but on every day; and a man would not be lying if, when asked, he were to reply that Christ is being IMMOLATED." (Letters 98:9)

"Nor can it be denied that the souls of the dead find relief through the piety of their friends and relatives who are still alive, when the Sacrifice of the Mediator is OFFERED for them, or when alms are given in the church." (Ench Faith, Hope, Love 29:110)

"But by the prayers of the Holy Church, and by the SALVIFIC SACRIFICE, and by the alms which are given for their spirits, there is no doubt that the dead are aided that the Lord might deal more mercifully with them than their sins would deserve. FOR THE WHOLE CHURCH OBSERVES THIS PRACTICE WHICH WAS HANDED DOWN BY THE FATHERS that it prays for those who have died in the communion of the Body and Blood of Christ, when they are commemorated in their own place in the Sacrifice itself; and the Sacrifice is OFFERED also in memory of them, on their behalf. If, the works of mercy are celebrated for the sake of those who are being remembered, who would hesitate to recommend them, on whose behalf prayers to God are not offered in vain? It is not at all to be doubted that such prayers are of profit to the dead; but for such of them as lived before their death in a way that makes it possible for these things to be useful to them after death." (Sermons 172:2)

"...I turn to Christ, because it is He whom I seek here; and I discover how the earth is adored without impiety, how without impiety the footstool of His feet is adored. For He received earth from earth; because flesh is from the earth, and He took flesh from the flesh of Mary. He walked here in the same flesh, AND GAVE US THE SAME FLESH TO BE EATEN UNTO SALVATION. BUT NO ONE EATS THAT FLESH UNLESS FIRST HE ADORES IT; and thus it is discovered how such a footstool of the Lord's feet is adored; AND NOT ONLY DO WE NOT SIN BY ADORING, WE DO SIN BY NOT ADORING." (Psalms 98:9)

The church that fears being taken down for confession of its members sins is not of God! God wants sinners to repent! A saved sinner is not ashamed to declare that he was once lost! This church covered up loads and loads of pdofiles + ra*pi-st*s just to keep its reputation? Who is this church fooling? God or Man? This church needs to show 'potential souls' that it will not condone the sekzual abuse of it current church members, and that it will ex-communicate and deliver offenders to the law courts to be punished.

Enough of rap*i*n-g the sheep in the name of Christ! Enough! Enough! angry angry I say 'down with church reputation' in the favour of consolation, healing and justice to the victims! Salvation is not corporate; it is individual! Christ gave them enough time to repent of their secret sins; they did not. Instead they continued in it, covered it up, denied justice to the victims. Christ himself has exposed them.

Every abuser of the children of God hiding behind government office, culture and custom, religion, Christ and the name of God will be exposed in Jesus Name!

Protestants judge Catholics uncharitably by accusing us of worshiping Mary and "making Mary a goddess." Ask yourselves what is involved in worship? Pagans worshiped their gods and Jews worshiped God by offering sacrifices. People today don't know what it means to worship God by making sacrifices. They imagine it's about singing and hearing sermons. In the Catholic view, Protestants don't know what worship means because Protestants eliminated the sacrifice of the Mass 500 years ago in their services. In the Protestant view, if you are praying the rosary to Mary, that's the same thing as worship.

We worship God by offering Him the sacrifice of the Mass. This worship consists of offering God our lives, our souls, our minds and our bodies as a living sacrifice (Romans. 12. 1-2)

No Catholic priest offers the sacrifice of the Mass to Mary. Catholics do not offer Mary sacrifices and, therefore, do not worship Her. We honor Her because she has such a high place in God's estimation that He took His flesh from Her. No other creature on earth was given this honor. She has totally unique place of honor in heaven and therefore also amongst all of God’s people on earth.

We honor the saints (including the Blessed Mother) not for who they are, but for who God made them to be. We honor in them the completed work of grace. We honor in them their faithful obedience, which itself is a gift from God. The Blessed Virgin says, “the Almighty has done great things for me!” We honor Mary and the saints because we are struck with delight and awe at the wonderful things God has done for them. As the moon reflects the sun, so the Virgin and saints reflect the light of Christ.

Eileen111111: Boomark: You wrote:

"Let me tell you things that are insults to God.
1. "Man chosing who becomes the queen of heaven nd of Gods kingdom."

My response: There is Biblical support for calling Mary Queen of Heaven.

Mary as the Queen of Heaven is tied in with the Old Testament concept of the royal household. Because the King had many wives it was impossible for one to be Queen. Therefore the King’s mother served in the role. The Queen Mother sat on a throne at the King’s right hand and helped rule the kingdom. Access to the King would often be through the Queen Mother and she would ask favors from the King for those who asked her. You can see an example of this in I Kings 2: 17-25 where Solomon is on the throne next to his mother Bathsheba.

David prefigures God the Father; Solomon prefigures Jesus; and Bathsheba prefigures Mary.

Read Luke Ch. 1 where it says, "You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end."

Luke is saying here that God would give Jesus the throne of his father, David. What is David's throne that Jesus will inherit? Throughout Jesus' ministry, he repeatedly spoke of His kingdom - the Kingdom of God or the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus is the King whose kingdom never ends. Who is Mary? His Mother. Let's use logic here. If he is the King of the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of David, the Kingdom of Heaven, then who is the Queen? Mary is the Queen Mother of the Kingdom of God, the Kingdom of David, the Kingdom of Heaven. If Jesus is to reign as King forever, then Mary will reign as Queen Mother forever.

Revelation 11:19 and Revelation 12 provide support for Mary's Queenship. As you read Revelation 11:19, keep in mind that in the Old Testament, the Ark of the Covenant carried the Word of God. In the New Testament, Jesus is the Word of God. Who is the Ark of the Covenant in the New Testament? Mary, who carried Jesus in her womb for 9 months is the new Ark of the Covenant. It is one of her titles in the Catholic Church. Revelation 11:19 says:

"Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm."

Revelation 12 follows. It speaks of the "woman clothed with the sun" and "crowned with 12 stars." This passage represents both Mary and the Church:

"A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman* clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.a 2She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.* 3Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon,* with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems.b 4Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky and hurled them down to the earth. Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth.c 5She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.* Her child was caught up to God and his throne.d 6The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days."

Jesus is the child "destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod." Mary is his Queen Mother. If Jesus' Kingdom will never end, then She, too, will reign as Queen forever.
amen my dear u know your onions.

Eileen111111: If,as Protestants say, Catholics are committing the sin of idolatry by putting statues and other images in their churches, then Protestants also commit the same "sin" by using all sorts of religious images: Pictures of Jesus and other biblical persons appear on a myriad of Bibles, picture books, T-shirts, jewelry, bumper stickers, greeting cards, compact discs, and manger scenes. Christ is even symbolically represented through the Icthus or fish emblem. Why is it ok for you to use images, but we Catholics may not? Be consistent and practice what you preach.

The Catholic Church absolutely recognizes and condemns the sin of idolatry. What anti-Catholics fail to recognize is the distinction between thinking a piece of stone or plaster is a god and desiring to visually remember Christ and the saints in heaven by making statues in their honor. The making and use of religious statues is a thoroughly biblical practice. Anyone who says otherwise doesn’t know his Bible.

It is a falsehood to argue that early Christian saints did not venerate images. There were many saints, many of them monks, who were martyred or tortured for defending the Catholic faith in the 8th and 9th centuries, such as Sts. Theodore and Stephen.

Look at the images of the catacombs here that show early Christian art. Were the early Christians idolaters?

See images of Christ, the Last Supper, David in the lion's den, etc. Why, I even see images of Mary!!! Look here:
<https://www.google.com/search?q=images+of+early+christian+art+in+catacombs&hl=en&client=firefox-beta&hs=gpf&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=OJU3Ue29M6Gp2gXN2IHoAg&ved=0CDAQsAQ&biw=1228&bih=660>

See images of the cross, St. Dionysas, a shepherd carrying 2 lambs, etc.: <https://www.google.com/search?q=images+in+catacombs&hl=en&client=firefox-beta&hs=oD0&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=D5E3UZTlEsOo2wWA7YFo&ved=0CDAQsAQ&biw=1228&bih=660>.

The Catholic Encyclopedia says on its page entitled, "Veneration of Images":

"That Christians from the very beginning adorned their catacombs with paintings of Christ, of the saints, of scenes from the Bible and allegorical groups is too obvious and too well known for it to be necessary to insist upon the fact. The catacombs are the cradle of all Christian art. Since their discovery in the sixteenth century — on 31 May, 1578, an accident revealed part of the catacomb in the Via Salaria — and the investigation of their contents that has gone on steadily ever since, we are able to reconstruct an exact idea of the paintings that adorned them. That the first Christians had any sort of prejudice against images, pictures, or statues is a myth (defended amongst others by Erasmus) that has been abundantly dispelled by all students of Christian archaeology. The idea that they must have feared the danger of idolatry among their new converts is disproved in the simplest way by the pictures even statues, that remain from the first centuries. There are especially pictures of Christ as the Good Shepherd, as lawgiver, as a child in His mother's arms, of His head alone in a circle, of our Lady alone, of St. Peter and St. Paul — pictures that are not scenes of historic events, but, like the statues in our modern churches, just memorials of Christ and His saints.

"St. Ambrose (d. 397) describes in a letter how St. Paul appeared to him one night, and he recognized him by the likeness to his pictures (Ep. ii, in P.L., XVII, 821). St. Augustine (d. 430) refers several times to pictures of our Lord and the saints in churches (e.g. "De cons. Evang.", x in P.L., XXXIV, 1049; St. Jerome (d. 420) also writes of pictures of the Apostles as well-known ornaments of churches (In Ionam, iv). St. Paulinus of Nola (d. 431) paid for mosaics representing Biblical scenes and saints in the churches of his city, and then wrote a poem describing them (P.L., LXI, 884). Gregory of Tours (d. 594) says that a Frankish lady, who built a church of St. Stephen, showed the artists who painted its walls how they should represent the saints out of a book (Hist. Franc., II, 17, P.L., LXXI, 215). In the East St. Basil (d. 379), preaching about St. Barlaam, calls upon painters to do the saint more honour by making pictures of him than he himself can do by words ("Or. in S. Barlaam", in P.G., XXXI). St. Nilus in the fifth century blames a friend for wishing to decorate a church with profane ornaments, and exhorts him to replace these by scenes from Scripture (Epist. IV, 56)....St. Gregory the Great (d. 604) was always a great defender of holy pictures."

Do you see now how far Protestants have departed from what the early Church believed? The Catholic Church still retains the beliefs of the early Church.

alexleo: SHUT UP MY FRIEND! YOU ARE JUST VOMITING TRASH. IF I TALK ABOUT MY CHURCH ON NAIRALAND WHY DOES IT MAKE YOU MAD. YES I OPENED A THREAD ABOUT MY CHURCH AND WHAT ABOUT IT? NOSENSE. AND SINCE THEN U VE BEEN THE ONE WRITING ABOUT MY CHURCH EACH TIME I CONFRONT YOUR FOOLISHNESS AND REBELLION. EVEN WHEN I POST ON ANY TOPIC YOU LL QUICKLY MENTION MY CHURCH. OF COURSE ITS SUCH AGENTS OF SATAN AS YOU WHO THINKS HE KNOWS THE BIBLE MORE THAN OTHERS THAT I LL CONTINUE TO CONFRONT WHEN YOU DISPLAY YOUR BIBLE MISQUOTING AND MISINTERPRETING MADNESS.
calm down my dear, frosbel knows how to push peoples emotional bottons. add no emotion to this discussion if not frosbel will have reason to talk about your unchristlike response, if u have anything to say do so with charity if not none will take u seriously. the above has no point.

kramer: Do you then know why the church didn't take tithes? Because from what I understand it wasnt practiced in earlier churches (and am sure they knew better) before the Catholics brought it back centuries later.
and d earlier church u were talking about was protestant??
Christianity Etc › Re: Blessed Virgin Mary Crying Out Blood by Ubenedictus(m): 12:47pm On Mar 06, 2013
Boomark: Hebrews 12:22-24
New International Version (NIV)
22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect,
24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Where is it written that the saints are in heaven? this the gathering of Christians(saints) whose names are written in heaven to God just like the Israelites gather to God at the mountain, v18-21, Ex 19:11-13. the gathering is no longer as fearsome as it use to be under the LAW, heb 12:21. this is just trying to show that we are now in the era of GRACE.
you didn't read the bolded, it says "to the spirit of the righteous made perfect". Now please answer d post.

HARDDON: Ofcos he is not a 'money doubler' woreva that means. But he knows that humans r inherently selfish. Thus the principle.
Didn't you read about d rich man that kept all commandments but wen Jesus told him to go sell all he had and come follow him, he was sore grieved and went away in anger?

Where dere lies no check mates n principles , chaos is inevitable is. It is man's tendency to worship d created material tins and hold them in higher esteem than d maker. So he instructed we give.

As long as d earth remaineth, Seed timee and harvest shall not cease.

If that is not enuf ƒoя you, testimonies abound of men who were struck with poverty but out of the little they had, gave their ways of of poverty.

Don't get it twisted menh . Salvation cannot take d place of sowing and reaping. Didn't Lazarus die å pauper yet went to heaven? Ενεη in heaven, he still remained poor cos he was @ Abraham's bosom. So many Christians r actually harassing God with so many prayer points today and it seems he isn't answering dem wen all dey nid do is tithe and give offerings with a cheerful hearts .

No oηε is forcing none of you. Give if you deem it fit but as ƒoя me and мч household, we will give it all back to him.

Мч dad in d Lord is a dangerous giver and i can't slack . Ενεη d church pay its tithe and give offerings. Which dad isn't involved in.
Dad's account is different from d church's accounts. And all church properties are bought in d church's name.
Haw much do Ʊ have put togheda? Multiply that вч 1000 ...da might just ß some1's offering ƒoя a Sunday service . So boys, you haven't seen wealth yet. Sow that uя seed ånd stop dis hate.
But i shld quickly point out very importantly that is it not every ground you r meant to sow. It is not every church you can pay uя tithe. Only pay it where salvation is preached and ρρℓ get saved week in week out. If not, you can't but continue this uя cries .
Regards
so abraham's bosom is a poor place in heaven? Now i'm afraid of d gospel ur church preaches.
Quoting a post by Kbdrim on a similar thread.

The Catholic Church knows it's own history. Here is how tithing got back into the Church after being absent for nearly five centuries:

“As the Church expanded and various institutions arose, it became necessary to make laws which would ensure the proper and permanent support of the clergy. The payment of tithes was adopted from the Old Law… The earliest positive legislation on the subject seems to be contained in the letter of the bishops assembled at Tours in 567 and the [canons] of the Council of Macon in 585.”—The Catholic Encyclopaedia.
the quote seem very correct.

"go into the world and multiply"

After trying hard with Sarah for a baby, he jigiied his houselp and scored
then returened to Sarah to continue from where he stopped
When Madam Sarah died, and he realised that the anointing for multiplication was still on him,
he took another wife and continued to obey God's statutes on multiplication

esere826: ahahahaahahah

and for those that want to divide God into 3 persons by force
or the others that want to force him by fire by fire to be one

It means nothing to him, only to you
We speak with words and imagery of men, which are not yet perfected
(For example is God a man with a pipi? shocked)

Common guys, just relax and have a glass of SPIRIT cheesy
We've got a long journey ahead of us
yeah, when u take too much alcohol u become a alcohol, when u take too much SPIRIT u become a spiritual man.
Help me tell them make them calm down, step by step, if them finish for tithe dem fit go discuss abt 3 god or 3 personality in one God or one God one person.

esere826: grin

Let me join in the folly/wisdom/market/argument/whatever. My body dey scratch me

Two tithe 'categories' are presented in the bible
One was before the law, and the other was in the law

One was given by man, the other was requested by God
The law ran its course in some of our lives, and is therefore swept away, together with the tithing requested by God. They are FINISHED

One type of tithe therefore remains.
It is not requested by God, but has been offered by man to man like Abraham did
This tithe does not follow any rules of say pay every month, etc or that you are robbing God and so not being blessed

It is what we have chosen to give out of what he gives to us. This has no rules, its between you and your God
wink
intarasting!
