The senate spokeman and all national assembly members has urged the former president to blatantly named the criminal in the national and state assembly,further acknowledging that their reputation has been grossly tanished. Pals what do you think of this? We can name the criminals ourselves.
@godello
Guy, Nigerians can very well name the criminals without missing a pin. OBJ just said the obvious, how on earth can the legislatures now say their image is being tarnished by that. Do they want us to start recounting all their sins in the house? As if they need a refresher course, SMH. Let me do some research and i'll be right back!

ANTITRIBALISM: Though, it's good to protect the image of the country but boko haram are simply a terror group. Lets call a spade a spade or what else can we call them after terrorising the country and killing thousands of people without any tangible reason.
@ANTITRIBALISM

Yeah to protect the countrys' image is the best thing to do but believe me these politicians are only out to protect their pockets and selfish interests. Do you know what they fear? They cant steal our money and fly it abroad with ease without scrutiny. Once BH is declared FTO then their stealing and wasteful travel spree becomes difficult.
MY GUY FG IS FAR FROM THINKING ABOUT THE COUNTRYS' INTEREST.
BH dont care whether u declare 'em FTO now or later. They'll just keep on killing innocent civilians. Infact, the intended declaration is long overdue and not exactly what we want now. We want total ANNIHILATION of Boko Haram and fast.

S@NNiE:
AMID pressure on President Barack Obama to formally designate Boko Haram a foreign terrorist organisation (FTO), Nigeria has kicked against the move.

The Federal Government raised its objection to the plan ahead of yesterday’s meeting of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Andrew Owoye Azazi, with top White House and State Department officials in Washington DC.

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the U.S., Prof. Ade Adefuye, who confirmed Azazi’s meeting with the American officials, said the government was opposed to such a designation because it might subject Nigerian travellers to the kind of intensive search and scrutiny around the world, especially in western capitals and cities after the Farouk Abdulmutallab incident in December 2009.

Ambassador Adefuye in his defence of government’s action, said he feared the likelihood of Nigerians being opened to all kinds of harassments at international airports once such a designation comes from the U.S., including intensive and intrusive body searches.

The envoy said the government would on its own contain the Boko Haram menace as it did in quelling the militancy in the Niger Delta.

As at press time yesterday, Azazi, accompanied by Adefuye, was at a meeting with White House officials and was billed later in the day to attend another parley at the State Department, which has come under pressure both from the American Congress and the Justice Department to declare Boko Haram a global terror group.

As matters now stand, the State Department is in agreement with the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC and has refused to designate Boko Haram a “foreign terrorist organisation.”

Informed U.S. government sources hinted that the meetings would review the pressure from the American Congress calling for the formal designation of Boko Haram as a terror gang among other counter-terrorism issues.

Top officials of President Barack Obama’s National Security Council at the White House were believed to have met with Azazi yesterday morning, while his meeting at the State Department would be hosted by the country’s Ambassador-at-Large and Co-ordinator for Counter-Terrorism, Daniel Benjamin.

In the past few days, the U.S. media and western news wire had been reporting on plans by some American federal lawmakers to ensure that Boko Haram is designated as a terrorist organization.

The lawmakers argued that the U.S. and global interests had been attacked by the group, citing the suicide bombing of the United Nations (UN) building in Abuja as evidence of the armed group’s intent to harm American interests.

But while the Congressional leaders have been writing the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, demanding such a designation and also threatening to enforce it by way of legislation, some American scholars earlier this week openly opposed the plan.

The letter written by the scholars, numbering 20, included signatories of Dr. Jean Herskovitz, from the State University of New York, former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell, and a Nigerian-born don, Dr. Rita Edozien, from the Michigan State University.

The scholars said if the U.S. goes ahead to designate Boko Haram FTO, it would “internationalise the group’s standing and enhance its status among radical organisations elsewhere.”

Besides, the American intellectuals noted that “should Boko Haram be designated an FTO through this regime, it would be illegal for non-governmental organisations to interact with members of the terror gang – even if the purpose of such contact was to persuade them to renounce violence.”

But some prominent American Congressmen have insisted that the Obama administration must designate the insurgent gang a “foreign terrorist organisation.”

An agency report on Monday quoted Senator Scott Brown, a Republican from Massachusetts, as adding his voice in a letter to Clinton, urging her to designate the group as a terrorist body under U.S. law.

The argument from the lawmakers have been backed up with the reported facts that Boko Haram is linked to al-Qaeda, and also because the group had been linked to 700 killings in Nigeria over the last 18 months.

Last weekend, U.S. Representatives Peter King and Patrick Meehan, chairmen of the House Homeland Security Committee and its Counter-Terrorism Sub-committee in that order, both Republicans wrote to Clinton “suggesting that the administration was moving too slowly on the issue.”

The envoy said the government would on its own contain the Boko Haram menace as it did in quelling the militancy in the Niger Delta.

Really, the FG seeks to disgrace itself with this Sh.i.ty statement, they didn't stop militancy in the SS, they just bribed 'em with juicy contracts but still there's some militancy going on there, just check it out. And not wanting Boko Haram to go FTO means the obvious, FG is behind Boko Haram. Daily, Nigerians are getting eye-openers into Boko activities.

They may not get what they think they deserve from the centre but they have always been sufficiently self-sufficient, throughout history. They will rather fend for themselves, than cry amd claim marginalization as some others do. When the opportunity comes, they will make sure you pay for crossing them - in a democratic setting of course.

wales: The North-West and North-East zones of the Peoples Democratic Party are banking on the South-West geopolitical zone to help them wrest power from President Goodluck Jonathan come 2015.

One of the PDP governors from the zones, who confided in one of our correspondents on what he said was the plan of the North to stop Jonathan in 2015 said the zone was already reaching out to people from other parts of the country. The governor asked not to be named.

He spoke as there were indications that the Middle Belt, a major power block in the North, might not support the region’s power brokers’ bid to stop the President in 2015.

The Coordinator of the Federation of the Middle Belt People, Manasseh Watyl, in an interview with one of our correspondents in Jos, Plateau State capital, said the belt should produce the next President of the country.

But the governor from the far North who spoke to our correspondent said both the political leaders and the traditional rulers from the zone were tired of the Jonathan Presidency, which he described as “unimpressive.”

He said it was evident that the President might no longer be acceptable to the South-West, which despite the popularity of the party controlling the zone, Action Congress of Nigeria, ditched its presidential candidate in 2011 to vote for Jonathan.

He said he knew that the zone was not happy with the number of cabinet ministers assigned to it by the Presidency and “besides the people of the northern part of the country are also aware that Jonathan had refused to appoint people from the zone to strategic positions in his government.”

He said, “We are confident that we will get the support of the people from the (South) West. We are aware that the people of the zone are no longer happy with the President because of the way he treated them and their leaders.

“We are also aware that the President has refused to appoint prominent people from the zone to strategic positions and we have started meeting with the leaders of the South West.

“Those who are saying that we no longer have a monolithic north should wait. When the chips are down, we know how to handle ourselves.”

Apart from that, he said the zone would also liaise with some governors from the South-South in order to compel the President to honour his agreement with the party that he was running to complete the tenure of (President Umaru) Yar’Adua in 2010.

He said it was on the basis of that understanding that the governors and the party supported his presidential aspiration in 2010.

Faulting the Northern governors, Watyl stated that they were entitled to their opinion on the presidency in 2015.

He stated, “Like I always say, the Middle Belt is also asking for Presidency come 2015. We are qualified. The North has ruled this country for over 30 years without any improvement. Let us try somebody from the Middle Belt. Gowon did very well in bringing Nigeria together.”

On the Northern governors’ support for the Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari’s comment on the 2015 polls, Watyl said that this was borne out of their desperation for the presidency in 2015.

He said, “They have no option than to support Buhari because they are desperate to have the presidency back to the North. They should wait for their time. They have not spoken the minds of the Middle Belt.”

Also, the President of Afonja Descendants Union, Ilorin, Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulkarim Kasum, on Monday cautioned the northern governors who were plotting to stop Jonathan from contesting the 2015 presidential election to stop distracting the President.

In a telephone interview with our correspondent in Ilorin on Monday, he said the action of the governors were capable of derailing good governance and delivery of democracy dividends to the people.

Kasum said the northern governors should rather focus their energies and resources on providing good governance in their states, rather than plotting against Jonathan.

Meanwhile, investigations have revealed that the Northern governors’ defence of Buhari in his altercation with the Presidency was borne out of fear of confrontation with the former head of state.

Our correspondents learnt that because of the security situation in the core north, the governors decided to avoid a confrontation with Buhari.

An aide to one of the governors in the North-West, who pleaded anonymity, told one of correspondents that “The governors’ statement was meant to defuse tension in the polity. Many people in the far North have rightly or wrongly taken Buhari as a folk hero. They think he is representing the interest of the core north.

“If the governors had attacked Buhari, they would have succeeded in whipping up support and sentiment for him. Their reaction was very diplomatic.”

The former head of state, had, while hosting members of the CPC from Niger State who had paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna, warned the PDP against rigging the 2015 polls, else there would be bloodshed in the country.

Since Buhari made the comment, there had been altercations between him and the Presidency. But while the PDP had also attacked the former head of state, the Northern Governors Forum had said that Buhari’s statement was in order.

@SouthWest

Get ready to receive another bashing from the North, if u agree to work with them. The Northern politicians are a HOARD OF VIPERS, POISONOUS and VENOMOUS SNAKES that the SW should keep away from. Why don't they (North) turn to the SouthEast? cos we'll trick 'em die. All the SouthEast need do is play along n strike 'em when they least expect.

For Northern gov'nors siding Buhari so as not to incure his wrath. Means they know he (Buhari) is the mastermind behind Bokoharam, while they (gov'nors) are small fish behind BH. I pity those in the North that think Buhari is for their interest, even the gov'nors know better.

otumfour: Didier Drogba has confirmed he plans to quit Chelsea following his Champions League final heroics, according France Football magazine.

The striker has been quoted saying he informed his team-mates of his decision during the club's open-top bus parade on Monday after leading them to the greatest moment in their history on Saturday night.
"We will no longer be together next season," the 34-year-old said in quotes attributed to France Football magazine.
Drogba, who has reportedly already agreed a deal to join Shanghai Shenhua when his Chelsea contract expires this summer, is said to have admitted he struggled to get the words out and burst into tears.
He went on to say: "As I decided to leave, I wanted to tell them straight in the eye. Except that I could not do it. They made me crack.
"Even though it's been three years since I said I wanted to leave, I find it hard to admit that it's over with this club - especially as I did not feel like this.
"But I could not see myself sitting on the bench to watch others play when the club plans to set up a new team.
"So that's it - I am preparing for my leap into the unknown. It's going to be another adventure."

Well deserved! Leave the scene while the ovation is loudest. I for one never wanted Chelsea to lift the cup, cos of Robben and Ribery of Bayern Munich. I wanted the duo to have it since they would soon retire, and am not a fan of CHELSEA but God felt otherwise. The better team, CHEALSEA FC, won the day. Drogba has earned it so let him have it. I thought the competition was meant to be among men who are the supposedly natural predators, yet women hate other women because of a man, they lie, cheat, back stab, betray. . .why is it like this?

It's so rare to see a woman standing up for another woman, they'd rather join hands with the men to hate on their fellows. Thinking of women calling other women whores, biatches, ugly, useless, spoilt, etc. . .

I've never heard a man talking ill of another man before. . .on the contrary they hail each other for the same things they (and other women) condemn women for.

Please ladies. Why are we our worst enemies?

@eGuerrilla

Just got off the line with my aunt living at Otukpo and She says it was a false alarm. Anyways i still wont say i dont believe ya. This Boko Beasts have always been known to strike like FATE does, when one least expects.
For Bokos' information, if they bomb Otukpo, i'll come after they and their families and will snuff 'em out one by one. Sounds like an empty threat right? I wish it were.

The northern governors on Thursday said Buhari’s comment was in order, observing that many eminent Nigerians had made worse comments.

Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Babangida Aliyu, during a question-and-answer session with journalists after the Forum’s meeting in Kaduna, noted that Buhari had only sought to keep the Federal Government on its toes in order to ensure a free-and-fair election in 2015.

...
However, the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria had also on Wednesday lent its support to Buhari’s warning.

‘’We hold no brief for anyone. But it is true that if elections are rigged, as they have been so shamelessly and brazenly done by the PDP since 1999, naturally people will react, and in doing so it is impossible for anyone to predict how far things can go,” the party said in a statement by its spokesman, Lai Mohammed.

In a communiqué by the northern governors on Thursday, they noted the worsening state of security in their region and resolved to intensify efforts at finding lasting solutions to the problem by reaching out to all stakeholders.

The communiqué reads in part, “The alarming state of insecurity in the Northern states was discussed, thereafter, the Forum resolved as follows:

“We shall intensify efforts to find lasting solutions to the problem by reaching out to all stakeholders.

@NLers
The first paragraph above only goes to show that Buhari made an inflammatory statement, if not, why are the northern gov'nors citing an example of the inflammatory statement made by others' in the past? No need defending the "thing" called Buhari.
Look at these Northern gov'nors saying they will reach out to stakeholders inorder to solve our security problems. Who the hell do they think they're fooling? For sure, the other stakeholders are the people they very well know and sponsor, THE BOKO HARAM. Who doesn't know. Do these Northern elders listen to themselves talk? How can they say what Buhari said is in-order? Abeg make person tell these baboons to get off the scene jor!
