Mandelaguy: Brazilian President to lead delegation of businessmen to Nigeria

Ben Agande, Abuja

Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff is to lead a delegation of businessmen from the Latin American country to explore areas of investment in Nigeria in order to  boost economic and trade relations between both countries.

The visit which is on the invitation of President Jonathan is to seek Brazilian expertise in the areas of mechanized agriculture,  power generation and other sectors that Brazil has comparative advantage over Nigeria.

President Jonathan who extended the invitation at a bilateral meeting with the Brazilian President  during the ongoing United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, noted that greater economic and developmental cooperation would be in the mutual interest of Nigeria and Brazil.

According to him,  Nigeria will welcome increased Brazilian support and cooperation for the development of mechanized agriculture, power generation and other sectors in which Brazilians are globally acknowledged experts.

President Jonathan also called for the revitalization of the Africa-South American Cooperation Forum which was jointly initiated by Nigeria’s former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the former President of Brazil, Mr. Lula Da Silva as a platform for the promotion of economic and political cooperation between the two countries and continents.

Accepting President Jonathan’s invitation to visit Nigeria, President Rousseff said that she will come with Brazilian investors and businessmen with expertise in many fields to give them an opportunity to meet their Nigerian counterparts with a view to establishing profitable joint ventures.

She assured President Jonathan that Brazil, currently the world’s sixth largest economy, would be glad to deploy the skills and expertise which its people have acquired in many fields, including engineering, construction, technology, public infrastructure, hydro-power generation and large scale mechanised agriculture for economic growth and development in Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: I Didn’t Abandon My Responsibility - Jonathan by vanstanzy(m): 10:42am On Jun 21, 2012
OAM4J: President Goodluck Jonathan Wednesday responded to strident criticisms from Nigerians over his decision to travel to Brasil while crises were raging on in Yobe and Kaduna states saying that he did not abandoned his responsibility.

The decision by president Jonathan to travel to Brasil while churches were being bombed in Kaduna state has attracted criticism from a cross section of Nigerians with the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria accusing him of insensitivity.

But in a statement issued from Brazil, the Special Adviser to the President on Communications, Reuben Abati said before leaving for the United Nation’s Earth Summit Rio+20 in Brazil, the president met with security chiefs and he was confident that security agencies were on top of the situation before his departure Tuesday.

According to Dr. Abati, the president needed to attend the conference because of its importance to Nigeria and because commitments had already been made on his attendance.

The Special Adviser noted that “The conference, Rio+20, is very important and nobody can doubt that.

The issues that will be discussed at this conference are also issues that are relevant to Nigeria’s interest. It is also an opportunity for Nigeria to promote its interest in terms of its place in global community.

“The crisis in Kaduna and Yobe occurred almost on the eve of the President’s departure for this event and commitments have been made.

“In any event, it is not as if government has abandoned the situation at home. Security agencies are there, they are on top of the situation.

“Before the President left, he met with security chiefs. The business of leadership cannot just stop because there is a crisis there.

“I think what we can do is to appeal to the opposition not to always play politics with everything; that is the major challenge we face, people always want to play politics with everything.

“If the President had refused to come to Rio, the same persons will turn around and say that there is an important conference attended by world leaders and the Nigerian President stayed away from it.

“It is as if there is nothing you can do to please our people. It is not that Nigeria is going to lose anything by Mr. President’s presence here rather, the country is going to gain a lot from his presence here.

“He is here serving the interest of Nigerians, it is not as if he has abandoned his responsibilities” he pointed out.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan's Destiny Is To Bankrupt Nigeria - Bakare by vanstanzy(m): 6:12pm On Jun 19, 2012
Demdem: The Convener of Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare, addressed a news conference in Lagos on Sunday over the bribery scandal involving Hon. Farouk Lawan and Mr. Femi Otedola. He really didn’t have nice things to say about either of Lawan or Otedola, and nothing sweet for President Jonathan as well.

About President Jonathan, Bakare had this to say: “President Jonathan is on a mission to bankrupt and balkanise Nigeria.” This latest salvo from Bakare, who was the CPC Vice-Presidential candidate in the 2011 elections, is coming less than 48 hours after Gen Muhammadu Buhari himself declared that Nigeria’s brand of democracy is “nonsense”.

Even though the presidency has denied being the architect of the scandal involving Lawan, the clergyman still insisted that the scandal was a deliberate ploy by the government to divert people’s attention away from the N3 trillion spent by the Jonathan administration without appropriation. Hence, he urged Nigerians not to allow the bribery allegation to take their focus away from the real issue of Jonathan’s illegal spending.

“President Jonathan is dancing to the drumbeat of destiny,” he said. “His destiny is to bankrupt Nigeria. He has the full support of corporate cowboys and oil vultures. It is clear that Nigeria is a nation under divine judgment. We need a cleansing in this land and if we do not stand up now to do what we ought to do, there may not be 2015 for Nigerians.”

Bakare also said that the duo of Femi Otedola and Farouk Lawan are culpable in the $620, 000 bribery scandal.

“Otedola gives the bribe and Farouk Lawan takes the bribe, both of them are criminals. But they cleverly said he (Otedola) contacted the State Security Service in order to give marked money.

“Where did they get the money from? Did the money come from government? These are oil vultures. What is the foundation of his riches; is it not corruption? Has Nigeria not been celebrating corrupt fellows? Corruption in Nigeria is now endemic.

“In a decent society, both Otedola and Lawan and all the people involved would be behind bars by now. Unfortunately, Lawan’s greed and naivety got him into a terrible mess. He had the opportunity of being a hero; he ended up a villain because of naivety and greed.”

Obviously learning from Gen. Buhari’s mistakes, Bakare was quick to clarify that his call for revolution in the country was not a call for bloodshed.

He said, “Revolution could happen in several ways because God will not come down; He will always use people. I want you to hear me loud and clear: I am not asking for anybody’s blood to flow because the God that I serve shed his blood for mankind.

“He does not take people’s blood. But whatever way God will deliver this nation as He did in Israel he must deliver us, else we are going through extinction. If the wicked will not relent; if they continue their evil ways, they will have themselves to blame when God’s fury comes upon them.

“But it is nothing but outright wickedness for us to be going through what we are going through in our nation. The events that have happened in the last two weeks are sad, very sad; they are sickening, very sickening; they are scary, very scary. Any of the people in the Dana plane which crash could have been you or I. And rather than sitting down and thinking of how to avoid future disaster, fix our roads and build infrastructure, what they are thinking about is to circumvent and sidetrack issues, let’s plant bribe, let’s see the one who gives and the one who receives.”

Guyz seriously, what do u expect from people when GEJ isn't performing, ACCOLADES? GEJ is bringing all this insult to himself, period. I no blame Bakare, there's freedom of speech and he's abusing it.
RomanceRe: I Am Breaking Up With My Muslim Fiance by vanstanzy(m): 4:43pm On Jun 19, 2012
victorian: I Have Changed My Mind, No Longer Getting Married To My Muslim Fiance

I thought marriage is a shared effort between two parties. You share the joy, the difficulties, the happiness and thorns that comes along with it, but i was dead wrong yesterday. My fiance and I had a deep talk yesterday about possible challenges we were likely to encounter if we ended up married. After drawing up a lsit of those challenges, I felt like I could work round those challenges, however the only one i could not accept is his claim that he will not assist me financially should I have any financial issues in future.

I was surprised at this and asked if he was serious. First, I rarely ever ask him for money even when I get broke occasionally like everyone else, but how can I be married or even have a fiance that wont support me financially? For God sake, I am not an island that breeds and survives on its own. I am a normal human being like everyone else. My fiance stood his ground in spite of all these points I made and said "nope, I aint doing that."

What even hurts is the fact that he helps his friends and family out financially when they are down. So why should my case be different? I have come to realise that the reason for this might be tied to the fact that I am successful. He is sees it foolish to be there for me if am broke and to cap it all, he expects me to take care of our needs financially at home when we get married. We once made plans to save up for a car, but he stopped paying and told me that I should buy the car myself. According to him, the reason why he stopped paying was because I own a buisness while he is a salary earner. Is it crime to be successful?

I feel so sad, disgusted and realise that I can't go ahead and marry him. If I have to feel single while being married? What is the use of getting married in the first place If i cant count on my partner to be there for me. I don't think it is all about exchanging sweet words. Mere words are of no use to me. I receive sweet words everyday, so its no big deal. I have female friends and we assist each other sometimes, because everyday is not Christmas and sad situations happen that could make one go broke. I have worked myself hard for years, and I wont add to my workload after marriage. It is not worth it. Nah.....too much liability.

Anyway, this morning I told him I needed a break. I think we both need the break to think things through. We need to find out if we are suitable for each other or not. As far as I can see, I don't think so. Not any more. I thank God, he told me this on time before I took such a huge step as marriage. Abeg, let me focus on my business and friends that truly care about me. Can you guyz imagine? huh
Sis, if ur story is for real, then "KICK HIM TO THE KERB& MOVE ON!". Its a good thing u're finding this out now. NO KIDDING, BUT FINANCE IS A VERY BIG ISSUE IN MARRIAGE, ONLY SECOND TO intimacy.

When pushed too far, the best option is to defend urself in anyway possible. Thats what this Boko Haramists want, ALL OUT WAR!
Read what this fellow Nigerian wrote. I agree 100%, don't you?

Leadership is not meant for everyone and GEJ is one of those not fit to be a leader of a volatile country like Nigeria . I hope Nigeria does not turn into total anarchy during his term. And he is talking about running again in 2015? I hope not except things change for the better.
If PDP cannot offer a better candidate, I wish Nigeria luck. It is sad we were all looking forward to returning to that country to assist with the development, how can one go back without basic security or infrastructure? I hope Nigeria will wake up from this nightmare and start working towards the 21st century, time is passing the current generation by.
All Jonathan needs to do is to tap into all the talent Nigeria has both home and abroad. It is not all about money my people, your legacy will live on long after your money is gone. Create a legacy that your future generations will be proud of. With continued devaluation of the Naira, all the loot may not be worth the paper it is written on. We need to build this country for our children and our children's children. If your child is trained abroad, can you imagine them living with the barbarians that the country is fast grooming? You will not be there to protect them like you are doing now.
