ANALIST: It's just a matter of semantics, he prefers the positive disposition of calling it wealth creation and I agree with him.
Not true. Not semantics.
You can create wealth without reducing poverty. That translates to making the rich richer. It means your policies are geared at creating wealth for the rich. GDP will increase but unemployment and low standard of living among the populace will remain the same or even worse.

Question is "what demography of the population are your policies targeted"

The rich? Wealth creation.

The poor? Poverty eradication.

Or both.

DailyNews: This post is so hilarious and it just summed the whole thing. Classy successful men don't chase women whereas unsuccessful men are busy chasing women, successful men are busy chasing money and success while women are busy chasing them and they keep running away from women as women keep running away from unsuccessful men. OP, get busy with your studies, lots of us didn't had dates while in school, believe me when u finally make it successful, women of all calibre will be busy fantasizing abt u n studying how to get you, so u wouldn't need to be learning how to toast or win a girl instead they will.

Don't be deceived by those that will tell u that when u hit it big, u won't find love again or that u won't know which girl loves u or not, all na story so long as Nigeria is concerned, just get busy with ur studies n possibly start a business while in school n build it to grow with u as u grow n graduate than to be worrying urself about some girl that is busy studying how to win wizkids love or Dbanjs heart....get busy with creativity dear smiley
God bless you Sir.

OLAADEGBU: The Grace of Being Content
November 15, 2012.

"And having food and raiment let us be therewith content" (1 Timothy 6:8 ).

The last of God's Ten Commandments--and probably the most difficult to obey--deals with the sin of covetousness. "Thou shalt not covet . . . any thing that is thy neighbour's" (Exodus 20:17). "Take heed, and beware of covetousness" warned the Lord Jesus, "for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth" (Luke 12:15). This warning introduced His parable of the rich man whom God called a fool. "So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God" (Luke 12:21).

And how does one become rich toward God? "Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. . . . Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. . . . seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:20, 25, 33).

We Christians--especially in an affluent society such as ours--all too easily fall into the trap of being possessed by our possessions and may even think these possessions are somehow God's reward for our "godliness." But Paul says those who suppose "that gain is godliness" are "destitute of the truth." We need to remember that in God's sight "godliness with contentment is great gain" (1 Timothy 6:5-6). And with Paul, we should strive to be able to say sincerely that "I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content" (Philippians 4:11).

God has promised to supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19), if we are faithful stewards of what He has entrusted to us. Therefore, God's Word commands: "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5). His dialect does not have a dictionary.
Jokes EtcRe: If Honourable Patrick Obahiagbon Was To Be An English Teacher by vascey(m): 11:16am On Nov 17, 2012
ohisola: Singular pronouns carry singular verbs. Were is d past participle of d verb. 'to be' conjugated in its plural form.

Patrick (singular noun), replace Patrick wit a pronoun and u get. 'He'. Now fixing d pronoun in that sentence u get 'if he was to be an English teacher' and not 'if he were to be'
Bt then again the introduction of d clause 'if' could just b an exception . grin. This I don't kn. Na d smal one wen I kn I narrate so. #POKO# grin grin
With all this ur long story, you are still wrong. Correct word is "were".

okpara ugo: The front tyres wont turn left or right. It has four tyres, so the two in front must be converted to work like that of a car before it moves smoothly.
If you look at the picture carefully, you'll notice that's precisely what the guy did. He used metal rods to connect the front wheels of both side bikes to a central steering system. The back is probably also connected at the seat level for stability.

I think its pretty simple but of course I'm no engineer.

I look at it and I see a quad bike in the making (used at the beach) but with significant modification.

If only people like our very own Okija-JayJay will help the guy out.

vivian chinaza: Yes I have been, and I'm about to again.
My duties?
Before and on the wedding day:
I help in planning the wedding, running around, making choices, remind her of things she forgets. Then take care of her, make sure she doesn't stress herself much, remind her to eat and rest when necessary etc. In fact, she owns me for these 2 days, and she is permitted to boss me around.

Who buys my chief bridesmaid dress? I do.

After the wedding:
Its my duty to help her be the best wife she can be by not giving her the wrong piece of advise if she ever confides in me.
If I see her taking the wrong path that I know will jeopardise her marriage, I will call her to order. Etc.

These are what I have done for my friends, and I'm about to do again, and they are what I'd expect from my chief when my own time comes.
10/10 likes.

I like reliable people like you. Always dedicated and take responsibility seriously.

You have really interpreted your role very well. Ideally, the role of best man/chief bride's maid ought to transcend the friendship and the wedding day.
You must look out for the couple going forward.

But Vivian lemme advise you- "What you do for another, don't expect for yourself. Else you be disappointed. Most people are unreliable and would disappoint you at the slightest opportunity".
PoliticsRe: Arunma Oteh Is Ready To Die For SEC by vascey(m): 10:18pm On Nov 11, 2012
chief batiatus: Pls don't insult people just because NL is anonymous. What do you mean by thieving ways? That woman has not stolen a dime in SEC, if she did she would have been out with all the hatred borne her by the real thieves at national assembly. in 2011 SEC under Oteh spent N1.2billion on ICT infrastructure turnaround and ALL the companies that won jobs all won on merit! I also have it on authority none of them could go near her to say 'thank you'. I dare you to refute this so that I can lambast you with more details. Please stop insulting people who are doing the right thing even if they have some personality issues, focus on what their assignment is and whether they are meeting it. Oteh was a vice president at ADB before coming to nigeria, go and ask what her annual package is? Aside ADB staff have diplomatic status incase your ignorant self is unaware. She was already very very successful before coming back to this crap country
Thank you sir for heralding the voice of reason and not submitting to the myopic sentiments of many posters here.

People should really learn to investigate and not foolish minions in the hands of the seemingly wise honorables.

Aruma took over SEC when the level of decadence was at a historic high. Onyuike and her cohorts milked Nigerians dry through various schemes including the Transcorp public offer.

Aruma was brought in to sanitize the system but has been resisted by those who want status quo so they can continue to enrich themselves.

She had a N1m dinner? So what? Compared to Onyuike she is a saint. Infact she is a god.

I blame the government that did not recognise that SEC needs a systemic change i.e. All the directors and senior management should be sacked and an entirely new management board constituted. And the board's first mandate would be to weed out all the corrupt infected elements over there. That's the only way they can move forward.

From precedence, people who are ready to introduce the kind of change Otteh is bringing are always met with violent resistance e.g. Dora in NAFDAC.

People should believe less of propaganda and identify the underlying issues. That way, we won't have the ignorant sentiments posted on this thread.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How Are You Coping Without A Job by vascey(m): 7:22am On Nov 11, 2012
naturalwaves: I used to think like you initially before I left school that all I need do is by blasting Aptitude tests, interviews and then get a dream job but now I know better. Things are not as smooth as you think. It takes more than that to get a placement in Nigeria at the moment. I have countless examples I can refer to to show you this.

Take for instance, THE NIGERIA FLOURMILLS GRADUATE TRAINEE RECRUITMENT that took place from early this year, February to be precise. After applying, we had to wait for like one month before writing the online personality assessment test. After that, another two to three months before shortlisted candidates wrote the challenging CBT( Computer based test). The test was conducted in 3 major cities, Abuja , PH , Lagos for days with 5 batches per day just for a spot that is less than 100. I even heard they're taking just 25. I am very sure that more than 50,000 people applied for the job. Those that scaled through that did a Functional Test and up till now, nothing has been heard. This is November. Let's assume that the total number of candidates to be taken is 50. The coy has a board of directors and top staff members. Do you think they won't be given slots? Out of the whole recruitment, I am very sure that less than 10 will actually get the job on merit. The point I am trying to make here is that, playing your own part is not enough to get you a job.

Moreover, Companies waste a lot of time in concluding their recruitment processes and that usually takes at least 6 months which could be frustrating for graduates. You keep on hoping, hoping and hoping from UAC to FLOURMILLS to NESTLE to Government job etc.

Government job is not even devoid of malpractices as well. In the last Lagos state Govt recruitment for teachers, thousands of graduates applied, shortlistment for test was done and some final candidates were selected out of which only about 355 will scale through after a supposed training. On getting to the training centre, I saw a lot of people there that were not even shortlisted for the first test. Some persons did not even write the test and they made the list. Now, what is the fate of those of us who know nobody in the final selection? Won't those ones with long legs be chosen over merit? Time will tell.Well, it is about 5 months after the process started and up till now nothing has been heard. We are all waiting for the final list which was supposed to be released latest by August 15 initially.
The list goes on and on and on.

Most of my friends that have gotten a placement either got one by connection or by being retained after service.I got an offer to be retained in far away North(Jigawa state) after service but I turned it down due to the fear of Boko Haram which was at it's peak at that time (we conducted the general elections and it was in our time that some Corp members were massacred....so don't blame me if I run)and the fact that I don't want to settle in the North.

It simply takes more than being brilliant and blasting tests, packaging oneself to get a placement. I don read GMAT, SHL etc tire and Aptitude tests poses no threat.

Aside the big Organisations, there are some average companies that pay shi.t as salary and you will work yourself to stupor in retaining your job. Some nonsense Insurance firms for example pay graduates like 35k or 40k per month. You would be made to walk all around the place to source for clients even under the hot sun. By the time you even subtract your expenses from the salary at the end of the month, you will see that you have been living from hand to mouth.

The most probable job for graduates now is to pick up a teaching job in a private secondary school or something. Just last week, I met an intellectually gifted friend of mine teaching in a secondary school. He is a graduate of Elect/elect Engineering and in fact a near genius. He takes about 3 subjects, Mathematics, Further maths and Basic Tech and collects a salary of 20k monthly. The highest most of those schools pay is 25k particularly where I reside. Now, what is that for a graduate? That is too small. Like they say, half a loaf is better than none. Such job is only manageable when you can easily stroll to the school from your house and based on the fact that, you won't need to ask for money to buy recharge cards or have a haircut from your parents again. I think I will soon join him in the school cheesy at least for the meantime.

From what I have observed, most of the so called Multinational Companies post adverts in the media just for posting sake to fulfil all righteousness as about 70% of the positions are already fixed particularly the jobs for fresh graduates.

The small coys are exploiting graduates due to the situation as well. Good graduates, poor salaries. Some companies will even have just 2 to 10 positions available and then paste such vacancies on the internet. They will get the best of the best at the end of the process. If I need a store Keeper and I post the vacancy online, I know I will have more than 500 people to screen. That's terrible! Most of the Boutiques in Allen Avenue and Ikeja now have graduates as Attendants. What a shame! A friend of mine even wrote an Aptitude Test to be a boutique attendant. Na wa o!

For those that have understanding family members around, the situation could be managable till they get a placement but for those that have no one to rely on, it could be terrible and frustrating.

Even if one has got talents, brilliant, ideas, Entrepreneural thoughts etc, one still needs a footing to stand on before such ideas is put into use.

Finally, the musical Artiste, NICE said in one of his songs that BI A KO RENI FEYINTI, BI OLE LAN RI. What that means is that " He who has got no one to rely on tends to look like a lazy fellow". May God help us!
I feel you bro. Your write-up is quite touching and paints a very bleak picture which is mostly true. But I encourage you to keep hope alive.
