Sorry to bring politics into this thread, but men, all the leaders in Lagos and Nigeria at large, yet they can’t even get a semblance of order when it comes to road users and driving.

How difficult can it really be to have police officers patrol and pull over erring drivers? Why must they stand forming checkpoints, instead of patrolling the streets and finding ERRING DRIVERS ON THE MOVE?

The same way you saw a danfo do something wrong is the same way a squad of police patrolling will see them as well. The difference is, you have no official power to enforce driving laws while the squad car does, but I’ll tell you how you are both similar - you both will drive off and do NOTHING! Such a shame of a police force and irresponsible present/past governments who remove themselves from society.

Seriously, when was the last time, if ever, you heard a Nigerian politician campaign and raise points such as stated above? Have you heard them say, “when I come in, I will tackle law and order on the roads, making sure drivers maintain lane discipline and buses make use of bus stops and so on and so on”?

Up till now, 2021, you still can’t even call police in Nigeria in the event of an emergency. It’s sad really.

I guess being Igbo, I will feel good if an Igbo man is president. But that’s where it ends. When you see the statistics of the thousands that have been killed by bandits/boko haram, you have to ask yourself if all the attention given to Kanu should have been reserved for these guys. Imagine trying the sponsor of Boko Haram that has bombed, pillaged, kidnapped... won’t that be a worthy case deserving of Malamis presence? I mean it’s only in Nigeria you hear of school kids being kidnapped by the hundreds and at the end of the day, those that committed the crime are never known or brought to justice.

In the developed world, driving lanes mean EVERYTHING. Those white lines are almost sacrosanct, like, lane discipline and all.

Here most of our lanes are faded, and the ones that remain mean nothing to the average driver as they cross is with impunity, some even driving on it.

Most people deep down knew neither Buhari nor Atiku would make a difference, but they just followed their tribal crowd leanings.

Nigeria has existed this long, yet you can’t even get pipebourne water to a majority of Nigerian homes.

Something as basic as water, it’s all man for himself.

Then people start given speeches about a wonderful utopian Nigeria, like bra, you guys can’t even get people water bro!

First it’s wrong to even believe in a Nigeria created by the British, but even then, if we were to have a chance at greatness, I would suggest we retire all politicians and put the best brains in at every level of government. I’m talking first class grads from Ivy League schools across the globe manning ALL POSITIONS AT THE LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVEL.

I’ve always advocated for increase in police pay. No officer should be earning less that 200k per month.

A good salary is always a great incentive towards working harder.

I know you might say, “what about the senators that receive jumbo pay?”, and you would be right in asking that question, but I believe it’s different for them since they get to set their own pay.

It’s much different when you get to set your own jumbo pay, without fear of getting fired, vs receiving a jumbo pay, with the condition that you must work hard and achieve certain goals and targets.

Now going back to senators, the only way they can get fired is if the people fire them, and I really don’t know what the process entails, yet alone if that could work in Nigeria.

What kind of leader have you Nigerians chosen?

I was said that a hurricane could hit and destroy half of Nigeria and Buhari won’t still come out before a live press to answer questions and re-assure the people.

Heck Godzilla could come through tomorrow, stomping cities from east to west, yet Buhari won’t say jack.

Only expect speeches on New Year’s Day, Independence Day and other major holidays.

We even have people on this nairaland saying that police should shoot any protester they see.

If you have driven past the lekki toll gate over the last year or so, I’m sure you can appreciate how easy it is to pass that route as the traffic at the gates has been TOTALLY ELIMINATED due to the stoppage of toll collection.

Now imagine a wicked government wants to bring all that traffic back. All that chaos at the gates, with traffic stretching kilometers away.

Why is government in Nigeria particularly wicked?

By the way, what is so special about lekki and ajah people that they need to pay toll to go home? Why not Surulere people? Or ikeja people? Or Yaba people.

We just tend to normalize weird and corrupt things in this country. Why is there a freaking toll gate right in the middle of the city with no alternate highway to pass?
