Hey guys, hope y’all are having a great Friday morning. I have a few questions for the house please. I have a Toyota I want to drive in Uber, but the car has some issues. The main issue I think might affect inspection is the torn seats in the car. All the seats are torn and I’m looking at the cost of repair and wondering if it’s worth it for now. -Please guys, if I were to go for an inspection now, will the car pass with the torn seats? -can I have multiple inspections done? Like if you fail the first one, can you make repairs and come back for another inspection? -finally guys, there is a “Situation Survey” that must be taken, any tips on that? Thank you guys |
Nigeria is funny You will hear people happy that white countries are returning stolen artifacts from Benin, and the black people here will be shouting "Chai, white man don do us strong tin ooo" Yet, when you mention to these same people that Nigeria, a vestige of white supremacy, slavery and the likes, should be disbanded, they will all shout "One Nigeria", lol ![]() Confusion everywhere |
KazikageSama:All countries have BDC, but is it Aboki that they have? The ones that will say any price they like at anytime based on who the customer is? I have been to western countries where their BDC are operated in a disciplined manner, with firm prices displayed on boards, so every customer pay the same price. No selling at 500 to person A and then selling at 480 to person B and then at 510 to person C... Why can't that be a possibility in Nigeria? Why must we be searching for Aboki in market, hotels and so on to buy and change dollar? If you know how these guys cheat eh, and then who would you report the incident to?
|
jneutron4000:See the way this dude is supporting election rigging and malpractice and he got 5 likes? Such a scary country this Nigeria, filled with stupidity. Such stupidity men, it’s too much abeg, chai! Black man sha, where is that rossikk guy sef? Come and see something ooo |
INCREDIBLE007:Don’t mind all these evil people To go so low to support rigging in broad daylight with his chest out, so proud! Such stupidity men |
So police can’t shoot all these guys down? Not even Taser? No arrests? |
Crvrider:Is there still curfew in Nigeria? I thought it was canceled months ago? |
uchdollar111:Not that often, but I am not sure if an escrow service would work, cause I’m using a dorm account which is cash in and out I think. So do I have to start calling people to buy my physical dollar? |
sholatech:I truly believe so. I heard it’s because I didn’t carry a 100 dollar bill, but when they sold me last week, even a dollar note was sold at 505. Thanks bro, I truly believe I was scammed, and the guy was so arrogant. Next time I will shop around as you said. Even the 400 is lower than bank rate. |
Commentor:It really does seem that is the case sometimes, as is evident in our election choices. |
Commentor:As in... May God help us! What kind of country is this becoming though? How long before we have a real police force, that is well paid, highly skilled and full of technology to stop all these kinds of things? Our police now that can’t even verify a drivers license remotely, using computers in a patrol vehicle, instead they just stand at junctions, form road blocks... To be a Nigerian is just something else right now, to say “I’m a Nigerian”. |
uchdollar111:If it’s online, what difference would that make? Would I them transfer to someone? If I have it on hand, can’t I still get AbokiFX rates at mallam? He was even saying I’m lucky he’s not selling to me at 350, chai! |
nairavsdollars:Even in highbrow areas, you still have open gutters filled with shiiit and pees, so what are we talking about. You know how when you play Monopoly, the game, you move around properties, from low value to highest value. Now imagine you move on to the highest value property are in Lagos and guess what? You still have OPEN GUTTERS. Take a seconds to look inside any open gutter near you. Just examine it for 5 minutes straight, what is the color? Green? Black? Purple? If it’s purple sha, that one is what they call Extra-Contaminated. The devil really is in the details sha, I too must remember that. They will patch road, and call it a day, yet the little but important things like lane markings and covered sidewalk are almost never done. I don’t know what kind of civil engineering standard that Open Gutters fall inside sha, maybe the Emgineers in the house can help. Then the irony of life, is having open gutter right next to multi million dollar properties, like... I’m not gonna be like some others who say that Home owners should repair the roads in front of their houses, cause that don’t make much sense. The responsibility still falls on the government to fix the roads in front of these rich homes, and every other home, even if it’s inside an estate. Anyways, I guess there is nothing like open gutter sha to get you going in the morning. Just don’t fall inside, cause that’s day over, right as it begins. Smell an open gutter today! |
I feel like I just got scammed at eko hotel cause they changed my small 50 dollars at a rate of 400 naira to a dollar, but when you want to buy, no matter how small, even one dollar bill, they will tell you it’s 505. How do I avoid this in the future? Cc Seun, Lalasticlala |
tunlapapa:Okay, I guess I will have to prepare my mind then. |
Pearl1910:Thanks for sharing, it’s much appreciated. You say you can cancel, but I read you can’t cancel that many times. So as it is now, if I start driving and want to remain in Surulere for instance, then I have just 2 guaranteed trips and the rest I have to start cancelling if they take me out of that zone. |
Please guys, take a quick timeout from arguing and help answer some questions, thanks! I already got the information from this thread last night, that on Uber, you can’t see the riders destination before hand, and may have to drive to a location you don’t wanna go or cancel. However, I read an article online that says Uber has things like trip filters and a “go home” feature that allows you to pretty much select an area you’d like to drive in. My question thus is, are these features available in Nigeria? I know some drivers here might not mind the long trips due to the ability to earn more as seen by dashboard screenshots here, but for those wanting to stay in an area, will these features be available to them, or has anyone ever tried to use them? Any information on this will be greatly appreciated, thank you. |
tunlapapa:Good to know that you can just cancel those instead of waving the white flag when the rider finally tells you. Uber can never try this in developed countries. Anyways, thanks for the info, I’m gathering as much info as I can to know of this is worth it. |
IFEBARBIE:Wow! Thanks for the information. I wonder how Uber drivers drive blindly to any destination, what if I put Ibadan from Lagos? So if I start driving Uber, someone will want to carry me to Ibadan from Lagos ![]() God forbid! |
IFEBARBIE:Wait, are you saying Uber drivers can’t see the destination for potential riders? That makes no sense though, what if the rider is going to a place you don’t wanna go to? |
CheerfulGiver:Is this driving money? Shooo |
I have question guys please... Can you pick the area you want to drive in? Say you are on the mainland, can you filter for only requests on the mainland? So that for example, you don’t have to go to the island. Can you see where the driver wants to go to before hand? If you can’t, how do you deal with that? What if someone requests a ride and you can’t see the destination, then when you get there, they say “Take me to Abuja” from Lagos Please experienced drivers, help me with answers |
BKayy:I have never delved into the demographics of the victims as the whole thing seems so chaotic. All the headlines I see are just multiple people killed and so on. |
BKayy:It seems we are now numb to news of mass killings daily or weekly. I think it has gotten to that stage unfortunately, were we just read the news and keep on moving, without for a second imagining ourselves in their shoes. May God grant a peaceful rest to all the innocent that have lost their lives due to terrorism in Nigeria, Amen! I wonder sometimes why Kanu and Sunday could be bigger news stories than the thousands of Nigerian lives lost. I do not doubt that we are at war, because the casualty numbers from terrorism in Nigeria are almost like war casualty numbers. |
BKayy:how many irregularities will we just “move on” from? One day they will ban internet and we’ll just move on... back to the stone age |
I thought nairaland said no to secession? A thread that they have pinned forever at the top of the politics section. But since it’s profitable for them, they will move so much news about secessionist to the front page. I guess profits over what you believe ba? |
Agbegbaorogboye:Why is a negotiation even necessary? What other app or website are they negotiating with? Candy crush? Call of duty? New York Times? Instagram? Why only Twitter? and why is it still banned especially now that their excuse “Nnamdi Kanu”, has been arrested? |
I thought they said it was cause of one man, Nnamdi Kanu, that they shut out 200 million people from access to Twitter? Now that they’ve arrested him, why haven’t they lifted the ban? Or are they now giving another reason for keeping the ban ongoing? |
A president that you have to drag and drag and drag like faulty generator before he starts an address to the public? You’re joking right? A leader who remains utterly silent when school kids are kidnapped? The same one that won’t hold press conference to assuage Nigerians? Is that the same president? If I sleep with my lover in my heart, won’t I wake up first think you talk to her? Or will I wait 4 months? |
Beancounter93:How can you say that a natural resource is the cause of the problem? Of course in the sense of rivalry and human greed and wickedness, then yeah, a gift could become a curse I guess. However, we should see natural resources mainly as gifts from God to be managed by those with the fear of God or great managers. There are templates already out there showing how natural resources can be properly utilized, like was done in Dubai for instance. Do you remember a time when Nigerias government claimed we had too much money and didn’t know what to do with it? Now imagine we had leaders with the foresight to build, build build, turning Nigeria into a Waknda of sorts, with railways, international airlines and turning the country into the biggest black tourist nation EVER. However, we know how greed caused us to go from coup to coup to corrupt democrats. Africa is truly blessed with a bounty of resources, but it seems our minds are shackled. May God free us and break the chains in our lives, which hold us back! |
Yeah, like if you gather 10 five naira notes, all you’d have is 50 naira, still not enough for a bottle of coca cola We need to change this, but I know for a fact that these leaders we keep electing in Nigeria can’t inspire such change. I think we should make all presidential candidates write exams for elections, instead of being voted in, yeah it’s that bad. They could write exams on economics, leadership... then we screen for the best candidates. You might be shocked to find out those that get 10% or lower are the ones that win elections typically. They come out frying a Akara and corn during elections, like that would have any bearing on our currency and the well-being of the country. OP this is sad indeed. I’m just thinking like if I had 5 dollars, I could get a meal both in America and in Nigeria, but with 5 naira here, it feels like you don’t have any money. May the almighty God help us and strengthen our wills to make good choices, Amen! |
vickydankal:To me it’s not even about the country working, but to highlight how tribal we are. As someone mentioned, we don’t even have them as ministers sef, they are no where to be found and I’m sure we have white Nigerians. We are so tribal that we don’t even let other tribes within the same country lead our states. Like say a Yoruba guy can become governor of Anambra tomorrow? Haha! Naija... Yet we can go out as black people and lead in other countries. The situation really is telling! Check nairaland front page periodically for how we celebrate Nigerians going abroad and holding government positions. |
