One would think that the president would hold a press conference upon the arrival of the Covid Vaccine in Nigeria. One would think he would take questions about how the vaccine is to be distributed amongst the states and how people are to get them.

But still no Buhari, just the "PRESIDENCY"

What would it take for the President of a Nation to hold a press conference?

Newspapers all around the country still putting out headlines that say

"Buhari Says"

When will Nigerians rise up.

What kind of President doesn't address reporters after school kidnappings and bombings?

I'm sorry, but it seems Nigerians are just too gullible to the point were it becomes irritating.

See everyone on this thread already believing Buhari said this, but ask them when they saw Buhari interact with reporters last, and they would not even be able to tell you.

Everyone is just so comfortable having a president they never see and that never interacts with the press.

But they believe anytime a newpaper says "Buhari Says"

At this point, even if a foreign country declares war on Nigeria, your President Buhari will still not be seen.

I didn't understand that part of his response either.

Is he saying that when a crime occurs in an area, the police is free to arrest every single person in that area, whether they are criminals or not?

I guess that has always been the norm for Nigerian police/army sha, to come after a crime has been committed and pack as many on lookers as they can. What more can we expect from these forces though? I guess investigations are dead in Nigeria.

Have you ever visited a police station and seen even one computer there? Just one single computer? So imagine computer-less, no technology having police officers trying to solve crimes in a digital age, they cant! So they resort to just picking up random people close to the epicenter of a crime.

Wouldn’t local police then be the once to escalate the threat report and inform the military if they could not de-escalate the situation?

My STRONG ADVICE TO ANYONE DOING SOLAR IN NIGERIA is get lithium batteries.

They are expensive, but sometimes you can find deals. Those are the kind of batteries in your phones and in electric vehicles. You are probably already aware of the long life of these batteries even after they go through so much abuse, especially low charge abuse.

Compare the battery in your phone, to say the battery in a rechargeable light or rechargeable fan. I'm sure you've all experienced the short life of these batteries. You charge and charge that rechargeable light and only get about 5 minutes useable energy from the battery in the form of a dim light after just a few months.

So if you are considering Solar, do strongly consider going lithium as your storage source.

If however, you are constrained by budget and have to get regular lead-acid batteries, especially the ones commonly found in the Nigerian market, then YOU MUST COME TO TERMS WITH THE REALITY OF YOUR PURCHASE. You must know that those batteries won't last that long, unless you absolutely pamper them, which few people would do. You would have to transfer most of your huge loads to the daytime, when there is incoming solar power and load shed while on these type of batteries.

But have you used it before? Do you know that, that panel has an expiry date usually 2-5 years depending on the type of panel you bought. Now this is apart from battery replacement and others. By the time you calculate what you have spent for two or three years and compare it with when you use fuel generator, the difference will be clear

Yeah, I do use solar, and the panels are still going strong, generating power each and every day.

You do have very very valid points though, I must say! The cost of solar "mistakes" by buying substandard products can be quite substantial, especially buying substandard batteries and having to replace them often.

It would cost a lot, not due to the price of the solar panels, but the price of the batteries.

Unless you cut cost by buying so called "SOLAR BATTERIES" from Nigeria, which would probably die in a year.

The cost of running that load while the sun is shining though would not be that much, like from around 8a.m - 5p.m.

God bless you. I have said this severally. Solar is not an option to electricity. It is even cheaper to buy a petrol generator than using solar

Over how many years though? That's the point.

Solar is like paying for 10 years worth of fuel on day one, but that doesn't mean it's more expensive in the long run.

In as much as inflation has hit Nigeria so bad. This is applicable to so many developed countries in the world.

From an economist point of view, how much was the salary then? Maybe N700, how much is salary today?? My point is, salary structure also changed. I mean, no graduate earns N700 as monthly salary today. Same way the price of flight ticket from the U.S back then to Africa used to be $150-$288, today, its around $1,000-1400. Inflation has been hitting the world and not just Nigeria, yes, Nigeria might have it rough than others and might have it better than some other nations.

To effectively calculate it and determine how bad it is, economist will try to convert that money to how much it is worth in todays market. And compare the percentage in inflation. You could rent an apartment for $120 in Newyork in the 60s, $120 wont even pay your agreement fee today in Newyork.

So before you bash Nigeria, know that this is a global phenomenon.

And for the record, N100 was a lot of money back then. That is some families monthly salary back then.

Of course inflation affects every country, but it’s the magnitude of the inflation here that is under contention.

From the outside looking in, I wonder if Nigeria is now viewed as a terrorist country.

If other countries were to enact a visa ban on Nigeria due to “terrorists activity”, would they be justified?

The daily news of mass kidnappings, killings and bombings may have made Nigerians numb, but that doesn’t mean that others are numb too.

Kudos to the LASMA for trying to apprehend one way drivers and other traffic offenders, HOWEVER, their methods are sooo CRUDE!

Why are we still having officers trying to stop vehicles on foot?

LASMA should be able to radio in a police squad car to PULL OVER an erring driver, or LASMA should have a squad car, with police officers and lasma working together to form a squad.

In lagos, I see LASMA just standing at junctions and I wonder...

If they are there JUST TO CONTROL traffic, then fine, but you can't try to apprehend erring drivers on foot, banging on their doors, that is just dangerous. Leadership needs to take all his into consideration.

btw, you have to give little props to AMBODE, cause during his tenure, 112 cars were very active and were PULLING people over frequently. NOW, they just park at junctions and sleep, waiting for the sun to set so they can erect their cash checkpoints.
